September 1957. A new school year begins at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and as far as the students and faculty are concerned, it'll be a fairly uneventful and standard year. As uneventful as the wizarding world can be, anyway - barring the soporific classes of Professor Binns, and the nearly equally as mind-numbing studying sessions set in place for upcoming exams, life at Hogwarts was not known to be dull. Between the wonders of performing magic in various classes; fighting for the Quidditch and House cup; witnessing Professor Kettleburn fight hand-to-claw with an annoyed Griffin for the third time that year, and students attempting to join the exclusive "Slug Club" to rub shoulders with the exquisite and famous... there is plenty of excitement to be found at any time in the ancient school. However, this year in particular brings with it new adventures for the students. Some of it planned, made to teach and fill with wonder. Other parts of it more sinister, and sure to sow seeds of dissent and paranoia amongst the school.
Welcome all, to another year at Hogwarts! Our plot will start off on the Hogwarts Express, approaching the school as a way for everyone to settle into their character's shoes nice and comfortably. I won't give away too much of the overall plot as of yet, as I'd like to keep some surprises. Below you'll find information about the lore, rules for playing, and the character sheet. I hope you all enjoy this roleplay!
Rules! Please read them all before starting your character sheet.
General Rules:
- Standard Forum rules apply.
- What I says goes. If I want you gone, you go. Please do us all a favour and not make a scene when this occurs, otherwise Mods will get involved.
- If you feel you have been treated unfairly by myself, rejected for no good reason, or would like feedback/reasons for anything, please feel free to PM me. No matter what has occurred in the OOC, I will always answer PMs. Unless it's like, a drunken rant or something. In which case, I'll ignore you. XD
- Co-GMs are to be respected! While I have final say, they will be permitted to constructively criticise character sheets, call out bad behaviour, and prod people when they become inactive.
- On that note, respect everyone in the OOC. I don't want bickering clogging up the roleplay. If you have a genuine problem with another roleplayer, please PM all of the GMS and let us sort it.
- This is an apply roleplay! Do not post your finished character sheet in the character tab unless it has been accepted. Finished characters may be submitted in the OOC, or via PM to myself.
Characters & Posting:
- No God Modding. Should go without saying, but you never know.
- No Mary/Gary-Sue characters, self-inserts, or anything along that vein. I want some realistic, balanced and preferably original characters.
- *sigh* I can't believe I'm having to put this as a rule, but no plagiarism. Doing so will result in an automatic rejection, but pleas will be heard via PM. (Not including something along the lines of putting your wand description from Pottermore in your sheet - something like that is fine.)
- More rules in regards to character creation can be found in the character sheet.
- I'll be looking closely at characters related to canon characters. It'll be unavoidable in some cases, considering how much crossover the Pureblood families have. Still, I'll be monitoring them and deciding as they come if I'll allow the relation or not.
- I'm not allowing Half-Breeds at the moment, due to the likelihood it's only done to make a character more "In-Depth" or "Different". I'd prefer people to write their characters without using lycanthropy or distant relation to a gnome as a plot point or way of explaining why said character is so perfect/angsty/a loner/etc. That said, if you have a particularly good idea involving half-breeds, send me a PM about it with your finished CS. I'm not totally unreasonable.
- I expect at least two well-written paragraphs per post. This is a Casual roleplay, so I expect correct English spelling, correct grammar, a use of complex/compound sentence structures and realistic character development. To correctly gauge your writing standard, I'd like a writing sample. The writing prompt and where to put the sample is somewhere in the first OOC page.
- Please read all of the IC posts before you post yourself. You could be missing valid information or interactions with your own character if you skip them.
The Story:
- Romance will be allowed, but no sex scenes please. Dealing with "Won-Won" and "Lav-Lav" in the books was sickening enough without having to deal with teenage sex.
- I don't have any qualms about graphic gore scenes or swearing; what I will not allow are slurs (Other than Mudblood, I guess) or other similar discriminatory language. If I see anything like that, even if it comes from a perhaps racist character, both the character and the writer will be punished.
- This is set in 1957, so for those with Muggle-Born or Half-Blood parentage, don't be mentioning things like iPhones and modern-day pop culture references. If you mention something not invented or created before 1957, you'll be asked to change it. Also, to find out the writing prompt for your sample, view the raw code of this post by clicking "Raw" in the top right corner.
- While I won't be using rolls to determine the outcome of actions in this roleplay, I would still like to see some realism. Magic won't solve absolutely everything, so don't use it as your ex machina. In action scenes, your character won't be able to duel several opponents simultaneously without receiving so much as a scratch. I suppose this ties in with the Mary-Sue rule, but just keep it in mind.
