[OOC] Star Wars: Alt History

We all know the story of "A New Hope", but what if Leia had completed her mission?
Vader doesn't catch up with her until after she's talked to Obi-wan, and they have returned to her ship. Luke never lost his Aunt and Uncle, or met the droids. Han and Chewie were never hired to smuggle people to Alderaan, and Tarkin hasn't yet decided to blow it up, as he has no prisoner he wishes to psychologically torture.

I'd start the RP as the Tantive IV comes out of hyperspace above Tattooine. You can play as OCs or established characters, though from this point forward established characters may change.

Also, Obi-wan is an NPC, though Leia is available.

I'll develop the story as we play, based on the players and the actions they take.

That is quite a lot of people who could teach a Force Sensitive that is Obi or Yoda. Sure in Legends quite a few fell to the Dark Side and some of those joined the Empire, but that doesn't mean they had to in this RP.

I don't know how many Jedi there were before the Jedi Purge and after some undoubtedly died during the Clone Wars but IMO in Legends the Jedi Purge was very unsuccessful.

But none of those were mentioned in the original trilogy, so I don't want to use them unless I have too.
Maybe if you were trained by Vader or Palpatine as an Inquizitor, but even that is kind of pushing it.

You know, you don't have to be trained by anyone character that is canon. Just be force sensitive and find a jedi holochron in one of your travels or a family heirloom that no one has opened in generations or just come across a tribe of force sensitive people in one of your adventures who help you learn the force, or even have a ghost of your ancestors who were jedi centuries ago show themselves before you during the right time and teach you. I mean you have a shit ton of options.

@Shadow DaedalusI like both of the characters, but when you adapt them just remember that I don't want anyone with any actual Force Training, as they would have been hunted down by the Empire and would be in hiding. Also, if there were any that were willing to fight the Empire, I doubt they would be in hiding until now.

I want to keep to the plot of the original as much as possible, so I don't want anyone that couldn't believably be in the original movie in some form.

That said, a Miraluka would be able to see through the Force, so maybe they could be pretending to be human or just only know that one Force trick. Other characters can have minor tricks that Force Sensitives can have, but actual trained powers and lightsaber training doesn't fit with the universe.

There would be Lightsabers on the black market and kept as heirlooms, etc. So if anyone can come up with a good reason for their character to already have one (like how Boba Fett had one), I'll allow it.

Was thinking of a scavenger cyborg engineering technician who came across a hidden underground droid factory that was shut down, the data for it's location lost. Going there he finds all sorts of schematics, research data, droid models that were a work in progress, even General Grievous's own build. Good?

You had some droids who were programmed with light-saber training. I think they were based from the magna guards.

Are light saber production/schematics that rare? I mean they used synthetic crystals to make lightsabers for the light saber wielding droids during the clone wars.

@BishopA cyborg that's mostly robotic is fine.

The thing about lightsabers is that you have to use the Force to create them (at least in Legends), so, while anyone could put the parts together, the efficiency would be too horrible for it to work properly unless you infused it with the Force. This infusion is what tied a Jedi to their Lightsaber, and gets rid of tiny imperfections that kill the efficiency.

In fact, in "I, Jedi" Corran Horn had to meditate on his newly constructed lightsaber for several days to make it work, even though the components were a few hundred credits worth of salvage and a crystal from a jeweled goblet.

Edit: We could say that you have an inferior version of a lightsaber (less damage, low battery life) if you wanted to just say you found the schematics and built one.
If they were easy to make, though, I feel like they would have been more common.

Perhaps getting their own lightsaber could be a character arc for my Jawa. He doesn't want it to fight though, he just likes it because it glows.

@TheUnknowable yeah, ur right. It needs to be imbued with force in order for the crystal to activate. Either way, light-sabers are overrated pfff.

@InkwellYou'd need a good reason to have an archaic one (one that was on par with a lightsaber), but the modern ones seem to just be expensive and fairly rare, but not almost impossible to get.

@BishopThat seems a bit OP for a starting character, but I could let the group go to Malastare to hunt one during the RP.
