Vikings Westward

Adventure, wealth, power, glory… every man yearns for it all. A viking’s life is hard and builds the soul as well as the body. It creates a warrior of the Gods. Those that want the power have to take it by force and violence. Raiding and warring is a way of life for many who do not choose the settled life of a farmer. Those that dare will venture out on ships built for speed and purpose to explore and conquer nearby lands and seize the wealth of others. Love and family are usually found along the way.

The local earl wants to send out a fleet to raid. Are you willing to join his warriors? To eventually conquer England and even further is a goal for only the bravest and the best warriors.

Monsters (as in giant squid or Megalodon), witches and seers will likely be added into the story as well.

Out of curiosity, since you put it under fantasy and historical, how realistic is this aiming to be? Like down to earth, very human, or more mystical fantasy in the vein of a myth?

Exactly what do you mean by this? Vikings believed in witches and seers so if you meant that then yes.

Like something more akin to the myths of Beowulf and what not. Okay, so witches, seers, and all that stuff? Monsters too?

Hmm, interesting, I had not considered monsters but it might make it more interesting. I think I could be okay with monsters too.

Take out the monsters I'm in. I'm up for believing in the pagan ways, I reenact that anyway. Haakon Skalli (Hakkon the bald) will be preparing the Odin's whisper for sea, if the fantasy disappears. But that's up to you.

Yeah, it would be better as a purely historical scenario with some limited 'magical' elements.

They don't have to be real monsters. They can be just people playing tricks. Or you can limit the paranormal to some völva-type characters or mysterious wanderers with low-key prophetic powers.

You know, a Valkyrie can only be an illusion of a dying person or a normal shieldmaiden claiming ancestry from some god or other, it does not have to a literal supernatural entity.

I have decided that it will be historically based as I had planned in the beginning. The monsters will be the giant squid or megalodon the shark. Those are historical enough and based in fact. I mean come on wouldn't you think it was a hell of a monster if tentacles bigger than your boat tried to pull you down?

That sounds good because I planned on making my character a whaler crewman.
