Hi everyone!

So I'm working on an upcoming game with a CoGM of mine and was looking for a way to better help us share and edit ideas together. I am aware that there exists options for collaboration in real time such as Google Docs and others, all great tools. However what I'm looking for needs more... room? than what Google Docs can really provide.

Enter the "Test Forum" which is a nice place to work on posts and upcoming games alike. However I'd like to suggest a few additions:

(Apologies if someone has already suggested these...)
1. Multiple threads like those found in any typical roleplay.
2. CoGM permissions allowing a second or third person to edit posts.

In this way, the multiple threads can be used to consolidate all chatter regarding the project. Edits and additions can be discussed in the OOC while completed work can go into the IC and be further edited by everyone if needed. Character's Tab can be used to store resources. No need to fix bbcode since all work stays on site.

Can't really think of anything else I wanted to add so that's pretty much it. If this is at all possible then great! If not then it's off to Google Docs with me.

Thanks!

I'm quite sure that the test forum doesn't have 0th post. However, in any rp section, co-GM's can edit the so called 0th post. It's a post that has no user that can be edited by 1 head GM and the two coGM's. I'd like to see your suggestion added but since the administrator of the site is AWOL again I don't think this will be picked up.

Your best bet (if you ABSOLUTELY must have 2 people editing the same post) is maybe to make a shared account.

Don't forget to back the work up off site.

Believe all it would take is switching the Test Forum from an OOC sub-forum to a RP sub-forum.

What I don't know is: there a reason we may not want it as a RP sub-forum?

I'll ask about it.

@Odin Didn't really think about making a shared account. That may be a good idea but at least for now I'd like to stay with the one I have.

@Ruby I don't see a reason? But maybe someone else will. The Test Forum right now is just a single tab thread and I imagine adding a couple more could only help.

Also thanks for looking into this!

To be honest I'd probably just go with option c: make an RP thread for it, work on it in the 0th post, and turn it from 'closed' to 'apply' when you're ready.

It's a good idea but at the same time I don't want anyone to see it just yet. I was thinking about that originally though. Using the actual rp subforum to work on the project but I'd only do it if I could make it private until ready.

@Exit then I'm afraid there's no options at the moment.

Ultimately why I'm here. Hopefully this goes through? Eventually?

For now I'm making the best of the Test Forum.

I'd say I hope so but I am also kind of familiar with the RPG development track at this point so if I may offer kind advice - don't hold your breath because you have less oxygen capacity than RPG has development hiatuses.

We personally use google docs for organizing large RPs.

Ignoring the various collab/CS/note-things-down docs, our doc list for just one RP counts 44 docs.
many of those are no longer in active use, but they were relevant for the crafting of the RP.

The important thing to do when you use something like google drive for organizing a massive RP is to have a system in your folder and in naming docs. In our case, we used numbers in front of doc names, plus an archive.

01-19 = various work docs, like RP core plan, interest check a few workbenches and such. This category also holds the doc containing the first/zeroth posts for the RP thread.
20-29 = GM sheets
30-39 = Side stories set outside the RP's main continuity
40-49 = Lore docs

An alternate organization is to use multiple subfolders, but we found that numbers made it easier to find the right doc when we needed it.

This setup was made for an RP with three GMs.

@Ellri Just went through some it. I'm wet somehow.

This just raises more questions like for instance, did the three of you construct that map? What I really need to do is study more advanced roleplays.

But thank you for this. Honestly those docs looked a lot better than I expected and maybe that's just because I have shit organizational skills.

I still want my suggestion to go through but I'm going to take a second and closer look at google docs.

We made the map with texual/verbal input from the other to GMs.

as for the wetness? we keep a few creatures hovering over our docs. they occasionally tend to slobber.

@ExitYou want a World-Building section. I'm currently trying to see if one can be implemented on this site. The discussion can be found here: roleplayerguild.com/topics/169736-wor…
