You just argued that longer = smarter in the paragraph before you said "I'm not arguing longer = smarter."Not true, like at all.e: You said also like 3 or 4 times, that's just lazy writing, at this point it's becoming difficult to read what you write, I understand you feel like putting more down on paper means you're going more in depth on the subject, but there is just no way in hell I'm going to subject myself to that.

As in posting longer doesn't automatically make you smarter. I honestly can't tell if you're either consciously choosing or simply incapable of being able to derive means from one's words and/or follow and understand something that's longer than a couple of sentences.

What does Spam have to do with Fake Geeks?

Basically Turt didn't like how long we made our posts.
So he started trolling/attacking people having long posts claiming it made people less Intelligent and/or was just stupid.
And that turned into a very long derailment that turned into "Spam is smart they keep it short" which is now being debated.

I feel pretty silly for having been stuck on this debate for so long when others knew to leave long ago... -.-
But when someone posts stupid shit I tend to be pretty bad at ignoring it, I get way to compelled to counter the point and prove it wrong rather than it let it die on it's own.
Then again I also have a huge pet peeve of people/communities that get scared/intimidated by thought and Intelligence (like spam), and that pet peeve just get's amplified when they try claiming they're in fact smarter when they've done absolutely nothing on countless occasions to prove it.

I obviously need to go let off stress/steam from this...

Alright... so, will there ever be a time where a girl can play a game, online or not, without other male gamers goes "GASP! You're a girl??!!!" or "What are you doing here? Go back to kitchen and make me a sammich!" or something along that line?

Unless society or those communities regress and stagnate, yeah, eventually. Change tends to happen when the majority's opinion changes or enough people show their disagreement with traditional opinion/sentiment to create a stir and shake assumptions. Often, the people that want progress have to push for it.

It's already improved to some degree. The fact that people are more aware of it is part of that.

Though there's always going to be discrimination against the traditionally powerless and favoritism for the traditionally powerful.

Sad... but I find myself unable to disagree with that statement. Oh well... I guess that just mean I'll have to stick with my strategy before. :p

That gives me hope, no matter how small. And you're right, changes like this is usually slow in progress, but at least there has been some changes as opposed to no change at all, eh? ^^

If you mean general culture society is always making progress, we're showing the clear signs of getting there.
Nothing like that happens over night though, it's going to take a little bit but we'll get there.

That being said though you'll always have the few Individuals always willing to deal the low blow to win an argument, boost their ego etc. May that low blow be race, gender, sexuality etc.

Mate if you cant keep a friendship longer than a week you need to lower your standards a bit, that or move to a new area entirely.

On a different note, Turt, Stop trolling, you got a off-topic exile for it on the old guild, stop making work for Mahz by forcing him to implement it again.

What about people complaining when boys dress up and men cry (interpret that in a sincere tone, not sarcastic)? Again, this isn't only an issue with females (though the initial point of this thread was to discuss the seemingly female-targeted aspect of it); that males do that in the first place has to do with the discrimination regarding them.

I do take note on the whole McDonalds part; that was ridiculous. No work has more value than any other, nor any type of professional any more 'noble' than another. A farmer contributes as much as scientist (vocations that shouldn't exist at all aside). That's the same kind of thinking as sexism, just in terms of jobs instead of gender.

Also-Dark Souls? :D What system are you on?

Some of my favorite Spammers are fairly verbose.
Intelligent conversations happen in Spam all the time.
Spam does have a number of games that call for short posts, so pages and pages of one-liners is not uncommon.
This is a strange thread for this particular debate.

Returning to the gender discussion, I think there are couple of reasons why we see sexism among gamers/geeks/whatever. The men who assumed the only video game I played was the Sims were just idiots, and there is really no excuse for that sort of behavior. But I play a lot of video games, and I've had men react differently when they find out I'm a female. Some refuse to shoot/fight me. Some give me extra ammo/money/items. Some single me out, and spend the entire match trying to kill me. Some do everything that they can to protect me. And other still send me cheesy pickup lines.

So why treat me differently for being a woman? Each reaction could have a different explanation, and these could even differ from person to person. I asked some of the men who gave me things, and they all told me that they worried I would be discriminated against - that the gaming world was tough for girls. The guys who refused to shoot me/insisted on protecting me said the same. One gentleman said his little sister played, and he knew how hard of a time she had. I don't know what to say for the guys who single me out.

A complete removal of sexism will require more than just telling boys to stop being immature. People treat the other sex differently for so many reasons. And men aren't the only ones making this happen. I've played with a lot of women who say things like "don't shoot, I'm a girl," "let me in your guild, I'm a girl," and "please give me ammo, I'm just a helpless girl." It comes from both directions, no doubt.

I don't have a solution. I'm just reflecting.

I pretty much skipped all except page 1 and 6 since I can see it would be a waste of time to do so. I will go straight to the subject at hand.

All here should be aware that I am a 100% man. I also proudly call myself a Geek, Otaku and gamer.

I hate any kind of discrimination - it's bad and can only lead to bad blood. So I hate it and try my best to avoid discriminating anyone.

"Fake Geeks" - hey is there any larger social group which doesn't have people trying to pass as members of such a group?

I have no idea about others but I think of myself as someone who treats people pretty fairly - looking at who people are not what they are. It's the personality and shared interest which matters not gender, nationally and so on...

As for some examples of a fair treatment of females in the Geek, Otaku, gamer communities.l

My mom plays MOHA AA in one clan and she is quite well accepted.
My brother has a female friend which he introduced to Touhou and some other subparts of the Otaku culture -I was more surprised by such a person existing in the same town then by the fact that she is female.
One of the people whose option about RPing I highly value is a girl.
My brother uses a girl as his main recommending center for anime.
I myself prefer using and roleplaying as female characters - can't explain why myself.

I cloud go on and on about this so to cut it short - discrimination is bad as is ignoring it. But humans are imperfect beings so I doubt that we will see the day when discrimination disappears.

People have a terrible tendency of thinking that giving the discriminated against group better treatment will somehow fix the issue.
When in fact it only worsen's it cause you set up the stigma that they're people to be treated special.

Largely like the girls Seravee mentioned who will say stuff like "Let me in the guild, I'm a girl".
If I ever had someone say that I'd probably give them a mini lecture like "So? You were born with a vagina, good for you. I don't care if your female, male, trans, lizard person or the fucking queen of england. You want in the Guild? Show that you'll be a valued and productive member of the community".

Blunt, I know. But I don't much care for people that try to use something as uncontrollable as their sex as a vantage point.

Alright, fine.

This is a really bad thread, and a mod should close it.
