The Roleplay takes place between Jurassic Park and The Lost World Jurassic park sometime between 1995 and 1996. The plot is simple: a small plane is hit by lightning during a storm over the Pacific Ocean, nearly 120 miles from Costa Rica. With very little equipment, lost in an abandoned theme park with dangerous creatures running loose, they must find a way to reach the mainland and escape with their lives or be devoured by creatures 365 million years out of time.
In this thread we find Drew and Inkarnate stumbling through the jungles for the first time in many a moon. I’ll be taking Drew’s lead on this one, but y’know. The ush.
A timeline to refer to any "canon" events in the JP universe. Because for some reason I am insane and wanted to have a working timeline of events.
1981-1982: While running the "Animal Kingdom" safari park with Robert Muldoon, John Hammond begins laying the groundwork for a new theme park; something the world has never seen before.
1982-The island Isla Sorna is leased from the Costa Rican Government to the InGen companies. The lease is for 99 years. Several genetic research facilities are built on this island.
1982-1984: Geneticist Dr. Henry Wu is hired and begins to experiment on filling gaps in genomes with other kinds of DNA, finally finding that certain kind of frogs and other animals work.
1983: Construction of a theme park begins in San Diego.
1985: The San Diego theme park plans are canceled, and InGen leases the island of Isla Sorna from the Costa Rican government. The company begins constructing the theme park on this island.
1986: The first dinosaur is cloned. The species? Velociraptor.
1987: Indigenous peoples on the Isla Nublar island are forcibly deported by InGen personnel.
1993: Construction of the theme park on Isla Nublar is completed. The park is given the name: Jurassic Park. Several staff deaths prompt investors to threaten to pull out of the project, leading to John Hammond to contact several figures as an endorsement team.
Friday, June 11 1993 The endorsement team: Alan Grant, Ellie Sadler and Ian Malcolm (alongside Hammond's grandchildren Tim and Lex Murphy) arrive on Isla Nublar. A large costal storm ends up hitting the island, forcing the evacuation of non-essential personnel. The park's main computer programmer, Dennis Nedry, acts alongside InGen's rival company BioSyn to steal embryos. He takes many park systems offline, but he is killed and the embryos are destroyed before he can meet with his contact. Dinosaurs, including the Tyranasaurous Rex and Velicoraptors, escape during the storm, causing multiple deaths of park staff.
Saturday, June 12, 1993 John Hammond and the endorsement team are evacuated from the island. InGen staff are sent in to evacuate any remaining island staff.
Late 1993-1994: Ian Malcolm violates a non-disclosure agreement with InGen by speaking publically about the tragedy at Isla Nublar. His name is dragged through the mud, and his arguments are discredited.
Hurricane Clarissa strikes Isla Sorna, known by InGen as SiteB, and InGen staff are evacuated after releasing the dinosaurs.
November 1994: Henry Wu returns to Isla Nublar to oversee dinosaur breeding and survival.
1995: Henry Wu writes his book The Next Step: An Evolution of God's Cooncepts, revealing his desire for further genetic modification towards a new species.
December 1996: A British family enjoys a yacht vacation on the coast of Site B. Their daughter is mauled by Compsognathus. This spurs InGen to remove John Hammond as CEO of InGen, and his nephew Peter Ludlow is given the position.
In September 1995, a small business jetplane leaving Lima, Peru goes off course from it's original Costa Rican destination and crashed onto Isla Nublar. Even with their lysine deficiency, the creatures on the island have survived without human intervention.
