Is it bad that I drank over 2 liters of ginger ale in 2 days? I've been drinking it because of the idea that it helps with nausea [I'm pregnant]. Is it just a placebo effect, or does it actually help with nausea? Please help

Even if it IS just placebo, it's still effective for you--so you should just be happy it's working and not question it too much :)

Well, liquids in and of themselves shouldn't be a problem; but I WOULD question whether or not that much Ginger Ale could be good for you. I used to be a nursing student, and I know other liquids like orange juice or other juices would be just fine. The only thing I'd question with Ginger Ale is that it's soda--but the soda thing is rather debateable anyway. I'd say that you're *probably* fine, I don't see why they could say 7-up is fine but not Ginger Ale.

Different things help with different people when it comes to pregnancy and nausea. For me, it was avoiding meat and quitting smoking for the pregnancy. If it helps you, then keep on doing it. If you are worried about what is in the ginger ale, then you can make your own. There are plenty of recipes on the internet on how to make it that way you can control how much ginger, sugars, etc is going into the drink, or you can make yourself some ginger tea with some honey.

Sure, Jack The Stripper. I mean it's probably not the best thing in the world for you, but I really don't think it will hurt you or mini-you xDD

Congrats on the upcoming child, by the way--when are you birthing the lil guy or girl? :)

I don't know. Sadly, I'm not even a month along yet. I can't wait to find out.

It has long been argued that ginger has natural antiemetic properties, but it's never been truly proven. Soda in those quantities isn't great for you (or the fetus) because of all the sugar, but it's better than being continually nauseous. If the nausea continues, I'd go to the doctor and explore other options -- you don't want to keep drinking soda in those amounts. Other natural stomach soothers include peppermint hard candies/gum, various herbal teas, and there are always bland foods like crackers or plain rice which will help settle an upset stomach.

Yeah, sugar in those quantities isn't the best thing for her, Holmes....but it's not like she's gonna kill herself or her child by drinking it either. It's one of those things that aren't exactly healthy, but it's probably not going to cause permanent harm either. Healthy? Probably not. DANGEROUS? Certainly not.

I completely forgot that ginger ale is like.. one of the easiest liquids to make. I think I'll try the tea first just because I'm UK, and tea sounds better. As for quitting smoking - that helped a lot also. I've not tried meat, but it would make sense, because my mum also did that. I'm to carnivore.

I looked at the "Nutrition Facts" and for the total amount of sugars = 192 grams for all 2L. There is 24 for every serving and there are 8 servings in it so.. 24*8 right? That's so much sugar, jeez. I didn't even realize. Yea.. tea please save me.

From what i understand ginger and ginger excract is a common remedy for nausea but is not used in ginger ale any more although something in it has a soothing effect for nausea. Other things such as saltine crackers and sprite or 7-up are also commonly used for nausea.
mind you i am no doctor nor am i female or pregnant

I just didn't eat meat because the thought, smell, and sight made me sick. I couldn't cook one of my favorite meals because the smell of the food made me physically nauseous. It was not necessarily a conscious choice on my behalf, but more a choice that was made to make myself more comfortable. It gets much easier, unless you have 'morning sickness' (it's better to call it pregnancy nausea, imo) through out the entire pregnancy.

I understand. The only thing bothering me more than the nausea is these stupid cramps I've been getting. But, I can deal with those, just not both. Why is this so difficult. Seems like if whoever made us wanted us to reproduce they'd make it a little bit easier. >3>

Exercise some and drink plenty of water. It should help with the cramps department, and don't be like me and eat three packages of ramen in one sitting (Mike had to tell me to stop, or else I would have eaten more).

Since a human is supposed to drink at least 2 liters of liquids every day anyway, I don't see why this is a problem.
