Daniel walked out of his room on The Crescent Queen, It had been his pseudo home for almost a week acting as a place he spent most of his time studying and relaxing, onto the deck, The sun shined brightly with only a couple of light, wispy clouds in the sky. Wingulls flew in the sky, Diving onto the nearby shores of Wanzo. A dolphin splashes away from the shore as Daniel looks over the port side. Daniel Looks back towards the city, People gathered at the docs almost as if they were awaiting the arrival of the new trainers. The ship was bustling now people Rushing to and from their rooms anxious to get off the boat and onto solid land. Many dressed in business suits coming over from nearby areas to pursue new business ventures, The rest were kids, Either visiting or coming over for the same dream Daniel had. To be a trainer.

Daniel Remembered the letter some professor sent him right before he left his home town. Asking him to come by his lab, Something about helping him become an official Trainer. He Jumped, excited for the journey ahead, He felt like a Young kid again. Discovering the world for himself all over again.

"Only five more minuets until we are able to get off this boat. I better Find Indy, I'm sure the professor would like to meet him too." Daniel Whispered to himself.
Daniel dashes off, After a short search he finally finds Indy amongst a crowd of random people watching the ship sail into the port.

"Hey, Indy! Over here! Come on! We got to get ready to meet the professor!" He screams, loudly waving towards Indy.

The sun was shining, the water was blue, there was a playful sea breeze in the air that tousled Indy's hair and ruffled his clothes. He squinted out on the horizon-- ah, there was the boat with Daniel! Despite the anxiety and nervousness Indy felt, his mood lifted slightly when he thought about seeing his old friend. He smiled, remembering the small Caterpie they'd found... Where was it now? Was it a Butterfree, floating in the wind? Collecting pollen and nectar?

Pokemon...

He honestly couldn't say he had the strongest interest in them. Everyone seemed pretty crazy over them but Indy didn't see what the big deal was. Most pokemon trainers couldn't sustain themselves, after all, feeding and taking care of these pocket monsters got expensive. Sure, people who were good enough to battle on the regular typically got sponsored by companies and were able to actually make a living just from showing up to places. Popular coordinators too, since their matches were always televised and there was always some new coordinator making the screen. But for everyone that suceeded, hundreds had to fail. Besides, pokemon had been apart of their world since forever. What was there to get excited about? Not doing well? Getting your hopes and dreams crushed?

But he was here. Biding his time, waiting... Waiting for what, he wasn't sure. An opportunity? Something like that. Something where he got lucky enough that he didn't have to go off to uni and take over the family business. Also to prove to his parents he wasn't complete garbage. So after reconvening with Daniel after his failed attempt to journey on his own, Indy had decided to travel with his friend to another region. He'd been all over Kanto anyways and wanted a fresh new place to check out. He got bored easily.

Daniel didn't know a thing about Indy's previous, ah, hiccup when he got chewed out by his parents for playing hooky. And Indy intended on keeping that to himself. But as Daniel called out to him, Indy went up to throw an arm around his friend and hugged him.

"Dan you're so fired up you look like you're about to explode," Indy joked. He had a wan smile on his face. New professor, new pokemon... Boy he hoped he'd be alright. "Yeah alright, let's get going."

Daniel's Mind raced at a billion miles per hour, what is the professor gonna be like? What Pokémon does he have? How many people work for him? Question that only can be answered by the professor himself. While though he quiets down after noticing people are looking at him weird for yelling his more shy side takes form.

"Uh, Yea let's go people are staring" Daniel says in almost a whisper.

He grabs the Hand of Indy and races away with him pulling him alone like he's some sort of toy. He looked at the beautiful ocean again while getting off the boat. He liked being on the sea but he could never imagine being on these sorts of boats as a job. He turns his head back to the dock, It symbolized a future for him. A start of a new adventure, His own adventure. His first foot hits the boards of the dock, He sucks up every detail, From the shine of the sun off Metal Railings to the Feeling of the wood mixed with sand underneath his feet.

"C'mon Hurry up Indy You are going to slo-"

Daniel trips and hits his knee on the deck, Nearly Taking Indy down with him, But he manages to gain his balance back. He scrambles up-wards, Trying not to show the pain of slamming his knee on his face. He places his hand on the back of his head and scratches, And chuckles, Then Daniel says

"Maybe We should stop running, I'm okay, are you ok? Sorry for dragging you around so quickly. The professors lab is only a short walk from here. Shouldn't take us too long."

He Smiles, And continues walking down the board walk and turns onto a nearby street. Showing the Embarrassment of making another mistake on his face. But still Excited all the same.

Indy didn't bother stifling his laughter at his friend's antics. Sheesh, he was acting like a little kid. All the same, it was amusing. A smidge annoying, but it would have been a lie to say Daniel's enthusiasm had no effect. On the contrary, it was infectious.

"I'm goin' too slow, you're goin' too fast, but s'all good Dan," Indigo replied with a wave and flick of his wrist. Wish I had half the enthusiasm you had... As he and Daniel walked, they caught up some. Indy asked how Dan's family was doing, how the boat ride had been, what pokemon he wanted. The conversation was packed with inside jokes and laughter, just like always.

Per Daniel's words, the lab wasn't far away at all and they arrived in just a few minutes, their feet crunching on the gravel that led up to the front door. Indigo pushed the door open, gesturing for his friend to enter first. "After you, champ in the making," he said dryly. That's what those guys in the pokemon games said, right? Seemed fitting anyway. And after Dan entered, Indy took a moment to compose himself before stepping inside. Man I hope I don't get something lame like a Magnemite...

Daniel chuckled, Amused by his little champ joke, He soon followed Indy's example and composed himself.

"Well, Where is the professor?"

The Floors where slippery, and shiny as if they'd shined but an hour before. Daniel looked down at his reflection on the floor, He doubted himself, Do I really have what it takes? To be a trainer? He always wanted to be a trainer but never stopped to think if he was ever good at it. Concern drew across his face for just a moment, But those concerns didn't last long.

"So, I guess we wait here for the professor...." Daniel said

While they waited Daniel analyzed the whizzing of machines and other appliances used around this office, Amazed at the technology available in these labs. Daniel heard a set of footsteps coming from father into the lab, Unsure of who they belonged to.

"Beats me," Indigo said with a shrug after Daniel's first question. What was his name again? Professor Lookie or something like that? He wasn't sure. If he was being completely honest, he didn't care and was actually relieved to not see the prof. I wonder what pokemon he's got... Indy definitely wanted something cool looking. Nothing lame like a Jigglypuff or Clefairy, definitely not one of those weirdo pokemon like Magnemite or Staryu which didn't have faces.

You should be happy to get any pokemon, a tiny voice piqued up his head. He sighed, looking up at the ceiling. Yeah... But honestly, what was wrong with having preferences? What was wrong with having an opinion? It's not that big a deal if I like some pokemon over others. Pfft. He went over to the bookshelf to see if there was any reading material. Alas, it was chock full of heavy, dry looking, technical texts on physiology, ecology, any and all words that ended with ology basically.

His heart quickened when he heard the footsteps. This was it. Why was he so nervous? He braced himself. Guess we're about to be trainers.

The footsteps were indeed the professor's. He was carrying a medium sized carboard box, and by the look on his face, it's contents must have been heavy.

"Oh, Hello there!" he said as he set the box on a nearby table with a breath of relief. "I heard you two were coming today. Daniel and Indigo, was it? ... Very nice to meet you. I was just fixing my Pokemon diagnostic chamber. A frightened Rhyperior accidentally ran into it; nobody was hurt thankfully ... Anyways, let's get started." (The ellipsis signaled places where your characters might have responded.)

"We'll begin by selecting your starter Pokemon. As you may know, the Septoh region is a large, diverse region. As such, nearly every single known Pokemon can be found here, as well as a few Unown." The professor paused briefly to let his pun settle, then continued "If you'll turn on the computer to your right, you'll find a directory of all available starter Pokemon. While in other regions, you are only given three to choose from, here we have twenty one. In other words, we have every starter Pokemon from every other region. Take your time; read through their Pokedex entries, and let me know when you're ready."

Dan spent what seemed like hours looking at Pokémon studying them seeing which one he could adapt with fastest. Which one he would like the best. He always had a natural pull towards the Grass and insect type Pokémon more than the popular fire types, But a torchic trained well was always unstoppable. He never really had an interest in water type Pokémon. They all seemed too Samey, At the end he turned back towards the Professor, His shoes squeaking on the floor and said quietly and quickly his shyness taking over yet again,

"If you have one, I would like a Turtwig, If you have one still."

Indigo took an equally long time as Dan, overwhelmed by the sheer choice of pokemon they were able to choose from. Some of them were pretty cute, and some of them looked lame, and some of them looked awesome. He deliberated over the choices, trying to figure out which pokemon appealed to him the most aesthetically. Treecko and Snivy were sleek and cool looking, but Torchic, Chikorita, Piplup, and Rowlet were absolutely adorable. As far as type was concerned, Indigo couldn't have said that he cared too much. Truthfully he just wanted an easy pokemon to handle.

Well... So he closed his eyes, waved his finger around, and jabbed at the screen. His index landed on the fluffy, orange and yellow chick looking pokemon. Guess that settles it.

"Hey prof, I'll take Torchic for my starter," Indigo yawned. The cuddly, warm look it had made it look like the easiest, least-threatening pokemon to handle. Even if he didn't want to admit it, he was actually too nervous to take on the cooler, tougher looking starter pokemon like Treecko and Turtwig. He batted the idea that he may have been scared away. It's just that it's a cute pokemon and I feel like getting a cute pokemon. No big. My next pokemon's gonna be totally cool though.

"If you have one, I would like a Turtwig, If you have one still."

"Why of course we still have one young man!" Professor Lukoo beamed. "And a Turtwig is a great choice indeed."

Turning away from Dan, the professor caught sight of Indigo closing his eyes and choosing a Pokemon at random. It puzzled him to see such an indifferent trainer. 'Does he even want to be a Pokemon Trainer?' He wondered to himself.

"Hey prof, I'll take Torchic for my starter," Indigo yawned.

"Ah!" He tried to sound as enthused as he was at Dan's choice. "Torchic is a great Pokemon as well! I'm sure you two will get along great!" This was anything but true. Torchic were known for being a bit of a handful, but maybe that's exactly what this young man needed to get his butt into gear.

"Now watch this." the Professor grinned. He walked over to the computer and long pressed the picture of Turtwig until a prompt popped up on screen, which read, 'Transfer Turtwig to this location?' The professor hit yes and was then prompted for a retina scan and a finger print. After which, the computer came to life, fan motors cooling it down as it worked it's magic. "Right now, a Turtwig is being transferred from my Northern outpost. Turtwig can be found in the wild up there, so it's better to breed them there as well." A soft *ding* signaled the arrival of the Pokemon. The professor reached into a compartment and pulled out a Pokeball.

With his free hand, he repeated the process for Torchic. This time, the machine didn't run for more than a few seconds. "Wild Torchic can actually be found south from here, in West Septoh. So we breed them here in the lab. I just didn't feel like walking to the breeding wing." He chuckled.

The professor then long pressed on both Pokeballs' action buttons. In about thirty seconds, they turned blue. "When the lights turn blue, you will have officially 'released' a Pokemon back into the wild." Then he gave them both a toss. A blue light released the Pokemon onto the lab floor.

Turtwig was shy and ran right to the professor and hid behind his leg. "Don't be shy Turtwig." He then looked to the boys in front of him, particularly Dan. "He's not normally like this."

Torchic, on the other hand, stood her ground. She was more confused than anything else, slowly taking in her surroundings.

The professor then handed both Dan and Indigo their first Pokeball, but when he spoke, he addressed the Pokemon. He made it a point to use simple hand gestures as well. "These are your new trainers. It's been great raising you two, but it's time you saw the world. These young men will take great care of you. I'm sure of it." The then turned his attention back to Dan and Indigo. "Alright you two, say hello to your new Pokemon. When you think they look comfortable, go ahead and try tossing your Pokeball. Technically, they are 'wild' Pokemon right now. So this will technically be your first catch."

Daniel Crouched looking the Turtwig in a curious manner, He always heard of them and seen pictures of them but has never been face to face with one. Still, It looked cute.

"I like him already, He's kinda cute."

… And shy, as he looked softly at this Pokémon he saw an already clear resemblance to himself in the Turtwig's mannerism. He was happy with the choice he's made.

"Hello, Turtwig ... Don't be shy I won't hurt you." He said softly.

He made a point to move slowly as to not scare the already timid creature. He placed the Pokeball on the ground as soon as he was close enough to the Turtwig to catch it. He then softly pressed the button in the middle to catch the Pokémon, It went into the Ball. After it shook a couple of times it was still and made a slight beep, Indicating it had been caught.

"That was..... Easy" Dan said as he stood up, Smiling.

Daniel though to himself, I'll make sure to take good care of you, We'll make a great team. I promise.

As the pokemon came out, Indy felt a surge of anticipation. The technology that was rigged up was pretty amazing, and seeing the pokemon teleport directly to them was incredible, to say the least.

Dan's Turtwig seemed like Dan, which brought a smile to Indigo's face. The hybrid turtle and dinosaur like creature looked intriguing, and Indy could have sworn the fresh aroma of forest and grass wafted by as the Turtwig came closer to the pokeball placed before him. I remember reading that their shells are made of soil from the selection screen I think, and they even get their nutrients through photosyntheis. That's pretty convenient, it can just make its food all by itself. With Dan' soft words and encouraging smile, no wonder the pokemon took to him so quickly. And the way the pokemon just went inside his ball-- it was too easy! Indigo let a self-assured grin spread across his face as he looked at his Torchic. This one didn't seem as shy, although she did look soft, cuddly, and agreeable. This would be a cinch.

Piece of cake.

"Hey there," Indigo said, kneeling. "C'mere, Torchic."

However the Torchic looked at him critically, let out a peep, and went to go explore some other aspect of the lab. She first peered around the professor's feet, pecking at his laces, before running over to the particularly shiny healing machine...

Indy, who hated looking anything but cool and composed, got a flustered expression on his face. This was embarrassing! This was supposed to be easy! He was messing up already? He let out a chuckle. "Ha, give me a sec." He straightened up. "Hey, Torchic, over here, now." Torchic didn't even bother to look at him, examining her reflection in the shiny machine and letting out soft peeps. She certainly wasn't going to go to a trainer whom wasn't going to come to her. And quite frankly, this human looked weak. Not at all what she had been expecting for her first trainer.

Indigo was flustered. Crap! He needed to do something-- she was his responsibility and she was probably going peck up the tech if he wasn't careful! He walked over to her, picking her up. But all the little bird had to do was squawk loudly in protest, kick her legs just a little, and Indigo dropped her, startled. The Torchic was even more unimpressed. Why, this human was an absolute pushover.

Indigo was getting frustrated now."Alright, guys, just give me a second..." He said through gritted teeth. Why... Why wasn't she listening?! He looked like fool right now! "Prof, you said we had to catch 'em, right?" He gripped the pokeball in his hand before throwing it at The Torchic...

She turned around swiftly and kicked it right back! It sailed past Indigo, whose mouth dropped in surprise. What the hell was this?!

"Yo, Prof, what am I supposed to do? This Torchic isn't coming over..." Maybe the professor would catch it for him...

"Yo, Prof, what am I supposed to do? This Torchic isn't coming over..." Maybe the professor would catch it for him...

Professor Lukoo shook off Indigo's informal shortening of his title, chalking it up to 'kids being kids'. With a deep breath, he sighed. "Torchic." Torchic looked over instantly. "This young man came from very far away to meet you. Why are you being so difficult?" Again, he was sure to use special hand signals when speaking.

Torchic chirped a response that only the professor could understand. (I'm going more realistic here, no Pokemon saying their names like in the anime. I'd like Pokemon in this RP to behave more like in the games by making realistic sounds when trying to communicate.)

The Professor then turned toward Indigo. "Torchic is bored. When she gets like this, the only thing that will satisfy her is a good battle. Maybe Danieal would let you use his Turtwig. If not, I can let you use one of my personal Pokemon."

Battle? Seriously? "You want a battle?" At Indigo uttering the word 'battle,' Torchic's soft and downy features turned postively hawk-like. With a war-like shriek, she landed a few feet in front of Indigo, her fiery feathers fanned out, her crest standing high on edge, and her feet splayed. It seemed as if she were saying, 'yes, I challenge you!'

He had once heard somewhere, maybe in a movie or something, that trainers were tested by their pokemon. Sometimes pokemon wanted a good challenge, and they gauged trainer competency that way. To get Torchic to respect him at all, he would have to battle her. He wasn't ready to battle yet though! But as he looked around, he realized he had no choice. It didn't matter whether he used Turtwig or another pokemon, he was cornered and he was going to have to do this.

"You just can't make things easy, can you," Indigo muttered, eliciting another scowl from the Torchic. "Fine, lend me a pokemon please, Prof." Indigo placed a hand on his hip. "You're going down, bird."

"You just can't make things easy, can you," Indigo muttered, eliciting another scowl from the Torchic. "Fine, lend me a pokemon please." Indigo placed a hand on his hip. "You're going down, bird."

The Professor nodded his understanding. "Okay, but I'll need to revisit the computer. I can't give you one of my main Pokemon. You should use another starter Pokemon." After an awkward moment of silence, he pushed a button, his back hiding his selection.

"Here we go." He said as he tossed the Pokeball. In a flash of red light, a small Tepig appeared. "This little guy likes to battle too. Plus, it would be good experience for you to battle with another fire-type." He said to Indigo. He then turned his attention to the Tepig. "Hey little man. I need your help. Torchic here was selected by this young trainer, but she won't accept him without a battle first. You mind battling with him as your trainer for a moment?"

Tepig looked from the Professor to Indigo to Torchic for a good thirty seconds. Then, with an almost indifferent oink of approval, he walked over to Indigo's side. He didn't like the idea of taking orders from a newbie, but he couldn't miss the chance to battle.

Had Indigo not cared about mussing up his hair, he would have worn hats, and if he had worn a hat, he would have turned it backwards dramatically. Well-- it looked cool in his head at least. After heading outside to conduct the battle, and hearing Tepig's current moves from the professor, he knew he couldn't hesitate any longer.

As it was, Indigo was feeling pretty nervous even though his expression seemed composed, if a little irritated. "Tepig, right? Cool." He jabbed a finger towards Torchic. "Let's jump into it, then. Tackle!" The grunting pig charged with ferocity, but he seemed slower than Torchic, who sidestepped him with an arrogant little puff.

"Round back! Torchic's not gonna expect you to keep your momentum!" Indigo commanded, hoping that his plan would work. Indeed it did. The Tepig made a sharp turn, building up some speed and barreled into the Torchic. He oinked in triumph while Torchic skidded back on the ground, her talons leaving visible grooves in the soil. Oof, and I thought this pokemon was harmless. Man this Torchic's more trouble than I thought! Torchic ran towards Tepig with a Scratch, which connected and sent Tepig shying back.

"Alright uhh..." Indigo mumbled, trying to compose himself and think of whether to use Tail Whip or not.

But Torchic didn't hesitate; and to Indy's surprise, she puffed up and let out a flurry of brilliantly blazing, hot fire balls from her beak. The move was Ember, though Indy certainly didn't know it. All he knew was this this little chick could already breathe fire. The Tepig seemed surpised too and was hit with the flames. Indy gawked. Even if he won this battle, this Torchic knew a fire move already? This pokemon was going to be tough to handle. Why, why, why hadn't he gone with a grass or water type?

The hearty Tepig let out a snort and grunt, digging and scraping the ground with his black hooves. The move had caught him by surprise but he wasn't going down. Indigo snapped back in concentration. He had to catch this Torchic!

"Tail Whip," he called out. Tepig's tail seemed to let off a trail of sparkles as he wagged it. Huh, interesting... Torchic seemed taken aback, but then she charged forwards with her beak glowing. It was going to be Peck again. She grabbed Tepig's tail with her beak, but Indigo suddenly had an idea.

"Swing her around!" He said quickly, and Tepig did just that, gritting and bearing the pain while moving his tail and throwing her. Torchic didn't expect it at all and went flying. "Tackle her while she's clueless!" Tepig didn't need to be told twice, and shoved into Torchic with an aerial Tackle. She let out a shriek and Indigo took the opportunity to toss the ball. Torchic's expression was shocked before she vanished in a flash of jagged red light.

Indigo's heart was beating with anticipation. Had it worked? The ball shook.

Come on...

It shook once more.

Please... Just...

Once more.

Get inside your ball!

There was a ping of confirmation. The Tepig crowed in delight immediately but it took Indigo a minute to register what had happened. I... I got her? He stood up, half expecting the ball to burst open but it remained motionless. He let out an exhausted sigh, a triumphant smile on his face anyway though. "Finally. Sheesh." He wanted to jump with joy but he felt like that would have been uncool. So instead he picked up the ball and high-fived Dan with a grin before turning to the professor. "Thanks for the loaner pokemon. That was intense... Think we can heal this girl up?"

Daniel watched the battle from start to finish, amazed by each move made by both sides. Every once in a while, he'd make a comment about how cool it was. As soon as Torchic was caught, Dan ran up to Indy.

"Whoah! That was awesome! It was all like whoosh and Bam!"
He tried acting out the basic moves performed during the fight, making hand gestures and making noises as best as he could imitate. He thought if Indy tried he, certainly could have what it takes to be a legendary trainer.

It took him a second to calm down from the excitement of the fight. When he did, he looked at his own Pokeball absolutely itching to have a battle of his own. Daniel didn't even notice his friend ask the professor about healing the pokemon Because as soon as Indy asked that question he released his Turtwig from its ball. He picked it up gently and held the turtwig up into the sky and said to Him

" Hey Twiggy, I don't think I wanna keep you in that Pokeball, I want you to discover this world with me and Indy."

He hoped it understood what he said. He knew Twiggy was shy but maybe if they traveled together actively they'd both become less shy with time.

Although apprehensive and wanting to hid in the Pokeball Twiggy was glad to be out of it at the end of the day. Also though he barely understood what his trainer said, Twiggy was thinking the same sort of thing.

"Absolutely." Professor Lukoo nodded. With one hand, he grabbed Torchic's Pokeball from Indigo's outstretched palm. With his other, he recalled Tepig into his Pokeball. "It'll only take a minute."

The professor then walked over to healing machine and placed both Pokeballs into two of its six empty slots. Then, with the press of a button, the machine came to life, much like the Pokemon PC from earlier. While they waited for the machine to work its magic, he made idle conversation. "That was a nice battle young man. I particularly like how you used that Tail Whip. You showed some real creativity."

@TheForgottenArc
During this time, Daniel had been having a conversation with his Turtwig. Apparently, he intended to care for it outside of its Pokeball, as some trainers occasionally do with their starter or favorite Pokemon. The professor smiled at the sight.

When the healing machine was finished, he handed the Pokeball back to Indigo. "Alright, gentlemen." He said with a practiced tone that only comes from years of experience starting trainers on their journey. "I have a few more things to give you." He walked over to his desk where two backpacks had been sitting this whole time.

With a great deal of effort he dragged them off the desk by the handles at their top. He then dragged them across the lab, making a big show of his effort. Surely these boys wouldn't be expected to carry around such heavy equipment!

When he finally got back to where he originally stood, he let out a deep exhale. A cheeky smile then covered his face. "Just kidding!" He said as he lifted both backpacks with ease. "That's just my little joke. You'll be happy to know that these bags should never get that heavy. We use shrinking technology, similar to that of Pokeballs, to make sure items don't weigh you down. All you need to do is place an item inside one of the provided clear bags; then place the bag inside the backpack. When you zip it up, the backpack will shrink the item ten times or until it is only as big as a golf ball, whichever comes first. You will be unable to pull shrunk items out of the backpack manually. To get an item out, you will use this screen on the front of the bag to select the item. The bag will then return the item to full size, so that you can open it and pull it out."

"And then there is this little guy." Undoing two latches, the professor pulled out a little black device with a large screen, the same screen that he was referring to when explaining how to withdraw items from the bag. "This is your Pokedex. It has to be inside of its bag slot in order to pull items, but outside the bag , it has even more uses. It is a cell phone, a Pokemon scanner, a GPS, and, in general, a well of knowledge. You can ask it anything and it will usually have an answer. If the Pokedex is outside the bag for longer than fifteen minutes, the display will shut down and it will send a signal to my lab with its location, an anti theft protocol. If someone were to take your entire bag, you can always call my office so I can retrieve its location."

He then handed Dan and Indigo each their bag and Pokedex, with the Pokedex still outside of its pocket. "Now, turn on your Pokedexes and set up their additional security features: retina scan, thumb print, passcodes, and well, you get the point."

Indigo sheepishly smiled at the Professor’s comments after heading back inside. It had been some serendipity, nothing more, he was sure. Still, he appreciated both Dan and Lukoo’s comments and encouragement.

As the professor first introduced the technology, Indigo had been about to walk out the doors without receiving anything. Stuff that heavy? No thanks! It all cleared up however when the professor revealed his joke. Indigo was disappointed in himself; I actually believed that? Come on…

The tech was pretty incredible, and as a teenager, Indigo was of course drawn to the sleek, functional looking backpack and pokedex. It acted like a phone too? He wondered if he could put games on it… As he thanked Lukoo, a nagging question gnawed at his mind. How could labs just give this stuff out for free? He’d seen the models for the pokedexes and packs— they were expensive, even the ones on the cheaper end of the spectrum. He knew this because when he’d started his journey, he’d looked for the models he had wanted… So who paid for this? He instantly realized it as he asked himself his question.

Ma and Dad, he recognized, feeling a fresh surge of guilt. Of course— parents helped pave the way for many of their children's journeys. He was lucky, and he had nearly squandered it. He swallowed. Suppose this stuff broke? Especially with a rambunctious Torchic like his. He was supposed to be funding himself for most of his journey, at least until he somehow convinced his mother and father he wasn't a slacker. Money... He needed money. So after setting up his pokedex, he took a deep breath and faced Lukoo.

"Hey Prof..." Indigo said slowly. "Do you uh, well, need any help remotely or something? I mean, what I'm trying to say is-" he swallowed. "Do you have any jobs for newbie trainers like me available?"
