It all started with the lights that came down crashing from the sky on that fateful morning just hours before we all were going to head down to the lake for our daily swim. All of us wanted to take advantage of the camp counselors being asleep. It was harmless and wasn't going to be a big deal, but before any of us knew what was happening, in the palms of our hands, a singular light slowly descended from the green sky.

Maybe that should've been our first clue that something wasn't right, but we're kids. How else were we supposed to know what was about to happen? No. None of us expected any of it to happen. It was not only something none of us eight were prepared for but it was too late before we could do something -anything - about it.

This was the day we found out what it really was like to be fish out of the water. This was the start of our journey. This was how we became The Digidestined.

Conrad Franklin was finding the breeze on a day that typically was known for being hot with record-high temperatures a welcomed change. Having grown up not far from Camp Red Rock, he was familiar with the weather patterns in this part of North Dakota - not that he has ever liked paying attention, but given the way his parents have raised him thus far, he had to be well-informed about a lot of things. It’s fairly obvious to anyone who gets to know him that Conrad hasn’t had a normal childhood. His parents haven’t raised him as such.

And that was the reason why Conrad started to question why his parents sent him here. In the two weeks he, along with seven others have been at this camp - at least the cabin that he shares with seven other kids of his age group of eleven to thirteen - have been at Camp Red Rock, he wondered why he was here. A lot of thoughts came to mind and he wanted to ask them, but something about the circumstances and how he often found himself being, he could never actually do it. He lacked a certain confidence to ask them without worry. As a result, much like with a lot of things in his life, Conrad chose the cowards way.

But it’s been like that his entire life (or at least for as long as he could remember). It didn’t matter if it was with his parents or those that he has tried to avoid at all costs (unsuccessfully one might say). It’s true, Conrad, who has been dubbed as Cowardly Conrad, no doubt a joke rather than a name given to him with the intention to insult or offend, has rung true with the boy with brown hair. Nothing about him was courageous. He lacked the confidence to do a lot of things that others could.

So as Conrad sat by the lake, the rest of the kids were enjoying themselves in the water, which was fine by him. He honestly didn’t feel like getting wet at this time and there was no way he’d let them catch them without his shirt on.

So, what did Conrad do if he wasn’t with the others taking advantage of the cool breeze and the shining sun? Well, for one, Conrad had always enjoyed writing down his thoughts into a journal that he was given to his more understanding grandparents, specifically his grandfather. Bless that man because, without him, the boy would feel completely isolated from the rest of his family. He’s the only one that made Conrad feel at least somewhat included and he loved him because of that.

It’s a little windy today, but I guess that’s okay. It doesn’t seem like it’s really keeping the others from enjoying the sunshine. Speaking of, it’s awfully bright today.

Conrad looked up at the sky for a brief moment. It was awfully bright. The wind wasn’t so bad though. It was the sort of brisk wind that was common for this state. One thing the brown-haired boy couldn’t figure out was why it was this windy in the summer season. It was a little strange if he was being honest with himself, but the thought soon became clouded by another as the blue sky above started to become hazy light disappearing. Though it wasn’t necessarily a complete darkness, the sudden loss of complete visibility was enough to make Conrad (and no doubt the others) look up.

And as the sky became a muddled gray color, what was first assumed to be lightning, Conrad saw some flashes of light from within the dark gray clouds. Conrad had then made the conscious decision to pack up his journal into his shoulder bag and he would whistle to the others to follow. Whatever was happening, he didn’t want them to catch colds, though that was more likely than not.

Walking back to the camp, it wasn’t even a full minute that something strange was happening. Conrad looked up and saw the same light come from above him. He went to his default setting of hiding. He took a direct right turn to the nearest patch of trees, but as he did, the light still slowly descended and it had made its way into his open right palm. It was odd, but the light felt warm, almost as though it seemed familiar.

When the light faded, a strange mechanical device in his hand. It had a weird shape, but Conrad saw it was similar to the pagers that seem to be popular among the older kids at his school. The few things that Conrad happened to notice that wasn’t like those pagers/beepers was the strange symbols along the device and the way it was shapen was also strange to Conrad.

Right when he was about to check it out, the device itself started to glow. Before he or the other seven children who were making their way over to where Conrad was (or somewhat in his line of sight), lights of various colors: orange, yellow, gold, blue, red, green, pink, and purple started to shine among the eight. These lights felt warm. Conrad felt like he was being hugged by someone who wouldn’t ever let him down and would always protect him. At that same moment, there came something totally unexpected.

“Wait what’s happening?”

Conrad couldn’t control his body as it started to float up into the air, the sight of a now multi-colored sky opened up. Along with him, the other seven were being tossed into that bright light. When the final child passed through it, everything else went blank. The only thing that came after it was the sudden change of scenery. They were in a forest, spread out amongst themselves.

And as Conrad adjusted to everything, only one thought crossed his mind.

“Where am I?”

Somewhere in the Digital World

The darkness had always loomed in the digital world. Whether it was hidden or out in plain sight, it always existed and it was never as true as it was right now. The island that which houses several terrains and wildlife was about to get that rude awakening that its many inhabitants - both of light and darkness - probably hadn’t prepared themselves for. When The Chosen Children had finally arrived like the prophecy stated they would, at the same time, it said that their presence would awaken a beast that was long since to be imprisoned. Its power terrifying and threatened to destroy the island of File, but now that the barrier between Human and DIgital worlds has been crossed, it was the perfect time its followers who are known wide and far as The Blood Order awaken their master.

“They have finally come. Bring them to me. Bring The Digidestined to me at once,” A voice so deranged and so vile said. The form of a four-legged beast walked within the shadows of the various Digimon who, in their own ways, bowed to their master. “I, Sangloupmon, the leader of The Blood Order and rightful ruler of File Island, will do what I could not the last time The First Ones sealed me up. I will make sure they will not repeat history!”

Ishaq

Ishaq stood on the water's edge watching the other kids play in the water. He sighed. As one of the older kids, Ishaq 'felt responsible' for making sure everyone stayed safe. He had told the camp chaperones as much. He stood there in his swim trunks, his shirt removed so he wouldn't need to take anything off in case he needed to jump in and save someone. By God, he hated standing there without a shirt. He hated the fact that he was a little pudgy, he hated the feeling of being...exposed. He hated this camp. It was hard enough keeping up appearances for people he had to deal with on a regular basis, but now he was keeping up appearances for total strangers, people he would never see again once this camp was over.

He didn't hate the other kids, per se, and if anything, many of them probably liked him for the helpfulness and reliability he exuded. He looked over to Conrad, sitting by himself on dry land. This behavior irked Ishaq. As the responsible 'older child', Ishaq was expected to approach Conrad, ask him what was wrong and why he wasn't playing with the others. Was Conrad being bullied? Just having a bad day? Sick? "God I hate kids. What a pain," Ishaq thought to himself. Honestly, Ishaq just wanted to give the mopey kid some space, and was having a conundrum trying to figure out was was 'expected of him'. Fortunately, he was pulled out of his annoyed introspection by...bad weather? "Alright everyone!" Ishaq called out, parroting the adults, "Weather's looking a little strange. We should dry off and head back to the cabins."

Yet as they headed back, it became apparent that this was no storm. Ishaq had lagged behind to 'make sure everyone was accounted for', so he saw the light come down from the sky towards each of the kids, including himself. He wondered for a moment if they were being struck by meteors. Then he realized for a sickening moment that he didn't care for the safety of the others, and that he should. yet he didn't have to think about it, since it seems the streaks of light were harmless, instead depositing a device into his palm. he inspected it cynically, wondering if this was some sick prank from the camp leaders, but as he looked at the device, he felt...naked and raw. Then he felt the weightlessness as he was pulled upwards. Before the panic had fully set in, a disorienting light engulfed him.

Ishaq lay there in an unfamiliar space. For a fleeting moment, he wondered if he was alone; a liberating thought. But then he heard Conrad's scared question. Ishaq groaned and stood up, patting himself off, and 'remained calm'.

Current Status: Relaxed

The burning star’s golden shine bathed the lucid lake in radiance, sharing its splendor with all that frolic happily underneath its reach. Peaceful summer mating melodies chirped by sparrows atop the American elm where Izzy Ivanowski shaded, combined with a dark hat that gave her cat ears and goggles that made her an exception to the rule. Unlike the birds seeking a profound partnership, she was undergoing an analysis under careful consideration. A mere split-second decision could drastically alter her reality and those that surrounded her. She leaned in while staring intensely at the rippling water as she sat like a pretzel with the tenting fingers tapping...nah, drowning around the other kids wouldn’t prove to be a valuable use of her time. Immediately hopping up and crouched like a frog, then leaping forward with her elbows and knees sticking the landing as she lied on her stomach. Her feet swaying through the air gently as the breeze hitting the branches. Nature for her was an inquisitive focus on a pitch-black screen, a meaningless empty void until controlled by its user by pushing the power button. Izzy's eyes lit up like the laptop, soon reflecting on her reflected image viewing her long-messy hair as she casually brushed it back. Double clicking on her “Projects” folder in the top-right corner and opening the only file inside it, the program showered with binary in yellow text despite the lack of clouds on the horizon. Her fingers danced upon the keyboard, rocking her head to the satisfying rhythm of clicks. She considered it like a pianist playing in a concerto, treating every line of code like an array of notes needed to be perfected. Perhaps, unbeknownst to an outsider’s likely perspective of spotting a hyperactive oddball whose self-isolated herself from socializing and instead choose to fiddle with technology, they’d never imagine this was her state of euphoria, probably because of her emotionless expression.

It was still unclear whether this an opportunity for adventure, or just a punishment for her purposely sporadic misbehavior. But her adoptive parents determined that since her younger sibling would be going camp, the sole soul she regularly conversed with, she too could use a little freedom and more importantly some similarly aged company. Persuaded by a soft tone compromise allowing her to bring the laptop her father bought her, a sticker pasted on the front cover displaying her full name, plus a few books from the mother’s library that were quite advanced for her age. Though even with those commodities, her uncertainty lead to inner-anxiety being suddenly cast out like a fishing lure ready to attract piranhas to devour her whole. Learning to let herself relax within a week and be content for the remaining weeks she had left, trying not to think about missing her brother too much...

Izzy concentrated on the progress bar slowly inching closer to completion, noticing another boy’s whistling and heading back to their cabins before looking up at the darkness looming over her. The calm before the storm caused her to sit up straight with legs slightly spread out, waiting — just — long — enough... Standing up to close and pack her laptop in her backpack resting by the tree. Hearing the others calling out, she rushed to catch up with the rest of them. Discovering today was no ordinary day as a blinding beam streaked across the sky and a strange device materialized in matter of moments in-between her cupped palms. She gawked at the gadget and blinked in thought.

“What’s this? Some type of miniature remote digital apparatus?” Taking notice of the peculiar symbols that she stroked with her thumbs. “This doesn’t appear to resemble any computer code that I’ve ever seen...” Her ears struck with the discordant screech of static coming from the laptop, she quickly pulled it out and opened it up seeing the screen began to warp. “Huh? A virus?” She held down the power and tried forcing a shutdown, but realized she was being encompassed in a golden glow. The ethereal caressing of her senses matched the heavenly aesthetic, including her ascension that felt like it was guiding her toward the vast colored spectrum above with the rest of the group. She held on tightly to that laptop as everything disappeared in a flash, followed by an abrupt transition that altered the entire landscape. A bewildering mystery that created clarity about one thing; this was definitely an adventure. Wondering if she was simply dreaming as every tenuous grasp at a rational explanation failed her mind. Her first thought softly escaping her lips...

For some reason, Diego was awake earlier than usual that day. Maybe it had been the heat. Maybe it was the sound of the intermittent breeze. Whatever the reason, he dressed in his bunk, then sprang to his feet. The boy had an idea, and his amber eyes sparkled. He had a great idea.
"Rise and shine boys and girls!" he called out with a lilt in his voice, just loud enough to wake everyone up, but not enough to escape the cabin, "I've got a great idea-"
And with that, he somehow convinced everyone in his cabin to sneak out to the lake. Honestly, it was more than he had expected. Though, as they proceeded to sneak through the campground, Diego kept a silent head count. Mostly, this was to make sure no one was about to go turncoat on them, but a part of him wanted to make sure that everyone made it there in one piece. Boy, wouldn't that just ruin the morning if someone got hurt or anything.

Diego was floating on his back, eyes squinted to shield against the summer sun. Seeing the silhouettes of no less than three of his bunkmates on shore through the shadows of his eyelashes was a bit disappointing. Letting out a soft sigh, he turned to a more vertical position, treading water slightly as he reached up and waved.
"Hey, Conrad!" he called out, "C'mon! What's the point of sneaking out to the lake if you don't, ya' know, use the lake?"
There was, however, no time for a reply. It seemed the young boy was on a totally different track as he let out a loud whistle. Diego begrudgingly swam to shore, before drying himself off and getting re-dressed. He had been about to ask Conrad what was up, when he noticed that it almost looked like it was going to rain, but not quite. It didn't smell like it was going to rain, at least. Still, something weird was going on. That much was obvious. So maybe going back to the cabin wasn't such a bad idea? Especially if the camp counselors were coming to check on them.
As the group crested a slight hill which looked over the campground, Diego caught something strange out of the corner of his eye. A cursory glance yielded a strange result. Snow? That was impossible. And yet- And yet a cluster of bright white flakes seemed to be drifting down above them. As they neared, however, they were obviously more bright, and larger than they had initially appeared. One such object seemed to flutter before Diego. Without a second thought, he reached up, snatching the light out of the air in a single hand.

The days at camp felt too quick for Link, who was actually having fun for the first time in a long time. His experience at summer camps were running drills, suicides, and kicking soccer balls day in and day out, so actually having time to run and mess around with other kids who he didn't know was a new paradise that he didn't want to end. The young pre-teen was ecstatic that his mom was able to convince, or rather force, his dad to let him come to Camp Red Rock. Some of the other kids looked dreadful, but Link was soaking it up as much as possible.

The group he had been glued to all summer had come to a consensus that they would sneak down to the lake for a bright and early morning swim. Which was something Link figured would help him bond with the others more, but knew that he would have never made that decision on his own. Link followed the rules, he did what he was told and didn't ever really think about doing what he was told not to. It wasn't until camp that he was able to freely do things that he never would have expected or thought. It helped that his dad wasn't around to hover over him and made sure he stayed in line.

At the beach, the athlete kicked around a beach ball as others swam, juggling alone as he chuckled at his own skill cockily. "Twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three..." Link counted, concentrated and focused at the light, colorful ball hitting his feet. His laser focus was broken as a whistle rang through the air, signalling them to head back.

Following the lead of the others, Link kicked the ball along the trail, but was stopped yet again. This time, it was from a beam of light that broke his focus as he kicked the ball up into the air, attempting to catch it, but was instead graced with a small mechanical device as the ball bounced and rolled away.

"What the heck?" Link's blue-green eyes scanned the others as he noticed they all held up similar devices, but with different and unique colors. "What's going on?" But before he could get an answer, one that he figured no one could actually respond to, he watched as Conrad, one of the quieter kids began floating into the air. Link's eyes widened as he watched Conrad's panic. As he was attempting to reach out his hand to the shy kid, Link found himself doing the same, floating into the air after him.

"No, no, no, no!" The raven haired preteen panicked. Again he followed the others, but this time Link was following them into a multi-colored sky that he did not want any part of.

The two weeks at Camp Red Rock had been surprisingly enjoyable. Granted, she wasn’t exactly used to spending time in the “great outdoors” but it was nice to spend time with other kids her own age. Camp was a nice distraction from the passing of her brother, and how much she missed him.

Now, Bianca and the rest of her cabin had decided to spend the afternoon by lake. Bianca, currently dressed in a purple swimsuit, took the time to splash around in the water with several of the other kids. One of the nice things about this camp was that there were several cute boys at this camp. There was that Conrad boy who sat by the lake by himself, away from others. Bianca couldn’t help but feel bad for the boy. He seemed shy. He looked like he could use someone to talk to. Bianca had to admit, he was adorable, and the shyness added to it. That Link boy was also rather handsome. Even if he did seem laser focused on sports from what she had seen. Still, she had spent quite a bit of time ogling Link as he kicked that ball up and down.

At some point, she noticed everyone getting out of the water. The weather was starting to get less pleasant, so Bianca followed suit, and dried off and got dressed. On her way back to the camp, Bianca felt something magically materialize in her hand. She looked to see that it was an unfamiliar mechanical device. Bianca wondered how it got into her hand in the first place. She did notice that others had a similar device in their hands.

Before Bianca could question what these strange devices were, they started to glow. Then she along with the other kids started to float up in the air, and the sky was rainbow colored all of a sudden. ”What?! What’s happening?!” Bianca panicked. She flailed around wildly trying to get back on the ground, but to no avail.

Once they had gotten high enough, everyone was tossed into a bright light. Then, everything went blank for a moment before the scenery suddenly changed. Now, they were in some sort of forest. Bianca sat up, and looked around. Trying to get adjusted to her surroundings. All sorts of emotions were going through Bianca's head; Confusion, nervousness, and quite honestly even a tinge of excitement. Potentially, something magical was happening here, and that made this situation slightly less scary. But only slightly. "Oh my goodness! Have we just been abducted? What on earth is going on?" She asked to no one in particular.
