Background: Professer Fern was a normal young man that, like many others had a love of pokemon. At a young age he went through school to become a pokemon Professer, but that was not meant to be. Drafted into the Pokemon War with his HootHoot, he and his beloved freind fought for years alongside one another until the war ended. He finished his schooling after travelling the world, but once again just before he could call himself a pokemon professer war was standing at his doorstep. Instead of being drafted, Fern and his HootHoot volunteered, becoming an invaluable combat medic and scouting pokemon duo. After a battle that left Fern with a permenant limp in his right leg and took away HootHoot's left eye, but caused it's evolution into Noctowl, the pair decided it was high time they get back to the quieter lifestyle of a professer, or so they thought.

Where everyone else had been using children or mass amounts of techology to study pokemon so that they may stay hidden safe in their labs, Fern opted for a more hands on approach that meant he never had time enough to set up proper roots in any region, let alone get his own deticated labratory. He was more like a trainer in those days, exploring and capturing pokemon that caught his eye, as well as simply studying those he found.

Now, after years of his life spent on study and war, Fern has spent a large amount of his funding and own money on the cruise for young trainers that is now beginning in Slateport City, in the Hoenn region. Though he is a bit rough around the edges and difficult to get along with, he really does care for the young just as much as any of the other professors. Any young or new trainers who find themselves aboard the ship all have a chance to get their hands on a pokemon caught by Professor Fern, because in his opinion, life without a Pokemon, a Freind, is no life at all.

Backstory: Ramona is a very determined and driven individual, if not a little ditzy in her endeavors. When she was eleven she obtained her first Pokemon from Desmond's father: A Wooper. Using this armless little derp, Ramona traveled all around Orre, collecting data on Pokemon for the Professor since his son was such a shut-in. She met him once, but that was it. Maybe she caught occasional glances of him when she was at the lab? Even her memory wasn't that great.

Her travels across Orre gathered plenty of data on the region for the Professor, so by the time Desmond decided to leave, Ramona had already been a trainer for almost 5 years. Now that the Professor was satisfied with Orre, it was time for her to pursue a new region and perform new research: She's boarding a ship to head out to sea, to wherever adventure the waves intend on taking her to. To her surprise, apparently the Professor's son was actually coming along: A complete rookie!

She felt a bit competitive. Sure, he was a newbie... But she didn't want to lose out to him in what she considered the research race! He might not have known it, but he already had 2 powerful rivals from the beginning...

Much like Yui Richard was born in Sootopolis City, in the Hoenn region. Though unlike Yui, he kept both parents while growing up and was able to begin his adventure at age 11 when his mother gifted him a pokemon gained from another region from one of her trips. This, coupled with his close living to Yui, made them close rivals. He knew very well that Yui was unable to start her pokemon adventure and went out of his way to sent her and her father updates on his adventures, further angering Yui and cementing his place solidly as her rival.

Like his parents, he traveled the regions, though not before traveling through Hoenn. Currently he resides in Castelia City in the Unova Region, mostly due to the fact he gained word from his father about a cruise for young Pokemon Trainers, and that Yui would soon be there. He had originally missed the boat's first landing, but was ready and waiting for it's second, wondering if he would be able to catch a glimpse of his rival on the boat if she did not disembark.

PERSONALITY
Desmond is a book-smart young man that is also a terrible conversationalist; Having spent most of his childhood studying and assisting his father rather than making friends. He shows kindness and a polite if not somewhat nervous tone when encountering others, occasionally stuttering through his words, and not being able to do a whole lot about it despite how much it irks him.

He finds interacting with people his own age the most awkward, more used to communicating with adults; More active and energetic people clash with his quiet side, and they can usually get the upper hand in conversation over him; Dragging him off or talking him into things he might've been too uncomfortable to disagree with at the moment; Placing him in awkward situations he truly wanted no part in.

While Desmond's human-to-human communication is sub-par, he's surprisingly good with Pokemon: He's knowledgeable and shows a lot of care towards even wild Pokemon, often befriending even more threatening species much to the surprise of others. Though that doesn't stop the occasional aggressive Pokemon from scaring him up a tree or into a river much to his dismay.

Despite his quiet exterior, Desmond can become quite chatty when conversing about his passions; He can ramble about Pokemon and Orre's history, and the observations he makes of the world as he travels. But once he realizes he is doing so he locks up and gets a tad embarrassed.

Farther out of his shell, Desmond becomes quite defensive of Pokemon and people who are in trouble. Depending on the severity of the situation he gauges between emotions throwing him into the middle of what's happening, or him sitting back and formulating a plan.

But his combat ability is lacking; He's shaky about the concept of Pokemon getting injured, and isn't entirely sure he can handle battling. That being said, his studying has gifted him with a knowledge of types and other general tips to help him on his journey. It's uncertain if he can actually use this knowledge properly at the moment, though.

-BIOGRAPHY-
Desmond was born in Phenac City, in the Orre Region. His mother was a nurse, and his father was a Pokemon Professor. Like most regions, Desmond's father had his own research on Pokemon: He researched the emotions and relationships between Trainer and Pokemon, and the potential the combination had. Such research was gravely important to the Professor, and to most of Orre, as the research helped to hopefully prevent another Shadow Pokemon Epidemic from ever occurring.

Desmond's father was but a boy during the last epidemic, but the event had inspired him to pursue the research of Pokemon's emotions under Professor Krane as an aide. Years passed, and eventually Desmond's father took up the position as head Professor in the lab after Krane retired.

As a boy, Desmond spent a lot of time at the lab: His mother was busy with her job, and the lab was generally a safe place for the boy to wander around. His father didn't intend on wasting the time, either: He spent the time teaching Desmond about Pokemon, and the research that went on in the lab. The boy grew up as a bit of a shut-in; Reading books, following in his father's wake to the point that when he had the opportunity to go out and be a trainer, Desmond actually decided to pass it up.

He thought the time was better spent at the lab, and while his father was glad his son was so invested, he preferred the idea of his son having more experience out in the world. From the age of twelve his father had questioned his willingness to go out into the world; And it took years to break Desmond out of his shell enough to get him to agree to going out in the field.

Now sixteen, Desmond is met with the surprise that he wasn't going to be going out in Orre to do field work at all; No, his father was sending him somewhere else entirely. A whole new region. When Desmond questioned this, the simple answer he got was that while he was cooped up in the lab, someone else went and gathered data in Orre. So he'd have to travel farther out to pick up new data.

His father hadn't even given him a Pokemon; He just ensured him this would work out. Desmond figured his dad hadn't wronged him in the past, so doubting him now wasn't really going to get him anywhere. He'd just have to head to this other region and figure out what his father had planned.

Background / Personality

Yui Kaneko was born to a relatively well off family in Sootopolis City. Yui never knew her mother, as she had passed away shortly after she was born. Life with her father was boring to say the least, he was a very overprotective man. Heard as whispers from neighbors and other children, Yui attained her love of exploration and adventure from the knowledge that her father had previously been a very skilled trainer, though his avid care for his wife's Milotic and his own frighteningly skilled Garchomp often gives this away.

Yui was a quiet and curios child, never ready to accept anything at face value. Her homeschooling limited her exposure to the other children, and this ended up creating a socially awkward, curious young woman with a love of pokemon and adventure. Like her father she has proven to be headstrong, and is hard pressed to change their mind once they choose to do something.

Yui quickly got impatient with her father, though she always had Milotic and Garchomp as company, she wanted to start her own journey. Her father disliked the idea, as it meant that he may lose his daughter, if not in the same way as his wife. For years he kept her in Sootopolis, and for years Yui would sneak over to the Pokemon gym to watch trainers battle.

Eventually she made friends with a travelling trainer, she was 14 then, and him 17. He spoke to her of his adventures, of the people and pokemon he met, and Yui listened with complete attention. She was 16 when she finally decided. She ran off with her trainer friend to Slateport city, where she boarded a boat headed for another region. Her father was able to catch up at the last minute, and instead of stopping her he asked a favor, that she take a pokemon egg with her as a gift. He said that he had bought it a month before and it never hatched, that he had spent that long debating and arguing with himself until Yui made her own choice.

Yui eventually departed, promising to keep in touch with her father whenever possible. The egg hatched days later while Yui was asleep cradling it in her arms. The Pokemon was Ralts, but this one was different from it's brothers and sisters, instead of being white and green, it had a white and blue color scheme. Almost as shy as Yui, but much more curious, this Ralts was nicknamed Blueberry. Blueberry has a love of exploration, but is easily frightened by other Pokemon and even some people. This all means that Blueberry has a habit of dissapearing when Yui is not looking, only to explore and frighten themselves by bumping into another pokemon or trainer.

Name: Hara Kokula
A sixteen-year-old woman from Saffron City, Kanto. Standing at 5'8, and strong as an ox.

Hara is the child of two low-level workers for Silph co. her father delivered supplies to the various pokemarts, some even across the sea. Her mother was an assembly worker. Both had aspired to be pokemon trainers as children, but neither managed to make it far, they had business to do. They lived modestly in the large town, which wasn't bad. As a young girl Hara took to playing the kid on the street, and from this early age, she became a rough-and-tumble gal, always horsing around and often times getting into things that were dangerous. All this time she watched more and more friends disappear as they got their first pokemon. Her parents had their own, but they used them for work, and as much as they loved their daughter, they couldn't give up their well-trained allies. What few they had caught as children were sacred to them and the ones they had rarely met with were given to one of Hara's older siblings, leaving her and her younger sister. She had tried other things: Fishing for a pokemon, trying to wrestle down rattata. It often left her coming home scratched up and dirty.

One day, her father went off to cinnabar island to drop off a large supply of burn heals and hyper potions to Blaine, who thanked him with a nice dinner. It was there that the two hit it off, and soon enough they began to meet up irregularly every few years. Blaine became like Hara's grandfather, as he admired her burning spirit. She confessed to him her dreams of training pokemon and showed off her toughness, trying to show him she'd be a good one. Blaine admired her spirit, and when he visited her the next year he came with a pokemon: Growlithe. She was enamored by the kindness, promising to do him proud. Blaine requested only that she come to him someday and take him on, which she promised she would, adding that she'd win too. And so, at 16, she set off with a young pup at her side and her sights set on the world. Unfortunately, in her a few weeks away from home, she's found herself hopelessly unprepared. Losing to bigger parties, running out of money, and unsure how much input she should give her pokemon in battle.

Personality

The most vital thing to know about Keala is that she doesn't like quitters or "wallow in my misery" types. She's the type that believes people need to keep moving in life, so giving up or crying about how awful anything is serves no real purpose to her. Which isn't to say she'll leave others behind on a whim, of course. Rather, she refuses to let others leave themselves behind. Instead of letting someone cry on her shoulder in the rain, Keala is the type of motivator who would drag someone through the mud until they start walking by themselves again. After all, while the world isn't a bad place, it's by no means a gentle one, and thinking otherwise is nothing short of denial. If asked why she takes this sort of tough love approach with others, Keala might say something like "You only have one life, so there's no point wasting with with rainbows and unicorns."

Indeed, people only get a single life, and Keala for one intends to live hers fully. Where new experiences await, she'll eagerly dive in to make the book of her life have just that little extra to it. Although she doesn't live at a rapid pace, it's hard to deny she's passionate about whatever it is she does once she's into it, and fully confident in her choices, even when she knows they aren't smart ones. She likes to try new things, laugh at her mistakes, get up, then perhaps get something to eat with some friends. That's the kind of life she strives for, and anyone aiming to get between it and her will have quite the obstacle to overcome.

Because of her mindset on life, of course, Keala has a special sour spot for people who negatively impact the lives of others for their own gain, or are too busy admiring what they are to look at what they can become. Yes, it's inevitable, but that doesn't make it any more okay to her. In addition to pulling people out of ruts, Keala feels almost obliged to knock people who regard themselves too highly down a peg, and to right wrongs that she comes across. Considering she's just as stubborn as she is willful, getting Keala to turn her attention away from such a task may not be the easiest task.

Perhaps try using food to coax her. Keala loves to eat pretty much anything edible that's put in front of her.

Biography

Although her parents never married, and split up during her mother's pregnancy, Keala grew up with an unofficial agreement of shared custody. Her father found success in Malie City as a motivational speaker, while her mother's gambling addiction saw her living in the downtrodden Po Town by contrast. Although neither of them were perfect people by any means, Hinata loved both of her parents Her father's "tough love" attitude plus her mother's tough locale made Keala one thing above all others: Tough. It wasn't rare for other kids her age to pick fights while she was in Po Town, and in Malie City, the family approach to getting out of a rut wasn't to just wallow in the pits so much as to figuratively claw your way out until you were back in shape. The result was a girl with impressive physical and mental fortitude, but there was one problem.

While Keala absolutely had the willpower to get her goals done, she didn't really have one in mind. Nothing really clicked with her. Not until she thought up the idea of police work, anyway. The issue there being one had to be a trainer to be a cop, and a trainer Keala was not. She was used to encountering wild pokemon, but never really took to capturing and using them. There was no time to worry about thoughts like "but what if I'm not good enough?" in the Melia family though. Instead, Keala started looking for opportunities for new trainers. And lo, she found a cruise ran by one Professor Fern, geared toward new trainers. It was not only a chance to become a trainer, but also to see the world. Talk about two birds with one stone!

Needless to say, Keala wasn't going to let this opportunity just pass her by.
