Okay, this in an idea that I have been wanting to post, but haven't been sure whether it would be too many roleplays for me or not. I've decided to go ahead and do it. Basically, the plot is that there are a whole bunch of unique individuals in a certain city who basically possess the spirit of a mythological or fantastical creature. That's creature, not being. That means that any humanoid races are not accepted. For example, no one could have an elf spirit or a lizard man spirit or anything. Instead, they'd have like, maybe a mimic, or a gryphon, or a troll or something like that. This spirit would manifest as an aura, giving them powers similar to the beast. Only those who possess these spirits can see the spirits of each other. (Possibility of creating a way for normal humans to see them through the use of some sort of technological device). Everyone who has one of these beast spirits doesn't necessarily know it right away. Each spirit manifests itself in a different way. So, one person might manifest right after they are born, while another may undergo a traumatic event that triggers it, or a third person might be trigger it after a certain life change, such as having a baby or something. That part is largely up to the player, as long as I approve it.

I am encouraging people to be creative with their selections, no need to stick to the same old creatures that everyone uses. For example, while phoenixes are really neat, they are also a fairly common choice. Furthermore, there are no undead spirits, as you can't have a spirit of something that is dead. If I get enough interest in this, I'll detail a list of creatures that are not accepted. If it isn't on the list and it's a fantasy creature, you'll probably (not definitely, but probably) be allowed to do it. The plot of the story is something I'll work out if I get some interest. So then, any takers? ^_^

I’ve been trying to join a god forsaken “summoner” type rp in ages but they don’t seem to get past the interest check stage.

Heavy on the quotes as I know this is different.

I would most likely be interested once the ooc goes up as I don’t fully commit or make a character until that piece is finished however.

Sounds neat otherwise.

What about a gargoyle spirit? Does that count? Definitely interested.

Interested.

Edit: By the by I'm probably looking to be something like a Hydra or possibly a Kraken. Something Greek-Myth orientated.

Interested! Would probably go with a golem of some sort. Curious as to why no humanoids though.

Don't a lot of golems fall in the humanoid category? Just curious, I'm not all that familiar with them.

When I say humanoid, I largely mean sentient humanoid, humanoids with human like intelligence. Therefore, golems would be fine.

Yes, gargoyle spirits are fine. I've decided not to do humanoids, because it makes more sense to have the spirits be beasts rather than sentient races. Otherwise the spirit might have it's own personality and everything.

Both of those would be acceptable, though personally I would like to see a Hydra more than a Kraken, as Krakens are a bit more common. I'm not going to preclude you from doing it however, it's just a suggestion.

my understanding of Golems is that they are commonly animated clay, shaped roughly like a man (basically an old, magically powered, robot). Anyway, I'm interested, maybe as a Kelpie. Edit: Would you allow Cryptids? Or strictly a creature with a mythology behind it?

i am interested. I like the idea and the potential on our characters, like the foremention summoning, maybe morphing, and magic.
I am a big fan of the chimera.

No, I'm going to have to say no to Cryptids. When I say mythological I don't necessarily mean only those creatures that appear in mythology. I was thinking along the lines of creatures from mythology AND fantasy lore. I'll amend my original statement to make that more clear.

I must point out that I never actually said anything about summoning. If you look at my original post, I mentioned that the "spirit" appeared as a creature shaped aura around the one who possesses it. Magic is possible, within the bounds of the creature's abilities, and partial morphing as well. You will not, however, be turning completely into those creatures. When I say partial morphing, I mean that you may acquire certain physical attributes of the creatures. For example, someone who has a gryphon aura may be able to morph wings and claws.

Thanks for clarifying! I asked about Cryptids mainly because a Kelpie is also known as a Water Horse and the Loch Ness Monster is, among other things, considered by some to be a modern day water horse.

True, but the species are different, as Kelpie are normally depicted as looking very similar to a horse. Also, Kelpie are oftentimes considered evil or mischievous, or both. Sometimes they are nice, but more often they aren't.

Any advance on the plot of the RP?

Also how are Krakens more common than Hydras? To my knowledge there is generally only one Kraken in different Mythologies whilst some have multiple Hydras. Just interested which Mythology has common Krakens.
But with the partial morphing ability I can already envision a Kraken spirit, possibly I can only morph when I'm in water and I get tentacles etc. Just sounds more epic to me being the big bad Kraken.
Having said that whilst I think Hydra would be harder it could work. It depends on the storyline I suppose.

I meant that Krakens are more commonly know than hydras, therefore more commonly used in RPs. As I said, you may use the Kraken if you wish, I won't stop you.

I thought I'd mention that the Kraken is Norse mythology, not Greek. Common misconception.

In any case, I could be interested in this depending on how it develops.

I'd quite like to play a "common" dragon out of personal preference, though I suppose if that's not allowed I could play a Byakko, or something similar.

Isn't that the great white tiger of the west Bai Hu? Well that's what he is in Chinese mythology anyway
