The year is 2015, and everything seems normal, that is until someone spots a giant meteor heading towards Earth. Given its projected speed and size, not only would it be here by the end of the week, but it would be big enough to destroy the world. Of course, during this week, the human race launched almost every missile it had at the thing, to absolutely no effect, and the only clue as to how we might destroy the meteor was some weird, glowing symbols on it. Unfortunately, said glowing symbols weren't a weak point, or weren't a weak enough point, since, of course, they tried attacking the glowing part, first. It seemed like the world was going to end, there was only one day left, and nobody was coming up with any ideas on how to stop it. That night, at around midnight, someone ran into the formerly closed-off, secret, underground military strategy room with a strange artifact... it was shaped like an eight-headed dragon, and appeared to be made of gold, though, its weight wouldn't even come close to matching the weight of gold... the artifact seemed to have the same symbols on it, and with only one missile, and no other plans, they strapped the thing to the world's last missile, and shot it out to hit the meteor.
Somehow... that did it. The meteor was now a weird, dark dust in the sky, and the human race gets to live another day, right? Well... unfortunately, due to completely unknown causes most likely related to the artifact, the meteor, the dust it became, or all three, everyone left on Earth started to change into strange creatures, some of which were only seen or spoken of as myths, or legends. This, in addition to a lot of people thinking the world was coming to an end this week, caused a TON of chaos... people just started breaking the law, and the police weren't even enforcing it... things were broken, stolen, shot, killed, seriously injured... you name it. Not only does magic suddenly exist, but guns have become a rare commodity, either taken and destroyed, or hoarded by some people who used to sell them... though, usually they were hoarded by gun salesmen, only to be taken and destroyed for almost no reason, afterwards. This is where you come in, waking up to what you thought was going to be the end for you, your family, and all of your friends... and probably surprised at being alive, if completely transformed.
Available species:
Dragons shouldn't need any introduction, they're scaly, vaguely reptilian, sometimes fire-breathing fantasy creatures that most people know about. Better yet, they come in all the forms you'd expect... there are bipedal ones, quadrupedal ones, snake-shaped ones, wyverns, hydras, and even the wingless lizardfolk... which somehow fall under this category. Dragons aren't exactly the most agile of the bunch, however, they have one thing that phoenixes and their cousins, the dracoavians don't... defense! Their scales are thicker and tougher than a dracoavian's, and defend against more than a phoenix's feathers, even if they can't revive, it's not easy to keep them down in a fight. Oddly enough, some dragons may grow a 'mustache' of feathers for some unknown reason... usually, only the older dragons grow that, though.
Dracoavians are a strange bunch... they seem to be a mix between a dragon and a phoenix, and how much they look like one or the other seems to vary wildly. You have everything from dragons with some more feathers than usual to phoenixes with bat wings... not only that, but like dragons, they can be bipedal, quadrupedal, snake-shaped, or even... raptor-looking... feathered raptor-looking, specifically. They are typically fast, and agile fliers, are typically quite quick on their feet, and have a fifty percent chance to just get back up from getting knocked out. Some rumors suggest that they may come back from DEATH, itself, though, nobody seems to want to test that rumor out. Like dragons, they can 'breathe' one of the elements they can use, but unlike dragons, they don't have a lot of defense. They're at least good at defending against magic attacks, so long as they aren't weak to that type of magic.
Phoenixes are just what you'd expect, mythical, powerful, magical birds with the ability to cheat death if either of the elements they control are near their ashes. This, of course takes some time to actually work, and said ashes can be moved to an area that doesn't HAVE said elements to keep them from reviving. Just as well, they also get back up from getting knocked out quicker than most, and while it's guaranteed, it's still slower than the dracoavians. Strangely, not ALL of them are capable of flight, and some of them might even be quadrupedal, somehow, with others looking like penguins, or ostriches. They're naturals at using magic, though they're especially good at using magic to heal.
Gryphons... the part-bird, part-cat creatures have recently been found to be related to chimeras, somehow. They don't JUST come in bald eagle / lion mixes, but really any bird, plus any cat, though, both 'parts' will be the same size so they can fit on each other, and work as one thing. They aren't even limited to being quadrupedal, for some unknown reason. They're at least decent fliers, and quick enough on the ground, but their main draw is their incredible physical attack. Whether they use weapons, or their own talons, they seem to be really good at just attacking the enemies... as a result, many of them only have one magic, and two physical skills.
Chimeras are a mixed up creature that seems to consist of three completely different creatures. Pretty much any three creatures, save for horses, can be a part of the mix, and they can easily have up to three heads, with two or three being more common than one. Since chimeras are such a varied thing, they don't really have any 'trends'. There are as many fast chimeras as there are slow ones, and there are as many tough ones as there are frail ones, with such traits relating to exactly what three creatures they're a mix of. Gryphons are said to be a very special mix of chimera.
Golems are just about the closest you'll get to a humanoid in this world. They consist of a core that uses a specific material to build a vaguely human-shaped body out of. This material can be anything from dust and leaves to more traditional metal or clay... even liquid or gaseous water can be used as a 'material' in this case. They don't exactly feel pain in the same way most creatures do, since they can just replace a broken arm with a few rocks, and won't get knocked out or die unless you damage their core enough. While their core is magical in nature, they're more about physical attacks than magical attacks, and typically only have one magical element, one that's usually tied to whatever material they prefer to make bodies out of.
Dark colored, ghostly beings that can look like anything else on the 'species' list with piercing, yellow eyes. They are hard to hit due to their ethereal, ghostly nature, and they can even pass through walls and the floor to evade attacks... however, once an attack actually LANDS a hit on them... they tend to fall apart. They are always capable of using the rare dark magic, as well as at least one other magic type, and often try to look like specific 'people' who can use at least one of their non-dark magic types. As shadowy ghosts, they are almost impossible to see in the dark, especially given the fact that they can just dim their eyes to make sure they can't be seen. They are naturals at using magic to attack.
Slimes are some kind of sapient, giant colony of bacteria, or some other microscopic thing... unlike most creatures on this list, their entire body is usually just one color. They are shapeshifters, however, they have a 'base' form that they return to once they're done shapeshifting... said base form, again, looks like something else on this list. They can fit into tiny spaces, and even temporarily mimic one type of skill, be it physical or magical in nature, be it used by a friend or a foe, and use it ALMOST as well as the original could. They can also, if they're large enough, try to suffocate the enemy, causing them to, well, fight for air for a while. They also don't take a lot of damage from physical attacks, but magical attacks can be their bane... and along with their mimicry, they can use one type of magic.
While most people don't want to be called 'furries', it's the most accurate name we have at this time. This category covers a wide range of animal-folk, though humans were only capable of becoming 'furries' based on mammals. They have a rather wide range of abilities, but as a trend, they tend to be fast, and strong... however, this 'trend' doesn't apply to ALL of them, after all, an elephant man can't be expected to move too quickly, and a mouse person can't be expected to be TOO strong, not that they can't try to BECOME faster or stronger, respectively. Despite the name, not ALL of them are bipedal, though, most of them would PREFER to at least be remotely capable of holding things. Some people also try to apply this category to the various animals that have been effected by the change, however, since those animals aren't JUST mammals, being every animal species except for horses, many argue against lumping them in with the 'furries'.
There are twelve available magic types in this RP. You may pick either two common, two uncommon, one common and one uncommon, one common and one rare, or one uncommon and one rare. You may NOT choose two rare magical elements without my permission.
Common elements: 1.) Fire (Pretty self-explanatory, create and control flames. Can heal with a specific rune equipped.)
2.) Air (Can control wind currents, and create wind that is somehow razor-sharp, and, if skilled enough, can even use this magic to fly, even if they aren't capable of doing so, normally, or create a vacuum around the enemy's head.)
3.) Water (Can control and create water to attack with the pressure of the created water blasts being dependent on skill. Can heal even without a rune equipped. CANNOT use this element to freeze said water, that would fall under 'ice' instead.)
4.) Stone (Can also be called 'Earth'. Create and control the ground under your feet, and just attack with giant stone fists if you so choose. Skilled users can potentially make an entire building with it if they want.)
Uncommon elements:
5.) Lightning (Or electricity... much like fire, it's pretty self-explanatory. Create and control electricity, and shoot lightning bolts from wherever you choose... skilled users can make a lightning bolt hit their enemy... and stay there for at least a second. Can heal with the proper rune equipped.)
6.) Ice (Can create, and control solidified water, and can even just lower the temperature either around them, their enemies, or in the room. Their main attacks involve icicles, or blizzards, and skilled users can use a blizzard to just bury an enemy in snow.)
7.) Nature (As opposed to stone, this magic involves mainly plants, and small animals, as well as the poisons and venom said plants and animals can possess. Skilled users can bind their enemy in poisonous, spike-covered vines as big as a small car around its base. Can heal even without a rune equipped.)
8.) Magma (The more destructive, powerful, and risky form of fire magic, this magic involves lava, or magma... molten rock in either case, and, while it's incredibly damaging, it... is also really hard to control, and might hurt your allies, as well.)
Rare elements:
9.) Darkness (Control the shadows around someone, or create creatures, and attacks from said shadows... also deals with hexes, curses, and a wide variety of debuffs, and statuses. Despite its name, and despite its reputation, this element can actually heal without a rune equipped... granted, it does so via making an ally sleep, but still.)
10.) Light (The exact opposite of darkness. Control and create light to attack with, or to defend with. Most users of this magic attack with lasers, and defend with almost invisible light barriers. Can also heal without a rune equipped.)
11.) Void (Quite literally, nothing. More accurately, anti-magic. This magic isn't typically used to attack directly, and is best used to disable the enemy's magic, or just disable the enemy in general... this is one of the few elements that can be created by combining two kinds of magic in an attack, in this case, light and dark. Users of this element have natural resistances to MOST kinds of magic, save for light, dark, and art, which they are weak to, instead.)
12.) Art (An... odd magic type that focuses on creating drawings, and having said drawings literally come to life. It's hard to learn, and even harder to master, but it's worth it, since, at the highest skill levels, there's almost nothing this magic can't do. Can heal with the proper rune equipped.)
Name: (Please give us your name... also note that they were human, so no names that are TOO weird.) Age: (How old is your character in years?) Gender: (Male or female... if you plan on having them change genders via the change, put the gender they are POST-change.) Species: (Please choose from the list above) Appearance: (A picture, or a nice text description will work for this.) Bio: (What happened to them before the meteor? What did they try to do while it was hurtling towards Earth?) Skills: (Typically one physical skill {a weapon proficiency, or just punching, kicking, scratching, slashing} and two magical skills.) Runes: (Leave this empty for now... runes will be found and once they are, you can put any equipped runes and their effects here.) Other: (If you want to put any more info that doesn't fit into any of the other categories, put that here.)
Name: Celina Letendre Age: 26 Gender: Female Species: Slime Raptor Appearance: Celina base form looks like a indigo raptor, her head seem to have 2 row of slime feathers going from the top of her head to the bottom. Her arms have some of those slime feathers below close to where her clawed hands are. She is also 5 feet tall.
Bio: Celina had a calm childhood, keeping to herself, drawing a lot on her spare time and listening to school. Her dad worked at a video game company and her mom worked at her school. At school everything went well, with her listening to class, talking to her friends, dealing with girls that keep laughing at others.. well.. the usual we could say.
When Celina grew up more, she learned to take care of herself, taking a particular liking on cooking and drawing… even if her drawing got her into trouble with some teachers at school. She still tried her best at school, actually understanding the subjects of the courses. Although as she grew up, she knew she had to choose which career she would want to go to… become an artist… or becoming a cook at a restaurant. Life itself gave her the choice when a junior cooking competition happened in her town. Her parents, actually knowing how much practice she had at home, told her about it and Celina took some time to think. She then decided to enter the competition.
The competition was fierce… with lot of kids entering, wanting to make their parents proud and get the rewards money of the competition… but Celina didn’t give up. She kept cooking, using recipes she learned but also using creativity to make dishes that were both beautiful and delicious. When the competition was over though… she felt a bit sad because instead of getting to first place… she ended up in second, but she felt like something else happened in that competition… as if one of the judges actually knew the winner.
After the competition, someone from a culinary school came to her, having seen her dishes and how lot of people like them.. and decided to invite her to his college when she was done with her basic studies… so that what she did. She kept learning, actually making some money with the dishes she made… until she ended up working at a restaurant at a pretty good pay.. that is.. until the days before the meteor was supposed to hit. The week before the meteor was supposed to hit, Celina tried her best to get some extra food in her home, wanting to get ready, trying her best to have some kind of bunker… but with the amount of people going around and taking the things, it was hard.. When the announce that nothing work to stop the meteor happen.. she just went to sleep, worried, going to sleep in her basement instead of her own room, just in case there was some way she would survive. When she woke up the next day, she felt.. very different. When she looked at herself… the only thing that came out was a scream as she saw her indigo slime hand with fake claws. She just breathe deeply and stayed back.. what the heck happen here.
Skills: Knife proficiency: Having been a chef, Celina is very good with using a knife, going for precision strikes when needed and moving it around with ease.
Basic drawing summoning: Celina is able to draw things to life for a bit to be able to fight for her… the size of the thing would be maximum the size of what she can draw on a paper. For now she is able to possibly draw birds and possibly a small dragon, but the dragon would not have an element to attack with, it would attack physically. Mimic: Celina is able to mimic some skill temporarily. Runes: Other: Nothing
Name: Jason Blaze Age: 17 Gender: Male Species: Phoenix Appearance:
About 5 feet tall, with a massive, 15 foot wingspan. Bio: He lived in the back streets, and traveled through the city. He also loves a good fight, and will fight to the death to defend his friends. He never knew his parents, and was raised by his older brother in a small street gang that controlled a large block of a city. He enjoys burn paintings and charcoal drawing in his spare time, and he's gotten really good at it, but now his art acts....strange. When the meteor came, he was traveling the state by foot, as he couldn't afford a car. The shock wave from the impact was powerful enough to flip him over, and everything went black. He woke up to the smell of burning, and panicked, trying to stand up, but only succeeding in flapping his wings. He had wings. He panicked for a while, until he finally managed to calm himself down. He then walked around, getting used to his new body. He's still practicing flying, but the most he's gotten so far is to glide a few feet.
He's never been able to prove it, but it seems like the sketches and drawings he's made recently are moving around when he's not looking. He likes making clay figurines and monsters, and he swears that they follow him around. He is trying to find out the extent of his new powers, by testing one thing at a time. He now thinks that his last name was some kind of foreshadowing, and he now spends most of his time searching for others like him. He's also now very hard to fight, because he's added flames to his attacks. He's noticed that he is constantly, softly glowing. His new form now makes him extremely strong and fast, but it is now incredibly painful for him to touch water.
He's seen at least one other survivor, but they vanished before he could call out to them. He's determined to find any others. He knows they'er out there, somewhere. He's taken to stealing what equipment he can use,
Skills: Is a excellent hacker/lockpick, can light anything flammable on fire with a touch, and regenerates extremely quickly. He can cook just by touching the food (if meat) or pot/pan briefly. He knows Krav Maga and Judo.
Name: Mia Reid Age: 21 Gender: Female Species: Dragon Appearance:
She's 5'2" when standing on her back legs.
Bio: Mia has always been shy and reclusive, even as a child. From an early age, she was under an immense amount of pressure from her parents to get good grades and grow up to be successful. They meant well, but it caused her a lot of stress. She spent as much time as she could on studying and homework so she wouldn't disappoint them, and never really bothered to talk to others outside of school. Oddly enough, she was never the target of bullies. She wasn't really one to stand out in a crowd, and most of the time they ignored her, targeting other kids instead.
Eventually, Mia ended up getting into medical school. As an adult, she still rarely talked to people outside of her classes, especially as the workload from her courses got tougher. She managed to maintain the straight A's she'd had since high school, but it was difficult. Caffeine-fueled all-nighters weren't uncommon. This went on for a while, until she was in her third year.
It was at this point that news of the meteor began to spread. Mia was skeptical at first, but as time went on, it soon became clear to her that she had to prepare for it. She managed to stockpile a good amount of food and water, but finding shelter was the hardest part. She had to settle for the university's basement, along with a bunch of the other students. She fell asleep, not knowing whether or not she'd still be alive in the morning.
What happened next was the last thing Mia expected. She couldn't even comprehend what happened at first. It was almost like a dream. Not only had she been transformed, but all of the other students as well. Many of them seemed to have powers that weren't possible outside of fiction, including Mia herself. As they headed outside, there was mass panic. People were tearing the city apart. Almost instantly, she was separated from everyone else, truly alone in this new, chaotic world.
Skills: Archery: Though she doesn't have much experience with a bow, she's better off fighting from a distance. She doesn't fare well in close combat.
Nature Magic: Healing is Mia's specialty, and her magic allows her to summon vines that stitch together wounds, releasing chemicals that speed up the healing process. She can also speed up and control the growth of plants, with the amount of time and magic required changing depending on the type of plant used.
Light Magic: Though the healing from Mia's light magic isn't as potent as her nature magic, it's able to heal multiple people at once, as long as they're close enough to her. It allows her to create arrows made of light as well, though that's her only offensive spell.
And I'm finally done. I may have accidentally wrote more than I planned to.
Name: Shaula Yates Age: 46 Gender: Female Species: Water Golem
Appearance: Shaula is a Golem made entirely of water. She has a blue topaz core shaped like a water droplet that floats in the center of her chest. Her body is mostly the same form as when she was human, though she can change it with practice.
Bio: Shaula Yates was born on November 18, 1968 and grew up on the southern outskirts of Belleville, Illinois. The Yates house wasn't much to look at; it was a small, one-story place down an old gravel road, but it was enough. Her family's financial troubles weren't a problem for her until high school, when she was forced to drop out and find work after her father lost his job. Despite Shaula's efforts, her father's unemployment still took a toll on them, and before long, the bank had repossessed the only home she had ever known. The Yates moved in with Shaula's grandparents on the other side of Belleville, where she found part time work at a restaurant.
Years later, her grandparents had passed away and her family inherited the house. Shaula was struggling through the early shift at a new chain restaurant downtown, always hoping the manager wasn't in the mood to yell at her that day. It was only a matter of time before he was fired and Shaula, being the next most experienced employee, replaced him as manager. However when the time came, it was not Shaula, but a newer employee who got the position. Everyone said he was just a better fit for the job, but Shaula knew better. He had taken advantage of contacts he must have had higher up, cheating to get the job that she deserved.
Shaula was still fuming when she saw something that would change her life. Early one morning while driving to work, just five days after the turn of the century, she happened to look up. A massive, black object shaped like an arrowhead glided through the sky above her. At first she thought it must have been a plane, but it was moving much too slowly and flying much too low. It had a pitch black surface with pinpricks of light scattered all across, like stars sailing through the air. She sped up and turned a corner to follow, but by then it was gone. Her parents would question how it was visible at night if it gleamed exactly like the stars, or would say it must have been her imagination or a trick of the light, but Shaula knew better. She had seen a UFO.
Soon, Shaula learned she wasn't the only one. Hundreds of people across the country had seen UFOs and posted about them online, and as time went by these sightings only seemed to became more and more common. Something big was happening. Determined to find out the truth, Shaula explored the internet and discovered people who argued not only that aliens existed, but that they were already here. Every politician, CEO, or celebrity, anyone with power, money, or fame would be a prime candidate for an alien to possess. These claims seemed to border on paranoia, yet she couldn't stop thinking about them.
At work, her new boss had decided to "restructure" the restaurant, hiring a few people and laying off more. Shaula was one of the unlucky few who got the sack. She had an awful feeling as she drove home that evening, like she was stuck in a horrible, inescapable cycle of jumping from job to job, never progressing, always stuck in her parents' house. She needed a fresh start.
Using the money she had been saving, Shaula packed up and bought a small, trailer-sized house near a city far from Belleville. There, she got a job as a waitress, back at the bottom rung trying to work her way up. Even during this transition, she couldn't help but feel like there was something keeping her from moving up in the world, and her mind went back to what she had read online. What if they were right?
What if the reason people couldn't move up in the world was because those at the top were determined to stay at the top, determined to keep themselves powerful while everyone else was trapped under their thumb? With all their secrecy, would they really tell the public if there had been contact with aliens? Perhaps that would explain all the UFO sightings. Perhaps They were working with the aliens to control the public while They enjoyed living lavishly up in their estates and penthouses. Or perhaps the aliens were the ones controlling Them...
The more Shaula thought about it, the more sense it made. The more she researched it, the more her eyes were opened to evidence of the conspiracy happening all around her, all across the planet. The world made more sense now than it ever had before, like puzzle pieces finally falling into place. It was clear now she had no chance of working her way up. Keeping her dead-end restaurant job, Shaula started a new podcast to bring in donations and spread the word, teaching people across the world what was really happening and how they could fight back against the aliens.
Out of all the secrets the internet had revealed to her, one stood out from all the others. Orgone, ELF tower attacks, chemtrails, none were as demanding of Shaula's attention as the threat posed by the New World Order. The aliens were not content with just ruling the world in secret. The New World Order would create the apocalypse itself, bringing this world to its knees before coming into the open and revealing themselves as the new rulers of humanity.
By digging into her savings account and raising funds on her podcast, Shaula bought a used shipping crate and converted it into an underground bunker in her backyard. For years, she taught people how to protect themselves with orgone and when they could expect the end of the world. Whenever her prediction for the apocalypse would fail, she would simply revise it. In 2015, she was horrified when the New World Order finally put their plans into motion, months before she had predicted. With a week left for the world and chaos on the streets, she was too far away to save her parents.
The night the meteor was to strike, Shaula took one last look at the city before locking her bunker door. If she ever opened it again, it would be to a new world.
Skills: Shaula is able to use water and ice magic, but specializes in water magic. After some more practice with ice magic, she may be able to freeze her body into ice. Also, she isn't very experienced with physical skills but knows how to throw a good punch. (Don't ask why she was fired from her first job.)
Runes: Other: Other stuff, mostly just here for me to keep track of it.
Shaula sat in front of her computer, talking into a webcam microphone and flipping through a notebook full of messy handwriting. "And just the other day, another listener from Utah called in about a saucer. We know they've been putting up more ELF towers around those states - it wasn't gonna be long before they started getting reckless, thinking we're not watching. For those of you in Utah, keep your eyes on the sky. Thanks again for that report." She paused, taking a sip of water and crossing off a line in her notebook. "Now, as for Oliver Henrik's question, yes, orgone is very effective. Not just at protecting you from the ELF towers, but at wiping out chemtrails, too." A comment popped up, 'Turn on your TV.' Shaula paused, leaning forward to frown at the podcast's comments section. Curious, she grabbed the TV remote and pressed the button. A series of grating tones played before it announced, "Please stand by for an important announcement from the president of the United States of America." The cooking show she had been watching earlier was now muted while the voice repeated itself. She changed the channel, but the same thing was happening with all the others. The TV changed to a man standing at a podium. Shaula recognized him immediately; he was just as bad as all the other "politicians", lying through their teeth just to stay in power. Though today he looked far from smug. His eyes were red and puffy like he hadn't slept in days, and there was a hint of worry in his voice that he was trying very hard to conceal.
- The government is covering up the existence of aliens because they have already been taken over and replaced by aliens - Phone towers ("ELF" (Extremely Low Frequency) towers) are actually used to control people's minds and make it easier to convince them of the "lie" - Chemtrails. - Aliens are weak to a type of energy known as orgone - Anyone rich and powerful must really be an alien or be working with them - They're working to bring about the end of the world to create the New World Order - Shaula sees herself as actively at war against the NWO (even before the meteor came)
- Has a desire to help others - Distrusting of authority figures - Strong moral compass - Wants to make an impact on the world - Values the truth - Feels like she lacks the power to truly change anything (but that doesn't stop her from trying)
