The humans, once frightened creatures crawled up in caves, are evolving. No longer solely dependent on hunting and gathering – crops are being planted, small huts risen, villages founded. The tribes are no longer just a group of families bound together by hunger and fear, but real primitive nations, each with a different culture, beliefs or government. Some tribes thrive, rich crops harvested from fertile lands or stolen in raids from weaker opponents, others try desperately to survive in a hostile environment, suffering from harsh weather, wild beasts or greedy neighbors. All are oblivious to a new danger arising, unnoticed in the caves beneath the great mountains, the darkness which is ready to send its forces to the surface to feast on human flesh and souls.

THE OOC

Welcome, I hope that the short intro had caught your interest. I’ve been thinking about this idea for a while now and I believe it is ready to see the light of the world. This is going to be a story-driven nation RP from tribal era. There will be no stats or rolls, it is entirely up to you how powerful your tribe will be, what will be its strengths and weaknesses (but I will ask you to keep things in balance).
I think you can get the best idea about the setting from the sample sheet and the questions in the tribe sheet template, but I have also put together some basic information about the world to use as a baseline. Most of the things written in the "magic" description are meant only as examples, I will be happy if you come up with your own original pantheons and ways of worship.
The RP will be casual, I am not expecting you to write pages of text (altough you are welcome to), but I expect some coherent ideas and story.
I will be looking for at least 2-3 people with WIP sheets (at least some basic tribe and deity ideas) before starting an actual OOC. If you have any questions, suggestions or tribe ideas, feel free to ask me here or to shoot me a PM.

Races
Only humans allowed. I’m sorry but mixing half-centaurs with faeries and lizardmen just creates chaos.

Technology
The technology level will be fairly primitive – think late stone age, so sticks, stones and bones, no metal.

The World
I am purposely not giving you any map just yet, you are free to choose any environment your tribe will live in and I will put it all on the map later in proper OOC. The basic idea is one large continent surrounded by sea, there will be one large river (see the example tribe) with some lakes and a mountain range, probably tropical and subtropical areas. If your tribe wants to live in the land of eternal snow, I don’t have a slightest problem with adding an arctic area, so feel free to pick anything you want.
The fauna and flora will Earth-like, depending of course on the environment you are in. Since this is set in the past, you can add extinct animals like mammoths or sabertooth tigers or even slightly “mysterious” things like giant squids etc.

Magic
No active magic as in fireballs and telekinesis etc. is allowed in this world. There will however be a more subtle magic present in the form of blessings (or even curses) from your tribal deities. Each tribe will have a different system of “religion” – they might be worshipping the sun and moon, a mountain, some kind of animal or even a spirit that reincarnates as a seventh son of a seventh son each generation. This deity will require your people to worship it in a certain way - it can demand eating the hearts of your enemies, sacrificing part of your harvest or maybe kissing a tail of the sacred mouflon. Failing to meet the demands of your chosen gods might result in losing the gifts blessed upon you by your deity, or even a “curse” of some kind. Keep in mind this will be entirely up to you and your storytelling, I will not interfere with that at all.
As for the type of “blessing” that your tribe can get, it might be as simple as better harvest or calling the rain when needed, or more complicated, like giving your warriors strength in battle or allowing your people to see better in dark. All I ask is that you keep it on the mystical side of things rather than magical.

The Story
At the start of the RP, the life of the tribes will just go the normal way (whatever that might be for your people). Soon however, a new danger will emerge – fierce, demonic-like beasts, that will start appearing all over the continent, attacking all living things. How will your tribe react to this enemy? Will you stand up and fight, cower and hide, rely on the mercy of your gods, blame the neighborhooding tribe or even attempt to communicate with the creatures in hope of striking a deal with their master?

Nation sheet
Feel free to make the sheets prettier or add some additional sections if you are a dedicated world-builder. A paragraph or two in each section will be sufficient.

Example sheet to use as a reference

@Lady Selune If it is the one I think, you are accepted!

This is heavily inspired by an interest check I have seen about a year ago, that sadly never made it into proper RP even though there was plenty of interest. Hopefully this one will do better.

Name: The Caelae

Brief description: The Caelae are a semi-nomadic tribe, who typically rotate between three semi-permanent settlements every several years with their herd. These settlements are somewhat distant from each other, requiring a few weeks of travel. But the general trend is that these settlements were made in grasslands and plains that occasionally have small hills and streams breaking up the landscape.

Main deity:
The Caelae believe that everything has a spirit, from rivers to even the tiniest pebble, but the greatest of them all is the Solis, the spirit/god of the sun who leads a sort of pantheon of all the spirits and keeps things in check. Often, Solis is personified as male and appears as a stern, charismatic chieftain whose radiance is too bright to allow anyone to see his face. The Caelae worship him because the sun is both the bringer of life and taker. The sun provides warmth and light, but also can burn and dehydrate. Plants grow thanks to the sun, and yet the desert is proof of Solis's power to take life as well. To keep Solis pleased, the Caelae often hold various, lavish rituals, celebrations, feasts, and offerings. For example, the first day that the flowers bloom is celebrated with the creation of a large bonfire to represent the first Caelis being born once more and guiding the Caelae through divine providence. This bonfire is often then accompanied with the sacrifice of an animal and a feast.

Side deities:
The Tsulae, (what we know as the stars), are believed to be the family of Solis, trusted with supporting Solis when he rests. They are ranked in importance by their brightness and size. The largest, (the moon) is called the Tsulis. A great, large star that is believed to be the sister of Solis. If Solis is the flamboyant, bringer of light, then Tsulis is the calm voice of reason and clarity, helping to guide Solis in his eternal duty.

Government:
The tribe is lead by the Caelis, meaning first of the Cael (adjective form of Caelae), who is the eldest son of the previous Caelis. Legend has it that the first Caelis was born due to the grace and majesty of Solis himself and was made with a powerful flame/explosion. Thus, the Caelis is viewed as the direct descendant of Solis and is gifted with divine right to guide the people to prosperity in this harsh world.

Inhabited area and settlements:
The Caelae have three settlements that they bounce around every few years. The reason for this is because the Caelae believe that Solis powers is spread evenly throughout the world. Thus, if they continue to farm and live off of one specific area, then the crops, plants, and animals would slowly start to die out as a famous Caelae story tells of a time where the Caelae once overstayed in a location and it led to a mass famine as most of the crop failed because they had used up all of Solis' power in the region.

Warriors:
The Caelae are a relatively mobile people. Thus, they rely on the swift hunters of the tribe to make sure that no threat comes too close. However, in recent history some of the hunters have seemingly befriended some wolves who now help the hunters and herders find animals and keep them in check.

Story:
The origin story of the Caelae is that a group of starving cave dwellers saw a man approach them with the sun rising behind him. This man seemingly walked from the sun to them with a small herd of animals. The first Caelis was a nomadic shepard who came across these unfortunate souls and helped them learn how to take care and manage animals rather than kill them on sight and eat them. They learned that over time, these animals would continue to provide for them as long as they protected the herd. And thus, the Caelae are the descendants of the first Caelis and the cave people who have continued using Caelis' knowledge and skills through generations.

Important people:
Caelis - The current leader of the Caelae.

Name:

Saamalasailet (collective), Saamala (colloquial collective), Saami (singular).

Brief description:

The Saamala are nomadic people, preferring to stay near coasts, rivers and dense forests for their needs. They revere the natural world.

Main deity:

The Saamala revere all things natural. Whether animal or plant, all aspects of nature are revered as the deity of these people. Hunting is accepted, and encouraged, but disrespect shown during this process is extremely offensive to these people. For example, hunting an animal without using every part of it is considered wasteful and disrespectful, and it is thought among them that this will bring down the wrath of that animal in the future, or that it will not allow itself to be hunted. The forest and the sea are of particular reverence to these people.

Government:

There is no 'government' among the Saamala, but ancestor worship is prevalent, and the wisdom and experience of the elders is respected and often heeded. As such, the elders operate as a de facto leadership in the sense that they are considered to know best, but do not hold 'official' authority.

Inhabited area and settlements:

The Saamala live primarily in boreal forest. Large rivers, some running for thousands of kilometres, are used as the highways of these people. Boreal trees are used to make canoes to traverse these rivers, and flint from coastal areas is used for tools. The trees, rivers and all other aspects of the geography are revered by these people, and very little scarring by humanity can be seen (I.e no mass deforestation, etc.). The Saamala are somewhat nomadic.

They move during certain seasons so that their animals can feed on fresh growth, and so that they can take advantage of seasonal food (I.e rivers are more useful in the spring and summer because they are not frozen). Therefore, these people can be seen on rivers and coastal areas far more frequently during warmer months, and in land during the winter where herds of animals are more likely to be found.

Their settlements are an assortment of huts and shelters made of wooden frames and covered in animal hides sewn together to make a protective covering. Long-term settlements are constructed of wooden frames and covered with thatching made of branches and earth for insulation.

Warriors:

War is not a typical pursuit of the Saamala. Those who prefer fishing are familiar with frog-spears and the like, those who hunt are familiar with bows and spears, and so forth, and so the people are not unskilled with weapons, but very rarely will they take the lives of people. This is only done in defence.

Important people: TBA as story progresses.

Wow, so many hippie tribes, I was expecting everyone to create murdering madmen eating the hearts of their enemies :D

I will try to post the OOC tomorrow, is anyone here good in making some simple maps? I can probably put something up, but it wont look very professional.

THE OOC is up :)

@Lady Selune Please rework the sheet a bit to the new format

@Heyitsjiwon Looks great, you can move it directly into the CS tab, just please put it in a hider so it is easier to scroll around

@Ozymandias Add a few line to the "Story" part - just how your people believe the world and their tribe were created, where do they come from and why - whatever comes to your mind.

@Irredeemable Needless to say you are accepted, you can move straight to the CS tab :)

@LordZell You can still join in whenever you finish your tribe
