Age:19
Gender:Female
Ethnicity:White, likely some Scandinavian ancestry
Sexuality:Unknown, she hasn't really explored this.
Year:1st year
Appearance:The first thing most people will notice when they see to Amelia is that she is small. A lack of a proper diet has resulted in some stunted growth, resulting in her standing at a mere 5' tall and weighing around 100lbs. She does possess some beauty to her though, having a pale complexion, shoulder length platinum blonde hair that she usually keeps loose and unstyled but will tie back in a ponytail when she needs to focus, and dazzling, dark ocean blue eyes. Her facial features were inherited from her mother, are soft and welcoming, complimented by a dazzling smile that can light up a room.
For fashion, Amelia really doesn't have much. Coming from a rather poor background, she doesn't have much more beyond simple t-shirts, jeans, and a few dresses. She refuses to wear skirts or any dress that stops above her knees, showing a bit of a conservative side to her fashion sense. While most of Amelia's cloths are neat and clean, several sets are covered in paint, ink, and other materials used in art. Amelia does not have much in the way of accessories and she does not wear any make-up, likely due to not possessing any or simply not desiring to use any.
Personality:Amelia is a kind, gentle, and polite if quiet and shy young woman, despite coming from difficult circumstances. When around those she is comfortable with, she displays a bright and cheerful personality, always trying to look at the positive side of things and going out of her way to make sure her friends feel better and are smiling at the end of the day. When it comes to strangers, she is much more passive, often simply observing them and only talking to them if she is spoken to, giving short and to the point replies, as if trying to get away as soon as possible. When it comes to bullies, she has learned to just let them do as they want and keep her head down, not replying to any form of provocation and keeping however much they have hurt her hidden until she can finally be alone.
If there is one thing Amelia is passionate about above all others, it is art, especially painting and sketching. Her favorite past time is to grab a piece of paper, find some nice scenery, and spend an hour or two capturing that scene when many would be happy to simply take out their phone and snap a picture. When working on a piece, Amelia completely blocks out the world around her, her focus on the project in front of her being the sole thing her mind will focus on until someone visually blocks her work or physically touches her.
Despite her passion and skill in art, Amelia is crippled by self-doubt and a low opinion of herself. Most of this can be found to be due to her home life, where she received little support from her family. Her father has little to no relationship with her and the two rarely speak to each other. Her brother has spent most of his life bullying and berating her, both in and out of their home. Due to his influence, Amelia rarely thinks of herself as pretty and rarely sees her art as being anything other then average, despite one or both of these opinions being false. He is also the reason she suffers from a crippling case of astraphobia, or a fear of thunder and lightning. When a storm featuring either approaches, the young woman is quick to hide away or assume the fetal position, shaking like a flower in the wind. If she is in class, she will manage to suppress the urge to hide, but she still ends up shaking horribly and finds it hard to concentrate or write.
Amelia has a very low tolerance for the use of drugs and alchohol, as both have contributed to her life in highly negative ways and she will encourage any friends she has to try and avoid them or drop them if they currently do use them.
Backstory:Amelia was born in the eastern United States, Maine if you're being particular. She was the youngest child in a family of four, including her father, mother, and older brother. Amelia's early life was much like any middle-class child's might be, save for the fact that she was a born mute, causing her family some small issues as they had to adjust to taking care of a child who couldn't really make any sound when they cried. Amelia was loved and cared for by her parents while her brother was indifferent to her at the best of time, possibly due to jealousy at the extra attention his little sister got.
However, things in her life changed when Amelia was only five years old. While driving back home with her children, Amelia's mother was killed when a car slammed into them going several miles over the speed limit. While she wouldn't learn this for years, the person who inadvertently killed their mother was high on some street drug that had been going around their town at that point in time, leading to her present dislike for such things. The death of her mother impacted the family greatly, causing her father to slipped into alcoholism, ruining his life as he moved from one job to the next and began neglecting his children. This in turn opened up the window for Amelia's brother, who openly began bullying and tormenting his younger sister, taking advantage of her inability to speak out against her. His bullying simply started as minor things like pushing her around or taking her toys, but it would escalate quickly, with him locking her outside the house during a major thunderstorm simply because he thought it would be funny, resulting in her severe astraphobia.
The one place Amelia found comfort was in school. It wasn't because she had a large group of friends, as she usually had more bullies then friends, or because she found the school experience enjoyable. She wasn't a stellar student, usually only achieving average scores in most of her subjects. Rather, it was because she found something to do that was purely her own and that she honestly enjoyed. She discovered art and drawing, a way to express herself through a means other then common language. Her art teacher took quick note of this and encourage the young girl throughout her elementary and middle school years, even spending time with Amelia after class to give her private lessons to help develop and focus her interest, building up her skill until she was years above the rest of her class.
Amelia's high school life was relatively uneventful. It changed very little for her, as she would attend school, make some friends, deal with her brother's harassment at home, and practice her art whenever she was sure she was safe, though whenever her brother caught her he was sure to put her down and ruin whatever she was working one at the time. For her, this was simply an average life and she slogged through it as best she could. The only support she had was through her old art teacher, who she would occasionally visit from time to time. The few friends Amelia managed to make were lost by the end of their high school careers, as they generally fell into bad habits that Amelia could not stand and resulted in rifts forming between them that could not be mended.
Amelia didn't get into college right away, as she felt she would be unable to go due to her parents lack of funds. As such, she looked for part-time work and managed to find some jobs where her disability would not be an issue, though they rarely payed well. She had planned on working until she could afford to go to college but for once, life gave her a bit of a break. Amelia's old art teacher had sent out several applications for her, along with some photos of her work. Eventually, she was accepted into Whiteboroughs University on an art scholarship and she is naturally aiming for an art degree. Knowing the scholarship would only go so far, Amelia had applied to several jobs on campus, eventually landing one in the coffee shop.
Other:Amelia has one possession she values above all other, a stuffed rabbit she has had since she was a child. It was the last gift her mother gave her and the only one she has managed to hold onto. She keeps it hidden in her bag that she takes everywhere and will become rather upset if it is taken away from her and will do whatever she has to in order to get it back.
