Stepping out of the shower, Parker wrapped herself in a towel and examined her hair in the mirror across the way. It looks like the color took. The now dark haired girl thought, drying herself before sliding on a pair of jeans. As she got dressed, memories from that night flooded her mind. She tried to shake them away. Push them down. Forget. Maybe if she just willed it hard enough, it would all disappear. But it didn’t, and it wouldn’t. Images of her boyfriend, well, now ex-boyfriend, in bed with someone else flashed in her mind. The sights, the sounds, the emotions drowning her senses. She couldn’t breathe for a moment. It was like she was back in time to the night before, standing in the living room, watching it all happen again in the bed that they had shared. She had come home early, even bringing his favorite donuts from the first place they stopped at when moving to LA. He always had such a sweet tooth.

To pay for the fresh baked goods, Parker used some money she had lifted from a passing stranger earlier that day- a task her lovely cheating whore of a boyfriend had her do rather often. It was something she had grown rather accustomed to doing. In the beginning, it was terrifying to use her slight of hand stills for anything other than fun little magic tricks. Jason, however, called it “real world application.” The guy was a smooth talker above all else. He made her feel special for what she could do. She was small, unassuming, and quick, so she had never gotten caught. Yet. A few close calls, but nothing she couldn’t talk her way out of or sneak away from. The key is knowing when to move on from a target, knowing the risk is no longer worth the reward.

The sting from the mouth wash finally brought her back to reality. She didn’t really remember getting dressed, brushing her teeth, or brushing her hair, but her clothes were on, the toothbrush was wet, and her was untangled. It was like her body was on autopilot. Many days were like that for her lately. She was just going through the motions. She should have seen this all coming. After expelling the liquid from her mouth, Parker looked at her own reflection in the mirror. Get it together. You’re acting pathetic. You’re not sixteen anymore. Please.

With a sigh, the 19 year old checked her phone. In the matter of a moment, a wave of relief washed over her when she saw the notification from Ellie saying that Parker was more than welcome to ride with her. Ellie was such a sweet heart. Quickly, she gathered the rest of her things, realizing she didn’t have much time left.

Parker’s stomach turned as she reached for the doorknob to leave. This was it. Once she left, it was all over. Turning it slowly, she held her breath. She decided she wasn’t going to look back. She couldn’t. Parker knew herself well enough to know that if she did, she might not leave. She might just do what she’s always done and make excuses for him. It was now or never, and with that, she was gone.

Stepping off the bus, Parker glanced around. She looked like hell and she knew it. Dark circles, blood shot eyes, messily cut hair. She hadn’t slept all night and her morning was mostly spent switching between crying and feeling numb. Parker was glad to be going on this trip. It was perfect timing, really. Though, she wasn’t sure if the others knew she was coming, and she wasn’t exactly sure how she was going to explain why she was going, and Jason wasn’t. They seemed to like him. Maybe they were only nice to her because Jason was a racer like them. At least AJ didn’t seem to mind that it was just going to be her. She just hoped the others felt the same. Making her way down the street from the bus stop, she saw the burger joint they loved come into view. The closer she got, the stronger the smell of fries became. Normally, that scent was like heaven, but today, there was a slight grimace to her expression. The thought of food did not sit well with her after everything that happened last night, but as she strolled up to the door, Parker tried to practice a smile or two, hoping not to be a downer around the people who were nice enough to let her tag along.

With a brave face, Parker opened the door and scanned the restaurant. Everyone seemed to be accounted for, except…AJ? Weird. She would have thought that the man of the hour would have been there before everyone else. As she approached the group, she caught the tale end of Matt explaining that AJ went off the deep end. She hadn’t seen him have many of these moments, but she had been told they weren’t an unusual occurrence.

“Hey, guys,” Parker started, trying to sound casual. She slid her book bag off her shoulder and tucked it behind the booth before sliding in next to Ellie. “Long time no see. Kinda disappointed I missed the fall of our fearless leader.”

April's face lit up. "Oh my gosh, I would love to show you!" She exclaimed, bouncing and clapping her hands in delight. "It's all pretty straight forward," she continued with a wave. "The recipes are all on the wall for reference! Here, just follow me!" As she led the small girl towards the back, April wondered to herself if Amelia knew ASL.

When she was in grade school, April had known a girl in their neighborhood who was deaf. They used to play together, and, as they grew up, they communicated through writing until the young dancer inquired about the hand signals her friend used to communicate with her family. From there, the girl taught April how to sign until their family moved out of state a year later. The ballerina remembered a few signs. How to introduce herself, spell her own name, ask for water. Little things. She wanted to ask. She wanted to ask a lot of things, but decided against it for now. Maybe asking a thousand and one personal questions would be more appropriate when theyve gotten to know each other better. Making people feel comfortable and happy was always April's goal, so she pushed back the intruding ideas and put on a bright smile.

"I think you'll like it here. Oh, I almost forgot! Sometimes we like to experiment a bit and bake off menu stuff. If it sells well enough, we've been able to convince the boss to let us make it a regular menu item. He's kinda for anything that makes this place more money," April stopped in front of a counter that had the recipes above it. "Here we are!" She shouted, throwing her hands up. "These are all the ones we make daily, and over here," she said, leaping over towards the fridge and gesturing with both arms as though she were a magician's assistant, "is where we keep the wet ingredients and the fruit. And in this corner," she continued as she turned to her right, now introducing the cabinetry as though she were a WWE announcer. "We have the pantry, where keep the dry or canned stuff." Taking a quick character break, April lead forward and whispered "Flour, cocoa, nuts."

After spinning back towards Amelia, April dramatically dropped to one knee and opened a cabinet under the counter. "And here we have the tins, bowls, and liners!" Standing, April rose her arms "and, ladies and gentlemen, the moment you have all been waiting for, theeeeee uuuuuuuuu-tensillllllllllls!" April slid open the drawer across from the prep station counter, revealing an assortment of cooking supplies. Closing it, she snickered and pointed to the right of Amelia, "oh, and the oven is right there. Any questions?"

April smirked and rolled her eyes at Randall's lip biting. Typical Randall move. Although a little confused, she took his money without a word and dropped the change in the tip jar. Funny that someone who is willing to give extra initially tried to get something for free. She shrugged to herself and resolved that she was probably never going to understand the strange man.

With a spin, April pranced away from the counter and towards her coworkers making a cup of coffee. She leaned against the counter on the other side of Amelia and laughed.

"Don't teach her bad manners! That is so not true! We only mock Randy," the dancer explained with a smile and a quick glance his way. He seemed to be making trouble, like always. April was amused when Amelia pulled out a notepad. At first she thought the girl was diligently taking notes. However, when she showed it to Fara what was written, April become curious. Sliding next to the gorgeous Persian girl, April leaned in close.

"Oh my gosh! Hey, hey, it's okay!" The twenty year old exclaimed, trying to be supportive. "Matina and I do enough talking to make up for it." April continued with a big cheesy smile.

With a guilty grin, April stuck her tongue out childishly. Her grumpy co-worker was always snide like this, but April was convinced that Ursula would come around one day. Being stuck together day after day for hours on end certainly gave April the perfect opportunity to make it work. So really, it was only a matter of time.

"It's okay Ursula, you can dance with me! I don't bite," April said waving her hand teasingly before leaning over the counter, propping her head against her hand. "Unless...that's...what you're into?" She continued awkwardly, unsure if she might be hitting the nail too close to the head. With the way Ursula carried herself and dressed, it might not be a far leap to assume she could be into some kinky stuff. April felt just as awkward considering it as she did making the joke,as such humor was not generally in her nature. However, she's in college now. To entertain, she must keep up with such trends and give the people what they want! Though, the longer she sat there thinking about it, the more uncomfortable she became, and she quickly regretted her decision. Just then, as though, he were waiting for the perfect moment to be her perfect distraction, Randall walked in.

"Oh my gosh, Randy!" April quickly turned Randall's way, hoping to forget her awkward commentary. "Welcome to the party! Aaaand, as it turns out, our employee discount doesn't get us free menu items." Snickering, the girl glanced at Matina. The poor thing was probably never going to live down that muffin. "But, I'd be happy to whip up whatever you'd like," the ballerina offered, theatrically gesturing towards their plethora of machines that sat along the wall behind her.

April waved goodbye to the customer as he walked away from the counter, her cheerful smile becoming disrupted by the music stopping. Confused, she turned her attention to the duo at the piano and overheard the skilled musician ask what kind of game music her adorable bookworm co-worker wanted to hear.

"Ooh! Ooh!" April called, leaning over the counter and waving her hand in the air enthusiastically. She looked like a kid who desperately wanted to be picked to answer a question in class. "Do you know 'Simple and Clean' from Kingdom Hearts?" April didn't know much in the way of video games, but there had been a stint where her ballet team decided to combine a performance with a local high school orchestra. It wasn't shocking when the nerdy band kids took a vote and landed on video gamed themed music for the collaboration. While there were several songs they danced to in that set, the theme to the Disney based game had always been her favorite. There was just an energy about the song that always drew her in. She remembered the routine, or at least her body did. Muscle memory is a fascinating thing.

Glossy lips curled into a smirk as April snickered at Matina getting called out for eating a muffin. April waited till their boss was out of eyesight before hurrying over to Amelia after her dark haired co-worker.

"Welcome to the team!" April cheered, grasping one of Amelia's hands in both of her's. "Its so nice to have a new face joining us, and Amelia is such a pretty name!" The ballerina gushed over the new girl, unaware of Fara's possible feelings on the matter. After all, she remained unaware of Fara's stares for this long, why would today be any different?

April giggled when Jules finally joined the party, "welcome to the land of the living, and waved to Jakob when he entered the cafe. She loved when he arrived. His music made her body sway on its own. During really slow parts of the night, the aspiring dancer wondered if she could request a song or two and practice her routine.

"Small aztec mocha for Freddy." Dark eyes widened when she heard the order called out. Oops, that was her cue.

"Brb," April called, dropping Amelia's hand, rushing behind the counter, and effectively making room for Jules to introduce himself to the newcomer. She slid to a stop in front of a stack of cups and whipped up the order, finishing the drink off by pouring the cream into an elegant leaf design. "Here's your small aztec mocha, Freddy," April said with a sweet smile, smoothly sliding the drink across the counter. "Please come again!"

Olive withdrew their interest in the roleplay.

April performed one last spin before pushing open the door to the quaint little coffee shop she and her rag tag band of co-workers spent their nights at.

"Hey guys!" April beamed while stuffing her earbuds into her bag. "Sorry, I'm late. Practice ran a little long." This wasn't super unusual for the aspiring ballerina. The instructor would make them repeat routines until everyone got them perfect before she would allow them to leave. A tad harsh if you were to ask most people, but this was entertainment biz and people demand perfection. If you want to be part of it, then you have to put in the time. At least, that's what her instructor would say.

Gracefully making her way to the back, April hung her belongings on a coat rack. She slipped on her apron and rejoined the team in the front. It made her happy to look at their matching green apparel. It gave her a sense of belonging.

"So, how is everyone this evening?" April asked as she made her way to a display of wrapped cookies on the counter. "I see we've already started the midnight snacking," She giggled as she fiddled with the array. It'd be a lie if she said she wasn't eyeing one of the big snicker doodle cookies before her.
Finally finished this up! Also changed my username (Was Jade Chocolates) and pic. Figured I'd mention it just so I'm not throwing anyone off.

I think she'll definitely get along with Rosie if/when they figure out they both enjoy baking. ☺
