The year is 298 AC. Jon Arryn is dead, and Eddard Stark has been named Hand of the King. The summer has been long and plentiful, now 9 years in length, but it is certain that winter is on the horizon.

I would like to explore the story of a new (non-canon) noble house. The story will heavily involve the War of the Five Kings, and how our house deals with these events, with a heavy emphasis on character development. The group may split up and follow different storylines in different areas of Westeros. I am undecided on the level for this RP but it will be between High Casual and Advanced.

Death won't be forced on anyone, but it will certainly happen. Inactive characters will be killed off if you go absent for too long, if the majority of the group agrees on it. I will set a limit of 1 character for now, which will grow to 2 for active group members.

The regions I am particularly interested in;

the North - So much happens here in this time period, with plenty of betrayal and divisions. Also thematically very pleasing. A bit overdone though.
the Riverlands - A neglected Kingdom in some regards. Is sacked once in this time frame, and invaded soon after.
the Stormlands - Perhaps divided between Renly/Stannis in the war. A unique region in it's loyalties.

I'm also open to any other kingdom, though. These are just off the top of my head what appeal most.

I'd say either Stormlands with the division of the Baratheon brothers or The Riverlands since it is where most of the conflict resides.

I’m really interested in this. In terms of regions I’d be quite happy with either of the three you’ve suggested.

Some more considered ideas. Let me know which you are most drawn to.

a) Riverlands House. Old and loyal to the people of the Kingdom. Situated near the Kingsroad. Large wheat and corn fields. Main export is crops. Loyal to House Tully and Catelyn Stark.

b) Stormlands House. Maritime, seafaring. Shipbuilders. Main export is lumber. Loyalties undecided. Pro-self survival.

c) Northern House. Very old. Very well defended hold. Warrior people. Loyal to House Stark. Based in snowy hills. Stalwart.

d) Northern House. Based in forest near the Neck. Much gloomier, reclusive. Intelligent, and battle hardened. Loyal to House Stark.

@Danelaw I like the idea of D and just being close to the North in general. Also like the idea of A.

I think the house will be screwed in any of those locations, but I generally have a special preference for the North.

The idea is to split the group up in ways, creating interesting partnerships/sub-plots that will all feed back into the main plot. And your preference is noted!

The north is way overdone in my taste. It would be good but just over used. The riverlands and stormlands would be the best bet in my opinion. More division and open to a lot more sub plots. I'm personal interest resides with the stormlands personally.

Dorne would be interesting if it was around the time of Joffery's wedding and the duel between Gregor and Obeyren.

We are gonna pick up from essentially early first book/first season, or else I definitely would have considered Dorne. I would like to explore the region at some point in the RP though.

@Danelaw Seems interesting. I'm a bit rusty but I hope it will be ok. I'm in.

As for the region : I would say anything that's neutral at start. Reason why : It will generate sub-plots, discussions between our characters on who to support for king.

A wild idea I have (not sure if that's where you want to head with the RP but if not, it's all good), we could even join in the war with our own elected king. One of us/a NPC.

So, Stormlands. Warriors, honest-ish, strong, resilient.

Another idea, wild again. A house/tribe from the other side of the Wall which somehow gone over the Wall before the tribes where united.

Although they both sound like great ideas for RPs it's not really the direction I was looking for. I am thinking more towards a smaller house, with little standing in the war overall. More a tale of survival and family, than glory and conquest. In terms of the over-the-wall idea, it could work, but I am more inclined to the cultures/traditions of the Seven Kingdoms.

The reason I wanted to start on one side of the war is to push the survival, live or die, make or break feeling for the RP. That being said, I'm pretty open to what you guys want. It would just be 'easier' to structure a story around direct war.

I'm happy to hear any other ideas! As soon as we decide on a kingdom I will get to work writing up the house's basic information and will put together some roles to be claimed.

As yet another interested party I would be very interested both the Stormland option and the Riverlands, however, considering the growing number of interested folk I don’t see why both can’t be on the table? Maybe they could even be rivals?

This is certainly a possibility, I like it.
However, I think we will start off with one house, flesh out the relationships and such. And then, if we can get the RP off the ground, I'd be more than happy to bring in another set of characters. But as I say I'm eager to keep it local at first.

My first vote is stormlands. The infighting between Renly, Stannis and the pretender Joffery would be too good to pass up. Second vote would be riverlands.
