Strengths:
One of the best Hyperdrives in the Galaxy - The Hyperdrive equipped to the CL-43 is one of the best in the Galaxy in this era. It has achieved this through excessive use of Mechu-Deru by Jedi Mechanics during production. The drive itself is technically a class one, but modifications have been made by Jedi Mechanics, to allow a force user to utilise their Force Speed to essentially overclock the Hyperdrive, allowing it to reach a Hyperdrive rating of 0.7 for short bursts.
Stealth - The CL-43 is designed around stealth. Utilising several advanced stealth technologies to make it extremely hard to detect. Unless you know its there, it can be very hard to detect. Though, if you know what you're looking for, there are some strategies to detect the ship. Namely, the pilot cannot use Force Stealth to hide the ship during Hyperspace travel, meaning Trained Force Users can detect it as it drops out of Hyperspace. For non-Force Wielding individuals, magnets or gravitational fields are good ways of detecting the ship, if you know how to calibrate your sensors to look for it.
Weaknesses:
Locked Weapons - Unlike most ships of this size, the weapons can not spin. The weapons are locked in place, requiring the piolet to move the whole ship to aim the blasters.
Shielding Technology or lack thereof - The shielding for the ship is rudimentary at best. While it does possess Deflector Shielding, it is really only the bare minimum required to survive in Hyperspace. The design of Cl-43 is focused more around sneaking around an enemy ship, rather than engaging in direct confrontation.
Force Linked Onboard Remote Control -While the technology itself could be seen as an advantage, as it allows a single pilot to in theory perform multiple jobs on the ship at the same time, but for most, such multitasking leads to error. When not in the command chair, the controls are sluggish at best, and downright unresponsive at worst. Trying to pilot the ship requires concentration. It is damn near impossible to do any practical piloting if there is an intruder boarding the ship, that the pilot has to fight. Additionally, the security on the technology is pretty weak. It has no way of knowing which force user is the owner of the ship. Thus, having multiple force users on the ship can lead to dramas, as they both put in conflicting commands.
Experimental Hyperdrive - While the Hyperdrive is very fast, it is still in its early phase of development. Sometimes it doesn't activate when needed, and can easily overheat if used at 0.7 for extended periods. Additionally, to run at 0.7, it requires the Jedi Pilot to focus, through the force. This has the added downside of giving the ship a largely "Force Signature" while in hyperspace. Making the ship easier to detect while in Hyperspace if it is running at its maximum.
Description:
- Shadowskin. A matte black finish of light and sensor absorbing material that was applied to armour to increase its stealth capabilities.
- Sensor Jammer. A type of device capable of blocking or fooling sensors. This could effectively cause a ship to go unnoticed by any possible observers, and also to prevent an attacker from gaining a weapons lock on the ship.
- 0.7 Class Hyperdrive. To go fast, quick enough to outrun standard imperial ships.
- Reserve power cells. In case something goes wrong.
- Small common space & kitchen. It is uncertain how long someone will be aboard such a ship, so amenities have been supplied.
- Furnished living quarters for 2. In case the Jedi Shadow has a guest or is working with a partner. The living quarters can be locked using a specialised code, effectively turning a living quarter into a cell.
- Refresher. A bathroom, so the Jedi Shadow can remain clean, and relieve themselves.
- comm suite. So the Jedi can remain in contact with the Council. It is encrypted to prevent the Empire from intercepting the transmissions.
- Exo-suits for 2. To allow the Jedi shadow to operate in hazardous environments, such as the vacuum of space.
Advanced Features:
- Thrust Trace Damper. A stealth device used to help conceal the presence of starships by capturing the exhaust gases from a ship, and waiting for them to cool before expelling them into space.
- Force Stealth Augmenter. A device designed by the Jedi Shadows, and produced by Jedi Mechanics to enhance a Jedi’s Force Stealth capabilities, extending them to the whole ship.
- Force Linked Onboard Remote Control. A device that allows a Jedi to pilot the Ship from anywhere within the ship. Allowing for a lack of conventional controls. While the responsiveness and ease of use are best while seated within the ‘cockpit’ the Jedi can leave the cockpit to perform other duties aboard the ship.
