Soar is a fantasy racing story set in a futuristic world that has become enamored by a new sport known as "Soaring". Participants known as "Soarers" race each other on land, air, or sea on tracks that are unique to the way you're traveling and change with every race. The full world details are going to be outlined here so that people creating their OCs will have an idea of what they want to be and how they want to design their characters.
SOARING: A sport invented after Anbu Igurashi created the first Kit around 30 years ago. Soaring is a high speed race that takes place on land, air, or sea where racers must navigate winding courses and make split second decisions due to the sharp corners and winding pathways that change with every race. It is an extremely popular sport worth billions, but it is one that excludes those of lower incomes and backgrounds, which is a point frequently used by social activists and politicians.
KIT: An exosuit designed for traversing at high speeds no matter the terrain. The creator, Anbu Igurashi, originally created them with the intent of shortening travel time and distance between countries for people who wished to see their loved ones, as he was always away from home. Seeing his invention used for such a creative purpose filled his heart with joy, but as it became perverted by money and politics, he became dejected and reclusive over time.
GENMU: Slang term for "Genetic Mutation". A terrorist attack 50 years ago accidentally unleashed a biological weapon that irradiated an entire city, causing its inhabitants to suffer from genetic mutations that granted them supernatural abilities. Fearing the threat that these people could cause, the Homestead Government issued a declaration that all Genmu are forbidden by law to use their abilities and are forced to remain in the irradiated city of San Angeles, now known as the Badlands. Any Genmu illegally crossing the Borderline or using their abilities while legally across the Borderline will be subject to imprisonment or death. In recent years, these laws and those who enacted them have waned in influence, allowing select few Genmu to obtain their own political and in some cases militaristic powers. Out of fear of war, the Homestead has allowed more freedom to areas past the Borderline, but not by a considerable amount.
ORDER OF THE REDLINE: A mysterious group of racers who task themselves with the duty of righting the wrongs in the world through racing in whatever medium is the most popular at the time. Their sills have exposed corruption and ignited a fire in the lower classes to rise up and be heard. However, the Order has been silent for the last 30 years.
~~"MAGIC" SYSTEM: FULL DECK~~
Kits have three (3) components that Soarers must take into account when they build or modify their gear: the Variant, the Model, and the Method. For Genmu, their is a fourth component that must be factored in when building a Kit: the Genmu Edge.
+VARIANT+: the form of transport being used by the Kit. There are three (3) Variants: Sky, Road, and Azure, each representing aerial, land-based, and ocean-based travel respectively.
++MODEL++: the frame of the Kit. Frames used to be simple race cars back when Kits were first introduced, but as time passed, Models began to take newer shapes to fit the desired mode of transportation that Soarers individually wanted. There are five (5) Models: the S, the K, the Z, the R, and the latest Model, the X.
~~MODELS BREAKDOWN~~
-Model S Kits are race cars resembling typical Formula 1 style cars. These are the oldest types of Model and somewhat uncommon. They are most often used with a Road or Azure Variant.
-Model R Kits are stylized racing motorcycles. These are also uncommon to see. Almost exclusively used with a Road Variant, but have been operated with a Sky Variant before.
-Model K Kits are hoverskates. These are rare to see in official races despite their street popularity. They are the only other Model aside from the X capable of Hybrid Variants, as they are simultaneously capable of using Road and Sky Variants during the same race without needing to switch parts.
-Model Z Kits are hoverboards. These are more common to see than the Model S or Model R, and are wildly popular on the street, but not seen very often in official races. They are exclusively used with a Sky Variant.
-Model X Kits are full exosuits outfitted with modular ionic jet propulsion engines that resemble wings affixed to the torso of the suit. This engine allows for three dimensional movement at all times at high speeds. They are currently the most popular Model used in official races, though the cost of acquiring, building, and maintaining a Model X keeps those with lower incomes from being able to adequately use them. They are simultaneously capable of being able to use all Variants at any time.
+++METHOD+++: Each Kit is modular, meaning that it can be modified with additional tech that can be useful during a race. They can be focused on individually or used in conjunction with another Method so long as there is a primary focus. There are three (3) Methods that Soarers can specialize in when building or modifying their Kit: The Saboteur Method, The Bunker Method, and the Rush Method.
~~METHOD BREAKDOWN~~
-The Saboteur Method is an offensive Method that specializes in attacking or disrupting the Kit of other Soarers. The tools for Saboteurs can range from miniature EMPs, flash bang charges, spike launchers, grappling tethers, etc.
-The Bunker Method is a defensive Method that specializes in fending off attacks from Saboteurs at the cost of a small amount of speed. The tools for Bunkers can range from defensive shields, automatic repair kits, sonar detectors, emergency heat seeking reduction flares, etc.
-The Rush Method is a neutral Method that is not concerned with anything besides increasing the Soarer's speed and reflexes. It can be used in tandem with Saboteur and Bunker Methods, but are considerably less effective than pure Saboteur and Bunker Methods due to the lack of space to fit tools when the Kit is currently fitted for speed. Since the Rush Method primarily focuses on speed and reflexes, there are only a few tools available to use for them. These include, but are not limited to, grappling hooks, short range teleportation engines, and "Burst Tanks", which allow for temporary bursts of extremely high speeds.
++++GENMU EDGE++++: This only applies to Soarers who happen to be Genmu. A Kit was not designed for Genmu experimentation, and as such Kits are prone to break or malfunction when exposed to the energy generated by a Genmu's abilities. Any Genmu who Soars is allowed to use their abilities (as they technically fall under a Method this way), but they are not allowed to modify their Kits with an additional Method. If a Genmu is running a Saboteur Method due to their Ability, they cannot modify their Kit with Bunker Method tools. If a Genmu is not using their Ability when they are Soaring, they are allowed to spec into an additional Method if they choose. Because of the sheer power and unpredictability of Genmu Abilities, the fourth factor Soarers must take into account is called the Genmu Edge.
That's all for the detail of the system of Soaring and a brief introduction into the world. Rules and regulations for Soaring will be written in a separate post in the OOC tab if/when there's enough people interested in joining this Roleplay. When you make your OC, take into account how YOU would want to race and what you would want yourself winning in. Your OC's personality will be reflected in their Kit, so think long and hard about what you want to create.
