The Labyrinth city of Orario, the home of the towering Babel and the sprawling, underground dungeon. Home to all the world's various races and many of the Gods and Goddesses who descended onto the earth to live alongside their children, Orario is the home of many Familia and even more adventurers. Some specialize in exploring the dungeon and its depths, while others focus on crafting items or even providing other, certain, services.
But regardless of what they do and how they make their living, each Familia is busy with their own lives and their own goals. Our story in particular however, follows the road of a few, select children, new to both the world and the vast opportunities - as well as dangers - that Orario and the dungeon beneath it can offer. Will they come to grow into legends and earn renown? Or will they like so many others bcome corpses and food for the monsters in the dark depths below?
Only time will tell how, where and what will become of these young, fledgeling adventurers and their small, budding Familia. But the time is now for them to take their first step, to march forward into the world of adventure, exploration, magic and even intrigue.
Welcome to an alter oration, of DanMachi. Story Information:
this story is a semi free-roaming roleplay set in the DanMachi universe, several decades prior to the events of Bell Cranel and the Hestia Familia. Players have the freedom to do pretty much what they want, be it exploring the city of Orario, going into the dungeon, visiting the market and shops or just hanging out with each other at an inn or their Familia's home. Actually doing things is what matters in this story, so get out there and try everything!
The main plot is divided into seven chapters, and each chapter has a specific event or goal that needs to be completed in order to progress to the next chapter. This means that you, the players, have the choice of deciding how long or short the story will be. It also means you're free to focus on what you want to do yourselves, rather than feeling rushed or forced by a GM to do certain things in a certain order. Complete and finish the chapter's goals and events at the pace you all want and feel comfortable with.
Of course, you don't have complete freedom. As the story is set in Orario, you'll have to stay within the city limits. There is also a day-night cycle, which will prevent you from stalling or taking all the time in the world to do things. In addition, you will have to eat food and drink water at least once a day, as well as sleep at least four hours - otherwise, you risk bad things happening.
But other than this though, you are pretty much free to explore and do whatver in Orario, Babel and the dungeon. So go forth and have fun! Rules:
If you intend to take part in this roleplay, please follow these few rules.
1. You must make at least one post each week. If you have something that prevents you from doing this, contact me before your time-limit expires.
2. Do not start flame wars or act hostile towards your fellow players. It's fine to argue and discuss, but don't become destructive or toxic towards each other.
3. You may only play as one character at a time. If you want to make a new one, you'll have to retire, kill off or make your current toon into an NPC first.
4. Avoid meta-gaming always. If someone thinks about something inside their head, your character should not have knowledge about it. You should not be aware of events that took place in a location you wasn't even close to, unless someone told you about it. In general, don't be omniscient and be fair.
5. Nobody has plot armor. Your character is neither all-powerful nor indestructible. You can and will die if you aren't careful. Poison, disease, bloodloss, burns and other things are very real hazards that you can't just shrug off - unless you have the proper skills to do so. Be careful, be reasonable and be willing to not be in perfect condition all the time.
6. Have fun! This is a roleplay meant to be enjoyed and make you smile. You're not supposed to feel that it's a chore or a nuisance to deal with. IF you're not having fun, send me a PM and let me know why and we'll see what can be done. Important Information:
In case you aren't overly familiar with the DanMaci series, please visit the link above to read up on and/or find answers to some of your questions. Even those familiar with the series should pay a visit every now and then in order to brush up on certain things.
If you have questions, please do ask. It's much better to ask if you don't know, rather than wing it and end up having to redo an entire post or character sheet simply because you made incorrect assumptions. I'll be happy to answer anything you want to know, and if I don't know the answer myself, someone else might help you instead! Character Sheet Template:

Mage: This class focuses more on using magic and spells to achieve their goals. Be it blowing up large groups of enemies, smiting a large opponent or healing their allies, mages focus more on spellcasting than physical prowess. They are more likely to develop skills that augment magic.
Smith: These people mainly focus on crafting weapons, armor and accessories for use in battle. They can repair damaged gear and, given enough skill, can even forge Magic Weapons. They typcially develop a mix of combat skills and skills that help with crafting.
Supporter: This class focuses on helping their party-members. Be it carrying extra gear, collecting the Exilia from slain monsters or buying the items needed before a dungeon-crawl, their job is to make life easier for their allies. They typically develop utility-skills, as well as being very good at haggling. Player List:

Reposting here, not sure is we still need to decide a Familia, but if we do, Athena would be pretty cool!
Personal Information:
Name: Torran Doal, but will accept most monikers. Age: 23 Gender: Male Race: Boaz
Appearance: A massive humanoid with impressive musculature, it's easy to see why he took a role like Supporter. His skin is very pale due to a lack of sunlight and is pocketed by a myriad of burn scars. He somehow manages to have an unintimidating face despite his body, and can almost be described as slack-jawed. His movements lack any real grace or practice behind them and saying that he lumbers around isn't too far off. He'd probably be slightly taller if his posture was better, as he usually ducks to avoid hitting doorframes and to appear less intimidating.
Torran typically dresses in garish colors that his childish mind finds fashionable, and he prefers to be as covered as possible - he enjoys the pressure that comes with a tight collar or heavy clothes. He desperately wants to wear heavy plate armor like his father makes, since it would make him look super cool.
Height: 6'8 Weight: 240 lbs Eye color: Dark Brown Hair color: Light Brown
Personality: Despite his large and overbearing physical appearance, Torran is extremely docile and submissive to most people he meets. Even the thought of attacking a person sends shivers down his spine, and he doesn't enjoy attacking the monsters in the dungeon. The only reason he even became an adventurer in the first place was so that he could protect people who go into the dungeon since he heard that many people die there. He only recently moved out of his parent's house to join a Familia, and it is clear that he has no idea how to take care of himself.
Torran barely manages to survive on his own - he's more like an extremely large child than an actual adventurer and is dependant on his Familia for most things that require literacy or advanced arithmetic. He is childish, and even more so, completely directionless in life. Going to the dungeon is one of the few things that makes his days differentiate from one another, and give variety to his otherwise dreary lifestyle. This isn't even mentioning that he is scared of a large variety of things, including (but not limited to); Spiders, the dark, drunk people, and extreme heights.
Despite these faults, Torran is accepting of nearly any person and is almost always the least aggressive in the room. He is quick to forgive, even quicker to forget, and believes peoples words without a second thought. He is very easygoing and doesn't get angry easily, so he is very popular with children and merchants. The worst part about him is that he lacks any sense of personal space, and will almost always go for a hug as soon as possible.
Likes: Compliments, Protecting people, Easy things, Kindness, Talking to people Dislikes: Hurting people, Moving fast, Feeling useless, Reading, Mean people, Alcohol Hobbies: Weightlifting, Digging, Eating, Sleeping, Counting inventory, Playing, Knitting
Background: Torran was born and raised in Orario, although he spent most of his time in his parent's house. He was homeschooled, and while he was never forced to stay, he never felt the need to leave and make friends with the children outside. Instead, he spent most of his time with his mother and father, playing with them and doing his best to help around the house. His days mostly consisted of moving heavy materials and equipment for his father, who was a smith, and helping his mother knit clothes for her shop. Torran was much better at the former, mostly because of his freakishly large hands and huge stature, which meant most of his time was spent moving things for his father. An accidental burn at the forge quickly stifled any attempt Torran's father made at teaching his son smithing, but Torran was perfectly fine sticking with simply moving things.
In Torran's eyes, life was absolutely perfect. Well, other than the fact that he had no drive or goal in life, and every day was exactly the same as the one before. Torran lied to himself about the monotony, telling himself that it didn't matter as long as he had a full stomach and a warm bed. But even someone as dull as him knew that life couldn't continue as it was, that he needed an opportunity to make life go by slower, and let him savor each day as it happened rather than let it pass by. This opportunity came in the form of an adventurer.
It was very rare that Torran's father was visited directly from a customer - usually, his father sold his wares to a shop or Familia, which in turn sold to adventurers. Apparently, the armor that the adventurer had bought was slightly too small, and while the shop didn't offer adjustments, they gave him the address of Torran's father. After exchanging a few Valis and getting to work, Torran had nearly an hour to simply sit and chat with a new person - and not just that, but they were an adventurer! Torran had never really known much about the dungeon, despite it being one of the main attracting points of his home city. As soon as Torran heard that people went in there for treasure and power, and some people never managed to make it out, he knew exactly what he needed to do.
Later that night, Torran fled his parent's house with his life savings and some of his fathers worst equipment. Being an adventurer was exactly what he needed to break the monotony of his life, and he even got paid for it! Torran never for a second thought that he might die, instead focused entirely on joining a Familia and giving himself a cool codename.
Appearance: Leela has a fit, athletic build with long legs and, to put in polite terms, is particularly blessed up top. She has dark, mocha colored skin and a careful eye might spot a few scattered, faded scars here and there on her body - long since healed and barely present. She has prominent eyes with long lashes, a heart shaped face, and an up-turned, slender nose. Her eyebrows are thin and soft angled, though often hidden beneath her bangs. She has long, waist-length hair she keeps pulled up into a high set and wild ponytail.
When it comes to her attire of choice, she dresses the same as many of her people do: revealing, colorful clothing and adorned with numerous accessories. She is particularly fond of skirts and sleeveless crop tops, and wears golden bracelets, anklets, necklaces and earrings.
Personality: Leela is a proud, enthusiastic and vibrant young woman that lives her day to day life in a focused, determined pursuit of the goals she has set for herself: join and excel in a Familia, become a legendary adventurer, and find herself a worthy suitor. As part of this, she invests a great amount of focus into her training, her health, her appearance, her social life, and how others see her. While she is genuinely kind at heart, much of her efforts to be considerate and helpful are with the motivation of being regarded well by others.
Although she tries to be on her best behavior, she does have her faults. She has a competitive streak a mile wide and can easily get wrapped up in high spirited contests, and she has a tendency to be bombastic in her speech and mannerism - making grand gestures and showing little qualms in making physical contact with others. Often this ranges from chastising thwaks upside the head to appreciative hugs and other displays of affection.
At times she fails to consider other peoples comfort zones, or only afterwards realizes how she may have come across as rude or obnoxious, and during those times she is quick to apologize and attempt to correct her behavior in order to save face.
Background: Born in an Amazoness village as nearly all of her people are, Leela's upbringing was the usual fare early on. She had an older sister and a younger sister, she had close friends and those she couldn't stand. Her relationship with her mother was perfectly normal, sometimes strained but more often than not happy and respectful, and she had never met her father. During her early childhood she was energetic and sporty, performing well enough. However, she was aimless and lacking the passion or enthusiasm to really excel at any given activity she participated in.
While some might have been content with such average qualities well into adulthood or throughout their entire lives, she came to find it lacking. After reaching the appropriate age and setting out on her journey to find a suitable mate, she found herself simply... Lingering around, not really doing much more than living day to day. Unable to tolerate this lack of direction, she started searching for something to pursue and devote herself to. Not just something to be good at or make a living through, but to thrive and go above and beyond even the wildest expectations anyone might have for her or anyone else.
Eventually she settled her sights on becoming an adventurer, and with such grand goals it was only natural that her gaze came to rest on the infamous Dungeon of Orario. So, she sought serious tutelage in the ways of combat from those who were or had been warriors at one time or another in their life, traveling across the land from settlement to settlement. She trained, studied, and learned, and once she felt she had a solid enough grasp on the bare minimum needed she set out for Orario. Actually reaching Orario took a few years all on it's own, traveling in spurts mixed with her continued training, camping and the odd job here and there to make ends meet.
When she arrived, she set three goals for herself: join a respectable adventuring Familia as soon as possible, become a legendary warrior like no other by conquering the Dungeon, and keep an eye out for a suitable male to start a family with. Only time will tell how successfull each of these ventures proves to be for her.

Good, good. Then we got the two pre-OOC characters submitted now. Now we just gotta wait for the rest of the peeps to start submitting their character sheets as well.
I'm gonna go through Torran and Leela's sheets again before I head to bed in a couple of hours. But unless something major was done to them, I'll be sending each of you a PM with information about any stat or skill-related tweaks that'll be allowed to be added by you.
To anyone who has immediate questions, I suggest you go take a look at our old Interest Check, and if you can't find your answer there - well, just leave a post here and I'll get back to you tomorrow after I get home from work.
I'd like to remind anyone applying that, in the case of more applicants than we have available slots, this is not a first come, first serve-based recruitment process. If there are too many applicants, you will be evaluated on the quality, diversity and detail of your character.
But for now, I wish you all a good night. Looking forward to see what'll be waiting for me when I get back home tomorrow. :)
Really? Nothing? Nothing at all? No VMs, PMS, OOC or Char posts? Not a single one...? *Deflates into empty sack on the ground*
Well, maybe I should give you all something to do then, while we wait for more applicants. It just so happens that we still haven't fully decided on what Familia you lot want to belong to in-game, we've had two votes for Athena, but that's from a very small list I provided in the Interest Check. To remedy this, I've gona ahead and included the entire list of possible candidates I had in mind. You'll find them in the hider below.
But that's not all. I'd also like you to find a picture to go along with whichever Goddess you choose to vote for. There's no guarantee I'll use it for the official profile, but it might! And at the very least it'll help me get ideas and get a feel for you guys' tastes and preferences. Not that such a thing matters overly much, since I got a pretty good idea in my head already, but suggestions and new ideas never hurt to see/hear.
On a different note;
You know when that feeling when you're only going to buy a handful of groceries at the store. You come come up to the register and there's this one old guy infront of you. And of course, rather than use the provided shopping-baskets that the store supplies, he uses his own litle satchel-wagon which forces him to bend all the way down, and then back up again, to put one item at a time on the conveyor belt...
Thats a very oddly specific feeling, but I do think I know the one.
Also, shame about no new profiles or nothin so far, but it's early yet!
As for the expanded list, hummm... Athena, Artemis, Hathor and Bellona would all be good, and I wouldn't mind Bastet, Sekhmet or Kama either. The others are also okay with me if people lean that way, too!
Edit: My google fu is a little weak, but here's some contributions to the possible-images thing for some different goddesses:
So, you're fine with anything? xD That doesn't narrow it down though~ T-T
Alright, new rule. You may only choose ONE! >:(
Also, I'm going to be taking a brief nap... For like... 2.5 hours... Still a bit sick and tired from work. I won't go anywhere though, I'll be right back here when I wake up.
On that note... Torran and Leela really should get pictures... Just sayin'. ;)
Apologies for not being helpful in narrowing it down! I am pretty open to any given goddess, since the way I see it if it's one that's very "fitting" for Leela, like a war goddess, then well that makes sense. If it's one that's not fitting for her, then that could be fun to play off of at times and likely it was the only Familia she could get into or it was simply the first one to grab her up. So for me at least, it really is pretty open! That said, if you really need one specific vote then I suppose I'll just say Athena, since that's still my "top pick".
Enjoy your nap and hope you feel better! Being sick sucks.
On the note of pictures, I'll dig around and see what if I can find anything suitable for Leela. At the very least face-wise, since the entire thing is pretty specific and I doubt I'd find an exact match unless I drew it myself or got super super lucky.
I've updated the "Important Information"-section with links that go to various parts of the wiki that may be very useful to anyone looking for more information. Please note though that the map of both Orario and the Dungeon are going to be slightly different in this story, since it takes place in the slight past and the supplied maps are of the "current" or "present" Orario/Dungeon.
Also, note that the Skills Lists aren't complete. There are plenty of other skills, in both categories, out there. I just thought it would be helpful to add these so you could all see how Skills work and such.
Name: Dahlia Pendragon Age: 24 Gender: Female Race: Human
Appearance:
With an average figure, Dahlia has retained a surprising amount of muscle underneath a layer of fat. In fact, in a library filled with nerds, Dahlia would probably be the strongest one there (which isn't saying much). A long-term diet of lifting up massive bundles of books and an unhealthy cycle of fasting and binging had left Dahlia with an unexpectedly healthy body. Her skin is pale from not going outside for months at a time. Despite her horrible habits, she is surprisingly well groomed. After all, she has to be well groomed in order to protect those ancient books from mold and mildew.
When she leaves the library, she wears thick clothes that covers almost all of her skin. Even in the dead heat of summer, she'll refuse to let any dust touch her skin. Even though she's a fledgling adventurer, her clothes are considerably more expensive than her contemporaries. After all, being a librarian and protecting years worth of knowledge tended to pay more than killing goblins.
Height: 5'8" Weight: 160 pounds. Eye color: Dark grey Hair color: Black
Personality: Dahlia is a bit of an eccentric. On the outside, she appears to be a bit of a klutz that can barely trudge through social interactions. It'd be more accurate to say that she has a different rhythm compared to most people. Her sense of timing is, compared to the average person, highly precise yet entirely inaccurate. When she talks about her interests, she can rattle off dozens of interesting tidbits and facts, but she struggles to talk about topics that she holds zero interest in. Her primary obsession that drives her to dive into the dungeon is her encyclopedia; all she wants is to catalog every single monster inside the labyrinth. In essence, Dahlia is a theory first, practice second woman. With her immense theoretical knowledge on many things, she tends to absolutely moff up everything in practice.
Likes: Trying new things, writing, realistic drawings, verifiable conclusions that can be repeated, books, good organization, and cleanliness. Dislikes: Mold, mildew, illiterate people, artistic licenses, ambiguity, the sun, things that are truly random, and poorly kept records. Hobbies: Recordkeeping and collecting books.
Background: Born in Orario, Dahlia wasn't an adventurer until she was solidly an adult. In fact, since she was a child, she helped take care of the vast amounts of literature held within Orario. A scholarly sort of girl, she spent her life around books rather than people. These books shaped Dahlia; she spent all of her youth learning what was contained in those books that she cared for. Manuals on combat? Read. Monsters? Burnt into her head. Romance novellas? Seared deep within the confines of her mind, but there for sure.
But a deep lack of knowledge filled her with disdain. The books that she loved so much weren't infallible. Terrible blights such as poor record keeping, incorrect information, and inaccurate photos plagued these books. Spurred by this lack of perfected knowledge, Dahlia had decided to enter the dungeon using what wages she had collected from her time as a scholar. She would create her encyclopedia, chronicling every monster and floor that one could encounter.
And really, that's all there was to Dahlia's motives. She was just a girl with a dream to make a book.
I'd suggest you just think about what you want her focus to be though. Do you want her to be able to fight, but use some magic, then maker her class Adventurer. If you want to focus on magic, make her a Mage. There's no rule or anything that says Adventurers can't learn and use magic (see; Bell Cranel, Welf Crozzo and Ryuu Lion), nor that mages can't actually fight (see: Riveria).
The classes are mostly there to help you decide what you want to focus on majorly. Also, don't forget to vote for what Goddess you want from the little list, and don't forget to add the 'Class' and 'Familia' sections to your sheet (check the updated Character Sheet in the first post of the OOC).
Other then that, Dahlia looks real nice. I don't see any reason why I shouldn't accept her right now. So once you finish editing the missing bits, I'll go ahead and contact you cia PM regarding stats and skills and whatnot. :)
All classes can learn magic/spells, Mages just have an easier time increasing their Magic Stat and gaining Magic-related Personal Skills. Mages can fight using weapons, but they're usually not as good as Adventurers who primarily focus on that aspect.
A die, huh? I just so happen to have a Online Dice Roller app open in my internet tab here...
Edit: I've added OwO and Dahlia to the list of crrent players. Please remember to post Dahlia's sheet in the Char-tab of this thread. :)
I've also added the 'Magic, Spells & Chants'-link in the 'Important Information' part of the first post, in case anyone wants or needs to read up on that. It contains some very useful information, like the different types of magic, what happens if you fail at spellcasting and contains a long list of spells and their respective chants.
I'm going to head to bed very soon however, so I bid you all a good night and hope to see you all tomorrow again. ^^
Just to give my two cents, I don't mind voting or dice - dice might actually be kinda fun just because then we could end up with someone nobody really would have voted for, and that can lead to all kinds of interesting things that normally wouldn't happen depending on how the goddess in question is, what their domains are, etc.
Considering I don't know much about the Gods and Goddesses of Danmachi, my vote goes for the die. It's never let me down before. Except that time I was rolling HP for my Rogue in D&D and got three nat 1's in a row...
Also, thanks for adding stuff on magic, that'll be useful. Maybe not my brightest idea to focus on magic in a magic system I know nothing about, but ay, I'll do my due diligence and read up.
