I've been integrating little bits of Jacob's backstory into my posts, but basically, he joined the army when he was eighteen and served for a few years as a foot soldier before he was selected to train as a personal guard to the royal family. He takes a lot of pride in his work, so ever since he was promoted to captain of the guard he dedicates most of his free time to his job (probably at least 70 hours per week). He doesn't have much of a life outside of his work (that's why he isn't involved with anyone; he works so much he doesn't have time to meet any women or maintain a long term relationship), but he's well-liked among the other guards, and he's friendly with everyone he meets (specifically other high borns). He doesn't show a lot of emotion in general, so he comes across as tough, but on the inside, he's really torn up about what he thinks happened to Cas - partly because he sees it as his own failure to protect his future king and also because he really liked Cas as a person. He's quietly observant, so he saw Cas's potential to be a great leader and believed he was going to be an influential king after Atlas passed.
Of course, there's more to his history than that, but those are some key points that might play a role in the story as we move it along :)
Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how Regis handles it! I figured that since he's delusional, the interrogators will still have a hard time figuring out what's true and what isn't among the things he says while he's under the influence of the drug.
And Cas is having a hard time with the fact that he hasn't seen any soldiers from the capital come looking for him yet ^^; He's already insecure because of the way Atlas treats him, so this isn't helping him at all with his skewed self-image.
