Lore

In a world where magic exists, yet not everyone can use it. Those who desire to go for the path of magic face great hardship in training under the rare few who mastered this path. In this world, children are usually done with the basic school system by the age of 16, then they have to pick a career to live their life doing. Most follow their parents and work under them. But some choose to follow the path of magic and seek out the various master to learn the basics of magic and start their journey, their reasons for doing this is entirely their own, they could actually be following their parent's foot steps but aren't allowed to be taught by their parents for many reasons, they could of had some encounter in their life that made them admire magic, heck some could simply be wanting to learn to simply learn.

Masters of magic are highly revered and feared to many, though the exact number of masters are unknown, only few designated masters are even allowed to take apprentices to ensure the highest survival rate for them. these master's authority can be much greater than even the various kingdoms, for there is an unspoken rule that these master in exchange for peace they are allowed to do what ever they wish in their territories. The reason for these rules is there use to be much more kingdoms than currently exist, multiple of them was wiped off the map because they angered a Master Wizard.

Our story takes place in, a huge hidden valley surrounded by mountains except on one edge which contains a beach to the sea, the territory of a wizard simply known as 'The Dragon' as a group of teenagers (4-5, ages 16-17) travel to train under this wizard and learn magic.

World

The world consists of 5 continents seperated into different corner of the worlds, 4 of them circling the center fifth continent which outclasses them in size, each with various kingdoms. There is three major human kingdoms. The Dottidian Empire, which owns the northeastern continent in it's entirety. Then the other two human kingdoms The religious sect of the Stairia empire and the Voston Dynasty fight for control on the southeastern continent. The North western continent consists of Beast-kin tribes, they are people who look human but have animal features (animal ears and tail for some of the most simple ones), these people was original the creation of wizards who preformed experiments on humans and animals.
The southwestern continent is a barren wasteland, there use to be other human kingdoms that existed here but they was wipped off the map for their own greed of going against the wizards, these place has never been recovered only things that live here is monsters that strive in the wasteland, as an example to all others. The final continent is called the Neutral zone, small towns live on the edge of the continent where people of the two known races intermingle all they desire, they trade with the various kingdoms and the unknown amount of wizards that find this land their home. This continent is covered in a verity of landscapes because of the wizards, and monsters love to roam these lands because many are the experiments and creations of these wizards.
Within these various kingdoms there are many beliefs. A common belief in the human kingdoms is discrimination against non-human species, while the Dottidian Empire will take them as slaves, the other kingdoms like the Stairia empire will outright kill them seeing them as vile impure creatures. The neutral zone is only place that various races can live in peace because there is no kingdoms, it is simply communities striving together to survive. The world has a shared currency the only difference being the picture on the currency, it consists of Bronze, Silver, and Gold coin, 100 bronze=1 silver, 100 silver=1gold

Magic System

The magic system in this world works in a system of Runes and Magic Circles. In such a way magic users create magic circle designs in their minds using various runes they have discovered or learned of in their time. They then project this magic circle into existence before them, the bigger and more complex a magic circle is the longer it takes to use, more magic required, and harder it is to control. These Circles use these limitless runes to create the spells wizards cast. While the specific design of a magic circle doesn't matter, as long as it has the required runes it will normally succeed, as long as the wizard casting it has enough magic, control, and time to do so. There are other special forms of magic circles for enchanting, summoning (first time), rituals, and similar things, they follow the basic rules but require physically drawn/created magic circles instead of mental creations.

Example: a magic circle consisting of the magic runes with the meanings 'Magic' 'Small' 'Sphere' will create a small sphere of pure magic energy before them.

Important Notes

This roleplay is majority based on the development of the characters to build the story. The posting requirements be anywhere between 2 sentience to a paragraph or more as a low casual roleplay. There is various sections where the characters will not have any kind of direction, left to their own devices in free time sections to do as they desire. The discord chat is used for easier communication between rpers. No apprentice character can use magic at the start of the roleplay, it will thought in roleplay after they meet the master. Everyone can learn any magic they try to learn in the roleplay, given enough time.

Name: William Ascot

Age: 16

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Appearance:

Talent: William's talent is Narrative/Stories, a power that sounds weak, until one realizes that everyone and everything in this world is part of one, larger, (hopefully) neverending story. With this power, William can find out the underlying stories of people, places, and objects using the right magic circles and runes, as well as give mundane objects the powers of legendary weapons (also through runes). Not merely that, but he can also make the stories of others easier or harder by manipulating coincidences for and against them, even to the point of invoking a Deus ex Machina in order to resolve an outstanding difficulty. However, trying to manipulate the world's neverending story comes with a cost, and this cost can be destructive for William or those he chooses to bless.

History: William was born in a tiny village in the Neutral Zone, where various Human and Nonhuman races lived together. His father was a bard while his mother was a herbalist, and their settlement was prosperous enough to afford a small library, one manned by a person who called himself a Wizard (whether he really was one or not is irrelevant). As he grew up, William had two best friends, a Harpy Girl by the name of Clarimonde and a Human boy by the name of Harald. They played together, were educated together, and learned of the world together, including about the stories of the various oppressive nations around them.

This education was accelerated by the arrival of Alexander Ascot, William's older brother, who was a mercenary who fought to bring money back home to his hometown (and who was also one of the reasons why such a small village was able to afford a library). Alexander brought warnings of the Staria Empire's recent aggression in its quest to slay all Nonhuman races, and adviced the village to look to its defenses, even paying for the construction of a ditch and a wooden palisade of sharpened logs. But those were not enough for when the Staria Empire finally sent a raiding force to exterminate William's hometown.

And this would have been William's first acquaintance with the cliche of the 'Doomed Hometown', if not for the fact that the local 'Wizard' turned out to have power after all. As the Staria Empire's soldiers began their attack, tossing torches at the houses to try and burn them down, the Wizard raised his hands, and several runes appeared inside the village's ditch - The ditch was actually the outside of a magic circle, while the wooden palisade had runes hidden inside its logs!

The Magic Circle was to summon the God of Stories himself in order to save the town, and he did - The Staria soldiers instantly vanished, the burned buildings were restored to normal, and anyone who died was ressurected.

However, there was a price for such a Deus ex Machina, as Alexander Ascot and the Wizard were found in the middle of the village square, transformed into jade stone. The price for summoning the God of Stories for such a 'small', non-epic matter was this - That Alexander and the Wizard be frozen into statues until the village raises up a Hero who can please the God of Stories himself. And William, upon finding this out through the notes left behind by the Wizard, decided to be that hero, and seek out 'The Dragon', the legendary wizard of wizards, and learn from him personally!

Other: Below are potential spells for William for when he gets an apprenticeship.

Convenience of Coincidence - William can make a coincidence happen that benefits himself or another person, whether it is finding an expert on dragons on a quest to slay (or befriend) a dragon, causing an accident in a neighboring room to happen when he needs to sneak out of his classroom to do something he thinks is important, or just getting a letter meant for someone else sent to him so he can learn its secrets. The cost of this ability is that it can only be used once every page of the IC, which in turn is explained away as 'when the forces of Narrative say it's convenient'.

Reader of Existence - William, by touching a piece of ground, a building, or even an inanimate object, can conjure a holographic illusion of important events that happened on the ground or building or occured within range of the object. This illusion, being based on physical light and not mental effects, cannot be dispelled by the usual anti-illusion countermeasures, and keeps on 'playing' until the record of the most important/pertinent events (aka information William was looking for) have played out.

Imitation better than the Original - William can duplicate Legendary Weapons (the equivalents of Excalibur, Mjolnir, and the Spear of Destiny), by mixing metals/wood/stone with his blood. The more of his blood used in the re-creation of the item, the more powerful the duplicate is; the upper limit is the original power of the item. And no, magical healing cannot replace William's blood and thus provide a workaround around this requirement.

Hero Calls for Aid - William can distort time, space, and probability to call on whatever allies he has made all throughout the current RP, calling them to come to his side at his time of need. The only requirement of this is that 1.) He genuinely needs help, 2.) It is the climax of a personal story arc or an arc of the RP itself.

Ascot ex Machina - When his help is called for, time, space, and probability distort for William so that he can come to the aid of his friends just in the nick of time; the requirement is that 1.) they call for him specifically, and 2.) they genuinely need him. Whether he can actually help is another question entirely.

@Letter Bee

your going to need to change that, no Dues ex machina style magic stuff man. There is various types of magics and style of magic. Talent is basically just something that gives them an advantage in learning and using what they are talented in.

Examples:
Battle Magic Style - essentially close combat magic, using magic to do things like coat your hands in fire as you punch your enemy and so on.
Necromancy - undead type magic focused around manipulating the bodies of the dead from simply manipulating the bones of the deceased to raising their body as a mindless machine.
Holy Magic - magic able to bless people with enchancements or protections against unholy magic and curses.
Everyday Life magic - normally consisting of ways to clean your homes, fix small things, etc..

Talent just dictates their compatibility that is all. a character can choose to learn all 7+ of the elemental magics and use them when they get the hang of it while having the talent for simple cleaning magic.

also none of the three human nations would even dare try to attack anyone on the neutral zone because this is where most of the oldest mages live and they all understand the power of some of the most ancient of these people.

also don't go making any gods like that, I haven't state how any of the pantheon is for a specific reason that might get revealed later we will see.

@CelesteEste

Talent is just their compatibility to a type of magic or style of magic it wont affect what the character can and will learn. it just determines how quickly the character will be able to use a specific magic type vs the others. You have wrote it like it's what the character wants to learn instead of what they are naturally better at.

the story is.. interesting to say the least. mages trying to copy the mages of old is indeed something that could happen, and that could prove to be a very interesting story point later. though you didn't say were she was originally from.

which I'll say the Dynasty which I forgot to speak about directly they would discriminate but they wouldn't enslave/kill. after all most humans in power fear what they can't understand. which is why those in the neutral zone can live so peacefully because they face the unknown on a day to day basis and have learned it isn't something to fear. after all the neutral zone is crawling with monsters and other things thanks to the countless magic users that live there.

@Shadow Dragon

in terms of race no, in terms of your character's talent in magic sure. Transformation/Shapeshifting magic exists, just remember your character doesn't know how to use magic at the start, they will learn it over time in story.

@Jasper19
interesting choice of a hyena never seen someone use one of those lol. it's cool you want to keep the character history from the others but your going to need to send the main points at least to me in PM since I gotta know all the factors the players bring to the rp, where they came from, their desire etc... simple things that could affect a possible arc later.

@Tomaru
yes it's still accepting for the time being since the one character that was close enough to be accepted hasn't been on for 2 days so we still looking for a full team.

also you sure you want your character's talent to be in sand magic? it's a possible thing to do but it's also a pretty small over all talent. it'll help him slightly when learning earth magic since sand magic can be derived from earth magic, but otherwise he wont have any other helping boosts in training and be facing full blunt of the hardship to learn magic lol.

That is fine, by going with earth you'll have a boost to learning the basic Earth magic, and it's a boost to all magics made from earth magic. Sand, Metal, and Construction. with a Minor bonus to Golemmancy if you want to mess around with that.
