SETTING
Welcome to the world of Vrenorza, a magic infused land like many others, yet completely of its own. Explore complex biomes, filled with bioluminescent trees and other greens, harsh deserts that hide the most dangerous of creatures beneath its shifting sands, deep oceans with hidden treasures, and much more!

CHARACTERS AND MORE

Here, you will put in your character bios (I'll post an empty one down below for you all) before you hop into this blank slate of a world. It's something of a sandbox, if you will, for now. We'll make cities, creatures, stories together.
There will be guilds throughout the land, each one ruled by someone in the roleplay. You'll have to run your guild by me first to see if it's good to go, but otherwise you're free to recruit and do with it as you please! For now, there will be four main guilds. One will be run by myself, and the other three are open slots for anyone else interested.

One thing to keep in mind is that this world is not technologically advanced. It relies on magic far more than anything else. Though that's not to say magic is the only way to do things. Swords, bows, etc still do exist in this world. In fact, many classes you can choose for your characters might not even use magic at all! Think along the lines of dungeons and dragons, except more magic.

When making a class, like anything else, you'll have to run it by me first to ensure it's good to go.

Love the concept but not sure about the execution, feels a bit too rushed/loose to me.
But none the less, I am interested and will follow this and see how it all plays out.

Instead of planning it all out myself, I wanted to try having a bit of an open world setting to see how people want to go about it

Might be interested in this, though I must ask, what's the status of space and/or time based magics? Is Chronomancy a thing and if not, what about portals? I was thinking either a Guild that polices time travel or time magic use, or a Guild that provides magical transportation via rifts in space-time.

Portals can definitely be a thing, though of controlled size so it's not too OP
Time based magics might be harder to implement, but if you're able to do it in a way that could still flow with the roleplay then I suppose it should be fine

So here's my guild thus far. While not necessarily a guild in the traditional sense of the word, it still functions as an organization and it's desire to find and preserve knowledge would allow its members to interact with other's throughout the course of the roleplay. Maybe some necromancer or some such wants to use Eldritch knowledge or an old ritual tome to take over the world, well the Watchers would definitely get involved. Not just to take the knowledge from said villain, but help save the world so there's a steady stream of new knowledge to collect.

And I know there's no advanced technology in this, and I've sort of given a reason for that in my WIP sheet here, but these guys do have some magitech. Though the most advanced stuff is keeping the Athenaeum in pristine condition while lesser items and devices are used by those who leave it to go back to Vrenorza to collect things. Anyway, let me know if it fits or not.

It's mainly small things such as recorders that use a type of scrying magic to copy texts and such. To avoid attracting too much attention, most agents will dress and act the same as people in the world, the habits of whom they've studied over the years, or simply pretend to be seekers of knowledge from far off lands. Faceless nobodies one doesn't pay too much mind. The main bulk of advanced tech is in Aroth itself, and even then there aren't really any warmachine type devices due to the orders dislike of conflict. Most of the existing tech in the Athenaeum is used to keep it suspended where it's at, though I do plan on having members who are sent out into the world use specialized devices that use teleportation magics for transportation back and forth. Still have to think that out a bit more, but it won't be overpowered. As for the agents themselves, I don't think I'll have them use magic, at least not all of them anyway. Make it sort of varied. Some use magic, some are skilled with the blade or fist, and others are really good at lying, etc.

As for the Engineer Corp, they will be maintaining the Athenaeum itself obviously, and making useful items for agents to use out in the field. May or may not have them be biologically immortal as well just to make it more self contained, though that can be changed if needed.

I do like the concept of a guild controlling and monitoring time magic, to make sure nothing gets too out of hand

my character would be a part of the Union, taking position of a "Field Researcher".
Which means lots of sharp stuff, glass vials and DoT stuff.
Also potions possibly.
The Union hardly uses magic.

Class name:Field Researcher
Main weapon: one handed bladed weapons
Generally bone saws, daggers, and various "surgical tool"s.
General skill set:
Difficulty level (how long it would take to 'git gud'): It'd take some time to gather actual effective materials(as, by common logic, stronger enemies with stronger poison to research will come out later in adventures) to utilize in combat, so difficulty would be high.
Usage in battle: Field Researchers collect data/samples from the field, and put them to use directly. They can create various solutions that can either provide buffs for the allies or debuffs for enemies. It could be a handful of medicine powder, or a vial of antidote, or a carefully kept flask of strong acid. Apart from their affinity of the weapon of choice, collecting and utilizing materials from the field is the key method of their combat. And also out of combat.
Any other information you can provide: Most field researchers are fighters with the patience to sit down and study medicine for at least a year or two, but some doctors decide to take arms and research on the fields too. Rarely though.
Field Researchers get a discount on purchasing common medicine ingredients and flasks if they shop from a Grey Doctors Union merchant.

Almost done with the sheet for the guild, but class has started up again, and that in combination with the roleplays I'm in, and a fanfic I have to upload another chapter to has kept me pretty busy lately. Almost done though, just need to fill out the section on the Orare.
