Aside from their raw physical and arcane power, many types of devils possess the means to warp and affect the attention of others. Tieflings may inherit some of these traits from a manipulative devilish ancestor.

College of Satire
Bards of the College of Satire are called jesters. They use lowbrow stories, daring acrobatics, and cutting jokes to entertain audiences, ranging from the crowds in a rundown dockside pub to the nobles of a king’s royal court.

Backstory:Charlatan
Scam: I put on new identities like clothes.
Feature: False Identity
Personality Trait: Sarcasm and insults are my weapons of choice.
Ideal: Aspiration, I'm determined to make something of myself.
Bond: I come from a noble family, and one day I'll reclaim my lands and title from those who stole them from me.
Flaw: I can't resist a pretty face.

Azzen Thorn was an arrogant and spiteful noble in his younger years.
Spoon fed from a silver platter he became accustomed to the finer things life had to offer and developed little from the experience besides an expensive taste and a sharp tongue.
All it took was a pretty face covering beneath it a heart filled with greed and hate, along with the support of the local church, to bring his family’s name to rest and ruin.
After all it is not hard to blame a Tiefling.
In just one night everything was taken from them and before the sun could rise, his whole known world was gone.
It was only because the worth of his jewellery and the aid of his fathers shady contacts that Azzen had managed to escape at all.
There was nowhere safe left for him so he was sent elsewhere as someone else. Quickly discovering a talent for subterfuge and deceit, he expanded on the aid he was given and took on many new lives and personalities, each one conning and swindling others from coin much like he had been himself.
With a penchant for delivering the truth and wanting so badly to be herd he eventually joined the collage of satire and became a jester.

Now that I got some time to relax and now sit down and think here, I have a few questions. These are general questions to everyone participating and right below that list are more specific to you players. Also I'm planning to make and move to an official thread where we can start. Just want to finish a bit of fleshing the world out and showing in on the first post in case there are any back story things that you may want to edit based on how the world is. But for now, I hope these questions help to pass the time for the official start and get a better sense of our characters :D

General Questions:
  • What are your character's likes and dislikes? A minimum of two things is good enough.
  • Now that we have a bit more people, does anyone feel their character may know another character or was traveling with them before being taken?

You can start on the Azzen's character sheet, but I do have a it of a question. For Azzen, he was raised as a noble, family lost their high social status, and with his personal talent, became a jester. But I'm still curious of what is Azzen's goal after he became this kind of bard? What made him seek to venture out? There is already the ideal mentioned, but does Azzen already know exactly what he wants to make something of himself or is this something he is still thinking about?

Seeing as you have a feat for Angus, I'm guessing you chose the human variant. But what skill did you choose to be proficient as I'm only see the 4 skill proficiency that you would get from the class and background? The same for the extra proficiency or language from the INT mod. Also I was curious of Angus's age as you mentioned "Though all are expected to return to the clan at the age of 30 to settle down, contribute to the clan, and help create and raise the next generation." So I was curious where he was on that timeline and if commit to this tradition of returning or more committed to slaying Faerguaine and reclaim the stolen relic of the Whispering Claymore?

For the two extra skill proficiency or languages from the INT mod, what did you spend them on as I'm having trouble seeing where they were spent? Also during the years that Najila was in Ralim's Cosmological Sanctum, would there be any things that she would be curious or have some interest about? Although she was not allowed to go into some rooms, she could still hear about them. Also, were there any questions that you feel, as player or character, that you feel like asking about Ralim as Najila has been with him for years and sure there may be questions, especially the whole situation that changed her life when she was 6 years old.

Ora! I've come to bring the glory and blessings! Time for the shoe to be on the other foot, and with that being said, I have come bringing gifts. Behold! My CS. Subject to change of course, with one thing in particular: Normally Eldritch Knights must pick one Evocation and one Abjuration spell upon becoming an Eldritch Knight. Considering they only come in knowing three spells, that means only one spell they choose can be of any of their choosing. Thematically I'm sure it makes sense, but personally I would like it if I could simply choose any Wizard Spell available for my level, regardless of what school they belong to. If you'll allow me, my three spells would likely be Feather Fall, Find Familiar, and Healing Elixir.

Additionally, I have questions about how you handle the melee cantrips (Booming Blade and Green-Flame Blade) with reach weapons such as my glaive. Basically, can I hit someone with my Booming Blade cantrip at 10 ft (Glaive range) instead of 5 ft (Booming Blade range)? I can easily invest a feat (Spell Sniper) to extend the range if I cannot hit with booming blade at 10 ft, though I do consider such limitations arbitrary. Regardless, I hope to be able to join.

Likes: Indulging, fine foods, clothes, wine, women, jewellery and entertainment.
Dislikes: Being dirty, being silenced, being ignored, being a no one.

Travelling companion: Anyone who could use a bard on their adventure, that promised coin or fame. (Or was a pretty lady)

Enemies/allies: The church of his home town would be his greatest enemy, they sit on the land and wealth that belongs to him.
Shiera more so than any other, the one that used deception and betrayal to elevate her status in the church, taking advantage of Azzen.
She knows that he knows the truth of her lies and is the only one who can undo all that she has done but luckily for her no one would believe a tiefling over a prominent member of the church.
Azzen’s Father is now in prison for a crime he didn’t commmit. While not guilty of this murder he still had some questionable associates from his past.
These shady figures could now almost be considered Azzens allies (when he has the coin) with one or two from the same college as him.

Big question/goals:
He is unclear on his direct path at the moment but just knows he needs to build up his fame and resources before he can challenge the church. Everywhere he goes he subtly attacks their reputation with his performances trying to put doubt into the minds of his viewers. He is always seeking ways or leads that might undo their fame and reputation. He plans a public confrontation where the people will aid him, anything behind closed doors will just lead to his immediate execution. It is a long way away where a devil spawn can stand up and accuse the church of such misdeeds that the people rally for retribution, but he is starting that path, one day, one coin and one song at a time.

1. Najila definitely likes learning new things, exploring, performing, and even taking the time to read and do research. She also likes animals, but they may not like her as she's more used to familiars and other animal-like spirits such as familiars. Some people she likes...others, not so much. EDIT: She also likes gossip! She loves to talk about people and some things she may or may not have noticed about them.

As for dislikes, she absolutely does not like sitting and doing nothing. She gets antsy. She also does not like being stuck in one place, nor being forbidden to do something. She fears going back to the Cosmological Sanctum and having Ralim not let her go back to the Material Plane ever again.

2. I don't think Najila would know anybody here, or would have traveled with them. But I am open to suggestions from other players if they have an idea.

3. I think after Najila got her bearings in the Material Plane and started performing, she would have a lot of admirers as "The Desert Rose", but she would have one enemy. That enemy would be a noble she satirized. That noble, to put it simply, was a creep who wanted to be alone with Najila, a pretty lady, for the night. Thankfully, Najila was able to get away from him. But the next night, she decided to sing a comedic story regarding the situation and she may or may not have exaggerated it to get people to laugh. She didn't realize that he was in the audience, and he wanted her head. Thanks to some of the admirers' aid, she was able to flee the city before he could even try to see to her head being separated from her body.

Character Questions

1. I think I may have misunderstood the rule. ^^" Initially, I had picked Acrobatics and Investigation, and I thought it only made them a +5. But now that I have a better understanding, I have chosen Deception and the Celestial language for the extra proficiencies. I have adjusted the sheet to show those changes. Sorry about that.

2. There are a lot of things she's curious about. She especially liked learning languages and about different cultures and their stories, on the material plane or on different planes. Language is how people communicate and tell stories after all, and a culture is like an identity. She was also very curious about almost all of the rooms (especially the Celestial and Water Plane Rooms). Though mention of the Nine Hells and the Fire Plane would have scared her.

3. I think Najila would definitely have asked him why her father gave her up. And if the answer did turn out to be because Ralim asked for Najila in return for the treasures, she would ask him why Ralim asked for her as the price. Though, I doubt that Ralim would answer those questions. She also probably would have asked Ralim about how her family was doing, and if she could see them.

The only question I can think for now is Ralim's thoughts/attitudes towards other Warlock Patrons. What are his feelings on them? Would he have warned Najila to stay away from other warlocks/patrons?

Orchid likes lemon/limes as well as listening to music. She finds music and oral traditions to be a common thing about other cultures and is fascinated to learn them. She dislikes stereotyping and generally feeling like an outsider. She understands that she is both typical and strange as an orc, as orc fighters aren't unusual but ones who are interested in learning other cultures and generally being cerebral are. That being said she hates how she felt growing up as both an orc and at the orphanage, and tries her best to be accepted wherever she may be, though she typically hides her feelings about the matter behind both a physical and metaphorical mask.

Now that we have a bit more people, does anyone feel their character may know another character or was traveling with them before being taken?


I'm open for it. Orchid often works as a guard so it wouldn't be unusual if she had been paid or otherwise convinced to escort one of the others. Owning to her upbringing, she may also simply be following someone because she's interested in them.

While not enemies per say, Orchid likely has a certain disdain for the soldiers who had slaughtered her tribe. She knows that her people had rightfully earned their ire, but at the same time she feels that none of them truly cared about the ramifications of orphaning so many of her own kin and putting her into that sort of situation. She has ever since held a very personal grudge for soldier types and others who "Simply follow orders", and likely has done something in the past to earn the ire of such people, if not straight up a bounty for fighting with the guards.

Incidentally is there a mage college or anything like that? I feel like one of the first places Orchid would wish to go to is a reknown school, academy, temple, etc for magic and maybe take some time learning or studying there. While her practical knowledge of the arcane is questionable at best, she has a functional grasp and is certain that she can learn more magic with proper teachers rather than her own quasi-brute force method. She also wants to learn more about the history of her own people, her orcish tribe, slim as that will likely be, as she feels like she wants to try and reconnect and maybe even restore them to their former glory one day.

General Answers:
  • Angus likes and dislikes many things. Two of his favorite things are eating haggis and playing the bagpipes. Two of his least favorite things are Clan MacManus and Dragons.
  • Angus has spent most of his life in Dachaigh and has been adventuring for the past 3 years. So there is a chance he might know someone here. If anyone's interested in having a history with Angus, feel free to reach out.
  • Clan MacAlister is basically Angus' extended family, so that would probably mean they're allies. And since Clan MacManus doesn't really get along very well with Clan MacAlister, I'm pretty sure that would mean they're on bad terms with Angus. As for allies and enemies made after he started adventuring, Angus will have made quite a few of those over the years he's spent on the road. The most notable friend he made would be Keiji Shujinko, a samurai fighter with whom Angus got into a fight with over who would cross a bridge first, before becoming friends when they fought off a group of bounty hunters after their heads. As for the most notable foe he's made while adventuring, that would be Talogan Malgrogar, hobgoblin pirate captain, conquest paladin of Maglubiyet, incredibly ruthless, and as polite as he is fanatical.
  • I have no questions at the moment. If that changes, you'll be the first to know.


As for the specific questions. I did indeed make Angus a variant human. While looking through the skill proficiencies list on DiceCloud, I found initiative at the bottom of the list, picked that, and used my intelligence bonus to gain expertise in it. On the age front, Angus is 23 years old and will be a year older in 153 days. He intends to follow the clan's custom of returning home at 30, provided he survives his fight with Faerguaine when he goes to challenge the beast during his 29th year.

Mechanics:
The 1st level spells and up, I very much would like to keep to what is in the source. But just like how the rogue arcane trickster that can use enchantment and illusion, and sometimes choose from anything from the wizard spell list, I will allow you the choose two schools of magic that you feel best fit and then still have the occasional spell from any school at those specified levels. So just let me what two schools of magic you choose. For the question about the cantrip, don't worry about it as I feel the spell's reach should be based on the weapon's reach, so you're good to use them if you choose to.

Character:
Now for questions about Orchid. Can you please tell me who are the Luna Seas that is mentioned in her backstory? Is there a particular reason why her appearance is like how it is, or are you leaving that for me to decide if there is a significant to it or not (PM me if you want to talk else where about it)? And as I have already asked about previous characters here, what is Orchid's goal(s) and why she ventures out? At the end of the backstory, it is mentioned that she became a strong in her own right through, physical and mentally, and seeks the thirst for knowledge. But are there any specifics, interests in anything in particular topics, or anything in general. I did notice that she has a background as a anthropologist, so is she interested in societies and cultures and their development?

@Dark Light I can sort of see her meeting him at the bar where she met the creepy noble.

Since he's College of Satire, he probably helped her with the satirization of the noble, since Najila's specialties are Dancing, Singing, and Storytelling. After that, it'd be up to you if they performed at a few more bars after that or went on their own ways.

Aces. Conjuration and Transmutation I feel are Orchid's two more preferred schools of magic, hence the spell selection. She's very interested in trying to use Conjuration to contact other worlds and transmutation is just something that interested her as a child. Also great that I can use Booming Blade at range, I always felt the range ought to be weapon based and not default to 5ft.

As for Orchid, lemme break it down to some funky lo-fi hiphop.

Can you please tell me who are the Luna Seas that is mentioned in her backstory?

The Luna Seas is a cult that worships knowledge and eldritch lore. Despite all of that, they're not an "evil" cult in so much as they're an organization independent from things like academies and such that seek out knowledge from typically profane or dangerous sources, such as demons, orcs, and the underdark. Their name came from the fact that originally, they were a Warlock Cult of a Great Old One who indeed did bless them with great knowledge, and due to actions in the past did have some problems that could be considered evil, but have since than tried to stay on the straight and narrow. Their origins and acceptance of dark knowledge is why they were willing to raise Orchid, as they had no qualms about educating a typically "savage" race and try to raise her to be more open to things despite common appearances.

Is there a particular reason why her appearance is like how it is, or are you leaving that for me to decide if there is a significant to it or not (PM me if you want to talk else where about it)?


Orchid was simply born albino. It has no major significance in terms of magic or prophesy, but naturally her own family didn't think highly of her which resulted in her being a rambunctious child when she was in the orphanage, though again she was raised kindly there despite her appearances. Orchid herself tends to simply not bring up her strange appearance whenever confronted, and to that end her alabaster mask helps hide her face and make people just think she's a particularly tall and muscular human.

And as I have already asked about previous characters here, what is Orchid's goal(s) and why she ventures out? At the end of the backstory, it is mentioned that she became a strong in her own right through, physical and mentally, and seeks the thirst for knowledge. Ultimately, Orchid's goals are two-fold: she wants to discover something great, but she also wants to create her own civilization. More specifically she wants to go on adventures to do things like explore a new land, find a lost civilization and it's treasure, or otherwise simply go somewhere new that will amaze her. A much longer term goal however is trying to reconnect to her tribe, who as far as she knows, was wiped out entirely when the humans attacked. Her education had brought up an uncomfortable fact to Orchid: there are many other nations, cultures, and tribes far more complex and interesting than her own native orcish.

What little she knows about them is largely concerned with the fact they were obstacles in the way of various expansions, but they say nothing about what orcish civilization was like. What they did for fun, what their music was, cuisine, art, or anything sophisticated like that. All she knows is that they were once a threat, and they still are, but she wants to show the world that there is more to them than just monsters hiding in caves or forests. In a way, Orchid wants to be the hero who not only discovers new things and such, but also will elevate her people to a new status. She wants to be one starling example who takes her people out from the stone age and makes them into their own global super power. Of course these are merely dreams, but dreams that she intends to see through for as long as she lives.

I an quite open to re flavoring of existing spells and the creation of new spells. But please just let me know ahead of time so we can discuss the change or creation of the spell so it can determine if it can be allowed or not.


Actually there is one spell I was wondering if I could create. A spell of Orchid's original design called "Alter Armament". It's a transmutation spell that can swap the properties of a weapon, or if a weapon lacks a property, add one to it. Here are the details:

To about clarify about the INT mod bonus to a skill of your choice. Based on the INT mod, you can add the proficiency bonus to that new skill, or add it again to a skill you are already proficient in. You can do this an x number of times based on the INT mod. Since your characters are currently level 2, your proficiency bonus is +2. Adding this bonus to an already proficient skill is called giving it "expertise" and can only be done once.

So if you INT mod is 2, than you can choose two skills to become proficient, or if the character is already proficient in a skill, they can expertise in it.

Does that help clarify how this works for the INT mod skills/language bonus?

Ah, that should be Alter Armament. Cursed copy/paste. In any cast, the trinket was the Alabaster Mask. A very fortunate roll considering Orchid’s personal flaw. The mask itself came from an underground archeological site that Orchid isn’t sure its significance of (she was young), so feel free to use that as a plot point if you feel like it. She just likes it for aesthetic reasons.

I would deff put Altered Armament at level two alongside magic weapon




While all looks the same I would even go as far to say its better than magic weapons +1.
For a start being able to finesse any weapon opens up more than a plus 1 to damage and theres the versatility aspect of making things thrown which is usually tricky, not to mention the damage bonus from carrying a heavy weapon like its light.

I just don't want to see the game get ruined with h/b. When making spells it should always be compared to an existing.

Aron loves a good story above anything, especially when told by a compelling story teller. He is also fond of spending the night under the stars, cuisine of the spicy variety and can appreciate the craftsmanship of well-made weapons and armor.
He's not overly fond of sweet food, dislikes it when someone takes advantage of others, has a slight phobia of horses and he hates dressing up/overly formal situations, preferring comfort and simplicity over anything else.

Now that we have a bit more people, does anyone feel their character may know another character or was traveling with them before being taken?

I'm open to it. He might have stopped at one of the bars our resident entertainers were performing at some time during his travels, or he could have bumped into either Angus or Orchid on the road and they decided to travel together for a day or two since their heading in the same direction? Let me know if any of ya'll are interested :D

I think he'll have a couple of allies in the form of merchants/smiths scattered across various towns who are friends with Ilsur and who he occasionally helped out by doing guard-work or something similar. He also spent a brief time working as a guard for a small town, Riverside, so the townspeople there should be willing to help him out with smaller things.
In his travels, he managed to majorly peeve off the halfling leader of a bandit-group after bumping into them and consequently fowling their plans. Otho Brandywine has big plans of boiling him in butter(long story pertaining to their first encounter) and leaving him for the crows the next time they cross paths.

Although I am still working on the summary of the major places of the world, are there any questions that you have about the world?

For the resilient feat that Aron has, what ability score did you increase? I'm still seeing two saving throws being proficient, unless it was one of them?


It is, I used it to increase his constitution.

Thanks for mentioning your concern on the matter. I was comparing spells Shillelagh and Magic Weapon, and I suppose I was thinking too much of the can trip. But if we were to make it a 1st level spell, what do you two think of the following:
[*]The weapon must have a property to allow it to change.
[*]Can only change one property at a time and requires a bonus action to alter that one changed property.
[*]Must be a non magical melee weapon.
[*]Last for a minute with concentration.
[*]No "thrown" property as I imagine this spell to change the mass and density, which causes the shape of the weapon to change.
