"The body is but a vessel for the soul...
A puppet which bends to the soul's tyranny.
And lo, the body is not eternal.
For it must feed on the flesh of others
Lest it return to the dust whence it came.
Therefore must the soul.
Deceive, despise and murderer men"

Such words written on one of the tombstones outside the Edigbug described perfectly well the daily life of those who lived inside the wooden walls that separated the living from the dead, and the not-so-dead, the struggle to survive every morning, and going to bed thinking that perhaps you may not wake up next morning, buried not next to your ancestors but along some unknown people with no one leaving flowers on your tombstone as it was extremely dangerous to go outside. The few little children that lived inside the walls had no chance to enjoy their youth, the adults always gave them some tasks to do, those bulky enough were taken out for hunting, so one day they could feed the village.

The sun was rising once again, it was the only thing the survivors had as a certainty, most people was already awake, some working on fields growing potatoes, carrots, corn or pumpkins and perhaps other things in the little space they had for such job as working outside the walls was basically asking to get killed. Those too old to go out hunting or hammering the hot iron were in charge of tasks such as producing linen from flax, which was used to make gambesons for those ventured outside as metal was really hard to find thus making the idea of forging a metallic armor almost impossible.

At some point of the morning a small group of hunters returned to the village, once the gates were opened by the vigilants Cornelia and the other five men entered with two deers.

"Ah, it seems it was a good hunt!"
One of the vigilants commented with joy before clenching his teeth while pushing the heavy wooden gates so nothing dangerous would get inside.

"Not so much, we hunted these two while returning here, we almost return with our hands empty"
The female replied while looking at the dead animals, she was worried the animals were moving to other places because of the dangers of the cursed, but moving away from Ediburg was not at option. Without thinking much more about it she walked to a well and pulled a bucket of fresh water she used to wash her tired face. Cornelia was inside the walls again, but did not feel safe at all

Alana slowly stirred from her sleep. Whatever visions she had while visiting the domains of dreams, nobody would know, but as a lithe pale hand pulled itself from under the heavy fur, she slowly brought herself to a sitting position." What time is it..." She mumbled in confusion, looking around, peering into the darkness. Through the wooden covers of the windows, she could see vague outlines of light yet it wasn't day quite yet. Her mind quickly concluded it was still the time of early dawn, so she laid back down, covering hersefl with the soft warm furs.

However she did not fall asleep a second time as Alana with a grunt pulled herself from her cot and sat, looking around, seeing the light now seep through the cracks of the door and windows more. The day was arriving as she walked ot the nearby bucket of water she had left on the table. She splashed the cold water onto her face, wiping it as clean as possible before proceeding to wipe her neck and torso with a wet cloth. It was an old habbit that persisted from her days before... this place. She liked to be as clean as possible, however frequent baths here were pretty much impossible to arrange. The hassle of heating that much water simply wasn't worth it, nor carrying it around to her home from the well. So in the end she just wiped herself clean with a clean cloth every morning and on occasion only took baths. She was still times better than many others hwo didn't even bathe... after all common belief was that bathing was actually harmful, a belief she knew was false! In any case once she was as clean as she could bring herself to, she dressed up quickly and walked over ot the windows, opening the wooden panels wide, allowing fresh air and light to enter her small cottage. It wasn't the biggest or the best looking home here, but she ahd made it comfortable for herself.

She spotted activity outside, people going to their daily lives and duties, some spotted her on the window and waved to her, so she waved back. Alana was the healer of the village, so she knew most of these people. She cared for them as much as possible, making sure they weren't going to kill themselves by mistake and reminding them to always have clean water to clear wounds no matter what. With that in mind she walked over to the big cupboard, it was covered with differnt clay jars that held different herbs and spices. She pulled one and checked it, frowning hard. It was the dried berries. She'd use them every now and then to make tasty berry tea for the youngest in the village. She might have been a bit too liberal with them however... was going to need to ration them more, and maybe replace the berry tea with some herbal ones for boosting the body's health. Finally, picking a small wicker basket she walked out of her cottage, walked around to the side of it and started inspecting the different plants she had sowed there. For example she was happy to conclude some of the herbs were ready to be picked, so she did. Then there was the most surprising one of all. The peppers... They were spicy and red despite their small size. She honestly was surprised they actually grew. Now seeing them read, she was happy, though their number was very small. Still it would make for a rare and great spice for the food here, probably lifting the mood fo the people! And the mood was an important thing!
