Sarah couldn't help but be shocked when the power went out and she let out a small squeal before clamping it down. She was scared of the dark. An odd thing for someone who controlled its very nature. In her perpetually lit cell she hadn't experienced darkness in months. It wasn't complete darkness. Just enough to keep her from panicking. Chemical lighting strips adorning the walls provided emergency illumination, enough to get about but it reduced the world to murky shadows. Her lips twisted into a relieved smile and she lifted her orange jump suited arms. Within a fraction of a moment the entire cell was clouded in inky night. It roiled and seethed like a thing alive, pressing itself against every surface, caressing Sarah's form. Sarah could almost feel the television, the cot, and the shower stall vaguely in her mind. Then she closed her eyes and reopened them, skinning them in pure black. Now she could see, only in black and white but just as bright as day.
Flexing her might she pressed against the glass along the entire length of it. It began to bow in the middle, pressing outwards into the corridor. Like a fish tank made to hold enough water to fill backyard pool it was resisting the pressure. There were cracks, weaknesses in the structure, the air vent and the drain but she didn't want to fish near blindly through such tight areas. No, she wanted out and she wanted out now. She began to add structure to her black mist, scaffolding and spears, pushing off the rear wall and into the ballistic plastic shield. Slowly, it began to crack. Spiderlike veins lancing out from the points where her spears contacted the barrier barring her from freedom. The constant battle was taking its toll on her, her head began to throb from the effort, her heart rate was rising but then those growing cracks met one another, growing in strength as the barrier weakened. Finally, at long last, the barrier gave way, shattering into large segmented chunks.
An orange jump suit was cast out of the darkened cell, hit the wall and slid down and then Darkshadow stepped out of the darkness after it. She was clad entirely in shadow, the substance she summoned clinging to her body like a second skin. Shaking out her long golden tresses she smiled and breathed and extended her hands before her. Concentrating she withdrew the black substance into half gloves, revealing white rosy flesh on her fingers and then put a small mask of shadow onto her face, just enough to cover her eyes and apply a little mystique.
Now it was time to get out of here.
