Vinehurst has a population of 25,000. It was established in 1881 when large iron deposits were found in the nearby mountains. Today, it's a quaint little town that's regarded as low crime, safe, and a good place to raise a family. People rarely lock their doors, and the last murder was over a decade ago. The small police force doesn't give much thought to all those missing hikers. They probably wandered off the trail, got lost, and fell victim to the elements. All the strange vagabonds that pass through? Well, all towns have those. And the reports of skinwalkers in the woods? Just the locals getting a little too tipsy. The truth is, there's a lot more going on below the surface of this little town that many of the residents prefer to ignore.
Outside of town, tucked away in the thick conifer forest, there's a secret. Just beyond the safe, warm glow of the town street lamps, a pack of wolves makes their home. These wolves aren't your typical National Geographic affair. The wolves that live beyond Vinehurst are shapeshifters, able to take on the form of a human to blend in perfectly with those around them. These creatures, neither man nor beast, have called the forest their home for centuries. The pack has protected the town ever since they settled there, fighting off witches, monsters, and creatures alike, all while the townspeople remain blissfully unaware.
In the last week, a vicious werewolf hunter has set up shop in town. Things will begin to heat up as the wolves fight to keep their cover from being blown. Can the pack wage all out war without drawing attention to their existence? Or will Vinehurst suddenly become a lot more interesting...

Werewolves aren't at all what legends have made them out to be. They're more like shapeshifters who can only turn into extra large wolves. The only discernible difference between a werewolf in their wolf form and a real wolf is the size, although some swear they can tell by the intelligent eyes. Unlike the monsters in the stories, these werewolves do not lose control of themselves under the full moon. They can shift at will, and can stay in their wolf form indefinitely. When they shift back into their human form, their clothing stays intact. They are very durable in either form, and heal extremely fast compared to humans. A werewolf can heal from major wounds in just a few days. They can't, however, regrow limbs or survive a bullet to the head. Werewolves can be either born or bitten. Two werewolf parents would almost guarantee a werewolf offspring, while one human parent would reduce the chances to about half. Bites are almost always successful, although the new wolf may not survive their first transformation. Wolfsbane potion can be used as an antidote for a bite if applied within the first 24 hours.
The pack has been together for centuries, although members have come and gone. When they settled in Vinehurst, they took it upon themselves to chase off a horrible witch that was terrorizing the town. Surely they wouldn't have any repercussions later... Ever since then, they have taken it upon themselves to protect the town. Some even have jobs and live their lives like they are nothing but human. Their home is still the same settlement their ancestors built in the forest. The cabins have been updated with electricity and running water.
In Town
Mel's Diner: A quaint little dining establishment. It's not intentionally 50's themed...it's just that old.
Pageturner: A little bookstore in the heart of downtown.
Common Grounds: A coffee shop that serves overpriced coffee and espresso drinks, teas, juices, and cafe items.
Sam's Pharmacy and Shop: Probably the only store in town that's open 24/7. Comparable to a CVS or Walgreens.
2nd Street Baptist Church: Where you can go to guilt and gossip every Sunday.
Edgemont Grove Cemetery: An old resting place on the edge of town. It's mostly overgrown and forgotten, except by the local teens who love to go there to get drunk, get freaky, and vandalize tombstones.
The forest
The pack settlement: A remote village hidden away from any trail or road.
Lake Tory: In between town and the pack settlement. It's a sizable lake with boat rentals and a small beach.
The Quarry: A large mining quarry left over from the days of iron mining. It's about a 100 foot fall from the rim to the bottom. Be careful!
The Old Furnace: An iron processing plant forgotten by time. Now it serves as a giant metal death trap.
The Bluffs: Cliffs along the tallest mountain overlooking town. It's a popular spot for hikers.
Cherokee Ridge Trail: A popular trail that leads to the bluffs.
