"A world that looses its power will fade away into nothingness..." she called out, cloaked in light as she stood in flowing garments. You did not recognize her, at least not by name, but her presence was ever so familiar, ever so comforting.

"The world must first die for it to be born again, that is the only way to salvation. The world will fall into darkness, and all will fall with it, that is their fate."

With a mourful look she directs it toward you, "But...I do not wish that you will follow suit. Your name...could you tell me your name?" She asks, as if her voice is extending out to you, taking in the words as she takes grasp and holds it to herself. "Hold onto that, keep it safe to you, that you will not forget it, so that your will to live will be sustained. Hold it so that you will not be lost to the darkness when it comes to take you."

And with that, the light begins to overtake her, as she fades out into the washing light. "I won't shed another tear, not even at this world's end. But I'd like to see you in the next world. And know, that this will is not rooted in darkness" As the room is entirely consumed by the light she speaks a few parting words "Now go, it's time."

And in the blink of an eye, it was too late to be stopped. From the corner of your eye, all that could be done was to watch in abject horror as the sky gave way to darkness, as caliginous tendrils raced across the heavens, swallowing up all light, as it seemed as that unnatural shadow touched anything, the structure gave way on buildings, animals and people seemed to curl up and die on the spot. Total destruction was imminent, as all you knew and held dear was swallowed up in a storm of darkness. There were no heroes coming to save you, not to save the world. This was the end, when everything was doomed to sink away into and endless decay under a darkened world.

Or so you thought. You suddenly come back to consciousness, met with a single figure, himself cloaked in darkness. As he approaches, words buzz about in your head

"I have taken a great interest in you, you may prove to be useful in these coming tribulations. I will grant you a token of my appreciation to help you better survive in this new world. See to it that you do not disappoint me."

With that the figure procures a strange little creature, a wriggling worm, curled at first into a curved shape, before unfolding as the dark figure drops it casually, the creature uncurling as its mandibles extend and its clawed limbs come out, landing in your eye, the creature quickly sets to burrowing inside, and you can only last a few short seconds before you black out once again.

But once you awake, maybe it will all make sense.

Magokoro is a story based and inspired by Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, as well as the Kingdom Hearts games. It's sort of a semi crossover between them, taking place in a setting where you are part of a collapsed multiverse of alternative timelines that have been condensed into a singular "vortex" world of layers, in an event known as Conception. You have been granted the gift of a "Magatama", a strange parasitic worm that, in exchange for burrowing into a host, provides supernatural powers, such as the use of magic, increased physical and mental skills, and most importantly, the ability to summon a divine weapon unique to that chosen being, which will allow them to vanquish demons and ghouls, a feat not otherwise possible by humans alone. However, the transition comes at a cost, as the chosen, by becoming infected with a Magatama, have become half-demon beings, the Demi-Fiends, who are subject to intense internal conflict to control their new demonic nature. They must now travel the Kalpa Layers of the new vortex world, to set about fixing the multiverse and creating a new, better, singular timeline. However, the executors of Conception, forces dedicated to using darkness to dominate a new universe created in their image, seek to hinder the chosen Demi-Fiends in their quest.

With that, the goal is simple, the small group of demi-fiends must navigate the 8 Mahakalpas to reach the center of the Vortex of Time, where the Heart of the World is located. From there, they may undo the damage done and start a new timeline.

Background
The timeline, prior to conception, existed as a stream of timelines branching off of a singular point, diverging in their own ways to create vastly different worlds. Conception seeks to unite the multiverse and start a new, condensing all of time down into a single "Vortex", with the layers of multiversal timelines becoming distinct worlds in layers leading deep into the new time vortex, called Kalpa. The ones who can navigate through the Kalpa and reach the core of time will be able to rewrite time, and create a new world at their whims. But, there is a catch, a demon, including a Demi-Fiend, cannot rewrite time, they must find a pure-hearted human, to be their "Reason", whose ideals will shape the new world. Thus, the Demi-Fiends can only act as "sponsors" to their Reason, and guide and protect them through the core of time.

The Heart of Time and the Great Will

In the most ancient of times, before the split of the universe, time was a single progression emanating out of the Heart of Worlds. A desire for power, to control the Heart, lead to manipulations of a being only known as the Master. His actions sew distrust between his 6 students, who fought to take control of the Heart themselves suspecting the others of seeking to misuse it. Their conflict grew into a destructive internal war that began to corrupt the worlds with darkness, and soon, the Greatest of the Master's students, Lucifer, turned against his master and friends, crafting a great weapon, that split the timeline into many branches, casting the others into various timelines, and creating dummy splits to prevent them from ever coming back into contact with each other. But the use of this weapon, known as the χ-blade, ended up damaging his self and ripping his heart, body, and soul into separate entities that were cast out into the timelines. And with that, the multiverse was created, though none would ever know, as the point of separation erased all memories of what had come before.

However, the Master was not satisfied to be defeated so easily, and before he was vanquished by the χ-blade, he fixed his Heart to the Heart of the Worlds, allowing him to subtly manipulate the timelines, laying the foundation for what would become known as The Great Will.

Conception
But as the universes progressed, they began to falter, and weaken, becoming dying threads. It was believed something must be done. Thus the Heart had implemented a failsafe in the event of a temporal fracture such as this, creating the event called the Conception. When activated, it would begin the process of folding the timelines back onto each other, creating a shell of time surrounding the Heart of Time, a structure known as the Time Vortex. The Time Vortex stops short of just collapsing in on itself, as it requires a set of ideals to be built off of in order to set the laws of this new timeline in order. Those ideals will be found in the new layers of Kalpa, 108 layers built off of timelines of the old split, with 13 Mahakalpa, eras of great importance, wherein will be found the 13 Inmajin, Beings of Great Darkness, and the 5 purehearted mortals known as Reasons, each with competing Ideologies who must be guided safely to the Heart of Worlds, where they will be used to determine the course of this new world. Demonic beings, including Demi-Fiends, cannot guide the new world directly, they may only influence it by chosing a Reason to sponsor and help guide.

Beings of the Time Vortex

Heartless - Heartless are the disembodied emotions and energy of a former mortal being, gone feral and attacking rampantly. The process of Conception invovled the destruction of all mortal beings by tearing their Spiritual Hearts out, creating disembodied creatures, and effectively killing most of them.

Nobodies - Strong willed mortals may preserve their bodies and souls after the world is consumed with darkness, the result are emotionless beings of varying degrees of humanity. These are the bodies and souls of those who had their "heart" removed, but managed to hold onto their sense of self. Depending on the strength of their will and identity, they may maintain their human shape and memories, but if their will was not strong enough, they will be reduced into emotionless, deformed beings.

Demi-Fiend - A Demi-Fiend is the result of a Nobody being infested with the demonic parasite called the Magatama. Demi-Fiends regain their emotions to some degree, as they are provided by the Magatama, but their memories are distorted and corrupted, haunting and maddening distortions of their old lives, as their emotions become dark and corrupted, a Demi-Fiend must battle the growing demonic energy inside them, lest they be consumed by darkness entirely.

Demon - Demons are strange creatures of darkness that come about as a result of the conception, possibly a side effect of multiversal compression. They are much more intelligent than Heartless, and have their own distinct cultures and societies. They can be reasoned with and even convinced to join your causes with some negotiation.

More about Demi-Fiends
Demi-Fiends are half-demons, that is, their essence is directly linked to the Magatama, a kind of parasitic demon that gives its host a demonic heart in exchange for occupying their body. Since the host of a Magatama is inherently a nobody (as to infect a human with a heart of their own with the emotional turmoil inflicted by a magatama would surely drive them insane), the Magatama has an uncanny ability to map the memories of a host by an infestation of their brain, mapping their memories and emotions out, but creating dark, demented copies of them that are in some way corrupt. The exchange for the awesome power that the Magatama brings, is the internal suffering brought upon by the corrupting influence of its demonic essence, augmented by the fact that the artificial "heart" provided by the magatama is not the real heart of the being, leaving them still a nobody, and plagued by a sense of not quite being who they really are, and dissociative feelings. All of this leads to the very real danger of the host being overtaken by the Magatama and being totally consumed by darkness entirely, in which their body will be destroyed. Thus, one who uses the Magatama must balance their emotions, so that they are not consumed by them.

Among the most notable benefits of using the Magatama is the ability to use magic, as well as increased strength and other physical performance. But of particular note, is that the Magatama allows those who were not able to already do so, access the mysterious weapons known as "Keyblades". While called so, they need not take on the appearance of a key, per se, but they are vital, as only they are able to vanquish the various supernatural beings that exist in the Time Vortex, such as the Heartless, Nobodies, and Demons.

Kagatsuchi
Throughout the Vortex is a strange structure called Kagatsuchi, a celestial body acting as a mix of the sun and moon as one, with phases that dictate the power and intensity of the supernatural beings.

Loosely, huh? So, do we make worlds for this or are the worlds used here based on existing worlds in involved franchises?

A little of both. I have set 'destination worlds' in mind that I'm keeping hidden, but I may also take from character timelines I like.

The main theme here is alternate timelines, that is alt history. But worlds from existing franchises rooted in or explained via alternate timelines are acceptable too (something ala Fallout or Halo, or etc). Given that it's basically literally the split of time into alternate universes, the sky's the limit essentially from where you can have your characters from.

I had the idea of an animalistic/non-human character who becomes human after leaving her world, a parallel to how Sora & Friends do it in various worlds to adapt (Monsters Inc., The Little Mermaid, Toy Story etc.)

How away from real world can we get? Is magic in the world allowed, or super advanced tech, or supernatural forces? Like... Would the worlds of the books of Nicholas Flamel/The Alchemist, or RWBY, or Mekakucity Actors, or Gundam, or any similar levels of extreme advanced tech., magic, or otherwise be allowed as an origin world, or are they not allowed because they're supposed to be timelines of the same world?
