(My ideal party size is 3-4 people. My goal is to create a thematic narrative with you, of what it means to find hope in chaos and destruction. This game will allow for adult themes. Simple die-roll elements will also be used to keep the narrative fresh. If you're interested in building a grimdark story about survival and the human spirit, read on!)

Doom, Eternal: A Story of Survival

The age of man has come to an end, their works destroyed, empires fallen and people scattered. The Earth itself has cracked, spewing forth the fiery demons of the abyss to haunt the world and torture its last inhabitants. Amidst all the evil that Hell can conjure and all the wickedness that mankind has produced, there is only you.

You, who remembers a time before the war. You, spared by luck, grace or deeds. You, the last vestige of a dying world. Carried upon your shoulders is the last hope of humanity, the final ember of our species' great spirit. Beaten but never broken, adrift but never lost, wounded but never tamed.

This story will follow a group of humanity's last living members as they struggle to survive in a desolate world. Together they will try to find meaning in each other and in their suffering, and eventually become the champions and saviors that humanity needs to survive. Tried through the rage of Hell and tempered through the fires of war, you will rise from the ashes, taking your place as humanity's last, best hope for survival.

Setting

This roleplay will borrow from Doom's monsters and setting for convenience - that's the world, demons, and other elements - but will focus on the existing figures within the story very little. In the beginning, the efforts of Samuel Hayden and the ARC resistance are insufficient, failing you immediately. In the latter days of the war for human survival, they are left only as mythical fantasies. Overall, I'd prefer to avoid mentioning them entirely. Amidst the ashes of your fallen world, there is only you.

The society you inhabit was itself once quite advanced, taking advantage of hell's energies to produce wonder-weapons and technologies once thought impossible. Amidst its ruins, even the scraps can sometimes defy explanation, but this roleplay will focus on transforming this setting and its oddities from science fiction to science-fantasy.

Mechanics

Rather than playing as a character with you, I as the GM will periodically change the environment and your goals and challenges in order to guide the game. These narrative-focused posts will accompany heavy OOC interaction here in this thread as we discuss the goings-on of the story, and the outcome of challenges will be determined by a simple set of character stats and dice rolls, then elaborated on through the story by you.

When creating your character, you'll be given a set of numbers, which you can then assign to a simple set of stats (empathy, combat prowess, agility, intelligence, etc) as you please. As the game progresses, you'll be asked to roll a d6 to use a given stat against a problem - if the roll passes the score needed, you'll succeed. If not, you'll fail.

If needed I can provide expected minimums of response, but I'd much rather allow you room to explore the character you want to write, rather than forcing you strictly onto rails.

Plot

This story follows the player characters from their first days of the apocalypse, through their survival of the end of days and into their redemption and ascension as the chosen of humanity. Like above, this will be accomplished by focusing on the mythos and mysticism of the end-times - your character's story will be as much or more about spiritual enlightenment and inner strength as it is about physical prowess. (Do note: that enlightenment need not conform to a single culture's standards or ideas - whether your character's enlightenment is rooted in Buddhist, Christian, Indian or entirely original ideas, the journey and power of the idea is the focus, not the semantics).

If you find this prospect intimidating, don't. All you need to know how to do to play is a firm understanding of a character arc - I'll be there to guide you the rest of the way.

Interested?

I'm not going to take character applications in this thread. However, I will provide a template of what I'd like to see in the hopes of inspiring you.

Name:

Age to Start: (Please no characters under the age of 15 or over the age of 65)

Gender/Pronoun (if that's your thing):

Height and Weight, Ethnicity, Appearance:

What Was Your Great Flaw Before the End: (did you drink, abuse your family, or destroy the environment? Were you a womanizer or a whore? Nothing is off the table, though I would ask you to keep your decency as a writer if you decide to explore a darker theme. The harder the fall, the greater the path to redemption!)

What Family and/or Friends Did You Have, Before the Apocalypse: (if you'd like, you can request one of these characters to survive - they will appear in the story initially at my discretion, before being placed into your charge)

Where Were You When the Invasion Began: (try to stay away from geography and stick to a location that will allow me to place you with the other players initially)

How Have You Dealt With Living in the Week Since:

What Was Your Most Shameful Moment - Something That Will Haunt You To Your Grave:

What Brings You Hope/What Has Kept You Going:

Assign Yourself up to one 3, two 2s, and a 1 in any of the following categories, as it makes sense in the context of your character: Intelligence | Agility | Dexterity | Empathy | Physical Prowess | Custom (if your character has a special skill from a job or lifestyle, for example being a marksman in the army or a doctor, you may assign a number to that skill)

Other Backstory - Where Did You Work, How Did You Get There, etc:
