Royal Rumble in the Arena’d Jungle

Featuring Damian “Blades” Gerard, Roseletta “Black Rose” Griffonbane, Nolan “Ashen Ghost” Waltz, and Penny “The Phoenix” Hoft

Damian had only enough time to utter a quick curse as he swapped from his twin Hermes Blades to the singular Ares Blade, rotating to block the heavy downward swing. He had made the attack with the Field of Blades as a calculated risk, anticipating she’d have to exit the shadowy dome floor to avoid it. But he’d forgotten she could use Shadow Body and now, well, all he could do was brace. The scythe blade connected with his Ares blade and, for a moment, he resisted, pushing against the force of the blow before his lack of contact with the ground played out against him and he was sent sprawling.

Flying through the air, Damian had about half a second to process what just happened before he impacted Nolan, having passed through the flames at high speed and sending the two careening into the ground. ”Alright, well, that hurts.”

Even in the face of consuming fire Nolan did not flinch. He was just watching Penny, waiting to see what she would do rather than rush in recklessly like a fool. Her attacks were chaotic and stupidly wasteful of her own magic all for the sake of being showy.

Balls of ash collided against the wild spray of flame all the while Penny rushed him down, trailed by her flame conjured rats with wings that spun around him as a means of distraction, which briefly worked just long enough for Penny to come in with her burning vortex of death and spun around her like a fly. ”Are you done?” He said about how condescending that would sound. Ashes swirled around his fist in a violent spherical vortex and was about to strike the ground, but just before he could, Damian careened through the vortex of fire and smacked the two out of the flames.

”The only thing that hurts is my pride.” He grumbled as he stood back up and pointed his blade at the older mage.

Rose smirked, twirling her scythe between her hands trying her best to hold back a laugh as she enjoyed the fact of sending Damian flying. Even if she didn't win this battle of wits with her senior mage. She still called taking him on and getting a few good hits in a win in her book. She tapped the end of the scythe handle against the ground while resting her right hand on her hip looking towards penny "Hey Penny! How about we let the boys be while we have our fun." She asked with a smirk. She was determined to take on each of the others as all could probably take her out but she was determined to put on a show and make her magic known.

Mildly annoyed, Penny sighed softly, stepping back, letting her flames die down, before she looked towards Rose. She gave the other woman a smile, and nodded, turning towards her and waiting, bouncing slightly on the balls of her feet. “You got it”

Damian chuckled as he picked himself up, brushing the dust off his armor from the landing and dismissing the Ares Blade. ”Suppose wounded pride is only fair. If it’s any consolation,” the former soldier drew Andor, the silver of the metal clashing only ever so slightly with the fang core of the blade, ”I wasn’t trying to interrupt yours and Penny’s bout.” His magic swirled around the blade briefly before changing from black to an almost royal purple. While Damian wasn’t too keen on swapping dance partners so soon in the match, he felt it was only fair that he introduced the God-Slayer to a reforged blade.

”In any case, it would seem that the girls want to talk, so I hope you don’t mind crossing blades for a bit.” By this point, the royal purple was joined by crimson. ”So with that, en garde!” Ethereal dragon wings appear on his back and the Blade of Phoenix Wing lanced forward at high speed, the katana poised to deliver a quick slice across Nolan’s gut.

Damian’s blade would clash against Nolan’s own with a one handed grip, sort of. To reinforce what would be a block there was a white arm protruding from the Slayer’s back gripping onto his sword too. Well, Damian wasn’t the only one that could make some ethereal limbs out of nowhere. ”You know, I wasn’t that interested in fighting Hot Wings anyway. If it’s you though then I can let loose a bit.” The Ashen Ghost smirked at his own remark.

The magical pressure Nolan had exuded shot up while ashes gathered around his free hand. ”I’m gonna give you a real welcome back so don’t die on me yet. Ashen God’s Wayward Wind!” At point blank he swung his free hand at the Blade of Phoenix Wing and from it came a cyclone of ash with the purpose of lifting Damian up and smashing him into the ground.

Rose smiled as she lifted her scythe up allowing the black shadow magic to change shape into mist before moving to both of her hands and feet, forming black bandage,s as she took a defensive stance deciding to go hand to hand with penny “I’ll let you go first.”She said sweetly taking a deep breath. She had managed so far but she barely handled Damian, she needed to focus on maintaining Penny for the time being as her main issue was the god slayer and his damn ash magic.

Shifting, Penny waited a beat or two before giving a shrug- if Rose wanted to go on the defensive, so be it. “Fire tornado” The simple attack seemed like a good place to start, as the flames began to whip into a frenzy, shooting towards Rose.

The spell certainly caught Damian off guard, but as it lifted him up, he used the Dragon Beats to soar up higher out of it and laughed. ”No holds barred then? This oughta be fun!” Spinning Andor in his hand, Damian rushed towards Nolan again as four ethereal blades, two on the left and two on the right, before they rushed ahead of him, attacking in a series of “ricocheted” strikes as Damian attacked in well practiced form with the katana, the purple glow still permeating the blade. After a quick exchange, Damian would land on the ground before dancing back and unleashing a pinwheel of his blades. ”Pinwheel Strike!” The spell flew right at Nolan, spinning like a saw blade.

The Slayer pushed forward in the face of a wind wheel of blades and kept his body low. The wheel of blades would fly over Nolan’s head while he closed the distance between Damian and himself. Black ash seeped from his mouth and they formed into two strangely scraggly, featureless humanoids that had a malicious air to them save for two glowing red dots that could be likened to eyes. If Damian had a discerning eye, he would have been able to guess that they were spirits clad in ash though far more violent compared to the benevolent beings that helped Nolan.

”Ashen God’s Assassins.” Those malevolent constructs split from Nolan’s side and honed in on Damian from both his left and right in a pincer strike at the same time as Nolan charged him from the front. Their arms morphed and twisted into spears with the aim to drive them through the knight while Nolan closed the gap and as his body rose from its crouched stance would perform a rising slash.

Rose kept a close eye on Penny as she kept her balled fists up, bouncing on the balls of her feet. She watched the flames whip into a frenzy, moving barely out of the way of each strike. She just needed to focus, conserve and take her time getting to Penny and maybe bring her back down to her level. It would be a lie if Rose wasn’t too intoned with her magic since until recently, she preferred not to use it if possible. Why she didn’t like using it until now will probably remain a secret in her heart. However the refusal of using it and sharpening it for years has taken a toll for her days before joining the guild. She just needed to keep in touch and get through this, and hopefully not be first out in this battle royal.

Penny kept up the fire, shifting her focus slightly, and slowly drawing closer with each turn of the turnado, the flames moving into a frenzy. Her aim was not to cause injury- she trusted in Rose’s abilities, no, Penny’s goal was to get closer and take Rose by surprise. When she deemed herself close enough, Penny let the fire die out in a rush of air and leaping towards Rose.

Damian didn’t have much time to respond, but then, he didn’t need it as a grin grew on his face in response to a pair of growls ripping through the air slightly behind him. ”Attacke!” In a flash of light, the two dire wolves, Carmilla and Jaëger, leapt out and struck at the two ash-clad spirits, aiming for their red-eyed head to avoid the sharp spear points as the Blade of Phoenix Wing quickly throws up a Shield Blade on his left arm, blocking Nolan’s uppercut, but due to being a quick summon, the defensive spell shattered instantly and leaving a shallow dent on his forearm armor. Sliding back from the force of the blow, a fierce smile adorned the swordsman’s face as he sheathed Andor and summoned a Hercules Blade.

Spinning it around by its haft, Damian stops with the tip aimed at Nolan. ”Forged upon the anvil of Hephaestus himself and imbued with the power of Cratus, strike now, Ragnar Blade!” Exploding from the base of the Hercules Blade, the Ragnar Blade was a black magical construct that gave Damian increased strike range, both reach wise and width wise. Focusing for a moment, just long enough to gather the wind magic inherent to the blade, he unleashed a wind-enhanced strike towards the Ash God Slayer, testing to see how he would defend before committing to a full attack.

One fancy incantation for that? Nolan did not particularly appreciate the fact that Damian was testing the waters while he was going for full on assaults. ”Ashen God’s Fell Tail.” Five large, bladed tails of ash sprouted from Nolan’s tailbone, swishing around with dark particles loosely floating about them. Rather than defending against the attack the Slayer, with his constructs bent and compressed quickly as Nolan bent his knees, he jumped in the air and was propelled far more quickly due to the strength of the tails.

He twisted in the air like a gymnast and the tails began to twist and morph into one, towering over Damien as the bladed edge quickly came down on the senior swordsman of the guild.

Rose kept her moves sharp and nearly as unpredictable as Penny’s tornado, keeping herself bouncing on the balls of her feet, keeping near the tornado, but keeping safe from the flames as she was trying to figure out what Penny was up to and what she was going to do next. Seeing the tornado die down, Rose was a bit surprised to see Penny take a jump at her, however Rose was ready to react. She back pedaled a few times to get in a good spot of Penny’s jump before she took a sharp turn sending a roundhouse kick straight at Penny as the shadows on her feet flew forward, spreading out like a net trying to encase the phoenix slayer.

Wise to such tricks, Penny let her flames encase her once more, moving back in a quick dash of flight, and for a few brief seconds, she could almost imagine she was just enjoying herself in a lazy flight, but it wasn't the case. This game of cat and mouse could go on forever, and a well of determination washed through her. She had more than a few tricks up her sleeve, but few she'd use with a crowd of innocent civilians around them. Letting her flames die, Penny dropped to the ground, catching herself in a crouch, gaze darting about, and she waited, waiting- her heart beating fast, she was ready to move at a moment's notice, but she waited, making her body relax as much as she could.

Damian grinned to himself as Nolan’s attack, towering over him as it was, came down towards him and he spun the Ragnar Blade enhanced weapon in his hand before swinging to intercept, the two blades clashing in a brilliant show of sparks and magic. ”And who said that I was done with just that?” Several black magic circles appeared behind the Ragnar blade and launched additional blades out, reinforcing Damian’s force before the enhanced Hercules blade cleaves through the Fell Tail. Wonder if he realizes that was a pun…

Pivoting after, he summons a Striker Blade to ride up towards the still airborne Nolan and swing around in a vicious overhead strike. It would seem the Ash God Slayer wanted an all out assault from the former child soldier, and so Damian would indulge him. Following the overhead strike, he would trade out the Hercules Blade for his twin Hermes Blades and launch himself from the Striker Blade right at Nolan, the Hermes Blades lancing around for a series of thrusting strikes.

Rose watched Penny back up quickly avoiding the net like shadows. Rose took this opportunity to hop backwards a few times before allowing both of her feet to rest on the ground. Her shadows twisted and turned retreating to her own before climbing up her body, reforming her signature scythe in her hand. “You alright Penny? It is alright if you wish to surrender,”She spoke, trying not to taunt as was actually a bit confused at Penny's reaction of crouching down and waiting. What exactly was she waiting on. What could she be planning? Rose tapped the end of her scythe against the ground, as if to get a better grip on it before dragging the tip behind her, walking towards the phoenix slayer.

Yes, Nolan would still be airborne after such an attack, but Damian would be forgetting one thing; Nolan was a tricky bastard to fight in the air. Streams of ash were pulsing from the soles of his feet, keeping him hovering in place. It was how he was able to regain his sense of balance after their collision. He also knew that simply trying to take that overhead swing of Damien's head-on was foolish; it would have exerted more effort on Nolan's part to stay balanced while balancing himself in the air, so he took the more efficient route. Nolan swung his sword in an outward arc, the blade of Asi pressed against the flat of Damien's and simply pushed it enough to divert the slash away from him. "I don't think you're actually getting it. You're not ahead anymore."

The ashes around his feet increased in thrusting power, causing him to leap just above Damian. "As I said. Don't die on me yet." The signature spell of every Slayer, that destructive breath, was the next thing to come out of his mouth. That destructive tornado of searing hot, shredding ash, if Damian were not fast enough to react to that attack, would consume him and blast him against the ground.

Heart beating fast, Penny flicked her gaze around at the others, even as her attention was brought back to Rose. What were they all doing? This wasn't meant to be a fight to the death, and yet a part of her was certain they were all getting carried away. "Fuck" Shifting, Penny turned her back on Rose, flames engulfing her once more as she dashed towards the searing, deadly tornado.

If that got out of control, it would harm the spectators, and while she was certain Sasha could protect herself, and little Faith, there were innocent citizens there. "Phoenix Flame: Booming Lotus" The typically delicate flower was a sheer display of harmless power, but it eagerly sought to gobble up any source of fire or heat, Penny's own will embedded within the flames.

A delicate melody filled the air, Penny seeking to put an end to what could be destruction, what could be the end of the still tentative acceptance of magic- for if even they, supposedly S class mages, would lose control, what hope would the people have that something disastrous wouldn't happen once more? "Phoenix Song: Peace." She wasn't even sure she could execute the song, still learning the various differences between the Phoenix Song, she had only successfully gained control over Sleep, but she hoped that it would help keep any fear the crowd had at bay.

Just when the fuck had she become the voice of reason?

t”Dying was never the plan here, Ashy boy.” Summoning a Striker Blade, Damian pushes off of it, flipping to make sure no part of him was caught in the Ash God Slayer’s breath attack. He landed on the ground and slid back a few feet before dismissing the twin Hermes Blades and grasping the hilt of Andor again, sliding into a Iaijutsu stance and channeling his magic into the blade, the sheath glowing with power. This was a spell that Damian hadn’t yet used with the dragon fang blade yet, but he had every reason to believe it would work.

”Alright then, I’m thinking we’ve danced around here long enough. How about we end this with a bang? Time for the big one!” This was said loud enough for everyone to hear and even as Penny tried to calm the crowd, it wouldn’t work, the extravagant show of magic sending not spikes of fear but excitement into the air. And as the mages fought and traded blows, a chant began to go up from the crowd.

”Phoenix Wing! Phoenix Wing, Phoenix Wing!”

Once, Fairy Tail had been the city’s champion guild, bringing pride to the town and its members. It would seem that now, that would be Phoenix Wing’s job and as the mayor looked on with pride, he only hoped that they could fill such large shoes.

Almost as if he was weightless, Nolan landed back on his feet with hardly a sound. At this point, he looked completely disgusted with this ridiculous show. Why in the hell did accept to partake in this event? He hated everything about this; he hated being the center of attention, he hated the fact he couldn't even enjoy this fight because it was a fucking show, and he hated that he got roped into one of Damian's schemes again because that damn shitty swordsman wanted to be the big damn town hero, which was an entirely big issue on its own, but what he hated the most was that he let himself go along with it just because he was trying to be what he thought an S-Class Mage of Phoenix Wing should be and fit in with this blinding guild. He was just done.

"Nah." Nolan sheathed his sword. "I've had enough. This is as enthralling as watching paint dry and I'm the one fighting. I can't imagine that this is any fun to watch." The Slayer turned around and just walked off from this god forsaken shit show. "Laters."

Rose kept an eye on Penny as well as the others. This was a battle royale yes? As in all for one? She had to admit she kept herself held back for the fact of ensuring not to affect the innocent citizens, after all, she had her own daughter in the crowd. She didn’t want anyone to find magic scary, that was not who she was at least not anymore. She turned her attention to Nolan and Damian kinda getting out of control “and here I thought I wasn’t going to be able to contain myself.”she whispered to herself while noticing the crowd chanting their guild. She moved to the center of the ring seeing and feeling Penny's magic affect the arena feeling herself calm down as she let her shadows expand and grow across the battleground “nocturnes garden” she spoke using one of her more non combat showy moves if only to distract. The shadows lifted up forming a garden of all sorts of black flowers before the petals twisted and turned flying around the arena within the magical dome, playing around Penny's flames.

Towards the end she called her shadows back before allowing her scythe to disappear up her arm as she rested her hands on her hips watching Nolan up and leave as she honestly wasn’t sure what she was to do. She looked toward Damian and Penny while waving at the crowd, trying her best to look like she knew what she was doing.

Relieved, Penny let herself relax, wondering if somehow, a crisis had been averted. She let out a soft breath, and feeling like they had to at least give the crowd the full show, she lifted a hand, waving it to the crowd- and amplified her own voice with the Phoenix magic within. "None of us would be here today, without the combined efforts of the guilds. Today we honor our friends, and the bonds we developed together. Today, we celebrated something many of us hadn't ever dreamed to feel again: Hope. We're here to make the world a better place- for all of Magnolia and beyond!" There. That had to be alright, didn't it? Speeches weren’t her type of thing.

Well, Damian couldn’t say he wasn’t disappointed, but then he’d know that the Ash God Slayer wasn’t one for any kind of showboating and he was personally impressed he’d put up with it for so long. Damian’s magic aura flared up around him as Penny delivered his short but impactful speech, waiting eagerly for the release that it knew was coming, almost alive. Damian wasn’t entirely convinced that some piece of the late poison dragon besides his magic wasn’t alive, but that could be investigated at a later time. ”Born upon the wings of great dragons, he started quietly, so as to avoid interrupting his Fiancè, he spoke, growing in crescendo as her speech continued, ”gifted to man in the hopes that he would rise above his place in the dirt and stand tall amongst the most noble of creatures. Gilded in the light of the Sun Dragon and guided by the light of the Moon Dragon,” as Penny finished, Damian said the last part loudly, enhanced by a spell cast by the event announcer at this particular moment, “Born upon the brow of Man, the Light of Hope, Venturia!”

The Blade of Phoenix Wing drew Andor in an arc aimed into the sky, unleashing the spell he’d charged to reveal the guild emblems of all the current registered guilds of Fiore, with Phoenix Wing the most prominent among them. With that up, Damian faced the crowds as he quickly resheathed the blade. ”One hundred years ago, the Black Wizard Zeref left the kingdom of Fiore scarred and afraid of one of its greatest gifts. And now, we’ve brought back that light. Let’s never let it be extinguished again!” The crowd was already cheering after Penny’s speech and the subsequent light show and short speech from Damian only made it louder. Almost on que, the band started up again and it became clear that the festival had started proper as the three remaining S-Class mages were led off the field of the arena as the festivities kicked into full swing.

Damian faced the two girls in the locker room area and let a large grin spread across his face. "That was great! Thank you two, I mean it."

It was a good thing that Shiro was already ticked off, because oh boy was this fight just grinding on her nerves. Well, mostly the attitude of whoever this worm thought he was that she was currently struggling to finish off. Maybe a cockroach was a more apt why to describe him? At any rate, his binding was really hampering her and she was actually starting to hurt from all the blows she was receiving. Which might've seem odd at a glance, seeing as her defenses seemed fine moments before, but it seemed like this poacher was either too stupid or too arrogant to notice. However, before Shiro could do what she planned she still did need to either immobilize him or somehow deal with this sword lodged in her, removing access to her dominant side.

And it seemed like this sword also came with another issue, one she had considered happening but really hoped it wouldn't as she found herself dragged back and away suddenly. The pull of the sword too great as she found herself soon eating a face full of mud back in the center of the ring. Actually now that he mentioned it, where had that lously Henri gone? She had almost forgotten about him, such was her annoyance and attention directed towards Hagar.

But as she looked up, she was quick to notice just where he was. Currently in the midst of landing a solid uppercut to the leader of the poachers jaw and launching him out of the ring of blades that surrounded them. Why hadn't he done that sooner? Speaking of soon, she soon found herself pushed slightly to the side by the sudden appearance of a massive shark jaw, the caster of which she presumed was Henri considering the nature of the spell and the element it consisted of, which dislodged not only the sword binding her; but also made quick work of the wall of blades. Well, at least a fair chunk of it.

"If you could've done that earlier, why didn't you you buffoon?" Pinching the bridge of her noise, she just shook her head and sighed. No matter, there were bigger fish to fry. Stepping out through the entrance so handily made, she began scanning the area to find where Hagar was. She had unfinished business with that piece of shit.

It would seem like they were all done now with little issues bar this treant sap that Meredith had mentioned earlier. Hopefully it would go well without it, well it must really. Manami didn't know what would happen if it didn't, but one could easily assume it wasn't anything good. So it just had to work. If it wasn't going to, why would Meredith even bother making it after all?

But just as those thoughts were shaken out of her head came a loud crashing sound from below them. Confused and almost in a daze, she watched as Meredith and her two assistants ran down the stairs before shortly making her way after them. It seemed like Karla was in trouble from the sounds of it; and definitely by the looks of when when Manami found the state the room she had been left in was. Even to someone as inexperienced with the magical arts that the witches practiced, Manami found herself unable to ignore the miasma like sensation the room seemed to be covered in. Just what was this though? She didn't even have the chance to ask Meredith as she was already gone.

But at this moment she heard the older lady's voice call out to her, the purple haired girl running to the gaping hole and looking down at the predictament down below. Even with little context as to the state Karla was in, Manami wasn't an idiot. There was something seriously wrong with the usually soft spoken girl, lashing out and attacking her fellow witches. Let alone her deformed state. But more importantly, Bullet, Meredith and her assistants were in dire need of help as one of them seemed unconscious and the others fighting a losing battle as a thick bush of thorns erupted from the ground.

Feeling something wet and warm dripping from her hand, she looked down almost in shock as she realised while she had been standing there she had been clenching her fist that tightly that she had drawn blood. Her other hand clutching at her shirt in a tightly clumped ball as she thought a sudden pressure around her. They needed help and fast. The best course of action would be for her to get help no?

......wait no, there was no help. Everyone else had gone to help Talos right? Shit, fuck. The only people she knew might still be here was Zhulie or noncombatants. There was no guarantee of anyone being able to help. That meant...Manami herself had to do something. Manami was a mage, a strong one capable of fighting at that. But this sudden crippling feeling, this hesitation that set in even as she watched her new so called friends getting hurt...it made her freeze entirely. She even forgot to breath as memories, images flashed before her eyes.

She had to do it. She had no choice. She needed to do this. No one else could right? What was she doing then? She had sworn not to....but if now wasn't a time to use it, then when would she ever justify it?

"Arghhhhhhh! Fuck it!" Slamming her fist on the ground and ignoring the pain, she decided to once more call upon her magic. Delving into her greatest sin and regret for a good cause one last time, at least this was how she convinced herself. Snatching the vial that hung from her neck, she hurled it at Karla and made a clenched fist towards the girl. As if on cue, a radiant gold burst from the small vial, shattering the brittle container and began to expand rather rapidly into a watery hand the size of a small dog and go to grab Karla. "Karla, please stop this! Can't see you see you're hurting your friends goddamnit!" Calling out to her, even though she felt it to be hopeless, the former dark mage began to make her stand despite the pain and anger on her face.

If the hand managed to grab hold of the girl, she would immediately begin casting Soothing Waves through the hand. She didn't care how much of a burden this would place on her, she needed to calm down or snap Karla out of whatever this state she was in. For Meredith, this was the first use of magic she had seen Manami use since joining Wolven Pyre. In fact, any of the witches had seen. Yet despite it being as beautiful and radiant as the sun, there seemed to be a hidden darkness lurking about it.

With a rustle of papers, some spilling off the tiny desk, the woman hastily trying to catch them, she let out a frustrated sound. “Five minutes, five minutes I let them in, and they’ve fucking destroyed the place! Five minutes!” She cursed, flicking the pages, hastily trying to shove them where they belonged, sighing heavily. “Just can’t get good henchmen, honestly.” The tiny woman bounced from one side of the small desk to the other, her bright pink hair swaying here and there as she did so. Nails painted in a myriad of colours, the dark, small and somewhat cluttered office a contrast to her.

“Honestly, they’d lose their heads if I wasn’t there to tell them what to do.” Shaking her head, she settled back in her desk chair. The Magnolia festival was in full swing, and right about now, she was certain that ungodly Phoenix Wing was displaying their show of power- if they really had to flaunt it, it showed how little they actually had. Flash and bang, that was all. And their allies, bah. They weren’t much better, if any! Glorified magicians, nothing more.

As the communication Lacrama glowed softly nearby, she let out another frustrated sound, running a hand through her increasingly messy locks. “For fuck sak- What do you want, Frankie? I can’t hold your hand every step of the way.” she said as a white haired man with a rather… blockish appearance came on the lacrima screen. He often had a distance look in his eyes, as if there wasn’t a thought behind those dull, grey eyes of his. Which there often wasn’t, if she was being truly honest.

“Amara, you told me ta give ya a heads up when it looked like things were coming ta a close with that there, uh, battle royal thing.” Shit, she had. She sighed heavily, “right, Frankie. Right. Thanks.” Without another word, she disconnected the call, shoving the lacrima into her bag as she hurriedly dashed out, teleportation lacrima in hand. Fucking things were worth more than a months ability to stea-earn. But in this case, it was worth the cost. The alliance had to get started on a good high, or Frankie, Jeckyel and the other leaders would think she wasn’t good at this.

The alliance had to succeed- and she had to work with the other leaders, the other “dark” guilds, so she could keep her plans in motion. Demon summoning, targeting key events, or towns…. She had so much she had to do, and if she had to rely on bumpkins to do it, so be it. One way or another… she’d get what she wanted. She always did. Reaching down to a ring secured onto her belt, she took a golden, stamped with the crest of the maiden. Almost at once, she felt better. “Open the Gate of the Maiden Virgo!” a woman taller than she appeared, wearing a maid uniform that had seen better days, the chains on her wrists heavy, damaged and there appeared to be a small hole in her uniform, blood staining it, where her heart would be.

The weary, somewhat broken spirit, looked to Amara, and gave a soft sigh. “Yes, mistress?” The spirit’s, well… spirit, had been broken long before Amara had found her, in the celestial world, with the other spirits. She’d only been able to free Virgo- well, she supposed it wasn’t really freeing when she merely stole the key, and taken it forcibly from the spirit world. Still, the spirit was worth something at least.

She could still use magic. And right then, that was all Amara needed her for. “To the surface, Virgo. And you know the rest.”

As the crowd was hyped from the spectacular battle, the ground shook heavily, the canals water crashing onto their banks, buildings swaying drastically as just outside town a massive being appeared from a great opening in the earth, sending cracks spiraling through the nearby land. The monstrous form seemed to take substance from the very earth itself, forming into a creature made of rocks, dirt, stone, and various plant life that seemed to be reeking death and despair. It turned towards the city of Magnolia with barely a thought, coerced to do so by forces unknown.

Almost simultaneous, another two formed, summoned into existence near Dragon Fang and (other guild name). All seemed bent on destruction, not caring what ever was in its way. The monstrous beings seemed to move almost in sync, despite the distance between them, as if they were connected in some way or form.

Gabriel

Gabriel sighed heavily, leaning back into the softness of the bed, and closing his eyes. And yet he couldn’t seem to relax, despite his weariness. He couldn’t help the sense of urgency he felt, as if he needed to get back out there… it had been so long, could he still fulfill his word? Every day that passed, it felt like that was getting further and further from possible.

“What you’re feeling is dread.” Leo said softly, once more having opened his own gate- Gabriel doubt he could force the spirit to stay away. He didn’t see the point. “We may be too late for one of the 12. Someone has opened a gate close by.” It seemed almost as soon as he said that that the earth began to shake, the books on the shelf crashing to the ground, and Michael’s orange cat went shooting under the bed.

Gabriel struggled to his feet, immediately getting to the window. “What the fuck is that?” as Leo joined him at the window. “That, Gabe, is a demon.” It wasn’t a Celestial Spirit, but Gabriel’s eyes roamed as if searching for one. If Leo said there was a gate open… there was a gate open. Sighing, but not necessarily annoyed, Gabriel grabbed the sword nearby, strapping it back on. He had a feeling he might need them, and the keys he double checked were still secure. His fingers lingered over them, accepting the comfort they gave him.

“Lets go.”

Sasha’s gaze went from the battle arena, from her sister and the others, to the form filling the sky. Hope burrowed into her side, and Sasha tried to shield her gaze from the scene unfolding. Almost at once there was the comforting presence of Master Jamie nearby, leaning down to hand a lacramia to Hope. Sasha encouraged her daughter to take the glass object. “It will take you home.” She said softly to her, hugging her tightly to her side, never wanting to let go, but knowing she had to. “I’ll be home. I promise.” She shifting, keeping her body in front of Hope’s- and she had to have hope that her daughter didn’t truly see the monstrosity. A demon, she was entirely sure, it wouldn’t be the first one she’d faced. And she doubted it was going to be the last. “Into the depths again, huh? Never ends.”But Sasha nevertheless started to cleave a path through the crowd,

She couldn’t fly, but she could damn well make a path through the thousands of screaming watchers. She could hear Master Jamie’s voice echoing above the noise of the crowd. “Calm, and be steady! Make your way out of the stands in a timely manner, do not run! We don’t need people trampled to death! That’s it, keep going!”

When Sasha could, when she had the room to do so, she unleashed her Ice Queen Armour, and began to run, foot prints leaving small planes of ice to hurriedly melt in a few seconds. Sasha didn’t particularly notice them, intent on reaching the enemy.

“Ice Maiden: Daggerfall” Dagger shaped shards of ice began to belt towards the demon, wanting nothing more than to turn the demon’s attention to her, rather than the crowd.

If she hadn't been following a scent, Nyssa likely would have found her way to the fight just from the streams of foot traffic. That was helpful, as a woman with too much flower smell and a man that smelt too heavily of a weird mix of smoke, pine, and cinnamon made her sneeze and snuffle. Those two very overpowering scents clogged up her nostrils too much to keep tracking the smell from Ariel's not-mate. By the time she couldn't track by scent, the crowd and commotion helped keep her moving in the right direction.

Not long after, she heard the sound of the fight over the roar of the crowd. Everything about this was far too loud, but her own curiosity drove her forward despite the instinct to stay away from the noise. She ducked into an alley - merely because it was the only space she could see that didn't mean potentially getting elbowed when shifting back into human form - and transformed back. She'd started to step out before remembering the dress and slipping it back on. Not many would likely pay her much mind, they all likely would be focused on the display of magic from these Phoenix Wing members, but she didn't want to cause Ariel (and by extension Ariel's friends) any embarrassment walking around without proper attire.

It took little time to weave her way through the crowd to find her way up to a spot in the stands to watch the show. Her eyes lit up watching the way the four moved around each other and squared off. It was almost like they performed a ritual dance. The attacks and dodges and carefully aimed hits. And - Oh, wow - she'd only heard about slayer breath through stories told by the elders. An elated smile spread more on her face, eyes gleaming with excitement, the more she watched.

The battle seemed to wind down. Nolan walked off the stage as the others were finishing up and ending the competition with a speech. The fox girl shot to her feet and wove through the crowd still watching the other three to follow after him. He seemed to be heading somewhere quieter, which was great because the din of the celebration and magical display was drowning out her ability to hear pretty much anything else. Besides, if she got lost but at least found him, then she would be with someone that knew who she was and could help her get back to where she might be able to meet up with Ariel again. "Nolan! Wait up! Can I ask you questions? You have foreign magic and I would like to learn more about it," she called out as she tried to catch up.

"I will be sure to announce myself next time," the stoic mage said quietly. Markovis knew that Jasmine startled (rather easily as Neil would put it) and it had not been his intention to catch her off-guard. He also hadn't anticipated her cleaning any of the pans he'd dirtied to make the food. He considered explaining how he was going to clean everything before heading out - proper to do it right away than let it all cake on and be more work to get off later - except she already did the work. She likely knew she didn't have to take care of his mess, and it was just a waste of time to tell her he planned to take care of it himself. Better to just settle for a proper acknowledgement of her efforts. "Thank you taking care of that."

While he didn't quite care for watching a fight, he was interested in seeing magic on display. He'd only heard about what the others could do, and while he knew what Nolan could do, he was still interested to see their magics at work. It was an entirely different thing to see magic being used than to read or hear about it. His own magics were much different in practice than in study. Besides, it would be interesting to see Darkness magic in action to compare it to his own dark magic; both were misunderstood, but he had a feeling Rose's darkness was safer, even if she was more powerful. Sword magic was something he hadn't seen before; again, it was something he had read about which meant he still had yet to see it in practice. The power of a god slayer was always great to see - yet another occasionally misunderstood magic - and there had only been one occasion he had seen Nolan use his magic in the year and a half he had been with the guild, and that wasn't even much of a display. Then legendary Phoenix Slayer -

Markovis's gaze dropped to the hands gripping his tightly as soon as he felt the touch. He froze in place, unable to force himself to pull away from the contact but at the same time unable to bring himself to interrupt her rambling. He wanted to focus back in on thinking of the magic but...it had taken a while to be comfortable enough to not freeze up when Neil gave him one armed embraces. Rajah had broken through his discomfort by sheer force; he had to adjust or he would never have been capable of existing in the guildhall while the flying feline was around. Being comfortable touching hands with Jasmine and even Trinity was still a work in progress. He thought he'd made it further than this, but obviously not.

Of course, when the water dragon slayer seemed to become aware of her actions, she looked mortified in her embarrassment. Her face went brighter red than he ever remembered seeing it. Why was she blushing so much? It was just their hands. But then, he supposed maybe she was uncomfortable with physical contact with others too. He wasn't mortified by it. It just threw him off. "No apology necessary." He'd get comfortable enough with contact, eventually.

For now, he wiped his hands on his shirt before clearing his throat. "That would be fine. It can be self-serve." He realized after he said that how it might sound. Would she take it like negatively or would she realize he didn't mean to sound like he was taking back his original offer. He moved to start packing everything onto a cart to make it easier to transport it to the festival. "We can at least walk there together, even if you become absorbed in watching the spectacle." Not that he needed the escort, but Jasmine would likely fair better with one.

With everything gathered and the dragon slayer in tow, Markovis lead the way - more that he started walking without any further indication he was going to leave and Jasmine awkwardly hesitated before following along - out of the kitchen before they walked side by side on the way to the event. Much to his standard nature, he silently listened to Jasmine go back to elaborating and rattling on about the magics the four S-Class mages had and the last times she had seen them in action. His magic keeping all of the food the right temperature was so passive, it took barely any thought to get the spells started much less maintain them; almost as natural as breathing at this point.

The crowd built up to watch the fight was definitely not his scene. He had no intention of actually taking a seat in the bleachers like the rest, but there was no way to see without doing so. He stopped at and set up the food with a sign noting it was free for anyone that would like it (and a smaller one listing ingredients in case anyone had food allergies and needed to check for that,) before simply following Jasmine to a seat simply because that was easiest. He tried to listen if Jasmine spoke, but he only partially could hear her over the cheers of the crowd and being overly conscious of how close other people actually were to him right then.

It was impressive to see the display put on by the guild's acknowledge strongest mages. Perhaps later, when there wasn't so much commotion and noise to compete with, Jasmine and he could actually hold a proper conversation regarding the powers they saw. It was an quite the sight, but it certainly wasn't something he would ever agree to. As it stood, he was mildly surprised Nolan agreed. This didn't seem like the slayer's scene any more than it was his own. It was also a pretty needless use of magic just to remind the people of Magnolia that there was a magical guild in town. Like people in Magnolia had stopped hiring out Phoenix Wing in the past year.

Still...it was pretty intriguing to watch the spells in practice. But when he saw the fight was wrapping up, Markovis figured it was about time to head back to the guild. At least that way he could leave without having to fight or follow a stream of people to go where he wanted to. "Jasmine, did you want to stay longer?" He could explain his side, of wanting to leave now before the crowd came to them, but what was the point. He could tell her he was leaving without her if she wanted to stay.

Staying or leaving - it didn't matter as a monstrous form rising from the ground near the city shook the stadium. He stood to see it better. Well that was certainly worth some effort. Despite the new threat and chaos exploding around them, his voice was as impassive as ever, "Nevermind. Are you fighting or helping people get safe?" He knew which one he was actually capable of doing.

They spoke for what felt like forever. Truly, based on the way the sun moved through the sky and the shadows shifted in the living room, it must have only been an hour or so. Not long enough to truly have Anthony missing from his expected return to the guild, nor for Ria to feel in any rush to get rid of company.

Ria shared her story, but left out - as Anthony noticed the more she spoke - anything that she might not enjoy. Large patches of the past three years were missing; nothing major...just what happened to her between the time he was in limbo up until she arrived in Fiore. That was at least a year of her life missing and she just glossed over most of it. Fine, if she wanted to only focus on the good, he wasn't going to ruin it just yet. It made things a bit easier really, that he didn't have to adjust tactics much in dealing with her. He missed the easy interactions like this. Some of the others in the guild were easy to read.

It was incredible to have him back. One weight felt like it lifted from her shoulders, but it left an entirely different hollow pit in her chest. Listening to everything he had been through, what he had done in the years since they last saw each other, hurt. It hurt to hear how he survived in spite of her; he didn't say it that way, but she felt like that was how he meant it.

"You should consider coming with me."" "What?" Ria blinked in confusion at the offer.

Anthony smiled softly, shifting forward a bit in his seat to close some of the gap between the two of them. "I get it, you are nervous about joining a guild, but you might enjoy meeting some of the people I work with now. You would adore Zhulie and Meredith, and I'm sure Priscilla would let you join even if you hesitate to use magic. Meredith or Priscilla might even help you more than I ever did in feeling comfortable using your magic again."

"I'm not nervous. I just - I can't. Anything more than a rainstorm - it's just not possible." Ria looked down at her hands, forcing her grip to loosen from the death grip she had on the tea cup. "It would be impractical for me to join a mage guild and not be able to actually do much more than a water a garden."

"Meredith doesn't cast magic. She lost her ability to before I ever joined. You could help her around the guildhall if you wanted. Please consider it. She tends the greenhouse and I'm sure she would love the assistance in keeping the plants lush." He stood, offering out his hand. "Just come meet them, and if you are certain it is not your scene, I'll bring you home."

Ria sighed. Where was the harm? Chores were done. Painting was drying. She could always head into the town proper to browse the bookstore tomorrow instead. A soft smile spread on her face as she raised her gaze to meet his. With a nod, she took his hand and stood. "Very well." She took his cup and dish and brought them into the kitchen to clean everything up before it stained.

Shortly after, they set off. Kyros waited outside the fence, patiently watching for his partner and this mystery woman to appear. His golden eyes watched Ria hesitate, but once Anthony called him to his side with a thought, the large lion approached and sat once again. That golden gaze studied the water mage as she considered him in return, before she finally reached out and cautiously stroked his fur before running her hands through his mane. Acquainted with the lion, the trio set off again.

Until the ground shook.

Ria lost the smile she had gained, looking around. The pit fell out of her stomach as she saw a monstrous demon rising up to loom over Shirotsume between them. She froze in place, eyes locked on the thing. "A-" she couldn't get more of out.

Anthony was staring at the same thing she was. A scowl firmly fixed on his face. "Yup. That certainly looks like a demon..." He pulled out a Call card from his deck - the one that connected to one he left behind the bar in the Wolven Pyre guildhall. There was certainly someone there; it was almost unheard of for the guildhall to be completely empty. "Look, I have to go help with that. You should come help, even if it is to help get people to safety. I'll see if I can get anyone else from Wolven Pyre to help too." His gaze shifted to Kyros. "Go help protect the guildhall and roar if there's a problem."

The lion simply turned and ran into the forest. Anthony, meanwhile, kept hold of the card - Come on, someone pick up - as he started running toward the town. Ria couldn't move, she wanted to but she couldn't. People she knew where in danger, and all she could do was watch in terror as it the demon started toward their homes; her heart pounded in her chest and threatened to strangle her. But she couldn't move.
