I've noticed a lot of 5e and few 3e players here, but I'm curious,
Are there any 2e players here?

I've never actually played a 2e game, but I own a few guidebooks. Those are some of the best guidebooks in D&D tbh

I got a major collection of them, I'd have to say Unearthed Arcana is my fave.
I 've played all the editions except 3rd, never could get into it.

Most of the people who like 3e like it because you can build your character to be almost anything. The downside is alllllllll the dice rolling and rule checking, which is why I think 5e has taken a shining to the new crowd.

But I'm surprised, because I was told 2e had even more dice rolling and checks to make than 5e did. I really don't know much about it though.

Lots of dice rolling, mainly for us it was just attacks, NWPs, and of course, rolling for treasure.

@Kenshi I've played everything but Basic D&D. I'm an extremely experienced player and know 3rd edition (3.5 if your nitpicky) rules by heart. I do however favor Pathfinder over 5th edition and 3rd edition D&D. As both Pathfinder and 3rd edition D&D are cross compatible.

Never played 3rd, we got the books, but none of us wanted to DM it.
Went back to playing 2nd, until our DM bought 4th.
I hated 4th, too much like super hero video game.

3rd had the craziest UA. I liked playing LN Necromancers with a sense of justice.

Looooota people dropped 4e like a hot potato. It was really simplified and played like a modern day MMO, without the fun MMO elements.

I love AD&D and got into OSR in 2020. I think 4e was pretty ick but the monster building stuff was chef kiss for DMs. 5e is a real nice all rounder, but it's my pipe dream for my players to one day accept 5 Torches Deep into their lives to bring some of that AD&D goodness back.

@Mae I'll agree to that. 4e did make campaign creation with custom monsters nice. Unfortunate that the heroes fighting them didn't enjoy the same level of freedom with their kits.

As far as I'm aware, no. I've only played 3.5e and 5e, personally speaking.

I'm supposed to play 5th this Saturday on Tabletop Simulator, which I know nothing about (The simulator)
Anyone ever use that ? Is it worth it?

Tabletop Simulator is pretty good. I've never tried playing DnD on it but I have played other tabletop games with it and it really depends on how the program is set up. I would have to assume with DnD's popularity there are probably a lot of HQ games you can download.

20$ sounds steep for what is essentially a sandbox table top simulator, but with all the stuff the community is making, you'll get your money's worth if you play table top often. I'd watch some youtube videos of it if you're still unsure.
