What was suggested as to how you join the group:

Saris makes his way by ship (one of the not entirely ruined ones in Irkul's harbor) to Southshor, hears about what is going on at a tavern. the adventurer chosen is weary of leaving home, leaving his family, and the farm, etc and Saris offers to take egg on the young fighter/farmer's behalf. He displays some wizard trickery to assure the kid that he's capable of the task and the kid agrees.
