Scarlet held the shirt up so he could get to the wound and said “holy crap…the boss is a girl. It’s going to blow the guys minds…”

Iris moved to kit and pulled out a box and said “I have some fake skin we can put on it to help with the healing. How bad is the wound?”

Matias let out a frustrated huff at Scarlet's words. This time, his annoyance wouldn't be contained so easily.

"Would you knock it off with the gender thing?" he growled, still dabbing around the wound. "Nobody cares. Maybe try actually helping instead of saying stupid shit all the time."

That last part slipped out without him really meaning to, but it was too late to take it back now. There were more important things to worry about, and he was grumbling anyway, to add insult to injury. But now was the time to focus on the actual injury in front of him.

"It's not pretty," Matias replied to Iris's inquiry. "Whatever hit them hit them hard, I'll say that much. You can put the skin now if you want."

Iris moved to place the skin as Scarlet moved back and walked away. Iris muttered “she doesn’t do well with blood and wounds Matias. She was trying to distract herself from it. Stop being a dick”

She placed the skin on the wound and it started to glow as it started the repair work. Iris then smacked Matias in the arm. “Knock it off. Your freaking out. The wound is bad but it’s okay. We have it handled.”

If eye rolls could make sound, Matias would have filled a ten-mile radius with pure noise. The half-hearted "Hah!" he yelled, however, filled that purpose about as well.

"Ay, por favor. If someone can't handle blood, they shouldn't be in the front lines, plain and simple. Maybe get over it? We're gonna be seeing this a lot."

He shut up to watch the skin quite literally do its magic. In a way, it was almost easier done than said. He was pulled from this wondrous display, however, by a sharp pain in his bicep.

"OW, ¡MIERCOLES!" he hissed. "What'd you do that for?! Ah?"

He took a moment to listen, which eased his nerves somewhat.

"Yeah... At least there's that. Thought we'd have to be here for a few hours, at least. Not sure what to say about the other guys, though."

Iris glared and said “scarlet was in the slave camps before the boss brought her out. She doesn’t do well with blood because it causes flash backs. So shut up. It will take hours for this to fix the damage. Dante will be fine when he wakes up. Bane I need more time with…”

She rubbed her face and said “go check on Scarlet. Make sure your chewing her out didn’t trigger her PTSD…”

Scarlet was sitting on the railing outside, looking out at the city. She had tears in her eyes.

Matias glared back, albeit silently. All the energy he would have had to argue back was dormant at this point. His blood dropped a few degrees when the slave camps were mentioned, but he remained as firm as he could. His eyes narrowed and looked towards the warehouse exit. Arms folded, his body rose and lowered as he let out an exasperated sigh.

"Fine."

He turned and left. His face glowed dully in the moonlight. From where he stood, he saw Scarlet in her current state. Under his breath, he muttered, "Oh, please". He could have sworn that he saw a few soap opera scenes that looked exactly like this.

"Scarlet."

His voice was low, almost cold.

"Look, I'm sorry, okay? Get back inside. We have to tend to the others."

Scarlet nodded and said “just needed the cold air…I’m okay really…” she wiped her eyes and added “seeing her that bad…it just reminded me of past…problems. I panic and my mind goes different ways…” she wouldn’t look at him.

Iris was checking the skin and paused. A mark was over the heart and she frowned. “Boss what have you been thru…”

"I see," Matias replied. He decided to play ignorant.

He took a few steps forward to narrow the space between them. A gust happened to fall at that precise moment, making his hair flow softly and intensify the soap opera feeling.

"I get needing a distraction," he sighed, "I'm going to need a couple when I go home tonight, personally. Today was rough..."

Closer and closer he got until he was by the railing too. The city lights were attractive enough to peer down upon.

"They'll be fine. They just gotta rest."

Scarlet nodded and said “Iris is the best there is…she is a doctor. Has a degree…just doesn’t like to use the title…” she wiped her eyes and said “sorry about before…it just shocked me the boss is a girl and we didn’t notice. I mean…at all. She’s good at hiding anything that could give it away…”

She sighed and her breath was shaky. “I don’t mind blood…I treat wounds it was seeing it like that…it hit hard…”

Iris was treating the boss’s other wounds and muttered “if this were anyone else…they wouldn’t have made it back…who are you? It would be wrong to pull the mask off would It…” she moved back and then went to check on Dante and Bane and they were both stable.

Matias could feel his teeth clench behind his lips. It was almost a good thing, considering he didn't want to make the situation worse than he already made it. Still, he let out yet another sharp exhale as his eyes met Scarlet with no help from his head.

"It's fine," he said, "assuming you care for the boss a lot."

His eyes were drawn to the city lights again.

"But listen. We have to keep quiet about this. I don't think the boss is exactly going to like it if someone goes around telling people who they 'really' are."

Hand quotes on "really". His sour feelings remained.

"Though I'm not exactly sure how this is dangerous to us specifically..."

Scarlet nodded and said “not a word…totally get that. I wouldn’t say anything…” she glanced at him then with his last statement said “my guess it’s because of who she is without the mask. She must be something important to hide this. Maybe she’s a higher up who is sick of the system. Or someone powerful that can risk being seen in the group or it puts us at risk…could be a number of things to be hones”

She sighed and added “and I do care about the boss…she saved me…got my life back for me…I’ve never seen them hurt like this…”

The door opened and Iris stepped out. “Boss is recovering slowly. The guys are as well. The boss will need time. And I found strange markings on the boss when I was treating the others wounds. You guys know anyone who knows old languages?”

Matias "hmm"ed and nodded along. While he personally wasn't interested in finding out why exactly the boss hid themselves, the reasons brought up just now were feasible. Still, it was just that– speculation, and nothing more.

Matias was about to ask what Scarlet meant by her statement, but his train of thought was interrupted by Iris exiting the warehouse. Matias was at least slightly relieved that his teammates would be alright, according to Iris at least.

"How old are we talking?" He asked, turning around fully to face Iris "Either way, probably not. Only know two."

Iris walked over and showed him an image of one of the markings. “She has them all over. These were on her shoulder over the wound.” They looked like tribal tattoos of old world, but with mystic traits as well.

Scarlet looked over and said “Bane might know. He knows old stuff like this from his historical perspective. He is Viking linked” Iris nodded and said “well we should hit the the bunks. I don’t think anyone should be alone tonight till we are sure about the purists location”

Matias leaned in, squinted, tilted his head... He blinked a few times before shifting his vision onto Iris.

"Yeah, I have no idea what this even says."

His posture straightened, and he folded his arms. He raised an eyebrow upon Iris making her suggestion.

"Are you implying that I have to sleep here? Fine, I guess."

Iris held up a hand and said “you don’t have too. I’m just saying it might be smart till at least the guys are awake and we can be more mobile. We can’t take anymore hits right now”

Scarlet nodded and jumped down from the railing. “There is a sleeping area upstairs. I set it up in case anyone needed a place to crash. It has enough beds for everyone”

Matias blinked twice.

"Do the puritans know we have a base here or something? That's..."

He let out a harsh chuckle.

"... That's not right. They can't know we're here. Unless I'm misunderstanding."

Matias took another look down at the cityscape. He could see tiny silhouettes crawling in the concrete and neon maze.

"Do you think Bane's gonna get better by tomorrow? I still need to go to the capital... Not sure who else to go with."

Iris shook her head and said “they don’t know about the base but they might know about where people live. And Dante was going with you remember? He will be fine once he wakes and feeds” she turned to go back inside and Scarlet sighed.

“Come on, if you want to go home I’ll walk you. Better safe the. Sorry right?” They walked inside and Iris was checking Bane again. The boss was laying in the dark, their shadows moving around them. Scarlet paused and said “is she going to be okay?”

Matias's hand swatted at the air, as if trying to catch a moth.

"Well, whatever, whoever the hell it is. I'm gonna need someone to go with me."

He started following Iris inside, the bird's eye view no longer of interest to him. That was when Scarlet spoke. He paused, remaining statue-like for what felt like an entire minute. Only his head peered back after that time.

"I mean... If you want. I was gonna leave in a few minutes."

He resumed his entrance in the warehouse. Shadows filled his entire vision, even with as dark as it was. From the gaps he caught sight of the boss, laying perfectly still.

"They'll be fine... I hope, anyway."

He approached Iris from the side, slowly so as to not make too much noise and come across as even more of a grump.

"Iris. Scarlet said she wants to take me home. Is that alright with you, or...?"

Iris glanced towards him and nodded. “Ya, that’s fine. Just lock your place down tight when you are home alright?” She was checking the skin and frowning. “It’s healing…but I think the boss isn’t sleeping well. Her energy levels are off”

Scarlet grabbed her bag and walked over. “I’ll take him home. You set?”

"Alright... See you tomorrow."

Matias took one last glance at the boss, as if it would magically change their state somehow. He inched closer, then slowly leaned down so that his face was in close proximity to theirs.

"You better get better," he muttered, "or else."

As he straightened up, he flicked the lapel of his crummy leather jacket, the few studs that it had clinking together. The bag he received this morning sat in its own little corner, waiting for him to come over.

"I'm set," he said, scooping the bag into his arm. "Let's go."
