Content with knowing what at least on of the wands did, Marcus made his way back over to Carl as he just caught sight of another student heading off into the forest. That seemed like as good a place as any to go. Approaching the mule-ish creature once more, Marcus gave him another friendly pat.

"You wanna stay here or come along into the forest with me? Huh?" Marcus asked mostly rhetorically as he began to look at the bindings keep the mule to the cart. He didn't want to take everyone's supplies so he figured he's undo the mule from the supplies and head off with the beast of burden.

Mal calmed himself. He didn't like how silent it was, so he tried to make as little noise as possible. He even made sure his breathing was reserved ans quiet. He took out his wand and eyed the tombs. He didn't have long, but he supposed he still had some time to look before he wanted to seek shelter elsewhere on the road. He knew he wanted to stay as far away as danger as possible, (within reason of course) so the disturbed tomb was not a good target. Instead, as embarrassing as it was to admit, the tomb in front of him with the bronze doors looked to be the most promising of reward.

Slowly he strode forward and grabbed the handles of the doors, attempting to open them with one hand, his wand in the other. If this didn't work, maybe the ruined and collapsed tomb might have easy spoils.

@Dark Cloud There is a long pause, followed by hurried whispering. The crystals glimmer and glow. You can still hear the sound of the Monkeys splashing around in the cavern you left behind. As you wait, you become dimly aware that the sand here is covered in footprints. Some of them are small, while one set of webbed prints seems bigger then the others. It heads back West, the way you came.

"INDEED, MORTALSH" came the voice. "BRING FORTHSTH FOOD AND YOU SSHAN'T BE EATED!" it declared, but quietly.

@Duthguy You heave heroicly on the leg. It is far more of a physical exertion then you were expecting, and you begin to feel a bit winded. That doesn't stop you from giving it another good hoist. It doesn't budge. Perhaps it's your technique? If you moved your foot or braced yourself.. there had to be some way to -

A low growl interrupts your thoughts. You are not sure how long you had been standing atop the carcass, but from where the group of deer emerged you can now see a mangy wreck of fur and teeth. The wolf pads forwards from the bushes, snarling.

@rocketrobie2 Carl ordained to scuff the dirt. Upon the release of his burden he stood there for a long moment. Slowly, perplexed by this new development, the tiny mule turned in a circle. Then backtracked a step. Then hopped forward.

That was more then enough riveting excitement for one day. He stands still again, watching the sky languidly. Much contemplation is had.

After what feels like a short ice age and the rise and fall of the dinosaurs, Carl dissapears around the back of the cart. There is some rustling, followed by the sudden sharp twang of cracking wood, and the cart inches forward.

Carl returns and stands by your side. His muzzle is suspiciously covered in straw. He holds a wand in between his teeth. He gives you a side glance, ever patient.

Carl is marginly less perturbed.

@POOHEAD189 You head deeper into the Barrowlands, and are hit by the warm, stagnant air of this place. The breeze dies down until you are left with only your thoughts and these tombs.

As you approach the doors, you detect a strong aura of magical energy. The door before you, up close, depicts an ornately wreathed, crowned skull surrounded by small pentagrams. As you heave on the handle, you notice a phrase looping around the top of the door in ancient, flowing script. Your study of languages enables you to recognise the language of the Black Tongue. It is the language of Necromancers and the Underworld. The carefully embossed lettering proclaims, "Life in Death".

"Eep!" the kobold squeaked "Wik gets food, n-no worries!" not wanting to linger and keep the hungry voices waiting she clambered off hurriedly back the way she came and up the stairs "Wik be right back!" her voice echoed from the stairs meekly, she turned to the cart hesitating at the sight of the Ox holding a wand in it's mouth with a fellow graduate at it's side @rocketrobie2 "Ah," she cried out "Wik need help!" practically throwing herself at the man's feet poor Wik got on her hands and knees "Wik not want be eated by voices, they want food!"

"Stupid leg, why can't limbs come more easily?" Just as Daniel started to wonder if he should try to pull the leg off some other way he heard something. Looking up he spotted the wolf. Never having been in a fight before he panicked and tried to turn around and run away, still holding onto the leg. As a result he fell. Coming to the conclusion that escaping wasn't an option he reached for one of his wands. Unable to remember which was the "safe" one he already tried he grabbed a random one hoping it was the one he wanted, spoiler it wasn't. Aiming the wand he fired off a "Magic Missile.

"I'm not checking but I pray to every god out there that you didn't eat any of those wands big guy." Marcus said to the mule-ish being before another quasi-familiar face threw themselves before Marcus. This grovelling wasn't going to be good for Marcus' ego but this gave Marcus a good chance to recruit someone to his own moderately-nefarious side.

"Well I can give you a hand feeding your friends but you gotta be willing to do something for me. Scratch my back I scratch yours or so to speak." Marcus said, using his hands to emphasize his point. "Won't tell ya what I want done yet but when I do ya gotta do it. No questions asked. Comprende Wik?" Marcus said, crossing his arms.

"Fuck," Mal cursed, squinting at the scrawling script to make sure he read it correctly, and cursing again when he realized he had. He sighed, feeling like it was just his luck. Contemplating for a moment, he realized he hadn't come here for small risk small reward. Even so, he looked past the tomb to the rubble, eyeing it for a moment before realizing he would likely come in this more, likely dangerous one afterwards anyway. Leveling his wand, Mal decided to open the tomb door.

He made no sound, except for any the door might give away. Hopefully the sunlight streaming in would deter any abomination that happened to be lurking within.

"You scratch my back I scratch yours." Oh now those were the kind of words her people bristled at, mostly from experience as that was the kind of thing one would hear from a potential slaveholder and oh boy did that cause a bit of anxiety for plenty if not all kobold.

Wik audibly hissed in response her eye slats narrowed to pinpoints "Comprende, yes hooman. But no Wik not accept, sound too much like she become servant or worse slave of hooman. Understand oweing favor but no trust hooman. Trust earnt not owed." she barked at Marcus, now watching him with distrust in her eyes as she made her way to the now vacant wagon to fetch supplies, a backpack and anything that could carry stuff she tied to it where a sleeping roll would go. Grabbing a pickaxe too while she had the chance, might be good for defending herself too from whatever that voice was.

She stuffed a bunch of food into the backpack, along with whatever else she could rationally carry without breaking under the weight.

@Duthguy You hear a snap as you fall, your full weight bearing down on the limb as you hit the ground. It's gory, and while your heart was racing, you had the dim realisation that should you survive this the limb would be easier to remove.

Scrambling for your items you grab a wand. Three orbs of swirling light shoot from the tip, and as the brightness dims from your eyes you can hear the creature yelp as the magic hits your mark.

You see a pair of madened eyes staring back at you. The mangy creature leaps forth. It is no ordinary wolf...

The smell hits you first - fetid, coppery. You feel its hot breath as it rips at your arm, but only manages to snag a mouthful of cloth. It's on top of you, pinning your Torso to the ground, but it's head snaps back and forth unnaturally. You catch a glimpse of milky eyes. It's nostrils flare at being so close to the carcass.

@POOHEAD189 The magic missiles hit with a hiss. A ripple of electric blue-purple energy pulses across the door. It subsides. All is silent. The ornate skull almost seems to be grinning at you...

You reckon you could possibly pry open the wretched thing if you could get something to help with leverage.

@Cao the Exiled It isn't everyday that teleportation magic goes wrong, but when it does, it tends to be a little bit of a spectacle. Usually a gory one.

Deedra shot through the sky like a bullet. It wasn't like this was her first time in the air, but the speed was... definitely a new experience. You think there may have been a few different realities that you phased through as well, but it was hard to tell with everything moving quite so fast.

After the length of a blink or perhaps a short sneeze, your eyes start to successfully transmit what they're saying to your brain. Was that a forest you were hurtling over? And a clearing? And those three little ants - no, people - and that brown blob is now a..

You crash into the cart in an uproar of flying wands. You are, thanks to the 'benevolence' of magic academy, fortunately in one piece. Unless you died in transit and they teleported your corpse away before anyone saw, but that would be ridiculous.

@rocketrobie2 Carl makes eye contact as the last of the straw dissapears into his mouth and, presumably, belly. There is a long silence. He'll never tell.

@Dark Cloud whatever confounded sadist had provided these supplies had inconveniently left off backpacks and sacks. There were crates, of course, but they were unwieldy to carry. There was, thankfully, a bedroll, rations, various bits and bobs for cooking, a small kit for identifying gems. You grab a pickaxe, and just after jumping off the cart, turn to see a Pseudodragon-sized comet come crashing into it.

While the snap coming from the limb was a welcome sound Daniel ignored that for now. Once he was on the ground and activated his chosen wand he could immediately tell it wasn't the same one he used before due to the three orbs of light shooting form the tip. He hoped this meant the wand was three times stronger than the other one but the fact that wolf survived to not only let a yelp out but also glare at him angrily dashed those hopes.

The smell of the animal convinced him that this was an undead wolf and Daniel couldn't help but wonder if his wand was responsible or if the creature had been undead before being hit by the magic missile. When the cloth of his sleeve get caught in the wolfs mouth he shoved those thoughts aside to focus on the present. Still he didn't want to risk channeling more magic through the wand and he only had one other idea. While trying to free his arm he jammed the wand into one of the wolf's eyes.

[Marcus nodded in acceptance as Wik walked around to the other side of the cart. His attention turned to the wand in Carl's mouth. The mage brought his arm up carefully, offering to take the wand.

"You plan on eating that? Or using it? Maybe it's a gift?" Marcus spoke, partly to Carl and partly thinking aloud.

@Dark Cloud] After getting some response from Carl, Marcus followed Wik's lead (not before giving Carl a pat) and produced the wand that he had already tested out prior.

"Take this. Just in case those voices of yours get a little too hungry and try to take a bite outta ya. Take care compadre." Marcus said, offering the wand to the Kobold.

"Fire's a couple of blue lookin' bolts. Not sure how dangerous it is but it'll do a number on leaves from what I've seen."

Malcador tapped his wand a bit as if that would rev whatever engine the magic might use, but of course that was useless. He sheathed the wand for the time being, making a note to figure out its idiosyncrasies for later. For now, he needed to open the door. The grinning skull did not deter someone of his mental fortitude. Plus it pissed him off.

Mal then went looking for any stick, sword (broken, weathered, or new), or anything he could find that could be used to pry open the door, and then he would attempt to do so.
