"It is easy to overlook such a quiet, beautiful world when rooting out corruption and heresy. To the untrained eye, a world such as Arterium plays no part in the greater schemes of the galaxy. Much to their surprise, these worlds are the most at risk of incursion from the alien, the mutant, and the heretic. While the rest of the galaxy turns a blind eye, I watch through a magnifying glass. These are the worlds that decide the fates of entire sectors. There is corruption here. I can smell its wretched stench hidden among the lovely flowers. I can taste it in the sweet air. It does not want to be found, but I will find it all the same."

"Arbitrators! Atten-tion!
... Right, listen in, everyone. Some excitement just landed on our doorstep. I'm sure you're all tired of corralling the common rabble to and from the flower fields and arresting petty criminals. Seems our quiet little world is up for an audit by the Holy Inquisition, and the inquisitor, who should be planetside in a matter of weeks mind you, is requesting a local escort from Babellum's Adeptus Arbites. That's right, that means half a dozen of you get to tour an Inquisitor around and show him all the pretty sights. Arterium is peaceful enough, so I don't expect he'll come across any real issues. That said, in case something arises, I want you to report it back to me immediately so we can take care of the problem in house before things get too out of hand. I'll be passing down a list of names for the Inquisitor's escort party in a few hours.
Ahem... Arbitators! Dis-missed!"

Welcome to the interest check for Warhammer 40,000: Blood & Beauty! This has been something I've been itching to do since I tried out the Darktide beta, and I am super inspired to get this on the go! If you haven't gathered from what little exposition I've left here in the interest check, this is meant to be about a group of Adeptus Arbites being assigned to tour an Inquisitor around a quiet, beautiful, and peaceful planet's singular hive city, Babellum. Of course, this is Warhammer, and things are never peaceful. The intent for this plot is for the Inquisitor to uncover an ever-deepening rabbit hole that could completely upend the calmness and peace of Arterium. This plot is intended to be focused on the arbites and regular humans. There will be no playable space marines, or inquisitorial assassins, or sisters of battle.
Should this interest check take off, the OOC will be prepared with far more information of Arterium and Babellum. For now, please accept this small slice of world building.
Arterium was once a Fortress-Monastery to a Blood Angels successor chapter known as the Sanguine Hands. Nearly two-thousand years prior to the events of Blood & Beauty, war had broken out across the surface of Arterium as forces of Chaos bore down on the planet. The attack was very deliberate with its singular goal being to wipe out the Sanguine Hands chapter and enslave the population. Dozens of imperial guard regiments were dispatched to Arterium to hold the world and assist the Sanguine Hands. The war was brief, but very bloody, with only one imperial guard regiment surviving the conflict, and even then, it had been reduced to less than a quarter strength. The Sanguine Hands has been utterly annihilated in the defense of the hive city Babellum. Only one battle brother survived, an apothecary named Ramiel. Unfortunately, the chaos scheme to wipe out the Sanguine Hands was fulfilled, and the gene-stock of the chapter was irreversibly tainted. There would be no more brothers to come to the chapter. The Sanguine Hands were officially listed as destroyed, and their names would be memorialized within the walls of Babellum for the rest of time. Every street corner in the upper hive now features a golden statue of a fallen battle brother of the Sanguine Hands.
Arterium was left a war scarred wasteland for several hundred years following the conflict. Then, practically out of nowhere, blood red flowers began to bloom upon the sites where brothers of the Sanguine Hands had died. Scholars first thought that the plant was an invasive weed brought from another world, and work parties were sent out to exterminate the flower, much to Ramiel's protests. He was but a single Astartes, and he could not defend all of the sites at once. The plant began to spread rapidly, faster than it could be contained. It was then that its valuable traits were revealed. The flower had impressive versatility. Its extract could be made into a lubricant for machines and a compound for rejuvenat treatments. In fact, the rejuvenatory properties of the plant quickly became known in the sector, and many worlds were suddenly trying to get their hands on it. The planetary government of Arterium saw the value of the plant, and immediately halted all extermination of the flower. Over several years, the flower was left to flourish and grow across the surface of the world. It mattered not where it was. The flower would creep up structures through strong vines to reach the sunlight and grow atop the spires of Babellum if it had to. Soon, the entire color of the world changed, and the great swatches of red could be seen from orbit. Arterium began to harvest the flower and export it to the corners of the Imperium. Arterium became rich beyond measure, and since it had no direct impact of the imperial war machine, it maintained its rather low profile. The people thrived, and the planet was quickly reclassified to a paradise agri-world. Nobody questioned the origin of the Sanguinalla Flower after the economic boom, and the planet fell into a life of complacent comfort. There, in all of its comforts, beauty, and peace, nobody would think to check for the dark seed that would blossom.
