It's That time of year again. I have an insatiable itch to replay MGSV. Sadly I can't do to time constraints. But to help quench it, I've been inspired to make this:
Welcome to 2040. The wars that defined the 2030s are beginning to subside, with tentative peace being organised between South and North European powers, as well as the completion of the Central American invasion of the Southern United States has changed the economic and political landscape drastically. Previous world powers have been left in tatters. Most importantly the once grand nation of China has shattered into a complex web of warring principalities and citydoms.
With the surrounding powers of Korea, Japan, Australia, and Russia eager to claim a piece of the ruined Chinese state, a huge influx of Chinese refugees are flooding into the surrounding states. With the isolationist states of Germany and the United Kingdom off the table, they turn to the somewhat stable middle eastern regions for shelter. None more so that the state of Afghanistan. With the primary route in being through the province of Badakhshan.
Many factions have arisen in this area. But the untamed heights of the terrain prove nigh impossible to rout out opposition 100%. As refugees pour through, all kinds try to profit off of it in some way or another, with others taking up arms for idealistic reasons. Whatever the cause, they all contribute to the untameable, damgerous environment of guerilla warfare and special operating conditions.
Technology is about what you would expect 20 years into the future. And I'll be accepting just about any Sci-Fi tech that could be reasonably explained to exist within the next two decades. Be creative, nothing insanely powerful though. It should be in line with what a high-end mercenary should be capable of having. Heavy personal weaponry, light anti-materiel at most.

Our 'heroes' will be mercenaries, hired by a mysterious man known as 'Shimmokeen' to operate in the harsh Badakhshan region of Northern Afghanistan to find and kill the Australian commander Maj. Oliver Barrett. As well as perform any other duties required of him during their time in his employment. He is paying enough to ensure even the most brutal cut-throat's loyalty. An absolutely astonishing sum.
The IC will begin after the hiring and acquisitions, just before the team, referred to henceforth as 'CHARLIE CHARLIE 1', is inserted into the Area of Operations.

Zero is the Radio Net controller of the team. Name unknown. Sporting a midnight blue beret adorned with The Motto. He is the only team member with direct means of communication with Shimmokeen, and usually resides in the back of the HQ LMV.
Four-Two-Alpha is the rarely seen but oft heard Canadian Helicopter pilot. The man behind the black chinook responsible for insertion into the AO, as well as emergency extraction and target retrieval. Though CC1 will be largely self-sufficient, the few supplies dropped in will be delivered by 42A.
Maj. Olive Barrett used to be the CO of the ASAS, one of Australia's most elite spec ops forces. However he was discharged after certain immoral and illegal actions and activities he was involved in were brought to light. Some theorise he was used as the scapegoat for a larger conspiracy, though this is largely disbelieved.
After his career with the Australian Armed Forces ended he birthed the elite mercenary company known as Barrett & Cohen Defense Solutions. Or Barrett's Butchers for short. They were active during the collapse of the People's Republic of China and are accredited with multiple atrocities committed during this time. Barrett's Butchers have been reported in the Badakhshan region and it is presumed he is in hiding somewhere nearby.

The Hand of the New Taliban are the extremist guerilla element under the command of the Theocratic New Taliban. Badakhshan is not fully under the vice of the New Taliban, due to it's primarily Tajik populace being largely unsympathetic towards the Pashtun dominated New Taliban. Though a rather substantial force, the Hand actually representd a rather small influence over the Badakhshan region. They are based in the South Western edges of the region.
Pinkerton Private Defence is a highly professional and well-funded PMC force operated by the Pinkerton Security conglomerate. Their presence in the region is mysterious and their motives and reason for being their are unkown. They are somewhat difficult to recognise, but can be noticed by their all black uniforms, distinctive full-face ballistic masks, and the Pinkerton logo emblazoned on body armour. They have been linked to tje appearance of Hazmat-clad technicians with Dupont technicians. As well as possibly being linked to cases of the dissapearance of Chinese refugees, Taliban fighters, and Tajik locals. However both companies vehemently deny these claims, and their presence in the area. Sightings of them have been primarily reported in the northern parts of the region.
Barrett's Butchers are a small company of cut-throat mercenaries loyal solely to the shunned Major Barrett. They are an incredibly elite units, comprised of only the toughesg, most ruthless ex-special forces personnel. The group has been spotted in the central area of the region, subsiding by raiding villages and sacking military outposts for a minimum of two months, most likely ever since their dissapearance during the fall of Beijing.
The vast majority of the Irish Republic Army 1st Brigade is present in the capital of Badakhshan, acting as peacekeepers. Though stranfe as it may seem, the Irish Republic is a major recipient of Chinese and Tajik refugees and is attempting to exert order over the Badakhshan region to aid in refugee transport and humanitarian efforts. However with all the guerilla fighting and different ideologically fueled groups, they are fighting a losing battle. And despite their only recent mobilisation to the area, morale is already running low amongst the untried and untested troops.
A large amount of smaller, splinter groups exist within the region, fighting for various causes. These more be touched upon in more depth as the story unfolds, but some of the highlighrs include: the Tajik locals fighting for the sovereignty of their home, a mysterious contigent of armed extremist orthodox Christians known as the Neo-Teutonic Order, UN peacekeepers, as well as the remnants of the Triads and various other gangs fighting for the profits of human trafficking out of the ruined China.

(I'm no good at CSes and getting sleepy, so I'll provide a more in-depth CS as interest is shown, for now all the usual details are required. Personality, appearance, history, equipment, motive, relevant skills. The usual shebang.
