Not to ring the bell on forum posting but I've been told a lot of people have been moving to Discord for rping and wanted to know if it was true or if I was being lied to

A lot of em are, ye.

I don't know if a lot of people are quitting forum RP to do Discord RP though. It's fundamentally a different experience. But the faster pace is pretty attractive. Personally haven't actually come across a Discord RP that lasted significantly longer than your typical Guild RP. And the 2000 character Discord message limit is a pain and a blessing.

I've done a few via Discord. It's imperfect but it allows for quick posting back and forth, gathering a lot of like minded folks fairly quickly, and doesn't have any of the "must be halfway advertiser friendly" restrictions or forums.

I've done Discord RPs for Tournament fighting and for Pen and Paper Roleplaying, like Dungeons and Dragons.

I can't say as to whether or not people have been trading forum RP for discord RP, but discord RP isn't something "new" to the scene. It has always been a thing. Hell, I've done a bunch of RPs on discord in the past. It's no different than RPing on skype/*insert instant messenger app here* like people had done back then.

I've done a few on there. There are pros and cons to it as a platform that other people have mentioned here, such as the better interactivity and the message character limit. Favours shorter, snapper posting as opposed to forum RPs. Which may or may not be a good thing depending on your style of writing.

Feel like I write too much to enjoy it, the answers here have been both enlightening and horrifying thanks

That's likely correct yeah.

I did an Arena Tournament RP and had good fun with it but it still meant I had to break a lot of my posts up into like 4-6 posts

I am doing a few roleplays on Discord, for years Discord has been my go to but I feel major nostalgia for forum roleplaying.
