Thousands of years ago, the Digital World was overseen by the Royal Knights. These thirteen Holy Knight Digimon, originally sworn to serving the will of the host computer Yggdrasil, took it upon themselves to protect the weak and maintain peace. The Royal Knights divided the Digital World into thirteen districts, each overseen and protected by one of them. For as long as the Royal Knights drew breath, the Digital World was safe. But peace was never meant to last...

From the Dark Area came powerful Digimon known as the Seven Great Demon Lords. Led by Lucemon, they sought to conquer the Digital World and rule over it with an iron fist. The war between the Royal Knights' and the Demon Lords' forces raged for over a century. Both sides took massive losses, and the landscape of the Digital World was scarred from the constant battles. In the final battle between the two sides, Omnimon, Alphamon, and Gallantmon fell to Lucemon. But the Demon Lord decided to spare the three death, and infected them with a virus that twisted and corrupted the three Royal Knights, hoping to use them as servants.

It would be Lucemon's final mistake.

The corrupted Royal Knights became little more than mindless beasts with an urge to destroy. The three turned on Lucemon, and slaughtered him and the remaining Demon Lords, before beginning to rampage across the Digital World. The Digimon prayed to Yggdrasil for salvation, but no answer came. The three Fallen Knights carved paths of destruction across the Digital World before sinking into deep slumber. The Digimon built tombs around each of the Knights to seal them away, lest they lay waste to the Digital World again...

But darkness is returning. Digimon are hungry for power, and will do anything to attain it. Many take it as a sign that the Fallen Knights will rise again to destroy the Digital World. The faithful continue to pray, but unlike before, Yggdrasil has seen fit to answer their prayers. Heroes from another world will come, whether they are ready or not.

What is the Digital World?

The Digital World is a plane of existence that came into being with the advent of computers. As access to technology increased, it became larger and more complex. Time flows at an accelerated rate in the Digital World in comparison to ours. As time and technology marched on, lifeforms evolved in the Digital World, influenced by mankind's history and legend. These creatures are known as Digimon, and they take on a myriad of sizes, shapes, and concepts.

What is a Digimon?

As previously stated, a Digimon is a digital lifeform. The first Digimon were rather rudimentary in nature, bearing more in common with computer viruses and files than what we see today. At the center of every Digimon is a DigiCore, a program and data that roughly correspond to the organs of real-world animals. As long as a Digimon's DigiCore is functional, they can heal from nearly any injury if given the time and energy to recuperate. Most Digimon have an innate desire to engage in combat, though this is usually expressed in competitions and friendly battles.

Digivolution

Digimon are able to achieve new, stronger forms by taking in new data. This is usually accomplished slowly over time, but Digimon can accelerate this process by battling other Digimon. When a Digimon is defeated in battle, part of their data is absorbed by the Digimon that defeated them. Digimon with Tamers as partners are unique in that they can temporarily Digivolve to stronger forms thanks to the bond with their human.

Digimon Reproduction

Digimon reproduce only once or twice in their life, as the process of creating a new Digimon is time, energy, and data intensive. When a Digimon reproduces, they make a copy of their DigiCore and combine it with a copy of another Digimon's DigiCore. In theory, there is no limit to the number of Digimon that can be involved in the creation of a new Digimon. The more Digimon that are involved in the creation of a new Digimon, the more likely it is that the resulting offspring will be able to attain forms unrelated to one parent. All Digimon hatch from DigiEggs, and if a Digimon is defeated in combat with their DigiCore intact, they will revert to a DigiEgg in order to start over. In this event, a Digimon may lose certain memories.

What Do Digimon Know About Humans?

While humans have never been to the Digital World, Digimon have been able to get glimpses of them through information gleaned from the internet. Some Digimon regard humans as real, tangible beings, while others simply regard them as myth and folklore not unlike the way many humans view creatures like Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster. Digimon have recreated certain human inventions, including instruments.

The Digivice G

The Digivice G has a variety of functions, but its main purpose is to help channel a Tamer's emotional energy to a partner Digimon in order to help them Digivolve. Other functions of the Digivice G include:

• Displaying information on a Digimon, including level, Attribute, and attacks
• Showing direction (NSWE)
• Making phone calls to other Digivice G users

Appearance:
Yui stands at 5'3" (160.02cm) and is of a slim build. Her first concern with outfits is comfort. Weirdly enough she finds it hard to feel the cold like most people, and often wears shorts.

Personality:
Yui often comes off as cold and emotionless, but this tends to change when she talks about something she's passionate about. She doesn't have very good social skills, and she can sometimes come off as incredibly blunt at times. She listens more than she speaks, and it's difficult for her to trust people.

Background:
Yui comes from a lower class family, and while she always tried to smile and do her best as a child, her home life was the farthest thing from perfect. Her father was verbally and emotionally abusive towards Yui and her mother. When she was eight, her father disappeared, and rumors spread that he had been killed by his wife. Nothing was ever proven, though the rumors hung over the family for years afterward. As time went on Yui became a loner, and began fixating on things like video games, anime, and manga to help distract her from real life. This continued even after high school, and even though she's able to hold down a part-time job, she finds it difficult to trust and connect with her coworkers.

Appearance:
Stands at about 5’6”. Lithe build, moderate to large bust. Her hair is naturally black, but has been dyed pink for a few years now. Typically wears flashier fashions.

Personality:
Smart-mouthed, impulsive, and petty, but nonetheless laser-focused and determined when she sets her mind to something. She has an endless capacity for holding grudges, and never lets anything go once something’s set her off. However, treat Yurie well, and she’ll gladly return the favor several times over. She has something of an ego about her skills, and despises being disparaged or looked down upon to the point where she doxed another hacker and got him arrested over an internet argument once.

Background:
From a young age, Yurie was practically raised by the internet. Her parents were both busy professionals, more dedicated to advancing their careers than making sure their child was particularly well cared for outside of monetary needs. As a result, she took to being online for most of her entertainment and social interaction.

It was about the time she started middle school that Yurie inadvertently stumbled her way into becoming a hacker. An interest in programming had her speaking to an online friend of an online friend for tips. Upon seeing her skill, the mutual acquaintance, thinking the newbie he was talking to was older than she actually was, introduced her to his hacker group. Things progressed rapidly from there, with Yurie picking up the ins and outs of hacking in the modern age and becoming a full-fledged hacker by the time she entered high school. Her membership in the team didn’t last long after, however, as an argument between herself and a few others resulted in her leaving and bringing the entire group down out of spite.

She's currently enrolled in her first year of college, but barely attends classes, focusing more on hacking as hobby and freelance coding work. Despite this, she's still doing well enough to pass her classes at the bare minimum.

@Psyker Landshark Yurie looks good. The only issue I have with Marauder is his Ultimate/Perfect level form, since Megadramon is a Cyborg type. However, since that I'd a bit farther down the line, I suppose I can come up with something in the story that would allow it. I didn't add it to the "What is a Digimon?" section (though after work I will), but what form a Digimon can evolve into can partly be determined by what kind of data they take in.

Personality:
Is it so wrong to see the world as something less than perfect? Is it folly to wish to change things for the better? These are the questions that Kari asks herself almost daily. A hopeless romantic and pitiless optimist, she believes that there is no saving the stupid, but that she has to try anyway. Her parents have made comments about it not being blood that runs through her veins, but rather a strong sense of justice and a will to see it brought about. This is unfortunately tempered by her lack of social position to act on her beliefs, her poor social skills that come from being on the autism spectrum, and her general contempt for those who have power and don't use it for the uplifting of the weak.

Growing up in a middle-class household, Kari never wanted for anything. Well, except world peace. And a life without boredom. And the destruction of the dog-eat-dog system of the world. And-, well, you get the point. She learned the reality of the world when she was but 5, when her rare trading card was stolen. The teachers banned the game because of this, and the other children blamed her, going so far as to claim it wasn't stolen and that she just wanted to get the game banned! This made her depressed and anti-social for a while, but she returned to normal about a year later. Then the second tragedy struck. Her favorite video game was taken from her hands as she played it, and the older children who took it held it too high for her to reach. So she reached for their throat instead. She didn't choke them for too long, just long enough to make them lower their hands so she could grab her game back, but it didn't matter to the adults. She was the one who got in trouble, her parents making her throw away her precious game, the bullies who did it getting away untouched. Her disillusionment grew.
By her teenage years, she was known as a troublemaker and a rather dangerous enemy to make. With no care for weak or illogical rules, she would go above and beyond to make those who harmed her, or the younger children, pay for their actions. Even the older students at her school became afraid of her, leading to a large drop in bullying throughout the grades as a whole. That is, until she went too far and knocked a bullying transfer student unconscious on the day Kari turned 14. She was expelled that day. On an "entirely unrelated" note, the rate of bullying in the school skyrocketed the following week.
At age 15, Kari, who had grown strong physically from throwing herself into working out to relieve her anger at society, became obsessed with anime. Not especially surprising for a 15 year old, but the lessons she learned from Sailor Moon and the like were different than what the English dubs wanted kids to learn. She'd need to get stronger still if she wanted to defeat the villains of the world. She didn't have a team to rely on, or magical powers. She'd have to find another way.
Exactly one month after she turned 16, her favorite video game of all time was released. She loved it more than anything, and it became her newest obsession. So much so that she would have reoccurring dreams about it. Moreso, when she learned to lucid dream on command (when she realized she was in a dream, that is) at age 17, she would constantly make her dreams be about it.
Age 18, Kari had played her game well over 100 times, logging uncounted hours of playtime. She became a NEET for a few months before getting kicked out of her parent's home and ending up in a tiny apartment of her own that she can, to this day, barely pay rent for. Recently having turned 19, she's begun looking into colleges that she might be accepted into, but she has no idea of what she would study for.

He's yet to lose a battle, and grew up around strong digimon making that fact a large part of why he acts as he does. He hates being praised for anything, as praise implies both that someone is worthy of judging him and that what he did that was being praised is above and beyond what he can do.

My only disappointment is that I need to veer away from using DexDoruGreymon as my Digimon's Ultimate like I'd planned, but since I plan on incorporating a certain Digimon group in the future, I should be able to change that without a problem.. Plus, the Dorumon line has some interesting potential for Dark Digivolution.

@Psyker Landshark Actually a very good question. I like to think that Dark Digivolution occurs when a Tamer is influenced by dark emotions, resulting in a Digimon losing control. I suppose a good example would be BlackGreymon that would normally Digivolve to MetalGreymon (Virus) might Digivolve to SkullGreymon while under the influence of a Tamer's negative emotions.

Appearance:

Nearly always seen wearing black of some kind, because primary colors are bullshit. The beanie stays on at all times. Otherwise, Isaac stands in at a relatively tall 6'4, and weighs in at 210 pounds, giving him broad shoulders and a wider than average frame. His skin is clear of any scars or tattoos. He does wear a golden cross necklace on occasion, though more for vanity that faith reasons.

Personality:

Isaac suffers from a condition known only as "Resting Bitch Face" wherein he seems angry or otherwise wears a scowl on his face, even when he is perfectly content and means well. This has led him to being very quiet, and not used to speaking up, as he isn't usually given the chance. Though those who do get to know him find that he is willing to work hard for those that give him a chance.

Background:

Isaac always seemed to attract the wrong crowd. Hackers, thugs, juvenile delinquents, you know the kind. Whether it was his face, his intimidating build, his clothes, or his general lack of emotion, trouble seemed to follow. Problem was, Isaac wasn't interested in the slightest. This usually made the gangs of troublemakers upset, and often ended up with him becoming thier target for a short while.

This led him to take an interest to the internet, where he wouldn't be seen as a brick-faced thug, but just as text on a screen. This would eventually get him an interest in software development, even going so far as to go to a Community College to earn an associates degree in the field. Now fresh out of college, he's got a job lined up at a place called Ironwood Studio, as a data tester. He makes sure security systems are working, code runs without issues, servers don't leak memory or otherwise consume too many resources, and perhaps most importantly, deliver coffee.

Isaac currently wonders what he should do next in his life. Should he go back to school and get a bachelor's degree? Should he try and make a career at Ironwood? Should he wait it out and get more work experience to get a job somewhere else? Isaac isn't sure quite yet, but in the meantime, he'll continue doing his best.
