Rhemara the Reimagined

..I'm Rhemara and I'm brand new to the community! I'm an experienced role-player, and although in recent years I have mixed my text-based role-play with video game mechanics, I find myself leaning back towards the simple play-by-post methods. Depending on the scene, I can write anywhere from one paragraph to several "pages". I love giving insight into my characters' inner workings, but I also love including small, sometimes obscure, details for other writers to pick up on (if they choose) and run with. I'm big into character development and plot. I don't shy away from darker or adult themes, but I also don't focus on these aspects of writing.

I would love to start a new story or dive into something already established! Although I really enjoy player-made worlds, it's also nice to have established lore and settings to rely on, so I'm not very picky in this regard! I have experience role-playing in medieval high- and low-fantasy settings, the Marvel universe, the Star Wars universe, modern fantasy settings, and would love a chance to dive into a post-apocalyptic setting or steampunk/Lovecraftian universe. I won't lie, the upcoming release of the movie Dune: Part 2 and the video game Dune: The Awakening has my interest piqued in this universe as well!

I am including a portion of backstory for a character I created some time ago for the Sunless Sea (Fallen London) universe, if you want an idea of my writing style..

Darkness, and the gentle lapping of the zee.

Cold, and whispers in the void.

How long had the zailor been drifting? Even they couldn't be sure. There was no sense of time, only the constant gloom of the Neath, of drifting in and out of consciousness. Once they had found the energy to open their eyes, simply to discover what that /awful/ smell was –

– “Oh. Crab.” Their voice rasped forward flatly, just another whisper on the Unterzee.

Darkness, deeper than that consolatory offer of the Neath; darkness, coveted state of the Mind.

“Wrack on th' port quarter! Come thirty-degrees t' port! On th' double, else one of us'll be diving in t' untangle th' prop!”

There was a rush of movement across the deck, some to relay the message to the helmsman, others to lean over the railing to peer into the murky darkness; so rare was it to see anything adrift in these inky waters, they often hoped for something more than it appeared to be.

“Oy, lookout, that don't be zee-wrack! That be hair!” a voice shouted.

“No, not hair, you bloody fool! Bandages!” said another.

“It's adrift on something!” cried yet another.

The lookout lifted his spyglass to his eye. With a shock, he let it fall. “It's a zailor! A zailor, tangled up in th' broken claw of a crab! Quick, a line! Haul 'em in!”

It was quick work for the crew of the SS Double Trick, who soon had the bundle of hair, clothing, and crab claw hauled onto the deck. More time was expended in disentangling the sodden figure from the shards of shattered blue shell. By the time the Principled Captain arrived on the scene, the crew was taking bets on whether it was human and if it was still alive.

“My bet's it's a devil!” someone cried. “S'only thing that could survive being adrift in the zee!”

“Bloody thing's dead! Gave a prayer to Storm at Gaider's Mourn and found its answer, har!” suggested another.

“Sure as th' false-stars shine o'erhead, it's an outcast o' Salt! Give it back t' th' zee!”

The Principled Captain held up his hand for silence among the crew. “She – he? – isn't dead. We will /not/ be casting him – her? – back to the zee. I daresay the Fathomking has denizens enough already, wouldn't you?” A few disconcerted groans arose from the gathered mates, particularly those of a religious sort. He waved his hand to quiet them down again. “I hope the day ne'er comes that I leave a drifting zailor to her – his? – death amongst Bound Sharks and Lorn-Flukes. And you should thank the false-stars for that; what if it were one of you lot? Now. Take this... this Enigmatic Zailor – ” the Principled Captain had finally settled on an androgynous description,“ – to the medical cabin. I'd rather not have to make an unscheduled stop in The Promised Sea.”

I hope to enjoy role-playing with you all soon! Thanks for reading!
