I have been playing tabletop RPGs for 16 years, with more nights spent as a dungeon master than a player. I am fortunate to share the hobby with creative, and enthusiastic friends who can meet regularly and share in the love and craft of storytelling. Tangentially, for as long as I can remember - a little more than three decades - I have filled binders, notebooks, and sketchpads with worlds and kingdoms I visit in my mind.

I have never role-played by post. I looked into it a few years ago but had trouble finding a prompt or partner I felt matched my expectations. This week, I spent hours reading through posts on the site and am happy to see a vibrant community of varied interests and styles. I’ve taken note of several interest checks, characters, and writers already. I appreciate the organization of the site, too. I see that lore, setting, and rough outlines are wood-shopped outside of IC tabs, and the story is documented neatly in a dedicated space. I like that.

I’m interested in a one-on-one collaboration with narrative depth. I can commit to two thoughtful posts a week (350+ words). I won't write less but would like time to judge the commitment before promising to be more active. Romance is not a requirement, but a romantic plot would have me writing a heterosexual male. I can write side characters of any gender/sex. Regardless of character relationship, I ask that any partner be 20+.

The list of thematic disinterests will be much shorter than a list of interests. I am not interested in school, heavily militaristic, combat-oriented, or fandom settings. Otherwise, the setting and themes are less important than the delivery. I have seen posts of medieval, paranormal, high-fantasy, slice-of-life, cyberpunk, scifi, and settlement building plots that have all interested me. Forced to choose, I would love an ancient or classical era setting (e.g. Babylon, Rome, The Nile, Mohenjo Daro).

On a personal note, I loved the following books: Shadow Of The Torturer (Gene Wolfe), the Three Body Problem series (Liu Cixin), Pillars Of The Earth (Ken Follett), and A Short History Of Nearly Everything (Bill Bryson). I hike the deer paths slowly, silently, and pause often. I can’t wait until my daughter is old enough to come, not long now. In the garden, I plant native perennials because I love the critters and the land as much as the flowers. Games of chance are a hoot but my heart is in calculated strategy. I draw with pencil and ink, in black and shades of grey, color seems to me an entirely separate hobby. I love tea. My wife says I make it too complicated, and I probably do, but I find peace in ritual.

I look forward to following your adventures, romances, and trials. I’ll keep looking through interest checks, and might add my own. If, by reading this introduction, you suspect we would make good partners, please reach out to me and we can discuss our collaboration.

Thank you for reading.

Welcome to the guild! I hope that you'll find the perfect partner for your roleplays; the books that you've named look fascinating, and I'll be sure to check them out when I find the time.
