Ashwood Hollow

The coven has always operated in secrecy here, using their magic to protect their town from supernatural threats. Lately strange occurrences have shaken their peace: streetlights flicker and hum with energy, people go missing without a trace, and static filled broadcasts interrupt local radio stations, repeating the same chilling phrase: "The black signal is coming".

The small eerie town of Ashwood Hollow nestled in a valley surrounded by dense ancient forest. Ashwood Hollow is a small but peculiar half abandoned town with a history of unexplained events. Overcast skies dominate the town with fog rolling in most mornings and evenings. The air smells faintly of wood smoke and damp earth, and the streets are often quiet save for the occasional sound of wind chimes or distant church bells. The lantern style streetlights line the main street casting dim pools of light at night.

Established in June of 1692, the witches that came before settled in Ashwood fleeing persecution of the witch trials. The witches would help found and establish the town protecting it with woven magic seals all around the area the town had been built. After many years, it seems that the protective seals have weakened and the many strange events have begun.

The growing yet alarming number of residents disappearing, some returning and having lost all memory, some returning too shocked to speak save one word "The beacon". Believed to be lured into the forest or what are referred to as the shadow zones created by something dark, presumably this beacon. The residents have searched high and low for this beacon to no success.

The vanishing hour as the residents refer to it. Every night at precisely 2:17 AM, a strange phenomenon occurs. For exactly seventeen minutes, clocks in the town stop, electronics malfunction, and all sound ceases. During this time shadowy figures are seen walking the streets or peering into windows. Anyone outside claims to feel a chilling hand brush their shoulder, but turning around reveals nothing.

The bridge leading out of the town occasionally vanishes and is replaced by a thick mist. Drivers who attempt to cross during these times find themselves back where they started no matter which way they go and some claim to have heard voices in the mist urging them to turn back. Occasionally an otherworldy market appears behind Main Street during the vanishing hour and vendors with glowing eyes sell strange wares- jars of moonlight, bottled whispers, or cursed trinkets. Buyers often regret their purchases, as the items seem to bring bad luck or strange dreams.

Trees seem to murmur and whisper at night in the forest and on certain nights, townsfolk report seeing a parade of ghostly figures marching down Main Street dressed in old fashioned clothing, carrying lanterns that emit an otherworldly blue glow and reenacting events from the town's history.

All these events happening with more occurring seemingly every month, and to add to the coven's growing number of problems, a mysterious benefactor has appeared in town and taken residence at the old motel making himself known to the witches and claiming to be there to help; can they really trust his words? With all of this happening and having this "Black signal" to worry about, the coven will certainly have their hands full. Will they be able to solve these problems and keep the town safe, or will the town be overtaken by the darkness to come?

If you got this far, hello and thank you for reading. My name is Hyyde, and this is a roleplay I have been wanting to put together for a long time. It's been a long time since I have seen a roleplay about witches, so rather than sit around and wait forever for one to show up, I decided to make one. This is a story set in modern day that revolves around an eerie small town where strange paranormal occurrences have been happening. The coven of witches that have been protecting the town will have to deal with these occurrences and many more while trying to balance a normal life and honing their magical abilities. I'm open to work shopping with people as I want this to also be a world building opportunity, so if this catches your interest and you have an idea you want to run by me, don't hesitate to suggest something and we can work together and flesh out the idea. Now I know what you might be thinking, the magic. How does it work, what kind of magic is allowed, How well will our characters be able to use their receptive magical abilities.

Well I can absolutely answer those. The source of magic comes from ley lines, which are invisible streams of energy flowing beneath the earth. Witches tap into this energy using rituals, artifacts, and their own innate ability. Magic is costly and requires energy, which can drain a witch physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. Overuse can lead to "magic burn"-a condition where their abilities become erratic or uncontrollable.

Intent also matters in this world. Magic is fueled by intent and emotion. A spell cast with doubt or fear can backfire, while one cast with focus and determination is more likely to succeed. There are five types of magic in total you can choose from with one of them being very costly and far more dangerous. I will go over the types once I've garnered enough attention for this. While we will be adept, we will not be all powerful. Think seasoned veterans.

With that out of the way, I am looking for a small group of four to six people who can post once a week. If you need longer, just let me know beforehand, I know life gets in the way. It may be sometimes I have to skip a week, so I won't rush anyone. Word count doesn't matter to me, I prefer quality over quantity, so if you can't post more than one paragraph, then don't worry, but absolutely NO one-liners. If all goes well and I get some interest in this, I'll put together a character sheet and put up the ooc. That's it, thank you for your time if you got this far and I hope to roleplay with you guys.

@Hyyde322 I am tentatively interested. I'd like to hear more about the magic before I decide. ^.^

@Hyyde322 I am tentatively interested. I'd like to hear more about the magic before I decide. ^.^

So there's four types of magic

Illumination (light and knowledge)
This magic focuses on Divination, revealing hidden truths, creating light in darkness. Scrying to locate a missing person, reading the threads of fate to read possible futures, Illuminating hidden symbols or magical traps, etc. This magic can blind the caster temporarily or overwhelm them with too much information if overused

Shadow (Obfuscation and Protection)
This one focuses on concealment, illusions, wards, and defensive spells. Creating veils of invisibility, projecting false images to confuse enemies, constructing magical barriers or safe zones etc. This magic feeds on fear; too much use can amplify paranoia or create unintentional shadows (manifestations of the caster's doubts)

Elemental (nature and balance)
using the natural elements; fire, earth, air, water, and healing. This magic sometimes requires physical components (herbs, water, fire, soil.) Using this one too much can leave the environment unbalanced or damaged.

Void (The forbidden art)
Manipulation of time, space, and pure energy; communicating with entities like the eater of lights. Opening portals, binding malevolent spirits, drawing power directly from the beacon or ley lines. It is inherently corrupting. It drains life force, attracts dangerous entities, and risks destabilizing reality itself

So, are witches only female, or can I make a (gay) male witch? :)

Okay, so they're tapping into the ley lines to power their magic, but it requires energy to tap into energy?

So does this require a ritual, say dancing, to draw in that power from the ley lines, perhaps to fill a reservoir that can then be tapped to power the spells? Is this like an external reservoir, say an altar or large stone, or a gemstone one might wear, or some internal space one can use? Some call it a core?
