The Background:

The Island was once a top secret testing facility for the UN, where genetic tests took place on humans- both willing and unwilling. The genetic mutations began to get out of hand. When subjects would procreate, new mutations or similar ones would show up in the children. Concerned with what they had done and it's unchecked continuation, the scientists and guards abandoned their posts and locked down the Island, abandoning their human lab rats to their fate. The year is 2163 and for the last eighty years, the Island has remained hidden from the world. The few who knew of it's existence have long since left and it has been forgotten, existing on no map. The former test subjects and their offspring have flourished within the surprising safety of their hideaway and built a grand and advanced society. Some even call the island New Atlantis. Now, however, many are beginning to grow restless and wish to reveal themselves to the world. An elite team of the best and brightest between the ages of 17 and 35 are now being gathered for an excursion to the outside world. Time is growing short for them to reveal themselves before they are found and present themselves as friends instead of something to be feared. The tests to select the team are beginning and the clock is counting down. Will they be found first and what will they find in the world beyond the heart of The Island?

The Situation

Congratulations! You have been accepted for screening for New Atlantis' exploratory unit. My name is Keilan Liles, the unit's leader, and I'm the one who got to decide who leaves the Island with me.. It is imperative that the best, brightest, most exemplary of our people present our existence to the outside world, so I have chosen you all!
We've kept an eye on the outside world for many years now and it's time we show ourselves, before they get a shock. Our monitoring systems tell us that they function quite differently out there than we do and are far less accepting of change. So we have to work quickly and delicately. Our defenses are rather superior, but we don't want to risk being considered a threat and have them turn their vast amounts of weaponry on us! War is not fun. Now, as you can see from just looking at myself, any outwardly obvious mutations are not going to prevent anyone who has been deemed worthy from going out, so don't be concerned and don't hold back! Remember, they aren't used to people like us who wear our mutations of every kind proudly. I don't think they've seen anything like us outside of their fictional writings, movies and lore.
Now! Time to get through some training and head out in to the great wide world! I'm ready! Are you?

Other Info

The Island and the rest of the world are going to have rather distinct differences in technological advancement. First of all, the Island is freer to work on technologies and has the advantage of overall better mental capacity. The disadvantage is that the Island has had little reason to build a true weapons arsenal, though they did have a clear focus and purpose to build defensive and stealth technologies to hide themselves, but, as a general rule, The Island's tech is more advanced than the outside world's. They have incredible medical tech and have also developed teleporters capable of moving living forms, among other things.

The outside world is basically divided in to three factions and their technologies have focused on building advanced nuclear weapons and defense systems and working on super-soldiers and the like. They have developed a few things like quantum teleport systems for weapon transfer and energy based weapons and amassed large stocks of them while working on improving them. This is one of their advantages over the Island. Their medical tech has advanced to incorporate what are, in essence, bacta tanks and nanotoch, and things like the flu and certain types of cancer have been nearly eradicated... For those who serve enough purpose to be saved.

The island itself is a democratic-style council government. Each region of this surprisingly large (total land area is close to 13,000 sq miles), technologically concealed island holds elections to select new council members every five years. The society over all is quite accepting of each other, though wary of the world that experimented on and cast out their predecessors. They keep a well trained, but somewhat small 'military' or police like force, but crime rates are almost insanely low. Education is compulsory to an extent, but anything past secondary school is up to the student. Jobs are found easily enough for all niches and education levels. This is a Utopian society.

Mutations may come in any form, from enhanced mental/sensory capabilities and outwardly invisible physical enhancements to things that may seem as crazy as functional gills, wings, or scales. Be creative, but do try not to be insanely op with it. You have to sleep. You have to eat. You have to breathe somehow. You do get tired. You are not unstoppable. You have a max of 5 abilities per mutation and a max of 2 mutations per character. Please make them coexist harmoniously together and make sense. Self healing/regen is doable. However, if you want to play team medic, you must do so through medical know how and tech. Your mutation will not allow you to heal someone else. This is not Urban Arcana, sorry folks. That may come later.

To let me know you've read this stuff, somewhere in your CS, toss in "Behold! The Handfork of Truth!" or "The meaning of life is bucket!" Extra awesome points if you incorporate it some how. They don't do anything, but an amused gm is less likely to kill the partyyyy~

Appearance: look here!
Abilities: Flight, Advanced Telepathy, Telekinesis, Empathy, enhanced sight, enhanced hearing,
Non-mutational Skills: Keilan is a first rate cook, and surprisingly is good at, and enjoys, hunting.
Personality: Keilan seems to be a relatively happy and bubbly person, but without being incapable of having serious moments. Her moods appear relatively simple and she has an overall open and calming disposition. At times, it's almost like you can't help but be happy around her.
Goals: She wishes to see the beginning of a peaceful introduction of the Island and economic integration of The Island's goods in to the society of the world. She also seems quite eager to explore.
Fears/Weaknesses: It is obvious quickly that Keilan is not fond of water. Her feathers do not seem to repel it as well as they could. Extreme temperatures, she does not react well to very high temperatures or very low, they make her moody and feel sick.

Name: Latia Thrasher
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Mutation: Latia can change the molecules in her skin to mach any solid material (stone, mineral, wood, plastic, cloth, etc.). Though extremely protective and useful in many things, Latia isn't always spot on with the molecule compounds, and sometimes creates - accidently, of course - chinks in her armor or even entirely different materials.
Appearance: Her hair is a brownish-auburn that she keeps in a messy bun, and she has big, round eyes that are a darker brown. She stands at about 5'5" and her build is slender with slight curves; however, she has great cardio strength and above-average muscle strength. Her complexion, when in normal skin form, is pale and she has a few freckles crossing from her inner cheekbones and over her nose. Her overall look is sometimes described as "dainty'.
Abilities: The various materials she can transform her skin into act as a shield, camoflauge, flammable striker, and sometimes even parchment to draw on (mostly for fun, sometimes for strategizing, sometimes to read sheet music).
Non-mutational Skills: Plays piano, handy with knives, good for shuffling cards, knows basic and some advanced martial arts (taught to her by her father)
Personality: A woman of few words, Latia is thought to be shy and a 'follower'. However, though not a genius like some of her peers, her mind is always churning with thoughts, conversation, and her own, set-in-stone ideals and morals. As a child, Latia depended heavily on her father, who was closer to her than her mother ever was. As a result, she is extremely projective of her father's outlook on the world - to speak rarely, work hard, and gain acceptance from the people around her at all costs. A silent, side-kick like demeanor makes her the target of many arguments when it comes to choosing sides. Her friends, though few, described her as "deep-thinking and opinionated. Loyal."
Goals: Her father, though a man of few words, told Latia many stories as a child that consisted of what the outside world was like: a harsh, cruel place so unlike The Island that she grew up on. She wants to prove her father wrong, because, though she sides on most everything with him, she refuses to believe that there is such evil in the world.
Fears/Weaknesses: Her lack of practice with her mutation makes it difficult to use at times. She is also deathly afraid of heights, and she makes poor decisions under pressure. Her intrapersonal demeanor makes her susceptible to "spacing-out".
Backstory/Extra stuff: Latia grew up in a rather middle-class home, raised by her father and neglected by her workaholic mother. She developed a skill for playing paino at age seven, and was considered a prodigy among her peers. At age 8, Latia grew to crave stories from her father about the world outside The Island, and would often compose piano works about such stories. Though she was in love with the piano, she was also enrolled in a martial-arts studio (via her mother). Her talents in this area were never very exceptional until her father began teaching her in private of his own style and moves. Although she improved greatly at martial-arts through him, Latia continued to follow the path of the pianest, eventually landing herself a performing job in one of the great concert halls of The Island at age 16. Soon after her career began, her father died in a freak car accident, rendering the upcoming performer rather mute and inexpressive. However, she continued her career, into her late teens and eventually her twenties, until the offer of leaving the Island reached her in the form of a little white envelope.

I'm curious to know though, was her father's mutation something that slowed his aging process or was he telling stories of the outside world learned from his father, or even a job in surveillance? It's definitely a good goal/motivator either way.

We start once I get a few more CSs in. :)

Name: Thaddeus Fitch
Age: 22
Sex: Male
Mutations: Minor shape-shifting and super speed
Appearance: Generally about 5'6", somewhat tanned, and with fairly short hair, Thaddeus will usually have small spines visible on various parts of his body (e.g. a cluster at each temple, a line running down the length of both ulnae, etc., depending on how he feels at the time). Other than that, he looks much like any wiry, athletic young man of the non-mutant variety.
Abilities:


Skills: -In-depth knowledge of anatomy allows Thaddeus to land any hits much more effectively, as well as assess and treat injuries with great accuracy and speed (given the appropriate tools, or at least supplies sufficient for improvising the necessary tools for whatever the injury may be).
-Study of nature sciences and botany have included a variety of subjects, ranging from what is and is not safe to eat, to what certain patterns in plant and animal life can mean with regards to the local environment and directions, to what plants have what basic medicinal properties.
-Decent mastery of somewhat advanced unarmed combat (primarily forms closely resembling those of jiu-jitsu from human society).
-Highly accurate at hitting things from a distance
-Reasonably proficient with whatever types of weaponry are common in the mutant society
-Incredibly high tolerance for pain (possibly brought on by the fact that he grows spines out from his skeletal structure, possibly just a side-effect of the regenerative properties of his mutation).
Personality: Though typically very playful and fun-loving, Thaddeus does have a rarely-seen serious side. His usual outlook, however, is to just enjoy himself and do all that there is to be done. He is often very outspoken, trying to make things fun for everyone around, not just for him (with varying degrees of success at times).
Goals: Thaddeus' driving objective is, quite simply put, to experience everything that there is. He has an overwhelming curiosity, and an insatiable appetite for exploration of all sorts. As such, when he heard that he might have the opportunity to finally go somewhere new (having already explored essentially everything he deemed to be of interest on the island), he leaped at the chance.
Fears/Weaknesses: As stated above, Thaddeus' curiosity is rather overwhelming, which can cause him to take rather unnecessary risks, rather than stopping to consider the possible consequences of his actions.
Additionally, his particular mutations have the unsurprising side effect of an unbelievably fast metabolism (and an appetite and required caloric and nutritional intake to match). If he goes too long without eating sufficiently (or taking in a decent variety of nutrients), various aspects of his mutant abilities begin to slow down (reduced movement speed, restrictions on shape-shifting, etc., depending on what is lacking from his diet). Also requires significantly more food than a normal person of about his size and build should have any reason to need.
Bio: While his mutations wound up as an interesting blending of those of his parents, his personality was almost a carbon-copy of his mother's, and he grew up emulating her adventurous spirit and reckless nature. He did make himself sit through his father's lessons in weapon use and safety, since his father is a ranking member of the security force, but the only reason he was able to retain any of those teachings was courtesy of his heightened mental processing speed allowing him to catch the information while still daydreaming and planning out his next exploration. When his father sent him to practice martial arts, however, it was a whole other matter entirely. For that, he suddenly found himself able to concentrate fully on something, without even thinking about his next exploration at all during the lessons.
The only other lessons during which he could actually focus were the ones that would be useful for either of his real passions (martial arts and exploration), such as anatomy or botany, though he continued through with all of his studies for as long as he could, because his father insisted that he receive a well-rounded education.
When he eventually caught wind of the opportunity to actually leave the island, he was absolutely ecstatic, and rushed off to get into the screening process as quickly as possible.

Names: Rhee and Lilu
Ages: 19
Gender: Lilu is a girl, and though Rhee is biologically male, he identifies as agendered.
Mutations: Rhee has Pyrokinesis, as well as fire absorption, though the latter is a bit tricky, as he takes damage from the fire he absorbs into his body if he holds it too long. Lilu is the opposite; she has cryokinesis, the ability to create and control ice and cold water. The both have a shared mutation, which is that although they are both twins, they only have one body between them. When one inhabits the body, the other is pushed into a semi-dormant mode in the back of the mind. Their body also changes physically depending on who is currently dominant.
Appearance: Both have dark brown skin and long black hair, Rhee likes to wear his up and Lilu prefers it down, so people can tell who is who. Both are very slender and androgynous, as there are only very slight differences between them. Rhee's eyes are more slender than his sister's and are a light brown, whereas Lilu's are blue and have longer lashes. Rhee has a long blue tattoo going down his right side to his thigh.
Abilities: Aside from their mutations, they are both adept contortionists, and have a slightly enhanced sense of sight and taste. They can also communicate face-to-face with the use of a mirror.
Non-mutational skills: Rhee enjoys sewing and is an accomplished cook. Lilu prefers dancing and making loud music.
Personalities: Rhee is very quiet and straightforward, giving off the air of an cool and intelligent person. In reality, however, things are very different. He is good at reading the atmosphere, but terrible at communicating with people, and often gets into trouble by unwittingly blurting out whatever comes to mind. He cannot read, or solve simple algebraic equations, being unable to imagine something that does not exist. A very simple and blunt person, he cares very much for his sister and the people around him, though he does tire of questions about his sexuality. Lilu, on the other hand, is simply a bundle of energy. Constantly bubbly and talking, she often bickers with her more quiet and asocial brother, and enjoys playing pranks on him for when he gains control. A mischievous mink, she is clever and cunning, with an unforgiving mean streak and perhaps a bit of sadism hidden behind her happy smile. She enjoys poking fun at people and making up parodies.
Goals: To find their mother. Many years prior, a storm swept the island, and though there was little damage to infrastructure, four people were missing, seemingly without a trace. With no evidence of foul play or suicide, it was concluded that the four had been swept out to sea. Rhee and Lilu's mother was among the lost four. Despite heavy odds, the twins had hope that she was still alive, and safe, perhaps, in the outside world.
Fears/Weaknesses: Rhee cannot swim, and Lilu has a severe fear of insects, to the point where she will freeze anything that scurries or scuttles. Also, they cannot switch between another with relative ease- they can only switch every four hours, though it is not mandatory that they do so. In addition, switching requires the consent of both twins- if one is unconscious or unwilling, then they cannot switch.
Backstory/Extra Stuff: Rhee never understood basic problems, and refused to attend middle school and high school. Seeing as one cannot really punish someone who isn't physically there, and since Lilu was an exceptional student, the school gave in, though they warned Rhee that this would only hurt himself. He was something of an unruly delinquent and a truant due to this, and got in trouble several times, something he doesn't like being brought up.

My! What an exciting group this is shaping up to be! Both of your characters are accepted. ^_^ That is half the group up. Yoyo will be late, which only leaves Kirra and Cantide. I may post the IC tomorrow since that's the case. :)

Name: Mikhail Hare
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Mutation: Super Strength to put it frankly. His bones are practically made from metal and as a result he can lift a lot.
Appearance:
Abilities: He can lift up to around 25 tons along with his physical attacks being a lot stronger.
Non-mutational Skills: As well as speaking English he can alsospeak Russian and German. He also knows the 'SAMBO' fighting style along with being pretty handy with his machete.
Personality:Mikhail isn't really the type to want many friends. He prefers to have a close knit few friends rather than a lot of friends and as a result can seem quite antisocial when first met. After you've known him for a while though he tends to loosen up and begin to crack jokes and actually care about his new friends. During battle though he tends to be serious and professional unless something terrible happens in which he goes full rage mode and begins to decapitate his kills.
Goals: He's wanted to see his ancestors birth places for a long time. He doesn't really care about much else but the stories his grandparents used to tell him of Russia and Germany in such depth and with such emotion that it could make just about anyone want to visit there.
Fears/Weaknesses: Because his bones are made from metal he sinks when in water. His rage is another weakness, he can get uncontrollable and uncooperative with just about everyone if someone get's him angry.
Backstory/Extra stuff: Mikhail was born in solitude. His parents were extremely overprotective and always kept him under the watchful eyes of either him or his grandparents. He didn't mind really, he got to learn on his own along with being able to hear his grandfather and grandmothers stories about where they were from. He was a prodigy at a lot of menial jobs from a young age. His favourite being fixing up his older brothers car which always seemed to break down. This would affect him in later life when he became a machine mechanic. He also ran a small business on the side in which he cut down the tall grass around peoples homes or ones the town council just wanted cut down. He got pretty nifty with his machete and began to practice in the fighting arts. His father took notice of this, and while being a middle aged man, taught Mikhail everything his father taught him about SAMBO and fighting. Soon enough Mikhail recieved a letter offering him the chance to get off island. He accepted with hopes in his heart that he could return to the place of his grandfathers birth.

Sorry for the delay! I was going to get things done this morning before I had to leave for the day but my dog started to have an allergic reaction (not the one posted as my avatar, Mahz was having a little fun). I'll start up my character sheet and either have it done tonight or tomorrow morning. Just in case I don't finish before you are ready to start the IC, I'll be playing a twenty-four year old woman named Harper. I'll probably will have be able to manipulate metal, unless I can think of something that would be better.
