Hello, thank you for taking the time to read this! I am a big fan of the Kaiserreich universe, and decided to try and do where Chairman Stein before me failed: Run a military/war/fighting/whatever RP in their scenario of the Second American Civil War. The political background is as follows:
The United States of America remained neutral during the Weltkrieg(WWI), and the absence of American doughboys in Europe led to a German victory in the spring offensive. Throughout 1918 and 1919 the Imperial German Army overran Europe. The French Republic was descending into chaos and civil war after the Conseil Générale du Travail (General Labor Council) called a general strike, crippled the economy and farmers and labourers aimed to seize power and capture Paris, were beaten to this by Oskar von Hutier. After the fall of France, Italy fell and two years later, on November 11th 1921 the Peace with Honour was signed with the remaining Entente powers(The British Empire, Portugal and Japan) which returned peace to Europe. Germany still stands as the world's foremost political power, it had gained parts of France and massive tracts of Russia, whilst aiding the White Army -Which united at the Congress of Omsk- to defeat Lenin's Bolsheviks. The Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires still stood. Bulgaria asserted itself as the dominant power over the Balkans. Italy was divided into a northern half, ruled by the papacy, and a southern half, ruled by the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Ireland stood united and independent after being armed by the Germans. The Kaiserreich dominated Europe and made work of conquering it economically through protectionist measures.
With most of the Imperial German Army standing down or helping Russia, the CGT and bolshevik Jacobins fought a brief but brutal civil war with the "Establishment" and forced them to Algiers, where they command the former colonial empire. On 22 June 1920 the Federation of Communes was proclaimed, and became the world's first constitutionally socialist state. In Italy, virtually all prominent socialists moved south and quickly launched a revolution in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, proclaiming the Socialist Republic of Italy. In 1925 the French scenario happened in the United Kingdom. The Congress of Trade Unions, led by Arthur Horner, called for a general strike after the pacification of a protest at a Welsh coal mine. After six weeks of rioting, looting, and pamphleteering on a massive scale, the Royal Family was evacuated to Canada, followed by most of the country's leading politicians, large property owners, industrialists, officers and royal navy, bulking the country up to a military and economical world power in its own right.
These revolutions, together with Germany's dominance over world trade ensured that America was progressively forced out of markets in Europe, Africa, Asia and even parts of South America. A slow but inexorable economic decline ensued, followed by an increasingly vicious social conflict. This social conflict saw the slow downfall of the two-party system, with the Combined Syndicates of America, led by Jack Reed, uniting virtually the entire left under his banner and the America First-Union Party under Senator Huey Long united the populist and technocratic right, especially in the deep south. These two parties first showed their strong influence in 1932's violent election, where Herbert Hoover received a second term in office because Franklin Delano Roosevelt failed to win over the leftist vote in formerly Democratic areas, while he was seen as too leftist in the Pacific states, which were kept far from economic crisis due to trade with Japan. Governor Roosevelt was assassinated on April, 12 1935, by an anarchist Italian immigrant living in New Jersey, Guiseppe Zangara, who entered his office in Albany and shot him twice.
During Hoover's second term in office, the crisis worsened further and the elections of 1936 were even more violent than those of 1932. In order to prevent a complete social breakdown, President Hoover acted on the advice of his Chief of Staff, Douglas MacArthur, suspended the elections and handed over power to MacArthur, who pledged to keep the country together. He wanted to do this through regulating the elections with help of the Emergency Security Act, which would give him the power to arrest the members of "un-American" organisations. This was a thinly-veiled attempt at putting MacArthur's anti-socialist agenda into action. The Democrats and Republicans supported it, but the America First party aided the CSA in voting it down. MacArthur did not stop and decreed the AF-U and CSA banned. This led to enormous riots in the streets and protests by the AF-U in congress. As the election day came, Senator Long declared the US dead and declared the American Union State, which were joined by the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Lousiana and Arkansas. In the north, the CSA takes power in the industrial heartland of the US from Chicago to New York City. Parts of the fleet mutiny, Japan seizes Guam, Canada seizes Alaska, Puerto Rico the Panama Canal, and New England north of New York, Hawaii leaves the union, and the Pacific states declare independence. The Red Guards of the trade unions organise, Long's Minute Men mobilise and the National Guard is called up as foreign volunteers, "volunteers", weapons and supplies pour in from all nations. On February 8th, 1937, the second American Civil War had begun.
