So I'm full to burst on RP ideas! I am trying to limit myself on how many RPs I try and open up so I don't end up overflowing with RP trying to keep up like has happened in the past. So, I am just trying to get what I think are my best ideas out. This one is going to be my last one for a while. I think. The idea behind this is really just an open fantasy world that I and 3 other people will create as we go along. There are no set boundaries right now, as those will be set later when we actually get together for the RP. But here are the ground rules that the RP will use for its basis.

The world will be high end fantasy. Magic is a very common thing, and many creatures from centaurs to dragons roam the land and are also quite common.

The world's highest technologies come from both steam engineering, and magical contraptions.

The known world is very large, and our characters have only ever known the one secluded continent they live on. There are other lands with many names however, ones that one day their adventure could well lead to.

The world is ours to explore and create as we see fit. We will have a simple start but a quick start. I feel that sitting around for too long in the area you start out in a RP just talking often kills a RP before it can really get started. So our characters will get together for whatever reason, and head out on their journey right away!

I'm thinking this could be the starting plot:

Our characters all about the same time, at least within a few days, join up with a guild. Guilds are collections of adventurers, and these guilds receive quests directly that any members of the guild can take and complete for the specified rewards. Think Fairy Tail if you have ever seen it. The RP can revolve around our characters and their interactions with this guild, and it will start off with them having joined around the same time and so they decided to go on their first quest at the same time! Or rather they take the same quest together.

From there the world is ours from the city we start in to the world around it. Anyone can make up things as we go along from the mention of mountains to rivers and valleys. Just try not to step on anyone's toes too bad. If someone seems to be playing out an idea, try and ask first if it's okay to do something.

Anywho this is all in the planning stage still, so, is anybody up for a high end fantasy adventure with limitless possibilities?

I dig it.

One thing that I ask is that you put a set of rules on magic, or even describe how it works in full.

Otherwise we'll end up with eight different magic "systems" that everyone's trying to use, and it's just a fustercluck.

EDIT: And what of races? Humans only, or what?

I vote for it needing material components..

Cause if not magic becomes way too easy.

IT makes bows/swords way to ineffective, if someone can just create soemthing with there natural energy.

I had the idea for a rune system where runes give magical attributes to anything they are put on such as runes of fire, ice or protection. The runes are drawn up in midair to create spells such as a fireball rune or anlghtning bolt rune. The more intricate the design of the rune, the more powerful such as Lightning bolt being simple, but Lightning Bolt Chain Jump is more complicated. As such it not only takes longer to produce, but drains more of the caster's life force. Life force is returned through rest, but they can easily ware themselves out.

That would limit magic use while also giving swords and bows magic capabilities.

I'm definitely interested.

One thing I must say, though: I don't think magic, or anything else, should be too developed yet. I think we should trust eachother, in that we wont just make stupidly overpowered characters and ruin the rp. If we trust that we're in it for the fun, I think we can be more lenient on the rules.

With that said, whatever you guys wanna do to set the stage, I'm up for it. Let's do this.

I myself would prefer we start with characters that need improvement. Give them flaws, weaknesses, and over time we will build them up and make them stronger. We may not start as dragon slayers but in time we'll get there.

Good, character development is always my preference.

What if each quest is DMed by a different player? And we take turns running the plot?

I notice, Bell, that you originally wanted a smaller group. What if we had two small groups, each a team or squad of newbies in the guild, doing separate quests. They could meet up in the guild hall between, the events in separate quests could have effects for the rest of us.

I'm interested, but I really hope for a small rp group and I like Gisk's idea. Maybe we can work something out.
My idea is that the people on a quest can take their rp to PMs or something, and report back to GM about their progress. (If you have not noticed, the PM system allow multiple participants) It may not be confusing that way.

Not a bad idea. Then the main thread can only be events at the guild hall/main town. It also prevents mixing character knowledge, since we as players won't know what happened on quests that we were not involved in.

Well characters should generally be good people. Maybe not hero types but still people willing to do their part to help the world.

That depends on the magical traits you have in mind.

That also depends, on the heresy. There could be many religions in this world that people are free to follow.

All that sounds fine, just keep in mind I'll not only be GM but I will have my own character as well.

The only thing is this isn't just a quest based RP. There should be a story and a plot we follow adventuring around. I didn't mean being part of a guild like a bounty board. More like the quests they take send them out on long journeys, sometimes to the end of the continent. So if only one group is doing a quest then only one group gets to be part of that bit of the story. It doesn't seem fair to switch back and forth who can and can't be part of certain parts of the RP. In this way. People would miss half the story. Even with a recap of the quest, half the group still wasn't there and didn't take part in it.

What we could do... Is have two separate threads. One for each group, and they will each have their own story to follow. Could follow your idea here in that each group follows their main story through PMs while activities that involve everyone are based in the thread. Then the groups would be kept separate from one another, if that's what you meant.

Also to this point.... Sword, users are defined by their physical abilities. Archers are defined by being extremeyly quick and tacticle.

You pretty much stated everyone should use magic, there is no reason not too other then flavor.

O.k. so i propsose this.

YOu're magic style is fine for mages,but archers/warrior's will get punished heavily for even trying to hybrid.

So a good suggestion here.

Warriors-IF you want them to be supernatural maybe some sort of rage system, or something that doesn't punish them and make them have to take even the slghtest break when fighting, as a warriros job is to pretty much charge down the enemy. Using there better speed, armor, and good weapon to outfight them. Weak to mages, either due to the struggle to get to them do to their spells, or the fact that armor doesn't stop a fireball.

rogues/archers-Out react, Out Run, Out smart. The three outs of being a good ranger type class. They generally don't like fighting without the underhand and change there style for each opponent. They have to be reacting every second so it's bad to have them stop and cast. You could either give them some sort of out of combat thing, or some kind of ass saving for a cost type of magic system, but stoppin to cast is death for them.

That's my view.

The other problem either way is that even if this system works what it takes for them to fight is still really really unfair.

warriors- Good training on how to use a their weapon. Good weapons/armor, good maitanance on said weapon/armor, trained will to withstand a blow, a lot of energy, and probably a bit of injurey while fighting.

Archer/rogue-They have to make traps(in case their that kind this can be skipped.),They have to have arrows/daggers,It helps to do something to them whether it be poison or enchant, They have to practice aim and stealth, They have to train there bodies, and practice dodging to keep from getting out of breath, and to be able to dodge swords, and fire balls. IT takes a lot of energy to fight.

Mage-I have to learn how to draw runes, I have to use energy to do so.

Taking the factors the others don't have mage is left with

Mage-I have to learn how to draw runes.

I'd appreciate if you fixed that instead of circled around this issue i have.

I am definitely interested in this, if there is room. I agree that the characters should start off developing-a roleplay like this with everyone just powerful becomes boring pretty quickly.

I think having quests would liven things up a bit as well, but that there should be a main plot or story.

If there are two groups, would it get confusing?

Sorry I really haven't been able to post anything yet, I've been asleep ^^

I'd like to point out a few things, though I'm fairly open to many concepts otherwise. @PinkFlower, I think you're keeping everything too restricted when it comes to combat. You think of the combat in fantasy like some MMO, but it's much different. I wish that, at this time, I could state the issues of limiting the types of weapons and abilities that characters can use, but I literally just woke up so I won't be looking into things in-depth for a while. If you need an idea on what I mean, just think that fighters of all types will use what they're proficient and comfortable with, not what some invisible guidelines say.

I have to agree with Dub. This isn't really about being 'fair' or anything. Everyone should get to play the character they want to whether it's a warrior that's really good with a sword, an archer that's really good with a bow, a wizard that can quickly draw powerful runes, or any combination of them, as well as any other combat styles. We should focus on what people CAN do rather than what they can't when compared to others.

As Dub said, this is different than an MMO or any other type of game. Specifically, it's NOT a game and our characters shouldn't be limited to rules about what they have to do in certain combat styles. Each character will fight in whatever way they trained. Characters aren't restricted to classes such as warrior and archer. They are simply adventurers with whatever skills they have gained over the years.

This is Roleplay, not a competitive game.
