| Identity | - Victor Stone/Cyborg

| Origin & Backstory | -
Pre Year 1- Victor Stone grew up in the moderately fortunate areas surrounding New York City, and when he was young, his mother left her family in order to be with another man. Growing up, his father would barely register his existance, instead focusing on his work with multiple Government Agencies. When he entered High School, he attempted to join various sports teams, though he failed at most everything except the swimming team, but lacked the motivation and drive to continue on after losing multiple swim meets.
Sometime before his High School graduation, he and his father have a falling out and Victor decides to join the Armed Forces.

Year 1- During his training as a Marine, Victor is in the rec area of the base during downtime when he watches a broadcast of a caped man saving an airplane, in in-flight no less. This event starts to grow cracks in his feelings of being a soldier, when "a guy like that" can do what he does on a daily basis, then what good is the common soldier? Though these ideas are quickly put to rest when he has one of his first ever heart to heart talks with his superiors, and he goes through said training without anything else spectacular occurring, of course until the invasion of Sta'rro...

Year 2- With the height of the supergroup craze levelling out, and the rise of the Supervillain coming into light, Victor was more or less forced into a unit of military men and women to fight those that threatened democracy and the American way of life as the Human Defense Force, and though the unit was short lived, Victor was later diagnosed with PTSD because of the actions involved and deaths of his former brothers and sisters in arms. This eventually drove him to drink and introduced him to alcoholism, despite the help and advice of other soldiers who went through the same thing. Eventually, his drinking problems caused the deaths of himself and a scouting group of several other individuals.

Year 3- At the beginning of the New Year, Victor Stone is reborn into the near perfect (and first known successful) man-machine fusion, at the behest of a secret military sect, which not even his superiors are allowed to know the name of. After learning of all his advanced systems, as well as learning (through a link between minds) that his cybernetic side is actually sentient, he revolts against his "creators" when they attempt to force him into killing an espionage traitor of America, and fights back, though he finds himself in the middle of the Middle East. As it turns out,his creators knew this might happen and had two "back-up"'s created in the form of Cyborgirl and Grid, both of whom were killed in the scouting wreck indirectly caused by Victor. As Victor travels the world trying to escape the clutches of Grid (who in his past life was a soldier who already had a tendency to shoot first), Cyborgirl puts his father into a hostage situation. When Victor and he reunite, they make amends after it is revealed that Vic's father had developed the schematics for Victor's new body (but didn't account for Moore's Law (every few years, technology will become even more powerful, and will at one point potentially surpass human processing power). Though Victor manages to kill Cyborgirl (not permanently), his father sacrifices himself to stop Grid, who has now become more machine than man. Now without a family, and hunted by the government, Victor has taken a job as a janitor at an NYC church led by a good man by the man of Ron Evers...

| Character Notes | -
Cast-
Billy Numerous- a homeless kid part of Ron Evers' congregation, he reveals his powers to Victor after the two become roommates at a homeless shelter and helps him get a job at the HIVE Nightclub as a security guard.
Brother Blood- Ron Ever's fellow pastor, he handles the more adult flock and commonly uses Revelation in his sermons. He does this to eventually form his own cult.
Cyborgirl- After "dying" at the hands of Victor, her body rebuilds itself, and she begins to stalk Victor, her fractured mentality believing that, due to their unique physiology, they belong together.
Ding Dong Daddy- an enigmatic leader of a ring of car thieves that like to boost the original machine to impossible levels and then use said machine to commit anti-government crimes.
Grid- a very vicious mercenary turned cybernetic beast that is u ntiring in his mission for vengeance against Victor for both killing and creating him. Deep down, he gas a desire to die, but can't bring himself to do anything about it.
Mr. Orr- Victor's "Thunderbolt Ross". A military man who was going to be his superior before he abandoned them. Now he has to find and retrieve Victor or risk not only a dishonorable discharge, but death from the unknown leaders of the project.
Ron Evers- an honest preacher whom Victor kind of befriends, until Brother Blood corrupts him and preys on his memories of childhood abuse, and he learns Victor had something similar happen to him, so he tries to corrupt Victor
Agent- a secret agent for the US government who learns of Victor's existance and attempts to blackmail him into doing his dirty work, eventually he is killed by Brother Blood and his corpse is used to bring forth a demonic entity and used as it's vessel, enslaved by Brother Blood (so long as it gets to eat people).

| Powers & Abilities |-
Cybernetics- Victor's body was rebuilt into the most technologically advanced machine on Planet Earth, because of how badly his body was destroyed, he is made up of about 80% cybernetics. Some of the blatant human parts that still remain are his left eye, half his face, and half his spinal column (and by association his rib cage)
Superstrength- Due to his cybernetic enhancements, Victor lift 2 tons (40,000 lbs)
Durability- Victor's endoskeletal cybernetics allow him a level of protection. Anything from a handgun bullet to semi automatic weapon fire will only penetrate an inch into his body, fire can melt his synthetic skin, and he can be dented by anyone stronger than him)
Computer Interface Systems- Victor's right eye can hack into any software at a glance (though depending on how powerful the system is, depends on how fast it takes him) similarly, he can do so with his hands
Vision Enhancement- Victor's right eye can see through all visual spectrums of light, provide a HUD system (complete with medical records, DMV information, ect), and schematics of his own body (don't forget a clock).
Super Processor- Victor's cybernetic mind has the processing power and speed of one of the most powerful computer systems on Earth
Sound Amplification- By applying his index finger to another surface, Victor can hear what goes on in another room, though to a lesser degree if the room is soundproof. He can also do this in other ways (see the movie Eagle Eye with Shia LeBouf)
Heel Wheels- Victor is in possession of wheels inside his ankles, allowing him to "run" at speeds topping out at 100 mph at their fastest
Finger Laser- By converting his left fingers inside out, Victor can fire lasers capable of penetrating diamonds
Sonic Cannon- by converting his right arm, Victor now has a weapon similar to a rail gun. He can convert solar energy or thermal energy (from fires and other sources of heat) into a high powered laser weapon, or flashlight.
JetBack- Victor can extend part of his back to reveal a jetpack, which he can thus use to fly a sub-sonic speeds.

| How is this character different? | -
I wish to go against the grain with this interpretation of Cyborg in that he is now homeless, family-less and his cybernetics are sentient, the two being in a (kind of) symbiotic relationship. Instead of the lightheadedness and always joking version of the cartoon, this Victor will be darker and rather angry. He's essentially the only superhero in town, but isn't yet an actual hero as he will start off by committing crimes, and partaking in dangerous behaviors. He will have very little (if any) positive influence in his life.

| What is your goal with this character? |- I want to write a story that straddles the fine line between science and faith, and this is one of the perfect opportunities to do so. On one hand, wryly have Victor who is living in a homeless shelter and starting to believe in a higher power, yet you have him being kept alive by a technological breakthrough. Another theme I wish to convey is the breaking of Victor's basic being. He will slowly break everything he stands for, before becoming a full on member of the Fearsome Five and anti-villain of sorts.

| Sample Post |-

TIME- 00:00

POWER LEVELS- 100%

DETACH CHARGING CABLE TO CONSERVE POWER

In the dead of night, Victor did as the software told him and let go of a power cable he had used to sap the power from a 240 volt wall outlet, the only one in the single bedroom dorm room of the homeless shelter. He was staring aimlessly out the small window, reflecting upon his life ever since he was reborn as a cyborg.

MEMORY CACHE REWIND INITIATED

The air felt good on his synthetic skin, and despite the sheer amount of speed the wind and he were going, he was unblinking, his left eye constantly red, partially due to anger, but very much due to to it's cybernetic nature.

Behind him, soaring through the air, but gradually losing pace with him as he flew almost unsported, aside from the technological marvel that was his jetpack.

"Jesus, why do these people want me dead so bad?" Victor asked, though his voice was carried away with the wind.

MAYBE THEY DON'T WANT US TO FALL INTO ENEMY HANDS? - the sentience of the cybernetics suggested from within where his mind transitioned from biological to mechanical.

"Now that's just being optimistic," Victor snorted as he turned his body to try and outmaneuver the rocket,

VICTOR STONE, I AM INCAPABLE OF EMOTIONAL USAGE,"

"Really now?" Victor asked sarcastically, "just shut up and blow up the rocket," Victor order, and he pointed his left fingers at the speeding aerodynamic, bullet shaped missile.

DEPLOYING FINGER ROCKETS- INDEX FINGER 1

Separating from his hand, his left index finger activated it's tiny thrusters, and through his cybernetic eye he watched it as it launched into the missile and detonated, blowing the missile up.

THREAT TEMPORARILY NEUTRALIZED

"Wait," Victor paused in mid-flight above the landscape, "temporarily?"

In the distance, Victor could make out a grey fighter jet...

NOW

Victor looked over at his bunk bed, he slept on the base bunk while a ginger haired kid was rooming with slept on the top. Quietly, he slipped on his work uniform, which consisted of a black muscle shirt and jeans and quietly left the dorm so Bill could sleep off his previous night's drunken stupor.

Victor decided to take the stairs instead of the elevator, being on the third floor of the five floor homeless shelter.

"So what's on my itinerary today, huh?" Victor asked as he hung his head, making his way downstairs,

"Nothing is scheduled, Victor"

"Maybe because i'm a multi-billion dollar technological marvel, rebelling against it's creators and am now aimless," Victor scoffed at himself as he was on the first floor now and rounded a corner to the custodial closet, retrieving his keys to unlock the door,

"Not to mention a janitor," Victor said with a sigh.

Nice to bee back guys.
Alright, I guess, I shouldn't have changed my name when I registered here. But it's benjaminrk here.
Hopefully they make some kind of system, where you can get some of your old info back or something.
Anyway, I would like to reapply for my old character, and in the background story I have kinda updated it, to where I left off.

.Character you wish to portray: Zatanna Zatara

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: Beyond being physically fit and regularly taking some karate classes Zatanna's fighting capabilities aren't anything special.
It is the magic, which runs in her family, that is her true strength. Saying the right words she can manipulate her environment or summon things. That means she can tear down a wall by removing the mortar, or wrap chains around an opponent in mere seconds. Smaller and simpler spells can often be done with nothing but a whisper.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Zatanna Zatara was a well-known stage name for several years. Multiple Tv shows had covered some of her most famous Vegas tricks. Though other magicians had similar stunts, Zatanna was the first to actually do tricks, that no one could figure out – it was as if, it was real magic. In secret a bit of it actually was. Zatanna had long been amongst the most powerful magical beings on the planet, and after tons of meaningless magic-shows and stage-acts, she started to consider if there was some better way to use her great power.
The great Justice League announced itself, and suddenly she realized her purposed in the world. The team met her and promised to consider the possibility of her joining. Zatanna was even allowed to come along on a few missions. Quickly thereafter things took a turn for the worse, because then “The Monk” happened. Somehow he had been on to her and targeted her. It was now a race against time, where only Batman stepped up to the challenge. On the top of Wayne Tower a fierce battle erupted. When the dust and rain settled, The Monk had been stopped, but Zatanna lied at his feet.
For months she was in a coma – a state only her mind could battle. And when her journey towards unconsciousness finally ended, and her eyes opened once again, it was to the news that because of her fame, from Tv, it was too risky for her to ever join the League. Another hard truth was that though Zatanna could strike with a power, few could match, much lesser powers could be used to take her down for good.

Time passed by and one night her own father came flying through the window. John Zatara told her of the hell, that was to be unleashed all around the world. Crime would be flooding in and faces of evil would reveal themselves.
John has tracked such an agent of destruction to Gotham - a dark magician named Zachary Zor.
Much to John’s dismay Zatanna choose to join her father and travel to Gotham. There they found and battled Zachary, only to find out that a much bigger threat was behind it all. An entire council of the most powerful magical beings on the planet was secretly planning something more terrifying, than anything that had come before.

Now Zatanna and her father will have to plan their next step. Because though the day was won, they face overwhelming odds.

.The burning question - Why this character?: I believe, I can bring some unique to the rp and present a character, that can both fight giant monsters and still be hurt by a single bullet from a gun.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: This is a Zatanna that tries to do good, but when fighting in brutal reality spells sometimes hurt the opponent … a lot.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Hopefully a unique hero, that has to deal with threats in a completely different way. Every threat will probably require a new spell, which means Zatanna constantly mixes up the situations and scenarios.

.Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more:

“Ladies and gentlemen, for my first trick I will show you, how you can make your young ones happy, for absolutely nothing.”
Zatanna made a sensual walk over the circular stage. She was in the very same clothing, she would later in her life, fight crime in – her stage outfit. She knew, there had to be at least 4 experts watching on this night. But that was okay.

Tonight had been completely sold out, and at this point the only thing worth more to people than Zatanna herself, was how on earth she did those incredible tricks. That was what the experts were there to figure out. They hadn't had much luck with her previous shows though.

“How do you make them happy, without losing a single cent?” she repeated out loud. “How do you save a trip to the pet-store? Well… “. She took off her hat and spun it around. “Well, you pull a bunny out of your hat, of course.” A cute white rabbit, named Jeff, peeked out.
This was just the warm up, but ironically transporting Jeff all the way to the inside of her hat was the hardest part to pull off. Zatanna needed to handle the extra weight being placed in her hat and make the transition fluid. The rabbit had put on a few extra pounds over the following months, and he needed to be kept under the stage and brought up through the floor harmlessly in less than a second.
Zatanna's many big, glorious tricks were nothing but cheap illusions, covered up with a tiny bit of real magic. Pulling a bunny out of her hat was the only trick, that was completely real magic. And luckily only Zatanna and Jeff knew it – and Jeff's love for carrots made him easy to bribe… plus he couldn't really speak.

Identity: Jonathan Crane – The Scarecrow

Origin & Backstory –

Jonathan was born and raised in Gotham, his father was a award winning chemist named Walter H. Crane, and his mother an influential psychoanalyst named Amy Crane. Amy was a local of Gotham, having been born and raised in the city. While Walter was a local of Metropolis who came to Gotham for it’s superb Chemistry courses. It was at The University of Gotham that she met Walter, and the two soon fell in love. The pair decided after the conception of Crane to stay in Gotham, to be closer to Amy’s family.

However, at the age of three years old Amy died in a car crash in Gotham, and Walter, overcome with grief, threw himself into his work. He hoped to develop an anesthetic powerful enough to dull any pain, physical or emotional. After two years of work on this, however, he was approached by local thugs hoping to turn his chemical compound into something more sinister. He denied them, and because of his heroism he was killed, his lab burned to the ground.

Jonathan was sent to live with his maternal grandmother, Harriet. There he learned the true meaning of Pain and Fear. Harriet was a religious zealot and a sadistic old woman, demanding utter obedience and perfection from Jonathan. As he grew older in Gotham, his peers ridiculed him for his skittish and shy behavior, and soon he became a social pariah. Though unfortunately for Jonathan, the true torture would begin in High School.

They would take to calling him Scarecrow for his lanky and gaunt form, with a constant serious and melancholy appearance. He made only one friend in High School, named Oliver Kinsley. Oliver would attempt to pull Jonathan up from seclusion, and this culminated in a final event known as Prom.

Jonathan would ask his high school crush to this dance, one Shannon Leary, only to have her publicly reject and humiliate him, and have her (unknown to Jonathan) boyfriend Bruce Turner, begin to physically beat the youth any chance he got. Because of his failure to find any social acceptance from his peers, Harriet took Jonathan’s punishment to the next level.

The days leading up to and after Prom, Harriet would take Jonathan to an abandoned church known as The Church of Saint George’s Redemption, and there she would lock him into the crumbling building, and ring a large bell to summon a swam of Crows that lived in the church. At first, these punishments would scare the young Jonathan greatly, but as time went on he found Harriet was correct in one thing. He found fear ebbing from him slowly, first of the crows and the church, then his grandmother, and finally of Bruce and his peers.

Yet at the age of eighteen, he was freed of his sadistic grandmother’s grasp, and began going to The University of Gotham, and found he had a natural affinity for Chemistry and Psychology, following in the footsteps of his parents. After graduating with a Doctorate in Psychology and Master’s Degree in Chemistry, he began teaching at The University of Gotham as a Psychology professor.

Year 1: The first year that Super Humans revealed themselves to the common people, Jonathan was still in college as a student, and finishing up his education. He had to admit, he was thankful to them for dealing with the parasitic alien threat, but felt about as much trust in them as he did towards the Government. He was a vocal supporter of Agencies rising up to create Contingency Plans in case our Hero's weren't actually Hero's after all.

Year 2: Jonathan was attending the Haly's Circus that fateful night that the Massacre took place. He didn't much care for social interaction or going out to events such as this, but a old friend named Oliver Kinsley pressured him into going out with him after having not seen each other in years. Both men survived, but Oliver was left far more traumatized than Jonathan. After they escaped the ensuing bloodbath, Jonathan bitterly told the frightened Oliver THIS was why he didn't like to go out.

Jonathan had officially finished his education at the University of Gotham this year, and believed that the emergence of the Injustice Gang was simply more proof that those with these special abilities were to be carefully registered and looked after. His disdain for the near God like beings running rampant on Earth only grows. He spends a year relaxing and vacationing after the completion of his Education.

Year 3: Jonathan begins his first year as a Professor of Psychology, and after the arrival of Batman to ferociously put down The Joker, Jonathan begins to consider Batman not much better than the powered freaks of nature roaming the earth, such as Superman and Green Lantern. Though Jonathan did not go to the Circus of Strange, nor did Oliver pressure him to go this time, Jonathan heard it was a innocent enough affair. Though he has disdain for both Joker and Batman, his attention is primarily on Amazo, a machine powerful enough to even take on the Justice League. Jonathan begins to put his Faith into Science to bring accountability to the Powerful.

Year 4: Jonathan is now in his second year of teaching, and is eager for the events of the New Year to unfold. He has been working feverishly on Chemistry in his off time, having discovered rough notes left by his Father on how to make a powerful compound anesthetic. Jonathan believes he can tweak this compound into some form of neutralizing agent powerful enough even to detain Super Humans.

Powers & Abilities

-Near complete deadening of his fear response.
-Mastery of Psychology and Chemistry.
-Increased Resilience to physical or emotional torture.

How is this character different?

I aim to explore Jonathan Crane as not only a villain, but as a person in general. I aim to make him an interesting antagonist as well as make him sympathetic as a character, and give realistic reason to his actions.

What is your goal with this character?

My goal is to allow a creative outlet and interact with other DC fans, and try and increase my skills at exploring and interpreting The Scarecrow character.

Sample Post

An explosion echoed through the halls of Blackgate Penitentiary, and a man with a black crisp suit stepped through the rubble that used to separate the prisoners in the recreational yard from the citizens of Gotham. Upon his head sat a burlap mask that seemed the spitting image of fear, and on all sides of the man poured thugs with pistols and shotguns poured into the compound. The prisoners stared dumbfounded at first, before the realization of what was happening dawned on them.

The prisoners nearly as once rushed toward the opening in the wall, and just as quickly armed security personal rushed into the yard, barking orders into radios. As the thugs exchanged gunfire with the security forces, the man with the man seemed serenely calm, walking with careful footsteps forward toward the door leading inside the building.

Inside the building he found nearly as much chaos as in the yard, the prisoners were rioting against the remaining guards, with a handful of thugs working quickly to shoot the cuffs off of the inmates. Yet as the man moved silently towards the armory, he found the door wide open with a group of six guards inside, frantically loading the weaponry in a panicked rush.

Yet as the incarnation of fear stepped into the room, the man turned to him slowly, as if sensing his presence. One man raised a assault rifle, shaking slightly as he aimed down the sights. The Scarecrow chuckled darkly, and a chill ran up the spine of the men closest to him. The Scarecrow slowly closed the door, locking it as he did. Yet as the oldest and most grizzled of the men stepped forward, pointing a shotgun, he snarled to the man in the suit.

“You won’t get away with, freak! You want us to be scared of you..? Because we’re not!”

“Oh..?” replied the Scarecrow, clenching his fists and allowing a yellow aerosol mist to shoot forth from a contraption on his wrists. As the air in the room began to get heavier and darker, the mans cold and calm voiced seemed to ring through the ears of his victims.

“If you aren’t yet, you will be…”

Finally for the men trapped in the room with him, darkness descended over them, and demons overtook their minds.

Some notes that I can tell:

As I will writing Jinx and the Fearsome Five (and to an extent Queen Bee), I don't believe I set up Psimon on the roster. Perhaps some revising would be a good thing to do with this or I can try to figure a way to work with this (perhaps make him Jinx's superior or something).

If accepted, I'm sure we'll have plenty to talk about if you want involvement with the Fearsome Five down the road.

Well this is my best attempt at a Fate app...the origin and sample are a work in progress but I like what I've got.

| Identity | - Jared Stevens-Fate
| Origin & Backstory |
[ Pre-Year One]

In the late fifties a tomb was discovered in Egypt that pre-dated any known Pharaoh. This led to several years of research by Dr. Kent Nelson, the man that had discovered the tomb. By the mid sixties Nelson had breached nearly the entire tomb save for one chamber which, Nelson thought, contained the Pharaoh he had been searching for, Nabu the Wise. As Nelson and his team worked their way into the tomb reports began to rise of grave-robbery within the camp instigating an impromptu investigation. On the day that Nelson finally breached the tomb his financial partner reveled that he was behind the robberies and pushed Nelson aside in order to gain access to the vast riches that he expected to be within. A mistake that would cost the man his life. Once the noxious fumes had cleared and Nelson was the last man standing a golden helmet, cloak and amulet began speaking to Nelson saying that only he was worthy of the vast amount of knowledge that it contained. It was later discovered that the voice was indeed that of Nabu the Wise.

[Year -One]

Twenty after Nabu chose to impart his vast knowledge of the occult to Nelson, he took the mantle of Doctor Fate and began working behind the scenes fighting occult threats to human society. That same year Jared Stevens was left on the doorsteps of St. Mary’s Orphanage in Metropolis. Stevens would spend the entirety of his childhood enamored with the idea of superheroes closely following the careers of the Justice League members. When he turned eighteen he left the orphanage in the hopes to pursue his dream of becoming like those he idolized. Jared quickly fell into the wrong crowd and became a mercenary for hire, leaving the country in time to miss Sta’rros assault. He would spend the next few years learning different martial arts and becoming proficient in throwing weapons.

[Year-Two]

In the early 2000’s Jared was contacted by a mysterious benefactor promising him a vast fortune in exchange for what appeared to be a simple task. The benefactor ended up being and aged and decrepit Kent Nelson. Nelson charged Stevens with the retrieval of a golden helm, cloak and amulet in exchange for and exorbitant amount of money of his choice. Naturally Jared accepted and departed to find the items he was charged to find. The job itself only took six months to find and return back to Nelson. The trouble started when Jared handed the items back to Dr. Nelson. Without warning a demon calling himself Mordu, a mortal enemy of Doctor Fate, appeared through a teleportation spell placed on the helmet. The demon made quick work of Nelson and his wife Inza. In a desperate attempt to defeat this otherworldly foe, Jared took the amulet in hand and attempted to use it as a weapon. While the would be assault did drive Mordu away it also severely damaged his arm. Without thinking Stevens wrapped the cloak around his arm to stop the bleeding, he could never had imagined that doing so would have mystical side effects. Nabu spoke to the mercenary telling him that he was the next worthy soul to understand the knowledge that Nabu would impart.
[Year-Three]

After melting the helmet down into the equivalent of a short sword and four ankh shaped throwing daggers Stevens adopted the moniker Fate, in remembrance of the fallen hero, Jared began his long journey home. The next few years would be unknown to Fate, but he planned to use this new power to the best of his ability.

| Character Notes | -While this I taken from a mid 90’s version of the character (who by the way doesn’t wield the same powers as his Golden Age counterpart) the I will add some of the more basic powers of the original while still trying to keep with his unique style.
| Powers & Abilities |: Skilled Magi- While he doesn’t rely solely upon his skills in magic Stevens has proven himself to be more than capable in wielding the powers of both Order and Chaos (Magic within the Order spectrum, coming from places such as heaven, contain things such as barriers and spells that generally aid the caster, while those within the Chaos spectrum, coming from Hell, contain spells intended for damage.)
Telekinesis- Jared mainly uses this power manipulate his Ankh shaped throwing knives
Illusion Casting- Due to his training with the Kent and Inza Nelson as well as his connection with Nabu’s helmet and amulet, Stevens is able to see through and cast illusions with ease.
Superhuman Strength
Superhuman Endurance

| How is this character different? |- Aside from being a different incarnation of Fate and Nabu, I wanted to change the perspective of the way Doctor Fate is looked at and Stevens (I think) is the best way to do it.

| What is your goal with this character? |-To challenge myself with a character that is outside my comfort zone as well as give a new outlook to a familiar character.
