Video Game Discussion Time: Rails in sonic games, why are they there?

What I mean is, in places such as sonic adventure 2, and such 3D games, Why are there rails in all those places, sometimes floating in midair, or a mass of them all along the way sonic is happening to travel. Or even places they don't belong.

Who is going around building these things, and why?

So who wants to start us off, with what they think?

I think I played a sonic game with these rails. My guess is that Sonic is a celebrity and he plans out where these rails are going to be way in advance, and probably pays for them, just so he can ride on them and show all his fans how cool he is.

Okay, sure, but what about places where fans would be unable to see him?

The real question here should be how tails is able to fly like his two tails are helicopter blades.... All they'd do is wrap around one another so there really is no explanation for this.

Where does eggman get the resources to build all those things?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, the rails thing started in adventure 2, yes? Well, regardless, the rails can be explained by Sega partnering up with soaps so they could advertise them, and, use a new platforming element in the game. Sadly, the soaps shoes fad fell flat, unlike the rail element, which I happen to find nice at times.

I want to say there was some rails in adventure 1 but I could be wrong.

I thought he was getting governmental loans for science and then lied about his shit to start getting his resources... maybe he's also getting private investors, hoping that his plans would succeed? Or maybe those resources were from junkyard and painted nicely... or maybe they are resources gathered from slaves in private mines that he bought or some shit(he is evil after all).

He could be explained with theories... But tails...

Wait, soaps was an actual shoe company?

Yes. It started a fad in the late nineties-early 2000's, called soaping, which was basically grinding on rails and doing tricks with the shoes. Soaps went dormant and got bought out by Heelys I believe. They incorporated the grinding function into their wheel shoes, but it either didn't work out, or I haven't heard much of it.
