[OOC] The Sinners

The setting is modern day NYC (or another large bustling city with a lot of bad neighborhoods and gang violence). The RP will follow "The Sinners" a gang made up of seven individuals that each take on a nickname of one of the seven deadly sins. At first, everything is normal, but then a huge gang war breaks out (think "Warriors" movie but instead of one gang being the target, everyone is out for everyone else) and during a large fight in an abandoned building, there's an explosion. Black gas is released throughout the building and everyone inside is knocked out. After awakening, our characters, and the other gangs there, wake up feeling sick. Some of them die, others go crazy, but for a select few (probably 50 or so others besides our characters) they come to realize they have abilities. So what happens?

Well, everything goes back to how it was before, but with powers now. The gang members with powers use them to commit crime, fight other gangs, and other such things. Our characters will, unlike the other gangs, where only a few people got powers, all have received a power that corresponds with the sin they're named after in some way.

The RP will start on the evening that the fight is supposed to take place on, and our characters will be getting prepared for the upcoming war.

Now lets get this out of the way, the list of sins and their corresponding RP'er

This isn't going to be first come first served, I'll leave this open for awhile and after getting CS applications for each role, I'll decide who I believe is the best character fit for that role. Speaking of CS, here's the template

So, for the second to last section, it's going to work like this. My character is going to be the "founder" of the sinners, so for "how you joined the sinners", I want you to create a basic scenario of how your character came to meet mine and then join the newly found gang.

And for the last section, personal arc, I want you guys to write up a short summary of what a possible personal story arc could be for your character. I want each of our characters to have some time in the "spotlight" so to speak, to let them become more fleshed out and feel important to the story.

Appearance:

Personality: Sloth is, as her name would suggest, lazy. She's lazy to the point that she can sometimes be more of a detriment to the gang than an asset and leader as she is supposed to be. So for the most part, she can be found generally wasting time with pointless gaming, sleeping, and other such lazy habits, but she has a sort of switch in her head. Whether she's lazy cause she's conserving energy or not is a debate amongst all who know her for the simple point that she is somewhat of a genius and great fighter. When she flips her switch, she goes from being a useless person, to a true leader that is at the front of the group and making sure everyone stays focused. Once it's done, she goes back to her lazy attitude, sometimes even having someone else carry her back for putting in so much effort.

Abilities: As stated previously, Sloth is not only strong, but she's smart as well. She can make quick decisions and exploits weaknesses fairly well, whether it be in strategy, or actual fighting. She is good at fighting one on one because she's skilled in several martial art forms, and she's also pretty good with computers. However, she uses her wits, reflexes, and strength, mainly to just play video games and be a general bum.

Power: So, originally I had sloth slated as basically just superman with the drawback of having to sleep for 15 minutes for every minute she uses her super human abilities, but instead I'm opting for this.

Sloth's power is the ability to create a second body. This body is a mass of black energy (similar to the gas that infects everyone) that takes a humanoid shape, but it can shift it's shape to form blade arms and basically can just shift the mass of it's body to create weapons and other effects. The drawback is that Sloth herself falls unconscious, as she's actually taking direct control of this second body. It's basically a shape-shifting monster body she controls, but her real body is left vulnerable, so if she gets attacked when she's using this ability, it will be interrupted and she can't use it until she can stop her new attackers and get back into the second body.

How you joined the sinners: Sloth is the creator of the sinners. She has a multitude of reasons for creating the sinners. She wants money, she wants power, she wants to be a kingpin of sorts in their home city, and she wants to be at the top, but it's obviously not her true reason. Whatever the reason for her starting the sinners is, it's not something that she's just going to divulge to anyone.

Personal Arc: I'm leaving this blank, as this will also tie into to major story arc. I will say this, the reason for Sloth creating the sinners will be revealed during this arc.

So, this CS fill out might seem a little bare bones, but I did this purposely because I want to have character develop and reveal their nature and background throughout the RP. Since this will be character driven, I want the characters to be fleshed out and grow as we RP everything out and become "people" if you get what I mean.

So, with this all done, the OOC is set and I'll be waiting for more character submissions.

Name: Dresdin Slim
Title: Pride
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Appearance:
An adolescent in his prime, whose black, curly locks are just barely able to cover his almond shaped green orbs if he’d flatten it. His sharp face, the gentle stubble across his chin and his ever so gentle smile adorn his appearance. Dresdin has no added tattoo’s or piercings to his body, because he finds such things disgusting in the sense of it ruining the human body.
Pride isn’t bulky nor extremely thin, he’s quite the regular bloke with a slight hint of muscle from the general work-out he got as a gang-member, he finds excessive training an absolute disgrace towards his own body.

The young man usually dresses himself in really light clothes, a white shirt and a checkered jacket, faded denim pants which are just a bit too tight for him to begin with. His whole attire is specifically made for him, and he’s quite fond of it.

Personality:
Pride is among one of the most cynical, narcissistic youth, who deliberately hides it well. There are reasons for that, a man needs his connections to grow and become more powerful, something he actively desires. Now Dresdin works well with others on a superficial level, his thoughts can be completely somewhere else while he talks to someone, because he just doesn’t find it interesting. A lot of his actions are justified by a simple rule; if it’s wrong, it was his unconscious acting out what was necessary. Deliberately hiding whatever it is he could do wrong, Dresdin is obsessively with keeping things the way he wants them to be.

While seemingly uninterested by most affairs around him, Dresdin has a great sense of charm and is fond of artistic behavior. Spending most of his free time admiring other things in silence, attempting to see the beauty in it. While not much of a leader nor a follower, Pride is more the voice that wants to be heard due to his unhealthy obsession with how good he actually is.

Abilities:
Pride has an amazing eye for detail, spotting small changes within a matter of seconds and re-adjusting his behavior accordingly. Dresdin is a rather charismatic figure, even though he’s filled with merely self-admiration, due to his constant attempts at hiding it.
Pride knows a great deal about fire-arms and is proficient at using them, not hesitating in the slightest to ever use one.

Power: (What your power is)
Pride his power is a fairly simple one, he has the ability to change his appearance according to what someone else idolizes and wants to see in that situation. Pride himself knows every detail about how he looks as he’s transformed, and has full control over all of his features, giving him the ability to make adjustments to the altered him.
The backlash of the power is a severe one, in which the usage of the power steadily removes the mental image of how Dresdin really looks to himself. The longer the usage of the power, the heavier the ‘amnesia’ becomes.

How you joined the sinners:
Dresdin’s simple hunger for admiration from others led him on the streets, while a rather ruthless lone wolf at the start, Dresdin soon found his eyes catching sight of ‘Sloth’. Perhaps it was her appearance, or how her behavior perfectly fit her nickname, something caught his attention. Or perhaps it was the idea that he could actually achieve something in this organization of ‘sinners’. Seeing the art in upholding the image of ‘Pride’ in a group of seven, Dresdin became part of the group for the sole reason of gaining influence among the streets and becoming a symbol of admiration for others.

Personal Arc:
Dresdin was a Grade-A student for almost the entirety of his life, minus the small depression where he was a Grade-B student. The adolescent was from his birth on stimulated to be the very best when it came to school. This soon developed into an obsession with perfection, both with himself and his work. Cynicism came with the years as people just didn’t live up to his expectations no matter what they did, causing Dresdin to become frustrated with his ‘imperfect’ surroundings.

It was his cold attitude that brought him onto the streets as a lone wolf, someone who studied the actions of gangs and liked the idea of it. The fighting was senseless and beyond his comprehension, which gave him a feeling of satisfaction. Living on the streets as someone who would take out the ‘weak link’ among groups, gave him a thrill that he would never truly be able to replicate otherwise.

Name: Beathan Gillespie (originally lied and told Sloth he was called Jonathan Bishop)

Best visual is to think of him as a male who looks more like the vocaloid Rin. His hair is much longer than Len's and he loves hair clips.

Joni is not much taller than an average 14 year old. He still hasn't had his growth spurt yet. Don’t mention it or you will tick him off. He has very straight, sleek black hair that he often decorates with one or two simple colored hair clips (refer to picture). If that is weird, consider this - he has the brightest blue eyes you have ever seen for someone with black hair.

His outfits are always simple – a shirt (with or without a collar), jeans or pants, a pair of gloves and a jacket or coat. He will always wear a coat even when it is blazing hot. Somehow he doesn't seem to feel the heat much. Hats are his must have accessory and boy does he splurge on them. He has the largest collection of beanies, trilbies, fedoras, berets, hogans and panamas most have ever seen. The only other accessory he uses is a simple triple braided leather bracelet with a metal plate. The phrase – Quid Novi (what’s new?) is etched on it.

Personality

Joni does not say much. He simply listens and follows when it pleases him to do so. Don’t worry about him complaining. He welcomes everything not associated with his home or his parents. No matter how doting parents are there will come a time when things start to feel suffocating. Whatever upsets him seems to be ignored. It isn't. He is too use to be bottling things in. Anything is okay as long as he can fit into the group. Sadly all that emotional suppression adds to the pile of on unanswered (and often misguided) frustration and bitterness he has been keeping to himself. Only small hints of what he truly feels inside ever surfaced prior to the “incident”.

According to him he has only ever lost it once...

That is what he always says when provoked beyond a certain limit prior to the incident...

He never eluded to it nor states how horrible it was. Not hints whatsoever. Just a "you-have-to-take-my-word-for-it" kind of hush-hush tone.

What's up with this quiet kid and his "you don't want to provoke me" stance?

Abilities:

Joni never had the luxury to explore outside his apartment much. Even at home he isn't allowed to engage in more "dangerous" activities like cooking or origami. So his skill set is limited to what he actually is permitted to do - juggling rubber balls, searching for information online, drawing and photo manipulating on photoshop, shopping compulsively online, bidding on ebay, keeping tabs on his credit card bills (he has been asked not to overshoot his monthly supplementary credit card limit; hard to believe he can given it is in the range of 15,000-20,000 a month), finding websites to download illegal movies, roleplaying, playing chess against himself, quoting the bible and actually sketching and painting on canvas.

He loves books and has an encyclopedic memory. He was so happy when e-books were invented. At least his parents can stop freaking out about him reading. They keep hovering close by whenever he reads as if they were worried he might get dangerous ideas or something... They always rather read to him or have him listen to an audio book.

Powers:
A form of Haemokinesis which encompasses the following sub-abilities (and of course limited to them): -

Blood Acid Generation
Joni’s blood is so toxic that it can literally eat through metal. A tiny of bit of his blood mixing with yours will cause a whole world of pain. The acidity of his blood results in him having a lower than average blood clot factor.

Blood Generation and Reabsorption
The slightly higher than average rate prevents Wrath from fatiguing too quickly. This skill allows him to store inhuman amounts of blood within his body. Still it is not fast enough for him to make up for severe blood loss. When pushed too hard he may kill himself. Perhaps it is a good thing that he can reabsorb some of his blood back into his body even though it is much lesser than the amount he loss.

Blood Crystallization
This is crux of his attacks. Literally he can use his blood to form a variety of haemokinectic constructs. The strength of these constructs depends on the duration of the battle and the amount of blood he sacrificed during that period. He can only control the blood of his enemies to a certain degree, but it isn’t always successful. How effective he can crystallize his opponent’s vital fluid depends on his final sub-ability…

Heart Seeker
When focused enough, Wrath can home in on a target’s heartbeat. Once he is able to pick out the rhythm, he is able to increase the pressure to the point where it bursts out. The free flowing blood is now his to control. The huge drawback is that when trying to find his opponent’s pulse he leaves himself open to attack.

Preferred Fighting Style: Something quick, fast, messy and dramatic. Lots and lots of glorious blood shed.

Blame League of Legends and Dota 2. =.= They always make me think of things as concrete abilities with a name. Bleah..

How You Joined the Sinners:

Beathan had been following Sloth for sometime hoping she didn't noticed him following her. Luckily for him most of the people there were in a pretty good mood especially when he promised he would be back with snacks and drinks. Soon it became more of a ritual. He would always be where they usually hang out. Sometimes he would have snacks, sometimes he wouldn't. Things came to a point that he became a peripheral member of the group. Enough of a member to be asked (a dare perhaps) to go with them to a gang fight that fateful day...

Personal Arc

Being home schooled was not that fun especially when your mom and dad are not home half the time. Joni's obsession with clothes is probably a symptom of someone who clearly had too much time and money on their hands. Even though Joni is allowed to go to school for now his parents made sure he knew that this is only a temporary arrangement. Maybe that's why he is so intrigued by someone as 'carefree' as Sloth.

Ever since that weird day in the building Wrath has been missing. He isn't attending classes anymore nor is he home. Where is he?

This is essentially an arc that will tell you more about Beathan. It might help you understand why he might interact with your characters the way he does from this point onward.

Wrath can't resist bringing his new friend to the base. Don't touch, don't stare and don't tease. He feels awkward enough...

Other Facts:

1) Don’t ever call Wrath Beathan. He hates that name, and he would be happier if you believed his actual name is Jonathan.
2) He was home schooled because his parents felt he was too sickly to be in school. He just started taking some classes in a public school this year. Some of the classes include Art, Music and Math.
3) His mom works as a curator for a museum. His dad owns an art gallery.
4) He is an only child.
5) Nothing upsets him more than being singled out by anyone. He feels awkward enough as it is.
6) He is not allowed to close his bedroom door much less lock it. Worst still even at the age of 16 he must have a baby sitter or guardian around whenever his parents aren't home.
7) Beathan suffered severe nerve damage due to the increased toxicity of his blood. Most of his body feels numb (like he is wrapped in thick layers of cotton) and he is no longer able to move quite a number of important muscles in his face (especially those relating to facial expression). In other words he is truly poker faced…

Phantom! If we can't find anyone else, would you like me to create another character too? Since we seem to have Sloth, Wrath, Pride, Lust and Greed now. I can create Gluttony or Envy.

Only Wrath, Pride, and Sloth have been applied for (and only sloth is assured) so you can apply for whichever role you want. It would be easier for us if you avoided wrath and pride, but if you want to compete for those roles that'd be fine.

Thing is for lust, the chick I had in mind wasn't your typical voluptuous/sexy chick like you'd see in FMA or other lusty animu girls. She'd be more so one of those bubbly, flirty, gets-around-quite-a-lot types, to keep that note simple haha. Would be interesting to see lust be a male here though, since every sin-based plot I've ever seen uses a girl.

Angel / Greed

Name: Angel (Angél de Cervántes)*
Title: Greed
Age: 20
Gender: Male

Appearance:


A young man with short, parted chestnut hair and slender brown eyes, who wears a suit - white top with black bottoms. (Gotta keep that air of professionalism.) He's often found smirking when not wearing his mask, which kind of makes him look like a douchebag sometimes, but that's okay. He's also relatively athletic in that he likes to run, but his upper arm strength is pretty void.

Personality:
A man married to luck and money, with vodka and gambling as his mistresses. He flocks to games of chance and anything that would earn him a solid coin, even if it puts others in danger, depending on his gain and how close he is to those "others." He helps other people only if it benefits him as well. Despite his passion for gambling, Angel is also ataraxic; he's relaxed about nearly everything and gets things done without rush. That doesn't prevent him from being blunt or calling out someone's bullshit, however, as he'll make it known when something or someone bugs him. Side note, he's also the type to loot from fallen enemies if it's not too chaotic.

(Background:
Angel came from a rich family; they're not noble, but his parents had more than just plain connections with some aristocrats. They obsessed over their only son becoming a doctor and were convinced of that fate when he excelled in chemistry. But their love for Angel came from his prospective rich future for them, rather than for Angel's own well-being. Being as lax as he is, he never took their neglect to heart and instead used it to his advantage to take his talent to the street for some dirty drug dealing once he learned how to make them, without them knowing. He soon became known where he lived for selling "angel dust" - phencyclidine (PCP) - on the street and always carries some around with him, though he doesn't actually do drugs himself.)

Abilities:
Being well-rehearsed in patient, bluff-based games like poker and experiencing his fair share of false deals, Angel is apt in reading others' intentions (and movements), whether they're lying or hiding something, and in reflexes when it comes to fighting/dodging. Additionally, he's crafty; he's not perfect at this by any means, but Angel is experienced with chemistry - he uses it, after all, to manufacture his own drugs and miniature explosives. (He carries around a couple of "jingle bombs", small explosive bells barely strong enough to char someone's hand, mostly used as a defensive tactic if someone were to try and flank/mug him.)

Power: Dice Roll
Requires his mask to be worn. Depending on the roll of his die (the higher the better), an item in need is materialized temporarily, made from the same type of gassy black energy Sloth's double is. Example: if someone is coming after him with the intent to kill, and he rolls a six, an anchor is summoned from the sky and splat! A five would probably bring a gatling gun with limited ammo - but since his aiming is terrible, if Dresdin were nearby it'd summon in front of him instead. A two would probably be a rotten egg. (The rolls will already be predetermined/randomized from the GM for moderation.)

Constructs vanish when he either rolls again or removes his mask (so he's more likely to keep something on field if it's useful. The longer he wears the mask with this skill in use, the dizzier he gets; the time it takes for him to recover from the dizziness is equal to the length he wore it. It's enough to induce vomit and eventually knock him out if he wears it for too long.

How you joined the sinners:
Angel's druggie patrons tend to be streetgangs, so when word got around about some "Sloth" was in the process of forming one, Angel approached in hopes of making a quick buck. But something about her clicked. She strove for both money and power, and though she was lazy, she had the smarts for carrying out her ideals - something which intrigued Angel immensely. Perhaps with Sloth and other prospective members, he could actually make a buck or two being in her gang, rather than trying to make money off other gangs. And maybe he could learn a thing or two about how to actually fight.

Personal Arc: WIP
(Kind of juggling between having it be something about figuring out some story behind his mask [I'm leaving that kind of open right now?], or having his drug-making skills become integral to keeping them alive/saving them from something. I'll come back to this later haha.)

*Side note: Though his real/full name is Hispanic, he does prefer to be called by the English word/pronunciation "angel." He's been bugged too many times by people who can't get the accents right, so he just tells everyone to call him Angel lololol.

Personal Arcs don't have to be based in a characters past, meaning that if your personal arc is just a situation the gang finds themselves stuck in and your character saves them and gets some strong character development, then it's fine.

The only real problem I have with this character is his power. I think the power itself is a great concept, using gambling (what I always think of immediately when greed is mentioned) as a way to manifest objects to fight with. However, the problem is how to determine fair number roles. I mean, the only thing I can really think of is before each fight, you message me via pm, tell me how many times you roll, then I use a dice generator system to determine the rolls. It's not that I'd be opposed to this, but it just seems a little inefficient, unless you have a better idea?

I thought so @ determining fair number rolls. That was my main concern as well, since that could immediately come off as OP if it's not regulated, and I wouldn't want to bug with asking either, for your sake hahaha, as it would get tedious. It was the last thing I wrote on my CS and submitted it warily. Ah well, at least I got to chuck that out there for discussion. :)

I had some other ideas for an ability relevant to drug usage and one relevant to jinxing (as opposed to luck), but those aren't immediately tied to greed itself as it is to just his personality. Unless jinxing sounds like it would work (could work like Jinx from Teen Titan's ability)? I could build something off of that, with the mask/dizziness being the catalyst again, if that sounds all right with you. :) I'll update my CS again once I have something more concrete.

You know when going through the concept of sins, I read an article comparing Gluttony and Greed. Apparently Greed is the sin where you want more at the expense of others. A jinxing/hexing ability works in that sense. That or a corrosion/disintegration type ability.
