Okay, I'm done. Black Dogs are already a universally ‘canon’ race, I just changed the info I found around a bit to fit how I wanted it to be for the setting. Let me know if anything is written weirdly or if something needs to be changed. I left out some of the history too, which I’d like to use in the IC if the time comes.
Name: ‘Riza’
Appearance:Gender: Female
Age: 26
Race: Black Dog
Lore holds that Black Dogs, sometimes referred to as Hellhounds or Demon Dogs, are malevolent apparitions said to lead humans to their deaths. In truth, Black Dogs can be just as corporeal as every other earth walking beast in Blackbury, though the association these creatures have with death and the afterlife isn’t far off - in fact, they could easily be considered a canine version of the Grim Reaper.
Traditionally, Black Dogs are servants of death, able to sniff out the dying (both supernatural and human), to consume their souls, which they would then carry to the afterlife. They have no master, per se, as death is not technically a single person or entity, and were not created nor forged.. they simply exist. None other than servants, they act on supernatural instinct to seek out their targets, and driven by these instincts are mindless, existing only for the single, never-ending purpose of fulfilling their duty. Black Dogs cannot be harmed, cannot age, but are as natural and as essential to the world as the sun is to the earth.
Black Dogs have existed for as long as death has been a factor in this world, though in recent decades their behaviour has altered dramatically, most likely due to society and the modernisation of the human world (despite the fact that they are technically not of this earth, or this universe). Recently, some have even begun to grow consciousness, mimicking human ideals, forms and developing the ability to think for themselves - though the exact cause of such remarkable, seemingly impossible developments is unknown. Because of this, some have begun to integrate themselves into society, though Awareness gained this way takes decades to accomplish.
As well as acting as reapers, Black Dogs also instigate deals in which death can be avoided, though this is only a recent development implemented around the 1940’s, and is used exclusively by the mortal, supernatural races. Otherworldly deals can be made by supernatural beings who wish to cheat death.. for a price, and Black Dogs not only carry out these deals, but act as enforcers when arrangements are not followed through with.
-Supernatural blood, such as the blood of a vampire or werewolf, is extremely poisonous to Riza when ingested.
-All Black Dogs are immortal, intangible and invisible, and cannot be harmed or interacted with by anything manmade or supernatural. An infinite amount exist in the world, though they are not well known within the supernatural community due to the essential part they play in keeping the world in check. In this way, they could be considered more of a cosmic force than anything. However, in Riza’s case she is almost as vulnerable as the average household pet, having lost almost every quality that distinguishes her as a Hound. Only a small part of her original form still exists, hence her ability to shift into her original visage and retain a limited range of abilities.
-Most flesh wounds can heal over the span of a few hours, though this depends on their severity.
-Potentially fatal wounds will cause Riza to revert back to her natural form (if she is in her human form at the time), where she will be forced to remain until she has recuperated. Whilst she is sick or injured she is unable to shift back into her human form.
-Has retained her shape-shifting ability, healing ability, superhuman strength, agility, senses and endurance. She is also gifted with the innate capability to learn almost anything, which has come extremely handy in regards to self-defence.
Biography: Black Dogs are infinite, godly, and immortal. They exist to serve, and they fulfil their duties without error. They do not rest, and do not require it, though for all of their divinity and all of the influence they hold, it seems that even gods can fall. Riza is proof of that.
The specifics of the event are shady to Riza herself, which is understandable considering she had no real mind to remember it by. All she knows is that she must have come into contact with.. something, an unknown force, that she consumed - as was her duty - and then woke up human and naked in the snow somewhere in Sweden, where she experienced incredible, agonizing pain, at the same time aware of every sound, scent and emotion that one could experience at any given time. Her new senses overloaded, she collapsed in shock, and was later found by the man who owned the surrounding farms. She could not speak, as she had never learned how, and utilising her new mind and body came slowly and with much effort. She had no memory of who or what she was, who or what she had been, where she was, or where she had been, but the old man took to teaching her the basics of life and living, having quickly caught on to the fact that she was unschooled in such things. Though she looked to be at least twenty years of age, he raised her like a child, and she stayed with him for the next eight years of her life.
It took her years to accommodate to the various aspects of mundane life, even as a near adult, as though she had learned how to survive as a human, she still struggled to understand the thoughts, mannerisms and actions of other people. Her mind now matured into that of a young woman, her thirst for answers drove her away from her new home. It was difficult letting go, but her father understood, and she travelled across the sea in search of her origins. Long story very short, her quest took her, after many, many years, to Blackbury, where a not inconsiderable amount of digging led her to discovering what she once was – or at least, what the evidence has led her to believe she once was. Here, she was also able to unlock a number of her latent powers.
As of late Riza has been working tirelessly to keep herself on her feet, and though she is not technically considered a bounty hunter, she does what she can to get by. When she’s not out earning a wage this way, she will make Deals with supernaturals with a target on their back – though they have to fit a certain code for her to agree to help them. Teaming up with hunters is not unusual for her, and she has become known as a dependable yet temporary partner, often keeping contacts in the loop of their targets or possible threats.
Personality: Riza is quiet and calculating, though she isn’t always serious and has quite a number of smalls quirks. She considers her life to have truly started when she first gained Awareness, which was twenty years ago. She somewhat lacks empathy, though this does in no way mean she cannot feel, and she is still learning how to both display her emotions and understand the emotions of others. Humans and Supernaturals alike are still somewhat unusual to her, though the trepidation she holds towards certain races stems more from lack of interaction than anything. As she is still missing a lot of information about life and the world, she often busies herself with reading up on world history, and familiarising herself with different aspects of the world’s races, cultures and events. She is also fascinated by the simpler things such as electricity, and has been known to overindulge on the things she never needed as a Dog, such as large meals, coffee, sweets and of course, chocolate, which she consumes by the bucket load.
