Military capabilities: I'm taking a new turn on this one. People either list units or just numbers. Neither of those are particularly helpful. I want analysis See my below nation example for an example. Feel free to speculate about neighboring countries; if there is a discrepancy between your image of your nation and your neighbor's image, I'd rather work it out OOC than IC. Also, numbers still help.

History: Use good judgement as to length. As a general rule, things that happened in WW1 happened here except where their plausibility is made nil by our changes in event, but feel free to create events/interactions. If another player occupies the nation you're writing about (I'm writing about Denmark in my Sweden history, so naturally if a player takes Denmark I'll work with them), try to work out a mutually agreeable history. Also, pre-ww1 history is available on Wikipedia, but if you want to include it, by all means do.

Military Capabilities: L'Armée Populaire de la Commune de France has modern equipment and is largely motorized. However, organization and co-operation with other branches of the military is a problem.

The Armée de l'Air du peuple is the air arm of the Armées françaises. The aerial aspect of war was closely studied by the Commune's military minds after the civil war and has lead to a strong, medium-sized air force with modern equipment and well-trained pilots.

The Marine de libération du peuple has two main fleets, the Flotte de la Patrie in Marseilles and Flotte de la Normandie in Brest. The navy was severely weakened during the civil war and not much emphasis has been put into building new ships for the navy. The main purpose of the navy is to prevent landings into the southern and northern coasts

History: The Third Republic ended the way it began: defeated by German arms, and facing Communist revolution at home. In November of 1919 a revolutionary general strike was called by the CGT, paralyzing the country and causing the downfall of the bourgeois government. "The Party of Order" was not strong enough to put an end to the unrest and in the following months the "Establishment" were forced out of France by a coalition of leftist forces in a brief but brutal civil war. For the past 15 years the self-styled "Commune of France" has united behind a common platform of Syndicalist-Socialist consensus, headed by the ruling Comité de Salut Public. However, by 1936 the consensus that was resolved to rebuild the shattered country and defend the fruits of revolution from foreign menace is deemed as outdated by many critics, and there is a growing call for more radical policies. France is increasingly confident in its security and in its mission, but the French revolutionary tradition is varied, and it is unclear precisely which strands shall become dominant in the years to come.

Military capabilities: Shit, utter shit. The Russian army lacks money, morale, and nearly everyone dodges the draft. Russia needs an effective government with a good military policy in order to revive it.

History: A series of uprisings were organized by workers and peasants throughout the country, as well as by soldiers in the Russian army, who were mainly of peasant origin. Many of the uprisings were organized and led by democratically-elected councils called Soviets. The February Revolution overthrew the Russian monarchy, which was replaced by a shaky coalition of political parties that declared itself the Provisional Government. The Provisional Government proved unable to resolve many problems which had led to the February Revolution and in October a second revolution led by Vladimir Lenin marked the beginning of the Russian Civil War between the Bolsheviks and the White Movement. The Bolsheviks signed the treaty of Brest-Litovsk, that concluded hostilities with the Central Powers; Russia lost its Ukrainian, Polish and Baltic territories, and Finland by signing the treaty.

At the Congress of Omsk in April 1919, the White Generals agreed to form a united political front behind Alexander Kerensky and the remaining forces of the Provisional Government. The united White forces, joined by the kingdom of Finland, made considerable gains, but the Red Army was still too strong and well placed, dominating the Russian industrial heartland and transportation networks. But soon the German empire, fearing the success of a dangerous ideology, decided to intervene on behalf of the Whites in exchange for the recognition of the treaty of Brest-Litovsk.

By September 1921, both Moscow and St. Petersburg fell to the White forces and a new Russian Republic was established in the Moscow on October 12, with Kerensky as its first President.The newborn Russian Federation had to face many threats right after its birth, but managed to survive. Thanks to German mediation, the East Karelian national revolt was quelled with the signing of the Treaty of Tartu, which awared the region of Petsamo to the Kingdom of Finland, but prevented a full-scale war and kept East Karelia under Russian rule. Thanks to Kerensky's diplomatic efforts, Russia managed to establish good relations with most of the new countries that emerged from the Civil War, such as with the recognition of Japanese-backed Transamur in 1922.

In 1924, the shadows of another civil war threatened the country when the Minister of Defence Alexandr Kolchak tried to overthrow the government and seize power. However, the coup failed and the coupsters were killed and arrested, even if a few (Kolchak among them) managed to escape. Since then, the government enforced its grip on the country and struggled to improve its economy, devastated by the Civil War. For the past fifteen years the leading parties, the Social Revolutionaries and Kadets, have governed in an uneasy coalition under Kerensky, maintaining their power through electoral manipulation and a lack of serious political opposition. However, the worsening of the global economy have eroded the trust of the people and, in case of trouble, unknown forces could attempt to remove Kerensky from power and seize control of Russia.

Respectable Air Force: No (not yet anyway...)

Military Capabilities: The Royal Egyptian Army (REA) is very small and weak at 104,000 professional personnel in comparison with its much more powerful neighbours. The quality of equipment is usually below par, training isn't the best and generally backward technological advancement has meant that a modern military force has not been able to emerge as of yet. However, since its independence from the UK in 1922, Egypt has endeavoured to strengthen its military and has in recent years gained several military aircraft, allowing it to officially set-up the The Royal Egyptian Air Force (REAF). Pilots are still being trained but it is hoped that these aircraft will be able to take off with Egyptian pilots in the coming year. The Royal Egyptian Fleet (REF) has grown slightly since 1922 but is still cripplingly tiny at ten ships in total. REF mainly operates from Alexandria harbour - Egypt's main port city - and Port Sudan on the Red Sea which is a growing but promising port city. Overall, the Egyptian military is mediocre at best and requires a great deal of work if it is to become a respectable force capable of protecting the Egyptian homeland.

The Kingdom has been working closely with Hashemite Arabia and other free Arab nations to strengthen their military forces and forge closer military and diplomatic bonds. What is to come of this has yet to be seen.

History: During the Weltkrieg Egypt, which was under British control, was officially cut-off from the Ottoman Empire and the title of Khedive was officially changed to Sultan to emphasise this. Unfortunately the war did not go too well for Britain and Egypt found itself left in the lurch after the war. Or at least King Fuad I was. Despite Britain's defeat it attempted to maintain influence over Egypt which met with failure as Arab nationalism was on the rise and it all came to a crescendo in 1922 when the Egyptian people rose up and broke the chain of imperialism forever! Or so they thought.
Anyway, Britain officially declared Egypt a free, independent and sovereign nation in 1922, but maintained control over Egypt's external protection, Sudan and the Suez Canal which sparked great anger. King Fuad I was accused of treason by many for allowing Egyptian land to be seized like this and for Britain to continue meddling in Egyptian business, but there was little he could really do. Rumours abounded of how he was in cahoots with the British to create out of Egypt a failed state. So it was no surprise that when Britain underwent revolution in 1925 the Egyptians rose up again kicking out the foolish Fuad and seizing Egyptian land occupied by Britain. The much loved Abbas II rose to the throne and Egypt transformed from an Autocratic Monarchy to a Constitutional Monarchy. Then Deutschland came knocking on Egypt's door and apologised profusely, telling them that things had been going a tad bit too good for Egypt this last year so they have to ruin the mood a bit. Germany decided that it liked how the Suez Canal looked, and it was feeling a tad bit peckish, so it took it. Egyptians were angry, politicians were indignant and Abbas II shared in his people's anger, but there was little anyone could really do so they all got back to whatever it was they were doing before (smoking hashish mostly.)

Since 1925 and Abbas II's rise to the throne, Egypt has seen a great deal of progress. The country has become more centralised and various railway projects connecting the nation have been completed, though things are still far from perfect. The political landscape is very diverse with secular parties such as the Wafd, more religious organisations such as the Ikhwan Al-Muslimoon (Muslim Brotherhood) and other pan-Arabist, royalist, nationalist and more working together surprisingly well. King Abbas II has proven to be a very reform-minded monarch, encouraging investment in education and agriculture and greatly reforming the Egyptian legal system. Egypt has also become very close with other Arab nations, especially Hashemite Arabia. A Congress of Arab Nations is planning to meet in the coming months to discuss the future of Arabs in the free Arab nations as well as the fate of those still under Ottoman rule. Egypt recognises that the Ottoman Empire has greatly helped Egypt in the past, despite its imperialistic ways, and reconciliation rather than continued hostility is slowly becoming the more accepted way of dealing with the decaying Empire. Or at least that's what the state media has been propagating.

Respectable air force: Yes.
Military capabilities: The military doctrine of the Union of Britain puts great emphasis on naval superiority in home waters as well as providing escorts for commerce vessels which are the lifeline of the island nations. The army has a secondary role as the air force and the navy are thought to have a higher priority.

Army
The British Army is a mix of standing army units, home defense garrisons and local militias which provide a mobile reserve for the home defense garrisons. The standing army is rather small, but the manpower pool of Britain is great and a great number of divisions can be raised in a relatively short time should the need arise.

Navy
Despite the loss of many ships of the Royal Navy as the monarchists left for Canada, the Republican Navy is still one of the greatest navies of the world and one of the few navies of the world that employ aircraft carriers. The Republican Navy is the sole navy in Europe that can hope to take on the Kaiserliche Marine at sea. The Republican Navy, which is self-governing and largely self-financing, controls not only maritime defence, customs and the merchant marine, but also has a huge influence over shipbuilding, trade and foreign policy.

Air Force
The Republican Air Force is mainly tasked to defend the British airspace and not so much on fighting an aerial war in enemy skies. Still, the RAF does employ a significant number of strategic bombers under the RAF Strategic Bomber Command should the need arise to take the war to the enemy.

History: After the defeat of France the United Kingdom's war with Germany dragged on inconclusively for two years. In 1921 the stalemate was finally broken when Lloyd-George agreed to General Ludendorf's proposal for a "Peace with Honour". Under the terms of this treaty it was agreed that Britain would acknowledge Germany's gains from the war, whilst Germany would respect the Imperial possessions of the remaining Entente powers of Britain, Japan and Portugal. However, while Britain's overseas territories remained largely ordered and intact, the faith and support of the people in the Home Islands did not.

In 1925, disaster struck: a minor labour dispute in the coalfields of South Wales quickly escalated after troops were sent in to restore order. Following the French's example, a General Strike was called by the TUC to cripple the economy. When the government sent orders for the military to quell the unrest, many troops deserted to the side of the strikers, which was accompanied by a major naval mutiny. After six weeks of rioting, looting, and pamphleteering on a massive scale, the Royal Family was evacuated to Canada, followed by most of the country's leading politicians and large property owners.

Following the fall of the British government, a provisional government of revolutionary groups dissolved both Houses of Parliament, and declared that political authority in the "Union of Britain" would pass to a new Congress of Trade Unions.

Following the revolution, 1926 saw the formative Congresses of Socialist Britain, with advocates of various positions coming together to hammer out the framework of the new state. What resulted was a compromise between the factions that enshrined the principals of decentralization, co-operativism, and isolationism. This resulted in the establishment of locally elected councils as the main organ of government (supervised by the national direction of the CTU), a dominant public sector, and a diplomatic stance that emphasized self-defense and national self-reliance above all else.

The British people are currently secure on their island, content to build socialism in political and economic isolation, protected by the strong Republican Air Force and Navy. Additionally, each county is protected by its own popular militia who act both as a reserve military and the police.

Military capabilities: Since the war with Brazil and the Federation of Paraguay and Uruguay La Plata has had the most powerful army in South America despite most of the soldiers being sent home after the war, they are all still ready to be recalled at a moment’s notice. Their navy is La Plata’s pride; it is the largest and most advanced in South America. The air force is fairly new and only really used as help for the navy.

History: From 1880 Argentina enjoyed a period of economic boom and great prosperity based on the export of wheat and cattle, allowing the nation to achieve a moderate industrialization. Argentina went to war with Bolivia in 1933, ostensibly over the attempted Bolivian annexation of Paraguay, which marked the beginning of the Great South American War. In 1934 Argentinean troops won a series of victories against the Bolivian forces and easily evicted them from occupied Paraguay, but in response Brazil declared war on Argentina, and her armed forces a rapid advance to the La Plata river, overrunning the tiny nation of Uruguay in the process. However, the Brazilian advance was halted at the La Plata as the war got bogged down in trench systems. In late 1934, Argentinean forces inflicted a further another series of devastating defeats on the Bolivians, and Bolivia was forced to sue for peace before the close of the year. This victory meant that Argentina was free to focus on Brazil, and they began a counterattack in 1935, which succeeded in routing the Brazilian troops and ejecting them into Curitiba. With her home lands threatened and her forces in disarray Brazil sued for peace.Shortly after this great success the governments of Paraguay and Uruguay were "federated" with Argentina, creating the Union of La Plata.
In 1936, La Plata is still facing problems, not least that the people of Paraguay and Uruguay don’t feel any connection to the Union and nationalism is ripe. Also an already resurgent Bolivia has begun to rearm, and Brazil’s currently weak government looks set to give way to a landslide victory by Getulio Vargas’ progressives.
