[OOC] Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Second Coming

Evangelion is one of my favorite animes and I really want to try to get a RP started. If you don't know anything about the show still show an interest. I have some background information below.

Now, in short, Neon Genesis Evangelion is an anime dating from the mid-nineties that is among the most influential in history, changing the face of anime forever. The original was completely incredible. and the Rebuild films are, by some margin, my favourite films ever made (as well as being my favourite anime). Seriously, if you haven't seen Rebuild, watch it! Although you mightn't want to do that just yet, so you can hold off a minute. So, a guide on terminology and general things about the series.

The Second Impact

The Second Impact was an event that fundamentally changed the face of the Earth. Occurring in 2000 and centred on Antarctica, the devastation unleashed by this killed three billion of the Earth's ten billion people, and another two billion died in the massive-scale resource wars that followed. The world's oceans became an orange-crimson due to vast amounts of nuclear, chemical and eldritch contaminants released in the blast, its oxygen content lowering significantly, rendering it uninhabitable to life; millions of species were wiped out, the entire continent of Australia becoming a blasted hellscape and Antarctica simply disappearing off the map entirely. The world's oceans rose, rendering most of the world's coastline uninhabitable, and the horrors of the mass starvations and great wars that followed were never forgotten. What nobody, save for the highest echelons of NERV and the enigmatic members of SEELE know, is that it was caused by experiments upon Adam, the First Angel, housed in a classified facility in Antarctica; after the testing of experimental anti-Angel weaponry on Adam, it broke free of its restraints, massacring the research team before losing control of its S2 engine and destroying itself, triggering Second Impact - and, as some claim, the beginning of the end of mankind...

Angels

Mysterious entities, very little is functionally known of the Angels. What is known is that they are veritable gods, projecting AT (originally standing for Absolute Territory, since more appropriately re-adapted by NERV to stand for Absolute Terror) Fields which render them nigh-invulnerable to conventional weaponry; the only reliable way of destroying an Angel is to deploy something with its own AT Field, which cancels out the Angel's field and renders it susceptible to damage. They can take many forms, varying from skyscraper-sized humanoid abominations to giant airborne crystalline prisms to billions of microrganisms lead by a single hive mind; however, all have the ability to deploy an AT field, and all have a single 'heart' that can be destroyed. Doing so destroys the Angel's AT Field, which binds the Angel together, causing the Angel's physical form to completely destroy itself and liquefy into Angel's Blood. Lastly, the most unique component of an Angel is its S2 Engine - powering its AT Field and allowing many of them to change shape, the S2 Engine is an organ outputting what is believed to be infinite power.

Evangelions(EVA

Experimental weapons created by mankind for countering the Angels following the Second Impact, the Evangelions are eighty-metre-tall cyborgic humanoid weapons systems. Each costs hundreds of billions of dollars to produce, and each is incredibly powerful, knocking over entire skyscrapers in a single punch and capable of running at speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour. They appear mechanical, but are actually living organisms in a suit of powered armour, which simultaneously makes them better-protected and limits their power. They can engage and destroy Angels in hand-to-hand combat, or can use large-scale firearms, typically infantry-style assault rifles and handguns vastly up-sized for use by the eighty-metre-tall Evangelions; they are also universally armed with at least one 'Progressive Knife', the edge of which vibrates at an extreme frequency to enhance cutting power. They are piloted via 'Entry Plugs', long rounded cylinders where the pilot sits breathing LCL, a liquid substance containing enough oxygen to continue the function of the human body while offering enhanced shock resistance and reducing risk of lung collapse during high-G Evangelion manoeuvres. They require constant power sources, limiting their combat effectiveness; their emergency internal batteries are only capable of outputting five minutes of combat-level power before shutting down. One of the most unique - and unfortunate - features of the Evangelions is the restrictions on piloting; due to the effects of the Second Impact, only those born after the Second Impact can pilot them; this is further complicated by the extreme psychic stress that an Evangelion puts on the pilot, which severely exacerbates existing personality problems. Lastly, NERV's greatest secret, the most classified piece of information regarding the Evangelions, is their origin - the organic components of the Evangelions are, in fact, cloned Angels, utilising the roughly humanoid "Adam" as their template and with several mechanical components.

Tokyo-III

Tokyo-III: A massive fortress city, specifically designed to resist Angel attack, Tokyo-III was constructed following the destruction of Tokyo during the Second Impact. Extraordinarily heavily militarised, nearly every building is heavily-armoured, and the entire city's above-ground portion can be retracted underground into the 'Geofront', an immense cavern buried beneath nearly a kilometre of armour plating. Unbeknownst to most of the city's inhabitants, it was actually constructed around the containment facility of Lilith, the captured Second Angel; should any Angel unite with it, it would cause the Third Impact, destroying mankind.

There are many worlds, and some run parallel. This is one such world. In this world, Rei, Shinji and Asuka never existed. Instead, there was another group of EVA pilots. Another group who stood between mankind and utter destruction as the world slowly began to burn around them. This is their story.

Now, as you may have gathered, this is an Alternate History of Neon Genesis Evangelion; one way of putting it would be that it's our own version of the Rebuild of Evangelion movies. That is, so to speak, the same basic events, but the changes in character lead to different outcomes, and ultimately, a divergent plotline. However, the key difference here is that we've completely changed the characters. In short, Shinji, Rei, Asuka, Gendo, Misato and every other character in the series never existed - they may have parallels, but that's it. However, there are other changes, and some things have stayed the same. A short list:

Differences:

-As mentioned above, ALL of the characters are different. Some will have parallels (for instance, the EVA pilots will have an equivalent to Misato, and there will be a director at NERV to replace Gendo), but none will appear in this RP for any reason.
-The EVAs will be different; they will share the numerical designations of canon EVAs, but will appear completely differently, and may have completely different backstories and purpose. For example, Unit 02 may not be for physical combat it may be for long range weaponry.
-EVA's do not have to be plugged in at all times to function. They have a 12 hour battery life, and are always charging when not in a mission.
-SEELE does not exist, however there is a SEELE counter part. This PERSON wants the destruction of all humanity, in order for Humans to reach the next level of evolutoon

-All organizations are the same, Except SEELE
-The Vatican Treaty is in affect, meaning limited spaces available

Rules:
1. Don't God-Mod. "Asuka punched stupid Shinji" is not an acceptable post. "Asuka swung a punch at stupid Shinji" is an acceptable post. See the difference? With the alternative, you give the other person a chance to choose how they will react.

2. The above is not sanction to avoid everything that your opponent throws at you. Take some hits, and your opponent will do in kind. Generally, though, try and sort out how the fight will end, instead of just trying to make your character win.

3. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES are you to EVER kill off someone else's character, unless you have THEIR CONSENT to do so.

4. Be respectful to everyone and have fun.

5. Swearing is allowed, don't go overboard like Samuel L. Jackson

6. Romance is allowed and encouraged, but there are two rules. Firstly, keep it realistic - love at first sight doesn't work, even between teenagers. It'll take time. Secondly, keep it PG-13. I can't stress this enough. If things are about to go too far, take it to PMs.

Appearance:

Personality: Chipper and fun-loving, Vladimir is always quick with a joke. This can get him into trouble, however, as he often forgets to filter his words in serious situations. Vladimir is very carefree. He found that attempting to be happy and have no worries is the best way to get through the rough patches in life. He does, however, very unnerved by the slightest bumps in the night.

Major Flaw: Vladimir goes out of his way to put others in danger so he can save them. He’ll escalate a situation so he can be the hero of it all. This has devolved from the countless hero type video games he played and also nobody saving him from his abusive father. He decided to be a Hero and save everyone anywhere.

Opinions on the Evangelions: Vladimir loves his EVA unit because it makes him feel like a hero, thus making him feel needed in the world.

Relationships With Other Current Characters:

History: Vladimir was born in Moscow a few months after Second Impact. While he was growing up, his parents joined NERV and helped construct the Fourth Branch. During the construction of Unit-02, Vladimir’s Mother, Lucya, volunteered to be the pilot. At a similar time, NERVs main branch had an accident with the first EVA Activation. Sadly, the warnings didn't reach the Fourth Branch in time. Lucya was absorbed into Unit-02's Core. Vladmir was always told that his mother died in a metro accident. His father didn't take the news well. Almost every night, he got drunk and wondered around town at night, until he committed several felonies. One was beating Vladimir on multiple occasions. Vladimir felt hopeless like he couldn’t do anything.

A young party-loving woman adopted Vladimir. At first he was excited, but he ended up spending most of his time in his room. his new guardian could barely afford the tuition fee and spent most nights on the town. When Vladimir asked for something to do, her guardian gave him a game console and television, not caring what she would do with them. Vladimir had started playing video games, most of them involving being a hero.
At age nine, Vladimir was approached by the Marduk Institute and was offered a place at NERV. After accepting, he was flown to Tokyo-3 in Japan and was assigned a new guardian, Tomoya Heiwajima.

Over the next few years, Vladimir was introduced to Evangelion, trained in it's use and had improved in his own way. When he was ten, Unit-02 was shipped to Tokyo-3 and Vladimir was it's assigned pilot.

Appearance:

Preferred Combat Style: Unit-02 was built to fit a range of combat scenarios and was made sure to be able to fill any role available. Later it was updated and outfitted for close to mid range combat.

Preferred Weaponry: Two Pistols for medium range combat, a glaive for close range combat.
Integral Weaponry: Due to it being meant for close combat, Unit 02 has a weapon on its right arm is an extremely long blade, not dissimilar to that of a Progressive Knife, extending from the unit's wrist and folding up to roughly a third of its standard size then sliding up the unit's arm to rest on its upper arm when not in use. It also has it’s progressive knives.

Unit: Being developed in Russia, Unit-02 was to be the AK of the EVA world. Reliable, adaptable and above all functional. It was tested in the Tokyo-3 Geofront after being in development for over a decade. Many features were created, integrated and rejected over the course of development. It couldn't be tested on site, due to the pilot being located elsewhere. The Core is the exact one that Vladimir’s mother was absorbed into in hopes that Vladimir himself would be Synchronize with it easier.

Colonel Tomoya Heiwajima

Name: Colonel Tomoya Heiwajima

Nickname(s): 'The Colonel'

Age: 32

Appearance: A tall Asian man, standing at roughly 6'4", Tomoya, at first, looks quite normal. His spiky hair is black, his eyes a dark brown, and his face could be described as handsome; it lacks any scars, save for a small one above his left eye. However, if one looked closely, one could see past his smiling face and see a rigid posture, a tautness of the muscles - distinctive marks of a lifelong soldier.

Personality: An enigmatic figure, Tomoya gives off the immediate impression of being someone full of life and energy. He walks confidently, powerfully, and is often seen with a smirk on his face; he appears almost arrogant at times. He possesses great charisma, and frequently spends his nights out partying, even as he begins to age. He is often sarcastic and joking, and genuinely cares about the people he works with. However, in a crisis situation, one sees the other side of Tomoya; a consummate soldier, a systematic commander, with a ruthless streak a mile wide. He is of the sincere opinion that nothing whatsoever takes priority over the survival of the human race, and he will do anything that he deems is necessary in an effort to destroy the Angels. More mysteriously, however, he also appears to have a side-project only known to the top echelons of NERV - and just what this project entails is something he will kill to keep secret.

Opinions on the Evangelions: Has a deep-seated respect for them, and while he dislikes the fact that they need to use children as pilots, he knows that they are necessary - and as far as he is concerned, that is all that matters.

Relationships With Other Current Characters:

History: Born in 1983 in Japan, Tomoya spent much of his early life in an uneventful fashion. At a young age, he displayed a love of technology, weaponry especially, along with an interest in history; his parents cultivated this, his mother being a teacher and his father being a Lieutenant Commander in the JSDF. Immediately out of high school, he enlisted in the JSDF, receiving standard officer's training; he and his unit were on exercise in Singapore when Second Impact occurred. The devastation nearly killed him, and several members of his platoon were killed by various natural disasters due to the energy released by the Impact.
During this time, order in Singapore collapsed, and his unit was set upon by a group of armed civilians who had formed a paramilitary group. Releasing their intentions, Tomoya commanded his team to cut them all down, and watched with a mixture of horror and resignation as they obeyed perfectly, out of both fear of what would happen if they disobeyed and a respect for their superior officer.

When a war started between the newly-formed South-East Asian Coalition and Japan, Tomoya's unit was still at the epicentre of the fighting, having been unable to secure an evac route. Thusly, they engaged in a guerilla warfare campaign against the Singaporean Government, spending nearly three years behind enemy lines and inflicting extreme damage at the cost of heavy casualties. Ultimately, the United States intervened with the threat of the deployment of newly-developed N2 Mines, and a ceasefire was arranged. When word of the exploits of the mysterious 'ghost company' reached the Japanese Army - renamed and split off from the JSDF - they were greeted as heroes, with Tomoya awarded some of Japan's highest military commendations for bravery in the face of adversity.

Shortly after, Tomoya was hired by NERV, and due to his dual degree in experimental physics and theology, as well as his military training, he was put in command of the newly-created 'Evangelion' project, designed to create superweapons to counter the arrival of further Angels. After many years of conclusive failure, he managed to arrange the purchase of the United States' Raven Rock Testing Facility, where he gained access to the only-ever functional EVA unit and all the research notes on it. Using this information, Tomoya began construction of Unit 01, as well as training Vladimir. He volunteered to allow Valentine to live with him, which Vladimir accepted.

The First Child

Name: Nanami Gyoshiro
Nickname(s): Nana
Number: The First Child
Age: 14 and three months

Appearance: Standing at an average height of 5’5’’, Nanami seems to lack in physical presence. Her body is fairly petite and unmarred. Her skin is light and fair. Her pale blue, almost white hair hangs to past her shoulders naturally, though she sometimes styles it, trying the part behind her ears into a short tail. Her unfocused eyes are an unusual shade of red. She typically wears her school uniform, having very little in the way of casual clothing. Her plugsuit is mostly dark gray, with the part covering her forearms and most of her legs being a pale purple color.

Personality: After speaking to Nanami for some time, it wouldn’t be unusual to think something is a little ‘off’, but it might be difficult to place what, exactly. While her words tend to be serious, whenever she acts otherwise, it begins to sound less sincere, as if she’s pretending. There are also instances when she reacts oddly, or not at all.

Having spent her life at NERV, she is loyal to the personnel , particularly the higher ups, accepting orders and words as truth with little hesitation. Once trust is earned, her loyalty is as well. Frighteningly, she has something of a wrathful side. She doesn’t often act on it, but those who know of it know to be wary regardless.

Major Flaw: Nanami, though not unintelligent, sometimes has difficulty sorting truth and lies. In combat, misinformation, mistakes, and tricks are generally accepted unless she has time to sort through it. Out of combat, her gullibility might be even more of a problem due to NERVs enemies. If it were to be taken advantage of, major problems could easily arise.

Opinions on the Evangelions: Nanami has much familiarity with them. She lacks fear or hesitance when piloting one. She might even be more in tune with them than humans, but she isn’t very forthcoming with her thoughts on that.

Relationships With Other Current Characters: (To be filled out fully later)

History: To be revealed IC. What is commonly known among NERV, however, is that Nanami has been with NERV for some time as the pilot of 00, taking part in many tests and experiments to learn more about EVA. Outside of NERV, she is simply a mysterious student...

Unit Nickname: None, though it is considered the Protoype EVA
Appearance: A standard model with sleek armor. It’s limbs are black, and its torso white. It’s head is fairly round, marked by two gold visual receptors.
Preferred Combat Style: The Prototype, 00 was made to be able to test a number of weapons and modules. It is typically modded for mid to long range combat: rifles predominately, but it can be reconfigured in hours if the situation requires it.
Preferred Weaponry: Prog knife, pallet rifle
Integral Weaponry: Prog knife, though it’s possible it may later be outfitted with prototype weaponry to test it.
Unit Notes: The first successful EVA did not actually see use until Nanami began testing, with Unit 01 being used in the first attempt at activating EVA. Of all the EVAs, it has likely seen the most use however, being used in both the development of weapons and mobility equipment, along with Nanami’s training. Its modifiability comes with a bit of a drawback, however: it needs more maintenance than more modern models. Because of stupid Shinji, of course.

Suffice it to say, Raleigh is like any other everyday guy. Save for his witty sarcasm, and his potty mouth. Raleigh is as nice, and as helpful as anyone could be. Noted by anyone who stands around him for more than ten minutes, Raleigh is a hard worker, loyal, and trustworthy, he takes it upon himself to be as honest as possible, but sometimes this honesty may be seen as frank or harsh, but he never means to come across this way. To some, Raleigh may seem a little sheltered, and quiet, but he usually goes through intense thinking processes before he does most anything, meaning that he can be calculated in his responses and actions. As far as his inner feelings, Raleigh is actually quite sensitive at heart, and will not stand for being insulted or taking damage to his character, this sensitivity extends onto even his close friends, where he may be caught viciously defending them. He takes too much to heart, and should for the future try and ward off things that may seem to hurt him, but Raleigh has never exactly had a stable self esteem, except when concerning his skill with machinery. The boy has set some negative aspects about himself, particularly the fact that he's always wanting to take charge when a project comes his way, and that he has a hard time working in groups. Despite his low self esteem, confidence seems to be brimming in him. He is also instilled with a sort of hardy, aggressive air about him, when he wants something done, he does it himself, and regrets nothing that he does. He is never unsure, or short footed, and he always has an answer for everything he does.

Raleigh is not very sentimental, or nostalgic at all, he tends to disassociate with anything that reminds him of his past, to move on towards the future with no shame. He is quite studious, and intelligent, but when something doesn't hold his attention he will stray immediately and refuse to do it, often causing problems between him and authority. He abhors being held back from his ambitions, and can be lured into trouble by virtue of being argumentative, and straightforward. He can be a bit of a jokester, and he cusses so often that even some staff has stopped paying attention to it. Raleigh is a practical person, who tries to find a practical use for everything, he pays attention to precise details, and can be almost obsessive when something becomes a major interest for him. For his father's child, he feels he too strongly embodies his traits, and when people mention that he's anything like him, he tends to reflect and once again (something he does often) disassociate.

Major Flaw:
One would be surprised to know that behind this well mannered facade, Raleigh harbors a dense hatred of people, which mainly comes from him not being able to understand other viewpoints. Every flaw he sees in anyone even remotely close to him, he uses as an ace to manipulate them into doing the things he wants them to do. He holds a narcissism that he is unaware of, thinking that he is perhaps the leading example of what a human should be, a role model of sorts, and other people are inferior. He doesn't seek to better them, but rather affix them to his own logic. This is also the reason why many people have come to realize that they know so little about Raleigh's emotional or mental state, he makes sure that his own glaring flaws aren't shown, but this in turn makes his existence a truly lonely one, and has made him a rather pessimistic person on the inside. He seems to be unable to form bonds despite an outwardly warm nature, and shirks away from affection of any sorts.

When he realizes he's doing these things, he reverts into a very quiet state, and can become aloof, unresponsive, hesitant, and somber. He hates himself for doing it, and tries earnestly to change the behavior but it is for now seemingly beyond hope.

Opinions on the Evangelions:
He actually isn't very fond of his Evangelion, he likes to think of a tool used to manipulate him since his mother's soul is resident inside, and regardless of whether or not he wanted to pilot it, fate would have that he pretty much has no choice in the matter.

Raleigh's nickname for the eva unit comes from the steam that pours out of the pylons when he uses his Rifle.
