Set backgrounds for thread/posts?

Kind of a random thought I had and no idea how hard it might be.

I feel it would be pretty awesome if there was a way so that for a thread or post you could set a background picture. For RPs this could be very nice as the GM could post something that would help with the setting a bit more than the usual picture header type of thing.

Considering the user http://www.roleplayerguild.com/users/148 has it, I'd say it's probably a feature that Mahz is toying with for the future.

Eh, it's possible that it was just Mahz goofing around and playing with things to see what was possible. There are some good reasons not to have it, including the general annoyance it would cause, the burden it would lay on slow computers/connections (some people's computers have trouble loading pages with just a handful of images on them, much less 20 avatars/sigs/post backgrounds), and server strain.

It could be a thing in the future despite those negative points, I'm just saying don't lay your hopes on it just because he did it for one person.

It could also be a thing you could turn on or off as well which would help remove many of the counter points to it though server strain is the one I worry about with it.

It might be an interesting idea if only the OP of the thread background would show up in their threads.
Not sure if that is possible or not; but it would make it easier to identify when a GM/OP figure is talking.

Still wouldn't remove the issue of reading scribbles plastered over an explosion of colors, or too bright colors, or... It is even worse when a person is photosensitive, suffers from migraines/nausea etc - then it can downright trigger the condition (I know such people on the forums...). For me it is simply physically unpleasant to look at.

Blocks of small text over pictures = always very bad idea.

I don't even like it when people can change their font type of colour half the time, I wouldn't be able to stand if they could change the backgrounds. I'm not even colour blind or hard of seeing really, and when there's colours that just glare against RPGs background or this ridiculously small swirly print... It just induces a massive headache and I don't want to deal with those people in the forums. xD Idk, call me awful, but I just think some people have garish ideas of what looks good and don't know how to keep it simple.... Forget about those who will start trolling with such options. : P So, I'd say, just... leave it be...

And Mahz, I don't even like seeing Aly in a thread now cuz of that star kitty background, plz, help, fix it xP

Yeah, this is a good idea. For GMs, perhaps a small ribbon on the top-right corner of their posts. Especially when GMs have mod-like privileges in their own topics.

I must say I am inclined to agree with Tempest on Aly's spacecats... It was not as bad on my main PC, but I can't simply see some of the text without blocking it on the laptop (which is not as good in the color depth department). The text merges into the cats's light pink, and no altering of contrast, brightness or color levels is going to change it.
